Hey, @karrie1337 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thank you so much for taking the time to write me a heartfelt message as your gift and the recommendations! I read all of it multiple times and it made me really happy! I watched the movie Josee to Tora to Sakana-tachi and it was really good! It didn't really make me cry (I can't give many spoilers here) but I did enjoy it alot! As for your other two I'm definitely going to be watching them at some point since they look great, I'm just waiting to see if new seasons will be released cause I like to watch some anime fully 100% completed :D. I hope you had the merriest of Christmases and that 2024 has treated you great so far! Thanks again! ~Hecatier

Hey @SNOTTT! Thnx for the gift <3 I'm only about 40-ish chapters in but I binged those chapters within like 3 hrs, so I just know I'm gonna like the rest of it. It's my first time reading a mountain climbing manga in the sports genre, so I was interested right off the bat. Even during the first 40 chapters in, so much happened that it actually caught me off guard. Kokou no hito definitely did stir my adventurous spirit and is definitely on my list to read till to the end. I hoped that you enjoyed whatever gift(s) that you received on your end and happy 2024!!

@Pimelea Thank you so much for the anime movies :3 Really enjoyed them Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni and Nitaboh were exactly what i was looking for, beautiful scenaries illustrating the past paired with touching stories For Nitaboh The final shamisen showdown between Nitaro and Tawaraboh was a joy to listen to Though for Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni my fav scene was one of the more lighthearted and simple ones at the beginning This one where Suzu passes buy the sweet/toy stall and i caught eye of the paper balls! Such a cool easter egg to find, best childhood toy since my grandma's time! Funnilly enough, Stranger: Mukou Hadan that you mentioned being the most action packed one... is the one i fell asleep watching 😅 I still really loved the first half Particularly this scene When Nanashi is dueling and the way it's filmed (i don't know the equivalent word for animation :P) showing it happen in the background while we see the old man fishing and his reactions to his fishing as he's blissfully unawear of the duel happening right next to him, that was a great scene :D Hope you're having a great 2024 and enjoyed your secret santa gifts too :)

Thank you elves and mods for this event, it was fun! And thank you @Luiere for the thoughtful recs! I started with the shortest one out of the three, Short Cake Cake, because I was actually out of the country, so I thought it would be a short and sweet read on the plane home, and I was not disappointed! The year had just started, but Chiaki earned a spot in my top ten favorite characters of the year--every time he made an appearance he never failed to crack me up. I love him to pieces! The manga itself was such a breath of fresh air and subverted my expectations. On a side note, I found Chiaki and Riku's dynamic to be really fun and actually wanted more of them rather than Ten x Riku moments lol. The last time I saw the two male leads have some sort of relationship prior to meeting the female lead was Strobe Edge. It seems to be something I really like in shoujo so thanks again for bringing this manga to my attention! After finishing Short Cake Cake I started on Emma--I only got about a volume in at the time of writing, but so far I'm enjoying it. I don't have much to comment on yet, but I like the slowburn between the main leads. Last but not least, Gakuen Alice is the only one I haven't touched yet, but I'll start on it soon! I admit, I'm intimidated by the 31 volumes, but seeing how you recommend it, and it's one of your favorites, I want to give it a shot.

Hi there, sorry for the slow reply! Work gets very busy in the new year. Because of this I've only watched 1 episode each of the two recommendations I got (Elaina and Rascal Does Not Dream) - Gurren Laggann I only started watching because my fiancé insisted, aha. So you're doing better than me for anime progress!
Glad you like Ousama Ranking. I think it's a very special show with an amazing story so it's good to know that you're enjoying it! Humanity has declined is a very brain-off show which is nice to have sometimes, and Re:Creators is very good if you're big on flashy fights (I know not everyone does). Don't feel a need to rush watching them on my account or anything, and obviously if some of them stop being to your taste then J won't be offended if you stop watching :P
Hope your Christmas time was good, and I hope your trip home was pleasant, however far that was, and I hope your new year is going well so far! 🙂

@EastEUHobbyist I laughed pretty hard when I saw your first recommendation because, what are the odds you pick a show I've been intentionally avoiding for many years haha. I'm already familiar with it and just haven't added it to my PTW cause the concept seemed a bit weird to me, and the mc's face kinda creeps me out. But seeing that its almost an 8/10, the cast has a lot of my fav VAs, and that you've given your personal recommendation on it, I'll give it a shot at some point. I'm glad you gave two recommendations though cause I wanted something I wasn't familiar with. So I went ahead and started Undead Murder Farce. I'm definitely intrigued by the concept and direction they're going towards, I will definitely be continuing this at some point if not now. I doubt it's score will let me down, anything close to an 8 is worth it in my book so I'll keep it up. Thanks for the recommendations, and Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas! @Aur0ra Thanks so SO much for these recs!! I'm loving Last Game! It's just so textbook Shoujo that its kinda exactly what I needed rn!! And I'm so excited to read the other two recomendations cause I know I'm gonna enjoy them too ₊˚。⋆❆⋆。˚₊ @ItssKaito Thanks for the rec! And your right that we share A LOT of similarities ;D I did like the initial concept behind WorldEnd, but ultimately the "romance" element was too much for me. I always think its kinda hard to recommend a romance anime/manga cause everyone has their own flavor of romance they like.. while the age-gap is technically not that wide, there was still too large an obvious gap in maturity between the two MCs thats just not for me (and I know it happens a lot in anime) which is why I'm kinda particular about the romance animanga I consume. But, thank you for the recommendation °❆⋆.ೃ࿔*:・ @Ebobebo THANKS SO MUCH!! I loved watching Sabikui Bisco! I remember watching the first ep when it came out, but then I completely forgot about it! (°ロ°) SO thankful for the rec it was exactly what I wanted for Christmas ⋆꙳•❅*‧ ‧*❆ ₊⋆ |

Thanks, @Zekkenshin for the recommendations! I watched Starmyu and surprisingly liked it, even if I wasn't hooked on the first few episodes - too many useless conflicts with stupid resolutions - but from the moment the real plot began, it became interesting. In particular, I loved Ootori and Hiragi's relationship and their role in general. They made me cry a few times...
I'll watch Ahiru no Sora (a series I have been eyeing since its release) and Romeo x Juliet for the yearly MAL AWC!
Thanks also to @heolyeollie
I really wanted to read both manga before writing this, but I'm in a little slump and don't have a desire to read... But I read Rumspringa no Joukei and it was so good! The premise already intrigued me but the execution was top-notch! Theo is so cute and Oz deserves the world. Also, a nice coincidence, I like ballet, so it was a happy addition!
I'll surely read Yuki to Matsu as soon as I feel like reading something!
Finally, thanks to all the elves and staff who organized the event!
Happy New Year to everyone!

@hinagatari Glad it's going well so far. I actually threw Starmyu in last minute (was stuck between that & the next season of I7). "Stand by Dreams" is still one of my favorite Starmyu songs. If you're interested, there's still two more seasons to enjoy. S2 is my favorite (more musical theater, less idols). You could probably pass on S3 for a while, as it goes back to more of those useless conflicts & feels like a side story.

Thank you all the Elves for great help. It was a very enjoyable event! --- Hello, @Delikado Thank you so much for your thoughtful recommendation. I was quite intrigued by the story and ended up watching all the way through season 3. The character you suggested as cool fits the bill perfectly. Each character in the series impressed me with their kindness and strength, making the overall experience truly enjoyable. The work delved into various aspects of human relationships and left me with much to ponder. I appreciate the recommendation for option as well. While I couldn't find it online at the moment, I'll definitely make an effort to locate it. Thanks again!

This year was my first time participating in this event and I enjoyed it a lot, thank you so much to the staff!
For my anime recommendation, thank you to @JhayTeee. I actually, haven't got around to watching the anime of Summer Time Rendering yet, but got half way through the manga first (which -funny enough- I already had in my library but hadn't got throught it yet) and I am enjoying a lot so far! The mystery is excellent and the art is also great. I'm excited to watch the anime adaptation after I finish the manga.
And for my manga recommendation, thank you to @_Exon, I quite enjoyed Home Alone Together. Wooyeon's story was very well portrayed, it's rare it find it portrayed so realisticly and full of emotion!
Thank you both for your recommendations and hope you have a happy new year!

Hello @Ilham-2005, and thank you very much for the gift. Altough I didn't have much time to watch anime, because of the Holidays, but I watched Isekai Nonbiri Nouka and I didn't expect to enjoy it so much. I don't normally watch a lot of slice of life, so I was looking forward to it. And this one captivated me a lot and I watched half of it in a day. I can't wait to finish it! Also, I started Kyokou Suiri, which I didn't have much time to watch, but I watched a few episodes, but from what I watched it really captivated me and it's a really unique show. I actually heard about it before, people saying it is underrated, and I was happy to give it a chance now that you recommended it to me. As for Sunohara-sou no Kanrinin-san, I didn't have time to start it yet, but I will definetely watch it as soon as I can. Thank you again for all the recommandations! Also thank you to the team for organising this amazing event, it was a lot of fun!

Hey @RewLord!
Thanks so much for the thoughtful recommendation! Golden Time has been on my PTW for quite some time now, and your gift finally pushed me to start watching it. And it was so interesting that I finished all 24 episodes of it in a single sitting! It was a good romance series, and it was great to see the character development of good but imperfect characters like Kouko, Banri and Linda. The amnesia plot was also very well played. Kouko is one of my favourite romcom MCs now (not Banri though). Thanks again for the gift, and let's connect again sometime to discuss more anime!
Also, huge thanks to the wonderful organisers and staff at MAL who made this fun event possible!

Hello @StuartFalcon ! Thank you so much for the Secret Santa recommendations! I heard about Odd Taxi before so I started watching it and I just gotta say, it is really good and unique and just what I was looking for! I like the uniqueness of the plot and the oddities of everything going on in the anime! I don't want to type too much about it and spoil it for people reading, but just thank you so much for the recommendations. I was planning on watching Somali and the Forest Spirit next, but I will definitely watch The Millionaire Detective: Balance Unlimited after it because I looked at it and it does interest me a lot. Again, thank you for the great recommendations and I have done this multiple years but this has been some of my favorite recs so far!

This was my first Secret Santa event and it was absolutely awesome.
Thank You @jarambejuice for those amazing recommendations. It's truly the best gift I could have gotten. As you may have noticed from my long long Plan to Watch list that I haven’t been watching any anime lately. I was afraid it might be a bit challenging for my Secret Santa, but you've completely proven me wrong. I absolutely love the mystery and sci-fi genres, so I have no doubt that I'll thoroughly enjoy Trigun and Hyouka as well.
Thank you for recommending Kingdom as well. I don't remember when I added that to my PTW list and there was a high chance I would have not watched it. Additionally, I plan to resume watching Mob Psycho 100 and start Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 sometime later.
Thanks again for your thoughtful and personalized gift, hope you had a great time on Christmas, and I wish you late happy New Year!

@DoodieMan No problem! I am glad you are interested in my recommendations! Hyouka is definitely one of my favorites and I also think you will enjoy trigun as well, but it is an old anime just know that. And remember what I said about Kingdom, I think the first and second seasons look kinda eh but it picks up so if you dont mind that, then you will definitely love that anime, the strategic fights and everything are very cool and enjoyable to watch and I for sure think you will love watching Mob Psycho and jjk. I had a good Christmas, I hope you had a good one too and happy new year to you as well!

I am so grateful for the gifts I received, I really can't thank my secret santas enough! jacilund, thank you so much for recommending me Horimiya, I watched it so fast and simply love how Hori and Miyamura develop their relationship, and it was such a nice thing to watch an anime where the couple starts dating so fast (I'm used to wait a whole 20 episodes for them to even kiss) and I'm so glad the second season has already aired because I just couldn't get enough of it! Thank you very much indeed. Also, I was surprised to look at your profile and see you also have Sawako on your favorites, she's adorable Dancho, the manga you recommended are just what I was looking for, and I was probably never going to find out about them if it wasn't for the gift! I was just a little disappointed with myself for asking for such short stories, because I just wanted the stories to keep going on and they were suddenly over (my fault, but still...) Thanks to the Elves and everyone that made the secret santa exchange possible!

I never dared to look at it, you gave me the push.
Looking at it, I was like: Was this on TV? The Japanese are sick in the head (Well, like me XD)
Thanks to the entire administration team, for helping me when I did not understand how to send my recommendation, they sent me messages in English and below with a translation into Spanish, what a good service, in other places you can see a robotic (automatic) response, thank you MAL , it's good to see how there are people managing the event.

Thank you, dear Elf-tachi, so very much for all your hard work! I've lost track of how many years I've been participating in this event (possibly since it began?), but I look forward to it every year! I wonder if there's any way the data-curious among us could see information on things like how many unique anime titles were recommended; what the most popular titles to be recommended were; what titles were recommended only one single time; etc? That would be loads of fun, if there were!

@Bella_Sky Hey! Glad you enjoyed the gift! It took me quite alot of time to find something that aligned with your interest, since it isn't my cup of tea, but its good that in the end it all paid off, because you seem to be excited about it :D

Thank you for the gifts. I appreciate your effort in giving me these recommendations.
Arakawa Under the Bridge was enjoyable and entertaining, however it may have been too chaotic at times. And I’ll definitely watch your second recommendation as well.
Have a wonderful 2024, everyone.

Hey @amimichuu Thank you a lot for your recommedation. I was actually able to watch it fully and i enjoyed every second. I havent seen a romance anime in a long time and i gotta say i am happy that i watched this. It kept me on my tippy toes the whole time not knowing what will happen. And the ending was amazing. Thank you once again for recommending such a great anime <3 May you have a lovely and happy year.
@AmaliaHitoshi Your Welcome <3 And hope you have a great year with more romance anime.

Thanks to the elves for a great event, it was really fun coming up with recommendations as well as receiving some myself!
@Ichigo_Shindou
Thank you for your recommendation! I've been searching for lesser known romance that are not still publishing because being stuck waiting for chapters is pain!! I have only read a few chapters so far of Fujiwara-kun wa Daitai Tadashii and it's super cute and the art is great, excited to read the rest! :) Would love to potentially keep in touch and trade recommendations since it seems you have great taste!
@nashpika
I'm glad you're enjoying the recommendation! It's my absolute favourite and if I do say so criminally underrated, if you ever need more ahoujo recomms feel free to keep in touch :D Vice versa

Thank you @Metof for Secret Santa recommendations this Christmas (and apologies for the late reply) Skip And Loafer was an amazing series! I liked the main character and how unique she felt, as well as much of her interactions in every scene. Mitsumi was a socially challenged angel and heck, the rest of the cast came pretty close. Sousuke was an elating bishie to gradually discover over the season, Narumi was fun and flamboyant with some very relatable aspects, Yuzuki was refreshing in how three-dimensional she felt as well her general prettiness. Mika's arc in becoming less focused on image and status and being able to mellow with the others was rewarding, Makoto embracing new things with her friends was delightful to watch, Fumino was adorable every time she appeared, Tokiko was luminously lovely with her industrious and carefully organised manner and with her learning to balance that. The series tackled with some very heartwarming moments, genuine laughs and satisfying drama. I am blessed to have been recommended such a great pick by you! Hinamatsuri was funny and I see the resemblance to Gintama when you compared the two. Just with more subdued amounts of absurdism than dialling it up to eleven. Drama and characters were adequate and if it had a season two, I'd probably be happy to see that (much like with Skip And Loafer which I hope is a reality) Many thanks for all of the convincing recommendations you sent and have yourself a Happy New Year with lots of enjoyment and fulfilment both in the realm of anime and beyond

@Montrachet Thank you for the gift, fellow KiaMei shipper. Lycoris Recoil is an anime I've been planning to watch for some time already, but it would probably take me a lot of time before I'd actually get down to it. You hit my tastes perfectly and I really like it so far, so good job on the recommendation! Man, I hope Chisato survives ><

This was my first time participating in the Secret Santa event! First of all, I'd like to express my gratitude to all the elves for their hard work—you're amazing, and I truly appreciate your efforts! Now, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all my Santas: Secret Santa: Anime - @Zard970 Thank you so much for recommending Kokoro ga Sakebitagatterunda. I enjoyed it! The art is stunning, the story concept is great, and I particularly appreciate that Jun didn't end up with Takumi - deviating from the romance cliche I'm used to see. I wanted to express my gratitude by recommending Natsu e no Tunnel, Sayonara no Deguchi. I recently watched this movie and loved it :) Secret Santa: Manga - @HumanFinny Thank you so much for recommending Natsuyuki Rendezvous and Perfect World. From the synopsis, I believe Perfect World is a perfect match for me! I'm genuinely thrilled that you found such a gem <3 To express my gratitude for these recommendations, I'd like to recommend Dekoboko Sugar Days. I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it ;) Secret Santa: Image - @CoraL_ILIA Thank you so much for creating such a lovely edit of Ed :) I'll treasure it!

@ThatAn1meDegen Hello! Thank you very much for the recommendation, I know it took me a while to write to you but I hadn't seen that the names of the secret santas were already there haha, until I saw that they were on the spoiler buttons. I really liked the recommendation you gave me, I had heard good things about goblin but I had not been encouraged to see it, it was what I was looking for! Thank you very much for taking the time to give me this recommendation. Sorry for the English, I used an online translator.☺️💖
