I never review but this was one of the only times in my life I've cried to a anime or any media. This episode just has so much darkness around it it felt like everything was going wrong, every character had something dark driving them and some sort of trauma, extremely heavy episode but a masterpiece 10/10, it had me anxious the whole time and the last scene really toped it off. I didn't think episode 2 could top episode 1, and I didn't think episode 3 could top 2 but I was so wrong. Prob will be the most emotional episode of the show and we are only half way now... man...

you can never tell where the story is going to go in this show. also, all the parents in this show are so horrible. if they are going to use that time machine, they should just get rid of all the parents. ngl, even tho takopi can be annoyingly stupid at times, you have to feel bad for him, bro just wants everyone to be happy and is gettiing punished for it. Also, it is really sad to see how much shizuka's moral compass has gotten so f*cked up.

Think the writer is trying to tell us something about today's males???? A guy who abandoned his kid and left her with a struggling mom, a POS who openly cheats on and abuses his wife and a simp who will do anything for validation. Pretty accurate commentary on modern men in general.

You see how that sounds insane and completely stupid? The writer is trying to talk about cycles of abuse and how children become distorted by their environment and failure from the adults in their life. I have no idea where you got the modern women idea from when every single person we have seen in the show so far has had some sort of flaw or trauma.
@Adizcool
I don't want necessarily to agree with the guy above, but to be fair:
1) We don't know why Shizuka's dad left. We only know that Shizuka's parents got divorced and the mother got the child. So there was a legal process, it's not like the guy just went to buy some milk and never came back. Shizuka loves him more than her mom, it seems. And we don't know if he sends them any money or not.
2) So far there were no indications of Shizuka's mom struggling. Shizuka is struggling, yes, but not her mom. It's implied that Shizuka is on some kind of social welfare program, but it doesn't mean anything if her mother's income comes from illegal activities or as gifts. We don't see any attempts from the mother to save money for her child and we don't know if she is actually working all night or she is just spending time and money having fun. Single mom ≠ victim.
3) Not every single person in the show has a flaw or trauma. Azuma's brother seems pretty nice (at least so far).

I don’t know whose side to take while watching this anime. Everything feels complex—on one hand, it feels right, but on the other, it feels wrong.
Episode 3 tells the story following Marina’s death caused by Takopi’s device. I noticed that Shizuka doesn’t seem to feel any guilt at all (perhaps because of the constant torment she endured from Marina).
In this episode, Azuma, who has feelings for Shizuka, ends up being dragged into the mess. Azuma himself has issues with his parents, who never gave him the same love and attention they gave to his older brother, which caused him to resent his brother.
Takopi, who takes Marina’s place in her home after her death, eventually has his identity discovered by Marina’s mother.
At the end, Marina’s body is found by the authorities. I’m really curious to see how the story will continue in the next episode.
I’m afraid Shizuka might go to jail, but at the same time, I feel that Shizuka really needs mental healing.

Ohhh no I dont have a good feeling about Takapii dropping the Transformation Palette in the bedroom.

That hit me seeing Takopii realizing the larger impact of causing Marina's death and crying, had me cry some too.

I jist want to hug all those 4th graders and Takopii

@feo_san Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the male characters can jut be reduced to what I said in the comment, I was just trying to show just how stupid it is to pick one gender and label some flaws in each of them and then try to morph that into some sort of critique on modern women.

As for Shizuka's dad, we know too little about him to say anything, but one thing we definitely know is that Shizuka's family is struggling hard. You can really see that with the state the house is in. Everything from the welfare program for Shizuka to the free lunches she gets, which is a program only for the really poor families in Japan, tells us that their condition is not good. While there might be a very slim chance that the mom is pocketing all the cash and is living just fine, that borders into theory region without any evidence from the show itself. Also, I'm not saying that she is a victim just cause she is a single mom. We already know she is a horrible parent from the previous episodes, but that and her financial situation are two different things.

The plot seems to be flowing well so far. I really like how the series is doing stuff with what it already has and ditched the time loop mechanic, now we're seeing how Shizuka is slowly showing how corrupted she actually is, the trauma that Azuma has and... the good number of plot twists that make this story not be as predictable as initially thought. It's surely a fact that this story won't end well, that all I could tell, or they could fix everyone's core problems by the end by a deus ex machina which is also something I might predict.

I love this anime, and so far I have it rated a 10/10, but I'm having conflicted feelings about this. I bonded emotionally with Shizuka in episode 1, and seeing Shizuka slowly turning into a psycho, going to the dark side, and even manipulating the boy to do bad things like stealing the ring is giving me conflicted emotions, you can say that Shizuka is even a bad influence to the boy right now so I don't know, let's see how this goes.

I hope my beloved Shizuka doesn't get any crazier than this, but I bet she will.

Think the writer is trying to tell us something about today's females???? A whore, a manipulating psycho who forced her husband to seek affection elsewhere, another diabolical mom who takes joy in belittling her youngest, one young girl who is a sadistic bully, and another who manipulates boys to get what she wants. Pretty accurate commentary on modern women in general.

Well, biggest evil of all these children is their parents. Their upbringing is terrible.

But seeing Shizuka being such an awful example of a person (not that she could be anything else with the life she lived) made me think that maybe there was a reason she died in that universe lol

Azuma getting dragged to it too...

I feel like MC is going to find out Chappy is dead like Marina said and end up killing herself. Except this time before she can do that, everyone life will be ruined already.

And could it be that Takopi was BANNED for Happy planet or something? He's like "wait, how come I can't come back?"

Idk slap that alien's bitch face Marina's mom... T_T THIS FREAKING ANIME IS MAKING ME GO INSANE

Yeah bro, scum just runs in the Shizuka family bloodline, because what the actual fuck is this girl's problem? Azuma has some sort of common sense, but because he, for plot purposes, likes Shizuka, dude obviously is gonna let it slide and help out. And because of that, yet again, he lets this girl manipulate him by stealing the ring from his brother... Seriously, this is some next-level obsessiveness, I swear.

The plan doesn’t go fully as planned ofc, but still. The fact that it even crossed his mind is just crazy. Like yeah, what a happy, loving family and mother he has, and he seriously thought about doing that... Meanwhile, our girl "Mari" is going through it, with her dad being just... yeah, and her mom slapping the shit out of her multiple times. Can totally see where she got that from, I guess. At least Takopii's finally starting to understand the consequences of their actions...

Oh, and they’ll see the consequences even more now because, would ya guess it, the body was found. Jesus.

it's not entirely that azuma has a thing for shizuka. It's more like shizuka makes him feel needed and valued unlike his parents

It's incredible how in one episode Takopi went from not really caring that it killed Suzuka, to regretting everything. I'm even more surprised that it doesn't feel rushed at all. The scene of flashbacks with Suzuka's family really stings hard.
I want to see where this goes next since Suzuka's mother has realized that Takopi replaced her, and Suzuka's body has been found. I want to see what happens even though I know it's going to get sadder.

these are the worst adults i ever saw in anime:
-a prostitute who cares for no one but her self
-a cheater
-a mother who pushes her own trauma on her daughter
-a father who abandoned his family
-a mother who has ungodly expectations of her son
-a teacher who is just there for her paycheck
@NeoSchizo easy to generate (self-)harm content with this roster, dont you think?

I get the impression Shizuka's mom cares about her but she doesn't know how to be a parent and is so caught up trying to scrape by. She possibly seems to be just in her 20s and could have had her as a teenager.

Aether18 said:

I dont think she was starving him. What she did was make the pancakes as a reward if he gets a 💯 and as a punishment of something taken away if he doesnt get it. Had she only stuck to giving rewards without putting him down and swiping away from him that would have been fine but she was doing it in form of emotional abuse with negative reinforcement punishing him when he did no wrong.

Absolute Cinema 🙌 This episode really changed my mind about Marina. On the other hand, Shizuka started to take advantage the boy just like her mother. it's like the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree

Honestly, the way she began to manipulate azuma really stunned me,I guess that seed has already been sewn.At first she was meek and quiet and I think that was her stripped down to her most basic defences and her basic will to survive. When that threat is removed you start to see the more complex impacts of her neglectful/abusive household come through.

This anime is so hard to watch. I related to some of Shizuka and Marina's struggles as a kid, especially that thing her mom does where she sweet talks Marina while slapping her.
It sends such conflicting signals when you do that, it makes you think you're going crazy.

I genuinely hate how real this anime feels to me, to the point where I might have to actually drop it. Not because it's a bad anime but because it's very painful to watch.

At the same time, I want to see how it ends, how the characters deal with such distant parents. I hope they or Takopi report their parents to some sort of authority, it's ridiculous how these "parents" are parents, they don't deserve to have children.
