That's horrible. I don't get how someone can react this way. I mean, it's just a manga. Why make a big deal? But, the way the letter says "Fujimaki deprived me of everything" makes me wonder if maybe the sender had an idea for a similar manga and thinks Fujimaki stole it from him. That's really the only explanation that makes any sense, but still, sending threats to schools and doujinshi events doesn't seem like it would help much. After all, it's not like they have more than a circumstantial connection to Fujimaki. That said, i love the KuroBas manga and hope they catch the creeper as soon as possible.

Looks like the mad poisoner won and it's a damn shame

There are better people to poison than one mangaka and a whole bunch of doujin events.

So it's pretty serious. huh~. Mostly these kind of news just go with lolz. I wonder if they provided security to mangaka.

There are negatives but looking at positive. That guy is making manga and mangaka lot more popular. I wonder how it will affect the sales.

I won't lie, my initial assumption was some angry fujoshi upset over some sort of heterosexual plot development. I'm 99% sure it wouldn't be the first time such a thing happened.

Now.. that certainly can happen.

Its a personal grudge against Fujimaki not the manga.

Cause in one of the letters it said "Fujimaki took everything away from me"

After the shutdown of a KuroBas exhibition almost 2 weeks earlier than scheduled, a KuroBas doujin event in Osaka was also cancelled. The perpetrator is winning, sadly.....
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Damage is spreading. Now the KuroBas doujin event in Sapporo is also cancelled because it also received a threatening letter.

Maybe it's a guy who is pissed that some girl he likes, likes this anime.

Like how young guys hate boybands, but then more extreme. It would also explain why a doujinshi event was targeted.

I knew a guy who got super pissed a female friend started liking yaoi, even though he watched the craziest hentai himself.

That is actually part of the manga (little after-chapter bloopers that Fujimaki puts in), so that can't be the parody. I think, maybe this retard was a friend of Fujimaki. But something happened and he cursed Fujimaki (or tried to). Now that he saw that Fujimaki has become successful and famous, he got mad and started threatening Fujimaki.

Yeah, yeah. I know. That's quite far-fetched, but it's possible.

Wow, aren't Mangaka's in Japan protected by police and stuff, I mean they are there like really famous people, so shouldn't they have bodyguards and stuff? :D

Anyway Fujimaki needs to hire some protection until all of this is settled and done, and police has to catch that freak really fast, all kinds of KuroBasu events are being canceled all across Japan, due to this season 2 could be delayed as well.

Good thing is that Fujimaki is not afraid of that bastard and is continuing manga no matter what.

It is not the safety of the mangaka at risk there though. It is the ability of fans to organize events to celebrate KuroBas that is being seriously disrupted. More than half a dozen major KuroBas fan events have been forced to cancel due to explicit threats sent to event organizers. Threat was also sent to Comiket but that event is too big (and only a small part of it is related to KuroBas) to be cancelled. Police security and scrutiny is expected to be increased very substantially when it is held later this month.

Many people are guessing this is a copycat terrorist though. The KuroBas terrorist mentioned grudges that are particularly relevant only to KuroBas' author.

The problem is, the ineptitude of the police as well as fear of being blamed for the event organizers mean that it is easy for crazy fans or mean-spirited pranksters to stop any kind of doujin events with just a letter of threat. Doujin world sees only dark and grim road ahead with all these copycats roaming around.

Seems like there are many of them, I can doujin going underground for about 5-10 years because of this unless the copycats and the original are stopped.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-10-28/kuroko-basketball-dvds-manga-removed-from-tsutaya-rental-chain

Major Japanese video, CD, manga, and video game rental chain Tsutaya confirmed on Monday that it has removed all Kuroko's Basketball DVD and manga rentals from its stores. The issue was brought to attention by a Twitter user, who said she had been told by an employee that Tokyo's Ikebukuro Station west exit branch had removed all Kuroko's Basketball items on Monday, and that all such DVD and manga would be removed from all branches across the country by November 3.

The Culture Convenience Club, the company that owns Tsutaya, told ITmedia's website Netlab, “This is the truth. […] We made this decision after analyzing the current situation.” There are over 1,300 Tsutaya branches throughout Japan.

.
.
.
.

The convenience store chains 7-Eleven and Family Mart as well as other companies such as Sankei Shimbun received new threat letters earlier this month that said that the sender has put poison and agricultural chemicals in various Kuroko's Basketball confectionery snacks. As a result, 7-Eleven temporarily removed the "Voi-Colle Kuroko's Basketball Wafers 2" cookies, and Family Mart stopped selling the "Ichiban Kuji Kuroko no Basuke ~Seirin & Kaijō~" lottery merchandise line. The Circle K Sunkus store chain is also considering suspending sales of the merchandise.

Thread necro, apparently the terrorist wins again. What the heck is going on with those clown polices in Japan?!?!?!?

So now it's not just doujin and snacks but the actual manga, BDs, and DVDs, it won't be long until Kuroko is removed from everywhere but online retailers due to the cowardice of the Police. Even worse there could be more terrorists on in this not just the one crazy with a vendetta against the author.

However, other stores will take notice of this and do the same it's what whoever is doing this wants, a slow chain reaction that will keep everything related to the series off the shelves. When something like this happens you have to prepare for the worst rational situation to happen.

I share your indignation but I think it is a bit rash to sound alarmist. It is sad that the business thinks succumbing to the terrorist's threats is the best way forward, because at the end this will likely to just feed the ambition of the criminals. And I would also say that while some of the caution may have to do with the natural risk-aversion often associated with Japanese, some of fit may have to do with the incompetence of the police too.

If you just say otaku, the image that is conjured is usually male. At least this is how the word goes in Japan.
