| Absolutely great introduction to the series. Hit all of the right emotional highs and represented every character flawlessly with amazing animation. |

| What a crazy start for the first episode. People weren't exaggerating when they said, that there will be a lot of blood lol. Denji's life has to be the worst of the worst. Not only did his father hang himself, he also left behind a gigantic debt. It had to be fate that Denji met Pochita, a devil who was about to die. I also couldn't believe my ears, what Denji sold body wise to repay that debt. When he was following that Yakuza guy, I already had a bad feeling. What a shitty and brutal way to die. Interesting enough that devils can combine with humans. Seeing Denji as a chainsaw devil in motion, slaughtering all these zombies was amazing. I know lots of people don't like CGI, but honestly it looked great. MAPPA again, did an awesome job. Denji only wanted a normal life and a girlfriend. I guess the first part won't be possible at all, but for the second part he definitely had a chance now :D I'm really interested to see where this is going. Looking forward to episode 2. |

| This is going to be a pretty big deal, huh? Coincidentally, I forgot I get triggered by chainsaws because I saw Chainsaw Massacre too young. Big time triggered right now, this is going to be pretty interesting for me. It's different getting it animated vs manga. This is already pretty incredible, CGI looks good. Just a young boy and his demon chainsaw. And dead yakuza. Awe. |
| So going into this knowing nothing about the story and basically just following the hype from the visceral monkey fanbase...uhh this was a thing. Definitely a let down for how much MAPPA marketed the fuck out of this. Pochita was the goodest boy. That's about the only compliment I have. The CG was awful and jarring. I already know that hot take is gonna have the fanboys seething and the people claiming this is already a GOAT anime masterpiece in complete and utter denial. But it is, take your copium. If it was only a small part, I'd maybe be less critical of it. But this single episode had more CGI than any episode of Attack on Titan MAPPA did. They were at least clever about it? The shading and art direction they took for characters at least allows them to mask it a bit better to the general viewer who isn't really looking for it or paying attention. But for someone who does notice, I'd say 85-90% was CGI. The entire OP, every scene in or around a car, Denji walking, the entire warehouse scene. Aside from like Denji lying in bed and in a fever dream with Pochita, it was all CGI even if it didn't appear so because there wasn't a lot of movement. Just puzzles me even more because MAPPA got A LOT of flak for the CGI in AoT. And they even ended up doing a small small bit of it without CGI in the last part. And they did it because of time and budget constraints. Something they didn't have a problem with for this series. JJK being another example. Show had hardly any CGI. And it's basically the middle ground in terms of time and budget between AoT and CSM. So how the show with the largest budget and production time seemingly got the least amount of love from the animation side of things is odd to me. Hopefully things improve, but I'm not optimistic. Can't think of too many instances where a show has a weak first episode but comes back better. Went back and looked and promo trailers and it's probably gonna get worse if anything (animation wise). Hope they at least adapt the story well for the fans who care about the content. At this point though MAPPA could go full blown Berserk level CGI with a rushed adaptation and the fanbase would still call it the best of all time AOTY. |
| Great first episode. It is difficult to survive on your own with so much debt and Denji has already endured so much. Get this man a good breakfast. Oh and the OP was amazing. |
