I agree with most of what you said except the fact that the drama and sad backstories are contrived. Also what keeps me reading this manhawa is the fact that the writer doesn't present penelope as "the one who's right"(unlike other series like tbate) but leaves her for us to judge. penelope is selfish and arrogant and has a dislikable personality, but I still enjoy this because the story is deep and the side characters are likable.
