I like how we're seeing the same stoy from different perspectives. And a lot of interesting new characters were introduced too. I'm intrigued by this show.

I wish Miyuki Sawashiro could narrate everything in life.

Makarov - it's a she, and it's a dullahan, a type of irish fairie. (a headless horseman) One of the less pleasant kind of fairie, but by her actions I guess this one is a good guy?

The creep egging on suicidal people was pretty disturbing, but her reason for being suicidal was pretty dumb too... I'm glad it worked out in the end.

Well, the first episode left with bad feeling about this show, looked to me like a insipid shounen. But this episode really convinced me to continue.

First, if I the sub weren't wrong, the black rider is a girl. I think it's pretty interresting, rather than the asexual creature, we have a human behind this mask. And also, she seem to have a dark past and to be changing slowly.

Another thing that striked me was Izaya concept of life. Even if I disagree that we aren't unique, the way he explained it was very interresting. He's really mysterious, he doesn't seem to have motive by pushing people to their last retrenchment. What he did was cruel, but in the end, it saved the girl life. Of course, if the black rider wasn't there, she would be a splat on the floor.

The view on suicide in this episode was pretty shocking, it almost seemed like it was mundane act. But I think that it's pretty reprensative of our society, which as grown in the way of individuality. In the past, people had to help each other more than today. We are going more and more in a civilization where we must self-fulfil.

Interesting episode, and fantastic introduction to some of the main characters. It looks like we're going to have a great cast!

Mysterious and intriguing anime so far. They could have left out the "huge boobs" cliché though -_-

"Urushibara Ruka. The mannerisms and voice of a woman... No... More feminine than any woman. But he's a guy. Taller than Mayuri, but so very thin... But he's a guy. Looks great in a miko outfit... But he's a guy. It's already twilight And yet, it's so hot. The cicadas are crying. But... He's a guy."

So Izaya and the Headless Rider are anti-heroes.

Also like the narration by Miyuki Sawashiro.

So the entire episode is focused on Izaya and Rio, and focuses on Rio's perspective view from the previous episode. Izaya looks like a fun and great character and also need more information on that biker person, she is like an anti-hero of the show but more details would be appreciated.

Yeah is like Baccano; more character introductions, mystery, supernatural, but in a modern present day, and taking place in Japan.

I'm pretty satisfied with this anime, so I'm glad I picked this one up. Though I need to get used with the story and characters..Also Anri seems like another MC, so I hope we get to see more from her.

Hey i was just wondering if anyone could tell me what they think on the story Izaya had told the girl about his father and his gf and his mom. Was it true or was he trying to manipulate the girl?

I was wondering this to get insight on why Izaya is the way he is.

Thanks in advance

Ah, a different perspective of Episode 1 and a continuation of where it left off.
We have Rio being kidnapped and rescued by Izaya who's an awesome manipulative bastard.
Good thing Headless Rider was there, otherwise we'd have one less character.

So we're moving on to Seiji's and Anri's story I guess.
I’m always searching for something, for someone. This feeling has possessed me I think, from that day… That day when the stars came falling.

A good explanation is what we wanted and the result is very good, at least from time to reflect on what happened and perhaps give the excuse to begin the true story, who knows! Drawings somewhat declined as quality animations are good, the characters are intriguing, can not wait to re-discover much more about them, lovely the opening that the ending.

Hmm, well I know I'm a little late to the party but I really dislike the moral of this episode if it's honestly trying to pitch that to me. I mean it's pretty much saying "Don't worry about bad things that happen to you and completely ignore when people do horrible things to you, because you know there are happy things in the world."

As far as I'm concerned you may as well tell someone to let anyone just rape you in an alley, and then murder your friend right in front of you and just ignore it because, you know, life's also good sometimes.

I'm not really complaining about it, I just hope that's not the whole grandiose moral of this series. Aside from that, I'm not sure about the whole recycling of old scenes... but I assume by the good things I've heard about this series that it will eventually lead to something much greater. And it did tie a few things together to bring it into something a little bigger, so I still have high hopes.

Qaos said:
I can't believe she actually jumped.. Stupid girl..
Well to be fair, he intended that from the get-go... and I'm pretty certain anyone who was already at that point would've done the exact same thing. I mean she was already suicidal and then he just challenged her into doing it by pointing out that she was just an average person who was easily seen through... in a sense she was tricked more than anything else.

That was an embarassingly simplistic way they chose to deal with a heavy theme such as suicide. As if that kind of half-assed empty speech and a one-liner that sounds like it's been borrowed from a motivational meme would convince anyone who's seriously considering taking their life. The dude in black was such a massive cliche, I don't even have it in me to roll my eyes. Disappointing episode.

Well, talking in general about the episode; it was fucking beautiful. It had meaning, it had plot, it had substance, it had a moral. I loved it from start to end. The narrative was exquisite. I felt inside a book, I felt inside the story, I really felt like being a silent spectator in the story of Kamichika Rio.

"Nakura" was a complete mystery for me. Acted as a confident, as a hero and as an anti-hero in one single episode. Cruel his methods may had been, I believe his objective was to show that girl that her life was worth living. In the past episode we saw glimpses of stories of people suiciding but that people did not care anymore. This episode focused on this, in Rio, and her problems; problems that a common person can have and how they influenced in her decision of ending her life.
It all seemed like an orchestrated plan made by "Nakura" but it was the Headless rider that saved the girl in her outburst of ending her life despite "Nakuras" persuasions.

 Again, beautiful episode.

A wonderful world with different stories colliding with each other.

Funny things/side comments:
  • I loved how they cut in halves the OP to make space for the recap if the previous episode! I loved it in Baccano and surely I love it here! =D
  • It's amazing how the headless rider can type on a touchscreen phone while using gloves xD Oh well, it's not a complain just a fun observation jaja.

I was a bit confused by Magenta's appearance during the flashback portion. She looked just like the other girl, Sonohara. Apparently, in middle school, she had black hair and glasses. That was really confusing.
