The rating for the series jumped up from around 7.68 to 7.71 in the last few hours.

Considering the fact that it started off at around rank #1500 or so, AFAIK, and will get into top 1000 with the next ranking update, it sure made quite an improvement. Not that it matters though.

Eh, several reasons.

First and foremost, this whole family business with everyone trying to put him down. The idea that his family could twist the rules so that he and ONLY he is somehow an F-Rank knight (which is never really explained very well in the anime, IMO) is fairly ridiculous.
Adding onto the ridiculousness was the whole imprisonment charade. You simply cannot imprison someone and put them on a fake trial because of their involvement in a relationship. Trying to make out that the relationship was 'illicit' is still completely besides the point as far as the law goes. I understand that the idea was his family was willing to do whatever it took to try and sabotage him, but the way they did it was just completely unbelieveable. It broke my suspension of disbelief and made the entire plot seem ridiculous.

So yeah, hopefully that's enough insight as to why the last few episodes were disappointing. Sorry, this reply turned out a lot longer than I had expected it to be lol - but then, I suppose that's just a sign of my disappointment. I was enjoying this so much at the start that I've found this ending a real shame. It's took it from a 7 or 8 out of 10 to a 5 for me.
Enjoyable enough to watch, but I guess I got my hopes up too high.

Don't take this as an insult, but it really seems like you weren't paying attention to the show at all from your impressions. They explained most of your issues/complaints in the show, not even the LN. I mean, it wasn't crystal clear on some occasions, but you somehow misunderstood like..... everything.

He was an F-rank because he had shit for magical power, which is what Blazers were ranked on. That is completely logical. F-rank doesn't mean he can't do anything else, just that he has very little magical ability. There was no rule twisting, that is just how Knights were originally classified until the new director came along and decided to change up the criteria (which yes, Ikki's family was against, but the director don't play no shit!). Again, this was explained in the show and honestly in a fair amount of detail.

Second, Ikki wasn't being held because of any law that prevent illicit relationships. He was being held by an ethics committee run by the powerful Kurogane family which were effectively the feudal lords of that particular nation. Ikki did nothing wrong legally, hence why they were trying to slander him in the paper with a bunch of false accusations. The illicit relationship was just to pile onto the scandal as it was with the Princess of another nation. The whole point of the trial was how much of a sham it was, it was just Ikki's dad flexing his political power to get what he wanted and to try and force Ikki himself to relent. The only reason they just don't flat out have him executed is that it could incite rebellion because of the show he's put on and the people he has already inspired, so they attempted the smear campaign instead.

Lastly... the relationship, with Ikki/Stella and your view on the cabin scene. You aren't looking at this from the Japanese perspective that it was written from. They are chivalrous Knights, presuming a lot of a relationship isn't really what they do. The cabin scene he even said, it's not that he doesn't want to fuck her, but he was worried about what their relationship would look like (as we saw from the scandal) publicly and he wanted to be able to honestly say nothing was going on between them at the moment, no matter how much he wanted to.

The series answers all these, and I feel like you missed a lot of that context somehow, which is unfortunate.

Well quick conclusion for me it was a Masterpiece in its own setting, wich is what matters for me, not what the LN did or how they reused a track once wich i didnt even realise until someone said it here, sure it could have still improved, but in its own setting it was by far the best one I saw so far. 10/10 obv.

Just plain awesome.
I don´t even care that there wasn´t an epic 10-minute-long fight scene.
We got plenty of action in ep 1-10 but 11 and 12 build up so much tension that I nearly bursted.
This series really stands out this season, hell even this year. The animation was gorgeous, it even compares to the likes of Unlimited Blade Works or OPM(for the most part at least).
Kinda sad how this is only a single season but Asterisk gets a second cour.
Although I am happy they concluded the story arc and didn´t have a major "Read the LN" cliffhanger. Overall I´m impressed that a show that is literally about "Magical Knights" can build a good romance, compelling characters and a story that makes sense and doesn´t rely on Ex Machinas or stupid story twists to keep the plot moving.
To be honest I don´t consider Ikki´s on-blow-KO a Ex Machina, mainly because there is a valid explanation on how it works. Instead of releasing all his power in about 10 seconds (itto shoura) he puts it into one single blow. Doesn´t sound that far fetched to me.
The only thing to nitpick is the amount of plot armor Touda has. I mean Ikki did not hold back like in his first battle with the crazy guy(the one that had like the forest and whatnot), her blade shattered and his blade should´ve cut right through her. Not that I would´ve wanted it to be that way, it would just be the "physics" kind of thing to do.

Yea and the usual Amazon "stalker points" can't be trusted here, because of the bonus merchandise people get from getting it from certain different stores than Amazon, so we probably won't know the results until the figures that include those sales are available.

Oh and the score on MAL is still rising. It was at 7.68 right before subs were released, around 7.71 2-3 hours ago and has now reached 7.73

If the last episode left a good impression in Japan too, then maybe it will boost sales a bit.

Yea, as I said those projected sales are supposedly only for Amazon but due to the bonus merchandise, a lot of people supposedly buy it from different places, because Amazon doesn't have these boni. At least someone over at AS forums mentioned this once, AFAIK.

I noticed that before Ep 12 aired, the average jumped up from 7.59 to 7.66. I wonder what led to that sudden increase because it happened way after Ep 11 aired...

Kind of have to agree with ItzMaz here.

Tbh, I'm more underwhelmed because Rakudai didn't seem to reach the potential itself set up early. Here you have this great couple, with a great chemistry, but only one of the two is allowed to shine, while Stella is like constantly denied of every opportunity where she could shine in favor of Ikki doing everything by himself. It also makes him look more like a gary stu. It wouldn't matter if she was a side character even, the chances were there but missed - annoyingly so.

I'm talking about chances like Ikki's rigged fights - 1st with Ayatsuji & then this final one where he was in being in absolutely no condition to fight due to lack of decent food & sleep, if nothing else. Heck, the show even goes out of it's way to show Ikki almost collapsing on his way there. The only good part about all this was that at least it makes sense that he'd want to finish his fight with Todo as fast as possible being in the state he is but still, my suspension of disbelief was stretched too much and Stella was denied yet another chance to shine or heck, other characters even.

In the end all Ikki got were people believing in him - there's a limit to how much you can play that card until one call's BS.

Some authors need to stop being afraid to let their characters loose sometimes - it's not the end of the world, it does wonders to build tension and it helps weaken some of that plot armor, even if it's only to deceive the audience for a few moments. The most exciting fights were Shizuku vs Touka & perhaps Ikki vs Kuraudo, and the fact that the result wasn't played a big part to that(besides them being awesomely animated, of course).

Rant aside though, still quite an enjoyable show though that sadly didn't meet it's own potential in the end. Will watch a 2nd season if there's one, of course.

I think it was the moment when the status of the series was changed to "completed". That causes ratings that are based on less than 1/5th (or so) of the series to be ignored, so people who dropped it withing the first 2 (or so) episodes with a low ranking are no longer included in the score.

Psh, what a bunch of swordplay ignorants...

When you got a match between two masters, there is no muddling about. Everything happens in fractions of a second where one person succeeds and the other doesn't. Swords are swords, not clubs. Too often swordplay is very unrealistically portrayed in anime, tv, and film...but sometimes we're fortunate enough to catch glimpses of it. Ofc in this case, it isn't about killing, but in the real world, if you were extremely efficient at making killing or incapacitating blows, it would take a master to even be able to parry or dodge it. But a master would be prepared for a counter (of which their move would harshly limit possible responses) and have a follow-up planned, again all in fractions of a second. If you're both after eachother in offence, then it's kinda like a joust: whoever fails to misdirect the other's sword and make the hit, loses. And if you both fail to deflect then it's a double kill, both lose. Anime and tv like to show off the flippy gymnastics of "sword dancing," which they claim to be real fights, where they're busy aiming at eachother's swords like amateurs.

If Ikki didn't use this method he either woulda lost hard immediately, or lasted once and beaten after energy was worn out. The longer a sword fight drags on, the worse it'll turn out; whoever has the most stamina will automatically win.

I remember some episodes back, the part with Ayase, i found that whole posture thing very interesting and makes a lot of sense, but i couldn't find any information on kinetics of male vs female physiology...

This anime just won't end up with the same popularity as Asterisk, simply because of staffing differences. This show isn't animated as cleanly and so on, and didn't have the build-up ahead of time. Good though this may be, Asterisk is presented better.

I gave this an 8/10, same as where i stand with Asterisk.

Ah its over. I wanted more action considering they hyped us so much for the final battle. But its okay I guess, they didnt fail to make that one swing intense. I really like this show probably one of my favorite this season. Its clichéd in a lot of aspects but it took all those clichés did them the right way. All the action scenes were amazing, nice action sequence and animation. The animation quality dropped a little though in the final battle. The only thing I didnt like about this anime is the music. The music is really horrible which is a shame. It could have made the action scenes even more intense.

Well now Im hoping for a second season. Hopefully this wont just be an anime to promote the light novel.

In MAL, decent shows' rating almost always gets an additional +/- 0.3 after it ends. You will need to wait for the dust to settle to really get a reliable rating.

That was the best most awesome way it could have proceeded, though it woulda been nice to have actually been able to see the actual clash and not just rage-face build up then kaput... Half an ep of club swinging woulda been boring.

Intellectually, the combat in this series was spot-on, however kinetically it didn't par.

I can't really get why his father hates hi so much?At least Stella's dad called Ikki's dad and said that they shouldn´t interfere in their kids lifes...but as we can clearly hear he was also agains his win and his marriage with Stella, so we may suppose that he is also involve in Ikki's interrogation/prison time...

On those aspects Rakudai is A LOT better than Asterisk and it should be by all means better.

Great finale, I would give a 7/10 the series.

Does anyone know how is the Identity Piano Ver. from this episode named?

What do you mean Identity Piano Ver?
It's played in the background several time.
Kickstarter for Rokujouma is fully funded. Good work everyone. Lets wait for the result of our hard work together.

I did not pay much attention to the soundtrack. I mostly spent my time watching the events on unfold.

it better gets a season 2 , i really can't believe that Gakusen already has a season 2 planned and this doesn't seriously they were almost the same after the first episode yet i feel like Rakudai only made good choices compared to Gakusen which resulted in Rakudai completly overwriting . The Comedy was Great , the characters really were likable and let's not talk about the gorgeous animation and design , the fight scenes have been a real pleasure for the eyes especially Shizuku vs Touka .
If i had to describe this anime in 1 sentence i'd say : Despite its Generic Setting and plot , it managed to be Refreshing and pretty damn enjoyable to watch

Also while I can understand some people simply not liking the series for several reasons and rating it low, which is completely fine by itself, I still noticed a few close-minded individuals (sorry for switching off my political correctness safety for a moment) that seem to dislike the series simply for the fact that it "tries to do more than a 'mere' magic high school series should be doing and 'tries too hard' to be more than it ever can be". Seriously, if that's what you think, then fine, but keep in mind that you are basically acting in the exact same way as Ikki's father acts toward Ikki... just something to think about.

your last paragraph got me. Some ppl are just ignorant to say the father's doing is unrealistic, even though they are doing exactly the same thing
Overall, the anime is enjoyable, one of the better this year to me
