Very good I must say. However, the way it ended (especially the cause) was a bit disappointing. Btw, I literally was attending the summer festival while seeing it :)

Ending was weak. The hug during an anti-climatic disappearance? Not so much feels for me.

The events to me didn't flow very well, but a nice story overall. The kiss on the mask was a very nice touch.

If I was her, I'd find the mountain god and ask him to place the same curse on me... I can't understand why she did not look for a way to be with Gin.

Yeah it's predictable, but the movie is the epitome of what japanese culture represents.

People who are complaining about the ending don't understand it at all.

More character development and emotion in 44 mins than most 24 episode anime.
Very condensed, a bit short but beautiful.

I really like how this story is one of the few love stories that end sadly. When I was watching the ending, I thought that there would be some way for Gin to come back, or for Hotaru to become a spirit so they could be together.

But that wasn't the case.

He just disappears. Forever. Hotaru essentially grows up with Gin, and their love, I believe has been blooming ever since they met. Sure, it was platonic at first, but as most love stories go, platonic relationships end up as romantic ones if the river runs deep enough. And with Gin and Hotaru, their love was genuine and strong.

This story is about losing one's first love. Imagine how big of an impact it gave Hotaru when Gin disappears. He's a spirit, an immortal being but he clung on to his exitence by a string that's so easily broken. Gin was Hotaru's first love, and Hotaru had to learn to deal with the surprise and pain that Gin, even though he was immortal, couldn't be in her life forever because of the delicacy of his situation.

It's so beautiful and I want more, but I believe it ended very well.

Ooh, I quite liked this ... really sweet story :3 Hotaru and Gin were each other's first loves eh ... yeah, it was cute :P Plus I really loved the music, it was really fitting ... and such beautiful animations. Like when Gin was disappearing ... yeah lol. I liked the ending too. Kinda bittersweet, but at least there were no gimmicks about Gin coming back as a human or something like that. Still, it was interesting that he kind of turned into a "ghost" ... and oops, yeah, that kid was a human wasn't he lol >_<
Pretty short, but managed to get a lot in. With Hotaru growing up and visiting Gin every year ... (though I wonder how his mask stays on XD). Something nice to watch before going to bed :P 8/10

I really like this movie,
I would have loved to see Gin and Hotaru together, but it just wasn't logical in their situation, and I am glad as well that Gin wasn't brought back as a human for whatever reason, glad it ended the way it did, besides, the boy in Hotaru's class, the one who warned her about the ice and held her hand to help her home, hopefully he and Hotaru end up together.

With a length of 45 min this movie was way too short. There isn't enough time to explore the setting and it's characters.

Some fallacies in the movie I deduced:

1. The spirits warn Gin not to get close to humans (one was ready to eat humans), and yet they said thanks to the girl for hugging Gin.

2. The curse itself did not make sense to me. Other spirits must also have experienced death in their human form, and yet Gin has to suffer the fate far worse than his fellow spirits? Talking about disappearing forever, and not even allowed to come back in his "real" spirit self!!!

3. How was the girl able to see spirits in the first place? Some kind of spiritual power like "Natsume Yuujinchou"?

4. Why couldn't Gin simply just wear glove so that he could touch Hotaru whenever he wanted to? I mean, the girl was allowed to touch the mask, so anything that is not part of Gin's body is "touchable", right? It seems like the solution was so simple, yet Gin never thought of?

5. Why didn't any spirits notice Hotaru's presence in the festival? She could have gone into trouble.

6. The ending seems to be very hastily set up. Gin could have sense the child to be a human in the first place. And he disappeared just because he grabbed this random kid's arm? I was expecting something more tragic than this...
I was also surprised that the show ended just like that. Could have been something even more...something is missing here isn't it? Does not feel like it should just end here.

Well, it's my friend's birthday today, and he really likes this Anime movie. That's why, as a gift to him, I watched this movie now, as he keeps on telling me to watch this. I have known this Anime movie for quite some time already, but I didn't watch it back then because I was waiting for the right time and mood to watch it. I guess, it was destined for me to watch this now. I was even the one who recommended him to watch this.
Animation is really good. The sceneries, the forest is really beautiful. Music is also wonderful~ I love the voice acting <3
Gin and Hotaru looks really cute and sweet together. They just want to be together and happy.........but why, just why T^T I wanted a happy ending, but the way Gin disappeared was just beautiful~
I was expecting more, because many people say that this movie is really sad, but I guess my heart will break if they included more.
Though, it wasn't as sad as I expected (Because there are really lot of people saying that this movie is really sad. That's why I thought maybe it really is sad), but in my opinion, it's not that sad. Yes, it's sad if you will put yourself in their situation.
Anyway, a beautiful movie~ I feel like having a movie spree today since I didn't go to school today and the past few days. I shall watch Byousoku 5 Centimeter next :D
Looks like I will love Natsume~

Ehh. It was going great but the ending bugged me. It was predictable but still annoying. It didn't move me very much and it should. It would be much better if he disappeared because of touching Hotaru.
I loved the music and the rural landscapes. The atmosphere was great and it went b quickly. Characters were likeable - 6/10

Wow...just wow...

Hotaru had the most adorable cry as a child.

Watching Hotaru growing up was touching (no pun intended)...

THAT HUG! I CAN'T HOLD BACK THE TEARS! ; __ ;

That ending. Had me bawling. R.I.P. Gin ♥

Fantastic movie not a 10 but pretty damn close.

This is way better than that Anohana/Angel Beats melodrama bullshit. This is some real sad shit. I heard some users saying the ending's really sad but BOY OH BOY DID THAT HIT ME HARD!

Kind of reminds me how addiction works. People tend to love what is limited or what isn't in their reach and stimulates their brain. When given it occasionally, we look forward to it and wanting more.
Kinda same as how they can only see each other during the summer of each year, they keep longing to see each other again.

It's a quite lovable story but
What horrible sadistic parents leaves a baby in a basket in a forest all alone?!? To let it die from dehydration/hunger?!
Also how did he transform from human baby to spirit?

The ending was actually disappointing. He could stop himself from catching her falling off a tree, but he couldnt stop himself from catching a random human boy that tripped?

It seemed like he was planning to die, especially with the words before.

It wasn't bad and it was nice slice-of-life but from story-point view it felt kinda flat.

Maybe their parting scene was too sudden? But even that I don't think this anime had enough story for longer full motion picture.

He met her, he played with her, he died.

One would look for purpose of all this but there was nothing more to it. Maybe he touched that children intentionally to let Hotaru live her life and not dwell on the past? One can also understand this as abandoning of childhood's fantasies, coming of age, in a way. Then again, it is me who is devising those questions, desperately trying to find some meaning of this movie in the process.
But no matter what, it only felt as a try but one still far away from being memorable.

I know I should move on nostalgia wave but in the end there were no feels for me. Fading of summer, coming of spring, I can relate to that. But what I actually miss here is some sort of message.

When you look back and ask yourself a question - What was this movie about? What will be your answer?

Were my expectations too high?
