What are your favorite metal subgenres? Favorite artists and albums?
I like heavy metal that mixes in traditional instruments, like Undead Corporation's 鬼伽草子 album. Another example would be the song Abandoned Temple from Tekken.

Man, you got me with those, especially Dolorian. Been 10 years since I get into their music and still can't find anything similar. Sadly they don't release any albums since 2006 and most likely into indefinite hiatus. (Probably they're too busy with side projects)

I've been obsessed with the Voidwards album for some time, there's truly nothing like their music. Some albums I've found so far which vaguely come close to it would be Monumentum's 'In Absentia Christi', Sadness' 'Ames de Marbre' and Unholy's 'The Second Ring of Power' (more or less they have that kind of otherworldly feel). Nice username, btw.

I'll definitely check them out. Also I'd recommend you to check Vargtimmen album of Bethlehem is also similar (Black mixed doom) to Voidwards. I only listened From the Shadows of Unholy. It was decent but nothing like Dolorian but I'll check other album also as you said.

Thank you :) my nickname is coming from Ulver's demo album.

Viking metal, folk metal. Maybe gothic metal sometimes. Basically, any would do, as long as it has an amazing guitar solo.

Icelandic metal is dope, btw.

Technical death metal is king in terms of absolute brutality. (Un)fortunately because of my age, I got into metal around the 2008 hot topic deathcore era.
But the stuff I prob listen to the most now, would be the death metal inspired hardcore I listen to when I go to the gym.

I like several different subgenres, but the ones i listen to most prominently are Black Metal and Power Metal. Turns out the two can be mixed rather competently.

Black metal is my favorite. I think of all the subgenres it's the one that most epitomizes the sinister feel that sets heavy metal music apart from just plain old hard rock.

But I also like death metal and other subgenres.

Fave bands include:
Peste Noire
Inquisition
Mgla
Hate Forest
Immortal
Carcass

It's been years since I've been into metal and now, the only bands whose music I still remember are Metallica and Get Scared. Can't say if I just didn't like the others or they're just so damn forgettable lol. I mostly listened to post-hardcore and there are only few remarkable bands in that genre

Ooh! Glad to see a post about Metal on here. Call me generic, but I don't really have a favourite genre, but I do listen to a lot of metalcore. Thrash is good too! Recently, I've been very into Japanese Metal. I like bands such as Metallica, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, Alestorm, Lamb of God, Sepultura, Atlantis Chronicles, etc. (I definitely recommend Atlantis Chronicles, they're a death metal band with themes relating to the sea and underwater fantasy and such!)

Also, I saw someone say that metal sucks and that it takes no talent. I'm not going to quote them because there's no use arguing with people who have no fucking idea how to respect other people's preferred music, so I'll say this:

I agree! 100%. Sometimes you have to break it down and see everything that goes into making metal music to see that it truly does take talent.

I listen to pretty much every big metal genre besides doom and black for the most part. Usually stick to deathy, thrashy, or proggy stuff. I also have a big soft spot for Metallica because ...AJFA was one of my favorite albums as a kid and is still one of my favorites to this day. Been a metalhead since I was about 10 and I'm pretty glad haha.

Also, still being in highschool, it kinda sucks that not many people like metal but it also gets easier and easier. I've been finding out a lot more people like it than I originally though. It gets pretty lonely sometimes still tho.

Songs I've been into lately that kinda represent what I like:

Too soon to let this topic just fade away.

I mostly listen Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Thrash Metal, Death Metal, Doom Metal, Black Metal and the subgenres that come from mixing them.

I do listen to other metal genres, like Prog, Symphonic and Viking metal but less often.

This is probably old news for a lot of people, but it doesn't hurt mentioning it again. There's this pretty cool power metal band called Battle Beast which frequently writes songs about Berserk.
Check them out.

I think i never replied to this thread but i made a few in the past about metal here too. And its possible that we had contact already.

So yeah, im a huge metal fan and if you ever want to discuss or something feel free to dm or something.

Fav zones are the Black and Death but i listen to pretty much every corner of metal except one or 2.

Do i have a band/project? Yes, i had various bands/projects in the past that range from old school death metal to raw black. Currently working on the first demo for my Raw/Atmosperic Black project. And in september i will start working on another project/band probably withing black metal too. Met a few dudes these days here in town and we want to do some sht together. Sadly summer break starts tomorrow and i need to move to another city, being back in semptember and then we get together again.\m/

Once again, feel free to add me/pm or something if you want to talk about metal.

I am a metalhead nerd so it will be difficult for me to name my favorite album or subgenre, but if I don't strain my brain so much and take a look at last fm, then I mostly listen to traditional genres of extreme metal and suddenly power. I love cool brutality and catchy melody, so if some band doesn't combine both of these things at the same time, then I usually listen to both genres next to each other.

It will probably be easier with groups:
Battle beast
Sabaton
Children of bodom
Lordi
Annihilator
Five Finger Death Punch
Dragonforce
Death
Threshold
Equilibrium
