Even as an anime-only viewer, I thought this final episode was a bit of a letdown.

The backstory into Peter Ratri's past about how his brother became William Minerva before he was killed off was interesting, but I honestly felt a bit amused that Peter himself took his own life. Knowing how twisted his mind has been, I think he did the right thing! XD

One of the few plus points of the episode was when Emma's group staying behind while seeing off Isabella and everyone else go, which we say a rather touching farewell scene between Emma and Phil. Unfortunately, this was then followed by a long slideshow which had so many shots which left me thinking that all of this potential content got skipped. The only redeeming upside was the excellent OST during this part of the episode, but this was a wasted potential of future seasons.

I'm not one to score anime shows with a low-ish score, which is a rare thing for me to do, but I can't give this one more than a 5/10. Considering how popular this series is, I'm saddened why how this second season got this rather annoying treatment. Time to jump into the manga version, then...

No. I checked the manga ending, and it's VERY VAGUELY similar. So, there is no material at all to make a season 3. This is the ending.

Okay, I would say the ending wasn't good, but it was fair. But then I realized the manga ended with 20 chapters in 2020...
So basically they failed to adapt a 20 volumes series into a 23 episodes animation? How's is that possible?

Okay, I'm disappointed when they literally skipped the best arc but I kinda liked this ending. At least in anime original, Mama Isabella is alive with the kids in the human world.

1) is this the same ending of the manga "but rushed"? Or is it rushed in the manga too? Or is it completely different? Because we saw a lot of very specific frames (a dragon-like creature, human villagers, etc) that seem like stuff that had a full development in the source material. Is it like that?

2) so... this is really the ending? No season 3, right?

I wouldn't call the manga ending "rushed", just awkwardly-paced. Especially towards the end. But goddamn, I have no idea whose choice it was to make the anime even worse. You at least got proper explanations for some of those slideshow frames in the manga.

The dragon and that little demon thing Emma encountered? Very important in the manga, and it's a damn shame because the buildup to that particular part would've been fantastic to see animated.

The anime and the manga technically have the same ending (all the main characters return to the human world) but I'm just floored by how rushed the anime was. There's some differences here and there, but they're not for the better.

OMG they literally put a fucking slideshow to summ up this whole anime. I can't belive it. It' seems like a joke.

Honestly it is so anticlimatic that hurts my whole being.

4/10 just for beggining and to honor season 1.

I really don't have much words to say at the moment except for the fact that the second half of the season was pretty bad in almost every right barring the Soundtracks & VA.

Anime-only here by the way, I've only read up to the end of the first arc and I think I'll just go back to the manga now. Didn't feel any closure from this finale. While I did appreciate Emma and co.'s decision plus the touching final moments, not much else really seemed to stand out in positive light. Mujika and Emma's pose was a nice addition, though. Did they go and end up making the "promise"? That's way too convenient...

In any case, the first half of the show was pretty interesting though. It was nice to see the outside world and the challenges our characters had to endure but sadly way too much was cramped from around mid-point onwards.

Initially thought of settling with a generous 6/10 but I'm afraid a 5/10 seems way more plausible and true to my experience and disappointment.

Op & ED will go down as one of the best, if not the best, of the season though. Definitely will be tuning to those every now and then.

I don't think the episode is as bad as people are making it out to be, but I can't really blame them considering the second half of the episode and the slideshow bs they pulled at the end of the episode was absolute garbage and a slap in the face to Promised Neverland fans. That part makes it so that I cannot defend this episode even if I think the first half was kinda decent.

This episode really did an amazing job upsetting me and all my (already low) expectatives for it. Come on. It's been quite a long time since I last watched such an atrocious episode. You had one job, Kaiu Shirai. You only needed to just change some little things in order to improve the manga ending, but you not only didn't improve it, but drastically worsened it. The manga ending was a disappointment, but it's a masterpiece when compared to this. At least it explained many plot points and felt actually interesting.

I'll just leave here the only thing I liked from this episode and maybe the whole season. The role of Isabella at the ending. It was good to see her not die and taking care of the children in the human world alongside the other mamas. This was actually good for me, since she didn't just die in a disappointing way.

Now with the rest.

The characters' decisions felt way too empty due to the lack of buildup, and what were maybe the most important events in the whole series were just summed up in some images with background sad music. I still wonder what made the authors decide to fuck the series up so badly. The last 5 minutes even felt like a commercial to go read the manga. Hell, the entire season just erased literally everything that made the series interesting: character psychology and development, strategies and mind games, worldbuilding and the morally grey decisions of some characters.

Peter Latley wasn't good in the manga, but he felt way worse in the anime. Everything about the demon nobles and royalty was removed. The whole worldbuilding which the manga took chapters and chapters to build and explain was reduced to some minutes-long chats between characters. Norman's strategy in the demon world was complete bullshit in the anime, and way more credible in the manga. Again, Emma's decision to not kill the demons felt way way weaker here, due to the complete lack of the buildup the Goldy Pond arc made.

And more things, but I don't have enough time to explain them in a deeper level. This episode was the zenith of mediocrity and the culmination of one of the worst adaptations in the whole industry. I'll just wait for "Yakusoku no Neverland: Brotherhood".

P.S.: congratulations to this season for being my 6th 1 score in this website. It really deserved the award.

*THIS REVIEW IS COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS NOT READ THE MANGA YET*
overall this season gets a solid 7/10 (HEAR ME OUT)
i enjoyed the first half of this season much more than the second half. after ep 8, everything seemed so rushed. i really wish the creators had added a few more episodes to go more in depth with everything. the last 2 episodes weren't bad, but felt very half assed and rushed. i think the character development wasn't bad, and the visuals where beautiful. season 1 is INSANELY better, and this season really just felt rushed.
a lot of people who have read the manga said they completely strayed away from the source material, and from what i read i wish they would have stuck to it. the story seemed much more interesting.
HOWEVER if you haven't read the manga and decide to watch this series, i think you wont have an unpleasant viewing experience. you may just finish it wanting more.

I'll be honest, I thought this anime was just OK for most of it, but the past two episodes made me go from planning to rate at a 7 to my final score of 4. The fact that there was just SO much at the end which was just turned into a slideshow... I can't believe it. I also have no idea what exactly the kids who stayed behind actually ended up doing besides seeing Mujika crowned queen (presumably). I am very forgiving with how I rate things but I couldn't justify giving this above a 4. What a poor adaptation. I am anime only too, for reference.

See I really don't mind the Emma staying behind thing. I think that's a lot better than the half-assed sacrifice from the manga. (Tho an actual sacrifice would've been the best of the 3). But damn they really ruined this series. I wasn't even the biggest fan of the manga, but it was pretty good. This season just felt like a really bad speedrun

Exactly what I expected from this last episode. Insanely rushed with no effort. Literally nothing happens in the finale. Peter Ratri kills himself, and then they open the door and leave that’s it. I was falling asleep while watching this episode. A bunch of still frames that you can only understand if you read the manga, but the anime deviated from the manga so technically you have no idea what just happened. A short explanation of the background of the promise, so the premise of them staying to change it has no context as well. I’m glad it’s finally over so I don’t have to worry about it anymore.

I haven't read the manga to this point so there is nothing for me to complain about. Tbh it even feels kinda weird, i never expected such a happy ending for Neverland, this always felt like an impossible dream. But somehow they actually managed to do it, i know they cut and skipped a lot of stuff but i am glad that i at least got the chance to see this adventure animated.

That ending felt a little rushed tho, so did Emma actually managed to save everyone? I still can't believe it ended so happily xD
I am glad i saw this adventure, but now i would love to see a spinoff/sequel of them fighting against the queen! That would be amazing!

The vibe between Mujika and Emma was really cool in this episode, Mujika was definitely the best new character of this season.

I enjoyed the past season a lot, and i enjoyed this season even more because we actually got to see the end of this epic story and it got a happy ending! If they made this season longer and completed it more, it would have been for sure a solid 10/10, still a solid 9/10.
What an ending!

In the first 4 episodes of this season, before the timeskip and meeting norman, it was going fine then but after that each episode felt rushed as it nears the end. The thrill and twists of this season including the reveal of the modern society in the human world was okay but it clearly did not supass what the first season delivered. Maybe it would've been better if the anime had followed the pace in the manga, like what people say, and not lose its potential. If this is the finale of the series and has no sequel to it, tho I doubt it will get any, then that ending was quite disappointing.

So they decided to cramped all of the missing arcs in one episode with a little bit with power point justice, 181 chapters in 23 episodes wth, i don't read the manga but still i feel like they rushed it. Why would they even bother to make another season anyways ? this should've ended with just one season for the original ending and let the people read the manga for the continuation. Plus Emma is so dman annoying with her talking no jutsu.

I wanna talk about why everything in this episode was just awful, but that would take too long.

I can't understand what significance a lot of the scenes from the montage has. Why is there a dragon? Why are that dragon and Emma on water . . . Jesus style?

The human world is on the other side of a magical door, and not in a place that you can reach by travelling. It would have been nice if they mentioned that beforehand. Also, the human world is basically just our world.

They showed some royal looking monsters, but then nothing came of it. WTF!

Is this anime really complete?

It's complete as in "no season 3". The stuff shown in the slideshow was important to understanding wtf was actually happening, but it wasn't animated or explained in any way.

So basically... season 2 was a manga commercial.

As an anime watcher only, I enjoyed this season.

I don´t think this very low mean score is justifiable.

Most likely the mean score is this low due to the manga readers who probably didn´t enjoy how the manga was adapted to the anime.

At these times, I am glad I haven´t read a manga before the anime haha xD

----

Three questions, by the way:

(1) From which child Vyrk-san got that small piece of that pen so they could know where is the gate between the Human and Demon worlds?
(2) How they did manage to get so many hot-air balloons in episode 10? Or did I miss something? xD
(3) I see the manga is already finished, the anime adapted the final moments of the manga or is it an anime original ending?

At least Isabella doesn't die in the anime. She dies in the manga. I am looking up the manga ending and to be honset, I think peopel are being overly bitchy. Everything here made sense to me. I may pick up the manga but I think manga readers were wrong to trash the manga ending. Overall, this was disappointing anime though. I really felt it could have been special and while the special does a decent job in some parts, it mostly sucks outside of one of my favorite characters not being dead.

That's the problem. That montage does show significant moments and demon characters from the manga, but as far as explanations for anything, they're like "lol nope". I'm even seeing anime-onlies—tons of them in this very thread lmao—who liked S2 but have no clue what was going on with the ending.

It's over. :( The manga also ended with (almost) everyone traveling to the human world, and that's it. The manga wasn't perfect, but the anime made an already rushed ending stretch with lots of plot armor and conveniences even worse.
