If you mean in that terms of it having a manga started before the series, the anime only covered a small part of it and diverged from the manga rather early on. The manga is JUST about to end in a few months. Wikipedia said: Initially released before the anime series of the same name, the manga was quickly outpaced by the TV series, and is now reaching its conclusion, over 15 years after the TV series concluded. Anyway: Ergo Proxy I found to be quite unique for throwing in multiple allusions I still have yet to uncover, and pretty much any detail matters. The story is also told unconventionally (i.e. the beginning-middle parts of each episode made little sense but the ending of each episode helped tie what you saw back into the plot) Mawaru Penguindrum simply blew me away for all the twists in the story it offered. Serial Experiments Lain because it was a very intriguing mind bending watch and mystery. Texhnolyze for its very, very, mature/adult themes with an ending that...hits you in the gut. Beautiful. |

I regard it as one of the best. Here are my other opinions. Best adapted anime from a manga.....Death Note. Best adapted anime from a Light Novel....Katanagatari. Best sequel anime....Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai |

Having said that: Gorgeous visuals, equally gorgeous soundtrack, and insane story. Trifecta for me. |

| Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha. I got attached to the main cast, Hei is such a great protagonist, acts cold-hearted, but is truly the most sincere character in the show. I also liked Yin and Huang's development, but Mao had the best personality! Character designs are gorgeous and very detailed, animation is top-notch and action scenes were truly entertaining to watch. For me this show has special feel to it, the atmosphere is somewhat unique that I've never felt before. |
