Much better than the previous episode. I don't know what the people who read the manga think about these episodes but I like them, the pace is ok for me.

It's always good to see this stuff animated. I'm someone who practically skims the manga due to the fact I still want the anime to feel fresh, and new to me.
A lot of this stuff I forgot occurred, so it's not as if I'm re watching the same thing over. Also, I can't bear to watch manga fight scenes, so this is always refreshing.
Could everyone stop with the spoilers, and telling others whether or not their predictions are correct or not? I mean, seriously... You can make predictions, but if you want to know if you're right, you should ask for an answer to be messaged to you privately.
I don't think anyone wants to be spoiled...

I'm also anime only so can't give you that perspective, but I found this very enjoyable and the pacing was done very well for a change. The previous episode I found rather boring and with what I had heard about what we should expect with the pacing in the manga I was close to dropping One Piece but after this episode I will atleast give it a good chance.
I do have to state this to other people saying they were annoyed about Usopp. The thing I feared the most after the time-skip was a personality change. I love Usopp how he is now, still Usopp but stronger. He adds the realistic feeling. I mean, who would be happy to see a Dragon?!
Behold of my awesomeness~
controversial and/or sensitive topics likely devolve into the same repetitive, derogatory, abusive, and harassing comments can no longer be posted.
But my feels.
Oh god lol, the Shurororo~ is even greater than I could've imagined. Man that's too hilarious, and exactly how it sounded in my head when reading the manga.
This episode was freaking hilarious XD XD XD I got a Soul Eater vibe from it, don't know why...
The cutting people and making a patchwork out of them is maybe Law's doing??? I remember he did something like that at Saboady Archipelago...no???
I wondering who the master is... The island residents are pretty f****d up :P
The whole island theory reminds me of Thriller Bark. Some mastermind who is experimenting on people and weird creatures all over the place...
Refreshing episode after, in my opinion, a fairly weak 2 episode opening to a new arc. The talking body parts has got to be Trafalgar Law's doing. He did a very similar thing during the escape from the human auction place on sabaody. Excited to (hopefully) see him again as he and his crew were very intriguing.
An island split between lava and ice? After just being informed of the duel between Aokiji and Akainu, this stands out the most so far. I definitely support the theory that this is where the battle took place.
Aside from those two things, I don't know what to make of the other new characters that have appeared. Some smokey guy who looks to be some sort of scientist, and a lot of strange creatures on the island. Reminds me a lot of Thriller Bark.
I have high hopes for this arc after a slow Fish-man island arc. Hopefully it wont drag too much.
Things have suddenly become far more clear. My first thought regarding the samurai’s legs was that Law had cut him. It was reminiscent to Buggy, and Law is the anti buggy from what we can recall at Sabaody. He cuts people up and they continue to live, he made a tornado of living limbs and even stuck them together like this guy was stuck to the dragon and Luffy. Later it absolutely proved that idea when the other part of the leg samurai said that to cut him and leave him alive is a dishonor to a warrior. So we can basically 100% say that Law is here and I even started to wonder if he was the mad scientist, he was a doctor who seemed a little crazy sometimes! Beyond that, as many have said, this is pretty Thriller Bark. There is a mad scientist here who captures nearby pirates as guinea pigs to use for experiments and we can presume that the mythological creatures on this island may have been his doing. Then there is a group of bad guys, perhaps his best minions or they were modified by this mad scientist or both! They are quite unique, a centaur and a harpy, and they are hunting for the intruders here.
To put everything on the table we have a mad scientist and his presumed minions out to kill and capture the Straw Hats, we have the cut up samurai and Law who cut him, and mystery still around the emergency call. We also have an observation that I think is worth noting, Punk Hazard is split by a river, half of it is a lava wasteland and the other half is an icy land of frozen mountains. What I think we are supposed to suspect was that the incident four years ago caused for the horrible weather here and closed off Punk Hazard from all, but if the intention is to subvert our expectations then it's likely that Aokiji and Akainu came here to fight because it was a sealed off location and their 10-day fight resulted in this. That would suggest something else was the cause for sealing off this island.
The mad scientist boss guy can only be described as some ethereal looking carrot, he subsists of gas or fire and my friend made a good point that he could be some ethereal counterpart to Brook for this arc. We don't know exactly what his intentions are and I have heard the criticism that arcs after the post time skip start to tread over the same territory and if that holds weight past the superficial similarities here we could assume the obvious. That this guy is trying to create some super-powered army so that he can become the king of the pirates or at least have a lot of power and that is why he is using nearby pirates as test subjects. I don't want to give that theory any weight however until we get more information.
With the samurai’s legs not seeing or hearing but sensing the Straw Hats presence and his “bu” speech pattern I take it that the dragon was never speaking at all. I don't exactly understand how his legs can talk but let's forget about that for now, what is more important is the fact that he appears to be a haki user. He can sense hostile intent, he can predict attacks without eyes or ears, and he can sense people’s presence. From the amazing running gag of Luffy chasing after such an eccentric person, assuming that they were born a pair of legs, and trying to force them to join his crew, to the shenanigans found in the “jail cell” the rest of the crew was put in, this was a great introduction for a character. His legs are with Luffy, his head which has been slightly disorganized as the crew mixed up his facial hair and hair-hair is with Sanji’s group so perhaps Brook will find his upper body? Even if not, this samurai will be a happy man if the crew were united as so will his body for the most part! I found the image of legs kicking around and sprinting away pretty hysterical along with his shouting. With his sandals, his line about a foreign language, his line about “dishonor” and his apparent haki, I bet he is totally a powerful Wano samurai and him fully forming will be a major plot element, maybe with a gag thrown in. I do hope he recognizes the Shusui.
Speaking of Brook, I found the directing here pretty cool. The choice to show us the bad guy and suggest that they assumed Brook was a corpse, just as they did in Fishman Island, and then cut to Brook waking up was nice. Particularly I liked how the first cut was from Brook’s perspective, looking up and then looking at the strange men on their ship and noticing the cold. His polite questioning of where the others were was pretty excellent, this separating the cast into 3 groups. Then from there, we had Franky’s perspective when he was waking up. Confusion and the noise of Sanji smashing iron walls with his feet. It all flowed beautifully, it was some great stuff. And since I’m talking about the direction, I really loved the song choice they used when the ethereal carrot bad guy showed up. It had this cheesy but endearing kind of spooky Halloween jingle overlapping a droning mechanical beat and I thought it captured the energy of the scene perfectly. From the ghostly appearance of the mad scientist to the chemicals being compounded around them. As others have said, as an episode this was awesome.
I do think Usopp and the harpy were subtly set up to fight this arc, the harpy seemed a little sadistic when she licked her lips and the way she glared at Usopp when he was alone and didn’t show herself to anyone else felt like a bird of prey picking out her meal. It felt like Griffith staring at his enemies in Berserk, like a statement, like it was made to instill fear and it was good at that! Sure, Sanji could fly in the sky and duel her there excluding the fact that Sanji can’t fight women, and Luffy could catapult himself up easily, but Usopp could have a really cool sniping fight with her as he’d try to land shots on her as she flew. Lastly, I love how Luffy so easily makes friends, a centaur shows up to smash his brains in and immediately both of them found each other amazing and bonded. I am worried that once he learns that Luffy's centaur legs are fake he will feel betrayed and turn on him though.
FINALLY a good episode. One of the few episodes I've actually derived entertainment from since after the timeskip. Came here just to say it. The art style has drastically improved too. Things are actually looking up. The fishman arc was utter garbage but this ain't so bad.
This might be a dumb question, but what's with the title card? The frame didn't appear in the actual episode did it? Or maybe it did? I mean, Luffy is an orange silhouette here. I thought most title cards were a freeze frame of canon material. Did the animation staff just feel like changing things up with some artsiness? Why aren't other people commenting on this too? (Considering this doesn't happen often.)
If the animation team DOES do this from time to time, then does anyone know of any other episodes with strange title cards?

This exact frame didn't appear, but it was "hovered" over in one of the scenes (at 9th minute). Compare for yourself:
It also seems to be mirrored, but Luffy's scar is on the correct side in both cases nevertheless
Regarding colouring - just check the previous episode for instance - they edit the colouring when the title appears occasionally:

Oh wow, thanks a ton for taking the time to clarify all of that. I was quite confused and spent nearly 10-20 minutes Googling terms that might answer my question but to no avail. You're right, a similar flipped frame appears in the episode. (And very good eye. You must've had to do some delicate skimming through the episode to find it.)
So what we can conclude is that the animation team INDEED felt like being artsy, by changing Luffy's skin orange and removing his eyes... (in other words, this episode's title card seemed to be more than just a color edit!)
And that, you're saying, every once and awhile, the animation team INDEED "mixes things up", so to speak...
Because I DID check the previous episode and they changed the tone of the dragon from red to gray. But then I checked some other episodes in this arc and the title card was quite normal.
I can't believe there aren't any similar discussions out there.
But you've definitely cured an uncomfortable curiosity so thanks again for the comparison screenshots.
There's a lot of mythical creatures in Punk Hazard for some reason and it's possible that the mad scientist in the mountains might be responsible for this. Either way, the secret behind this island will be revealed in the next episode.
Omg that was Mayuri voice from Bleach. lol
Ryusei Nakao finally playing Canon character in One Piece, previously he was voicing Erik from that filler arc before Grand Line.
That guy in the room reminds me of Buggy Devil Fruit power Bara Bara no Mi.
Getting the introduction of the main characters for this arc.
The guy with the split body while still being alive. From who we've seen it would suggest Law's doing, but during the fight we saw alongside Luffy, he was swapping parts around rather than just splitting and leaving them. Since they've also been mentioning a Seven Warlord, another guess is Doflamingo. We've not been shown much specifics of his power other than body manipulation. But with the way he moves his fingers and the way the people moved, my guess would be thin wires. Although if it was Doflamingo like that, it raises the question of how the people are still alive. Third theory is whoever split the guy up and the Seven Warlord are different people.
Well it looks like Law is involved. Maybe his crew got captured and he fighting to get out?
It seems like the villain could be a warlord. As of now we know the warlords are
1) Hawkeye
2) Kuma
3) Hanncock
4) Flamingo
There 3 openings with Jinbae, Moria, Blackbeard/Crocdile out. Could they have promoted law to a warlord? It seems unlikely due to his personality. We know it’s not hanncock and I’d be surprised if Kuma (due to him being a robot) and this does not feel like Hawkeye. So maybe this arc is flamingo centered? But I have a feeling we could have 3 new warlords and one of them will be center stage here
