Such a sappy show. very melodramatic at times. But damn it's such a good story. I can't help but enjoy it.

I just know that by the end of this show I'm going to be scouring bookstores trying to find an annotated copy of the hundred poets in translation. It looks like Kana-chan joining the club is going to mean that Chihaya's grades in history will go up.

I know right? I'm completely absorbed in this, I'm really wanting to learn more about karuta from this show. :)

I don't know about Arata but I guess they will be rival or something like that, seen similiar plot so would guessed something like that.
He will begin to play Karuta again that's what I believe.

+1

Great episode! Chihaya was so beautiful.

It's my favorite anime of the season at this moment.

And there's a girl in kendo who doesn't like running. She saw the poster and wants to join.

lol~ she talks a lot. Her parents owns "hakama"... Since they don't wear, she's not joining karuta club.

She joins with condition, to help her parents shop (wear hakama).

Chihaya creates the club now so that Arata would reconsider karuta because karuta is fun.

Her club was archery, aka kyuudo as it's Romanized...not kendo. Kendo uses bamboo swords called Shinai. Also, Kana's parents own a traditional Japanese clothing store, specializing in Kimono, not just hakama. Hakama are different from kimono, although they're similar; typically worn together depending in the occasion. For women, hakama are typically worn only for graduations ceremonies, religious purposes (like Shrine maiden, aka Miko duties) and traditional Japanese sports like Aikido or Kendo.

What Chihaya wore in the brochure was mainly kimono. No hakama worn for brochure...well, maybe the 2nd photo taken of Chihaya in blue. Kana's request was for Chihaya to model for free in the brochure in exchange for her joining the club. They'd then need to rent they're own hakama for competitions, most likely from her parents (since they still need a livelihood).

Hope that clears the confusion a bit.

<3 <3 <3!!! For me, well, I'm utterly thick when it comes to interpreting poetry so I felt Chihaya's excitement in meeting someone who helped her gain a more profound understanding of the poems. They became more than just pretty words. Yay!

I love Kana's character; even I feel like I learned something about Karuta.
Of course Chihaya would be the lovely model; I totally want to see her use a kimono in an official match.

Of course still anime of the season.

Is there a way to petition a second season for Chihayafuru? Lol. Even though it's only at its 6th episode, I really don't want this anime to end. :( And I really don't think 25 episodes is enough!

Plus, I really don't want Chihaya's love life to be ambiguous! (Chihaya x Arata all the way!)

Anyhow, Chihaya looks too beautiful with hakama. ;w;
They'll be more gorgeous now that they'll play while wearing those.

Nice change of pace in this episode. By now, we're used to seeing lots of intensity in karuta, so it was very nice for Kana to give a different point of view and emphasise artistry rather than competition. Clever to do this in episode 6, too - the way karuta's been presented so far, it's late enough that you can see things from Chihaya's point of view, but early enough that you can still see things from Kana's point of view.

I remember it changing in episode 4 or 5, and I didn't see anything different in this episode, so I think you're right.

This episode made me love the series more!

Thumbs up to the new character! She gave a new texture in playing Karuta! The stories behind each poems are really interesting. Maybe they're even more interesting if you can understand Japanese (sadly, I don't). Anyways, I really love it! :D

I hope Chihayafuru continue to get better! :)

The atmosphere is still there and it made karuta much more interesting. I'm not a fan of poetry but with this ep, I felt like one.

And I seriously demand Chihaya in kimono NOWWW!!! :D

I really enjoyed this episode. Adding Kana into the mix sheds a whole new light on Karuta. Not once did I ever consider the actual poetry involved, all I ever thought about was the game play. It'll be nice to see how this may effect their playing styles.

Also, because of his background, I wonder if Arata plays the game with the actual poems in mind...Or perhaps he was just raised as a Karuta robot. (Just kidding. ;))

Lol at her reading a Higashiyama culture book. I still have yet to read that. She's quite the traditional Japanese culture (mostly Higashiyama but since she seems to be interested in Heian and early Kamakura as well) enthusiast....

This episode was a pure bliss for someone obsessed by East Asian culture lol.

Also, major character development: now that Chihaya is interested by the true meanings of the poems, she can learn to even enjoy the game further. Plus, she can promote their ceremonial dress as well lol.

Seriously, I had my doubts when I was considering watching Chihayafuru (and even after watching the first episode).

Now, I can confidently say I'm glad I went with it. I'm in love <3 It has its flaws for sure, but it is gorgeous to look at and listen to, humour is (mostly) spot-on, and the characters each have their own charm. So far, there isn't a character I hate. Kana, too, is a welcome addition to the cast, as she presents such a different perspective (and lots of info/insight for the viewer as well as Chihaya). It just keeps getting better and better.

Me for most of the episode: @_@ [Aika (the blue haired one, obviously)]

Still though, beautiful episode. I didn't read the whole discussion, but I'm surprised no one in the first page of discussion mentioned that Arata's brief appearance came with Chihaya mentioning "deep, red love".

So while there wasn't much Arata this episode, the context of the appearance left me quite satisfied.

My god, this series has one of the best eye-artwork, in my opinion. Those eyes say so much, being 2-D only. And Chihaya is sure as hell beautiful. Anyways, the episode was good. Finally, I realized that Arata didn't turn out to be a total dick and finally said goodbye to them in a good way—which didn't seemed like it'd happen by watching the last episode. I, also, think it was his fault that his granddad died. I mean, he was old. Arata couldn't have done anything for him besides listening to his final words like "Be the best Karuta player", if he had been there beside him during the stroke. Still, I can sorta relate to how he's been feeling. Overall, good episode. I'm looking forward to this series.

I love the attachment of history to the Hundred Poets! Not so much into names but the setting of each poem is intriguing. And I love how deep she takes the meaning. :)

Good promotion of the cultural aspect of Japan too. :) No wonder this has a good enough budget! ;D

I hope we get to hear more stories!! Else, google it is!
