This episode focused much more on Shiori and her own connection with Hinako. It's been just as important as Hinako's own character story in the show. No matter what though, it looks like Shiori was trying to be as honest as possible.

Lots of Shiori/Hinako bonding. They are truly a fascinating yet strange duo. One more episode to go, and I still don't have any idea how they are going to end the show. Hoping for a big surprise.

WAIT THIS DOESN’T END TODAY HOLY SHIT??! Could’ve sworn it was 12 episodes, that was a nice surprise for me, but I stayed up writing a review last night lol oh well I’ll have that done. “Hinako, please don’t die. Be like you were then and smile at me” “I need you” ahh my tragic yuri.π₯Ή This was such an absolutely heartbreaking episode. On one hand, Shiori finally had the long awaited conversation with Hinako and came clean about what she wants. On the other hand, Hinako just reaffirmed that nothing’s changed and she still wants to die. The way they were at an impasse really got me sad af because that’s such an accurate representation of having a loved one with depression. You obviously don’t want them to die and want to be with them, but you don’t want to be selfish and prevent them from having what they want. When Miko told Shiori to talk to Hinako and try having an earnest conversation for once, we all assumed it would have a positive outcome. But all that meant was to actually LISTEN to Hinako and find out what she wants, and that’s still death. It’s horribly sad, but you have to respect that. A NEW BLOOD PACT AND A KISS, HELLO??!!!! This is gayer than a straight up confession in my books idc. There’s actual human beings who were asking how this is yuri on MAL a few weeks ago btw lol. Just because the characters don’t explicitly say things doesn’t mean the implied meaning isn’t there. This is all an allegory for queerness and depression! The sheer look of pain on Shiori’s face as she made that new promise with Hinako broke me too. She wants nothing more than to see Hinako happy and smiling again and Hinako just wants that release of death. Technically, that lip bite was Shiori “eating” Hinako. I wonder if that’ll come into play later in the story! This was some massive character development for Shiori though as she’s finally learning to compromise and see things from other peoples’ perspectives. Even tho it didn’t go the way she wanted, she was still able to learn what Hinako wanted and it was a positive conversation. Poor Miko just been at school the whole time wondering where her two best friends are and Hinako comes back with a cut on her lip from Shiori. The way she was more upset about that than anything is killing me “Since that pain is something she gave me. I’ll have to take good care of it.” π I actually am so devastated for Shiori after this episode, I really wanna give her a hug.

Shiori finally ate Hinako! kinda, a quick taste test. "As long as you stay happy like you used to and stay by my side, I will kill you eventually' Shiori definitely wants to keep Hinako alive until she's old, what a twisted yet sweet promise. ![]()

Well this episode went quite literally the only way it possibly could, like the only other way this could have gone is Hina killing herself. But I mean for now another fake promise is the only thing to keep Hina alive. idk I ain't got too much to say really it was generally a fine episode.

Another masterpiece episode! That whole scene on the beach was really beautiful I really understand Hinako in many ways, so this scene was especially touching for me. And i can really understand this feeling when you dont want to live But mermaid was able to convince her to not kill herself and btw in a rather realistic way. This was one of the real ways to resist suicidal tendencies: "live another day", "buying time" There was something similar in the manhwa Suicide Boy, where main character also realizes at one point that his main goal all along was essentially buying himself some time. And that moment in manhwa changed my entire outlook on life, i have really changed my entire lifestyle, now my main goal is to buy time. A useful mindset, i would say. Essentially this whole life is just about buying time. There is nowhere to go and ultimately you will die anyway, so... And the best moment of the entire episode: YURI KISS Im sure it was a kiss, even though it wasnt shown Shiori herself said at the end that she "stole a young maidens kiss π₯°" She kissed Hinako and even bit her It was really cute. I love yuri. But they left fox in the background lol And she didnt even get her first kiss with Hinako because evil mermaid stole it. Poor fox πππ But im sure she will have many more yuri moments with Hinako in the future Overall i think Shiori and Miko truly love Hinako I understand Hinako perfectly well and this is her life, and its up to her to decide what to do with it, and i understand that this life is truly unbearable But i want to believe that she can still find life meaning in her two girlfriends So, this is one of the best animes of the year, or even of all time? Im really glad that this anime goes in the background while everyone else watches completely plastic shonen stuff and all that. This anime is like a closed club and thats a really good thing.

Same promise, but coming from a very different place. For Shiori anyway. It felt like Shiori was prepared to die herself when she made that contract, and it's sad that that's what it takes to bring someone back from the brink. It's moving at a glacial pace, but I also like how they're taking as much time as needed to really let the moments stew and simmer. But it's obvious that we won't be reaching a conclusion by next episode, and I'm not so sure this is getting a 2nd season. I really want to see where they take this, but it's a shame.

Hinako's first words to Shiori sure was sad and reflected well how badly their bond had deteriorated. So thats why Hinako never remembered that meeting between them. The thought of seeing a mini Kitsune be angry was actually quite amusing. While effectively a delaying tactic at the very least Shiori was able to stop Hinako's downward spiral. Curious to see how this ends next ep.

Shiori is a good psychiatrist, she has prevented Hinako from dying, with another promise. It takes a lot of genius to convince a suicidal person not to do suicide, and the mermaid was able to do a temporary solution. would be better if Shiori also start to live in the house. Having company would help remove stress for Hinako. and I like that Shiori still keep the seashell Hinako gave her years ago. It seems she turned it to hairclips with mermaid magic. I did not read the manga, just a hunch. sad, it's just one episode left.

Damn, Hinako really is a mess /sigh. I think that Shiori did the best she could and thinking it over it was probably the best outcome, with her promising to eat her when she's happy again. Of course that means (IMO) that it won't happen until Hinako is old, plus if/when Hinako smiles like she did when she was a little girl I imagine that she would not want to die at that point. Also, I think that at the end Miko understood what happened and even realized that Shiori is the one hurting but at the end this is for Hinako's sake.

| I have to ask, did the studio kiss the brick before throwing it straight at our faces? The first part of the episode, especially the memory sequence, was incredibly emotional. I’ll always be the person who says it hit harder in the manga, but honestly, the studio did an amazing job bringing this episode to life. Unfortunately, there’s only one episode left, and that sad. | I think that this will lead to a very interesting dilemma. If Shiori actually does plan to fulfill her promise and kill Hinako when she has become happy, that would be when Hinako no longer wants to die. I wonder if this is what Shiori is thinking as well. |

Shiori was willing to lie once more and make a fake promise and do the painful thing that she hates to death, if she can see Hinako alive even one more day and to see that kid with a happy smiling face someday even if it's just only once.. ππ So I guess we can consider that as a kiss, I guess and a wild one at that. The song that was playing in the background during that beach scene was so beautiful. So much for Miko's advice to Shiori to talk it out with Hinako only to end up right where they started.

Love it. Love this show! How does the promise work though? Shiori didn't seem to lie saying this time her promise is serious because of the blood pact. BUT, as Miko later questioned it, it seems Shiori will be the one to decide whether "conditions" are met to fulfill her part? In other words, there's really no "3rd party" monitoring the deal and Shiori alone must decide if Hinako is genuinely happy or not? In other words, even if Hinako is happy, Shiori can just say "nope, IMO she's not happy enough" and nothing will happen? I can see several possible outcomes in the future: - Hinako may say she no longer wants Shiori to eat her and the deal is immediately void - The end lol? Meaning, Hinako can cancel the deal at any time and Shiori doesn't need to eat her. May sounds stupid, but who the F knows how contracts with Yokai work? - Shiori will NOT do her part. She won't kill Hinako when Hinako eventually becomes truly happy again. I just can't imagine this story end so tragically. Something big must happen for Hinako to become that happy; this will likely involve her falling in love with someone IMO. I can't imagine the story showing us happy Hinako and then Shiori gutting her like a fish with 0 emotions... It's more likely Shiori will refuse to honor the deal intentionally and (unless she lied yet again about seriousness of the pact), the blood pact violation will result in Shiori's death. We've seen this in other stories. Shiori's been alive for centuries if not millennia. It's entirely possible she'd sacrifice herself rather than live potentially forever, always remembering how she killed Hinako after saving her. Again, I just don't see such dark end for this story. - Shiori has to kill Hinako, but will allow Miko to kill her before she does the deed. After all, it's already obvious Miko won't just stand idle and let Shiori eat Hinako; especially at a time when Hinako is finally happy. Miko will inevitably intervene. If Shiori kills Hinako, Miko will go berserk and they'll have a fight to the death for sure. Another end is Hinako dying of old age because she never found happiness and thus Shiori did not ever need to eat her. Which would be very sad, but I don't think the show will take this route either. Anyways, I'm liking Shiori more than ever. Hinako was like 99% positive she wanted to die, but Shiori did the maximum and that 1% chance won.

I think the trick with the new deal is that Shiori will help Hinako find true happiness by staying by her side. She will always be not quite happy enough to eat her, until she's old and just about to die of natural causes, then Shiori will say "now you've achieved the happiness of a life fulfilled" and then eat her at that point. And promptly die herself of poisoning due to the shared blood. |

Miko said it's up to Shiori to eat her when the time comes but she doesn't know that they both made a pact, I wonder if Shiori really has a choice to eat her or not, if Shiori really does eat her it will become a lose lose situation because Hinako wouldn't want to die anymore if she finally find hope and Shiori not only don't want her to die she'd has to eat a vile meal, so I think the only plausible ending is Shiori dies for breaking the pact.

@Sigmar-Unberogen My storytelling brain tells me that Shiori will intentionally refuse to honor the contract and suffer the consequences, which is probably death, effectively giving her life for Hinako. She will stay by Hinako's side until Hinako finds some measure of happiness and strength to carry on on her own, even through Shiori's death. A monster learns to care about a person to the point of giving up its own life. A human who wants to give up her own life learns to care about herself and live on. It's tragic, but kind of beautiful. I wouldn't call it a "dark end." I'd also accept the "old age" ending, where Shiori postpones the contract, claiming that Hinako will find even more happiness in her remaining lifespan. After Hinako has lived a full life, Shiori can grant her a peaceful death. It's a little corny to me, but it'll depend on the execution. I'd actually be annoyed if the show does a random ass-pull and overrides/nullifies the contract somehow, which would cheapen Shiori's promise and the emotional impact of the story.

| This show has kept getting better but man this was truly a masterpiece episode. I really liked every bit about Shiori mad Hinako back and forth. Reminds me of Monogatari, and the bgm and art style. Perfection. "If it's a pain Hinako gave me I have to take care of it"π₯² I feel so bad for Shiori. She trying her level best just to make the only person she cares about not kill herself but she still can't. The frustration in that conversation was clear and ultimately she just used her only way to just delay the thing. Although clearly it really hurting her. My poor fish girl.. But can't blame Hinako either. From her pov Shiori does come of selfish. Idk how or if she can ever change her mindset. Poor Miko stuck between two ruined people lol. I understand Miko is upset that Shiori decided to renew her promise with Hinako, and I agree it isn't what shoulda happened but Shiori has a point, what else what she going to do? | Unfortunate that Shiori had to resort to promising to eat Hinako for a second time to keep her from ending it all, making her remember their meeting when she was a kid was not enough, but like I’m seeing it being said by other folks, I doubt Shiori will be eating Hinako this time either. I don’t know how exactly Shiori will keep it from happening but it could happen several different ways, there are some interesting theories I’m reading in this thread too, but no matter how things turn out, the important thing for now is that Shiori bought some time with Hinako. And oh yeah, the “kiss” sure was something lol, I thought Shiori just nibbled on Hinako there at first but no I guess it was a bit of a kiss at the same time, I’m not sure if I’d call what the two of them have “romantic” but it was a great way to cap off that beach scene regardless. And of course Miko caught wind of what happened and she was not happy lol, but it quickly got serious again when Miko pointed out that Shiori is the one hurting, I don’t doubt it one bit, but again, her eating Hinako is a bridge they’ll cross when they get there. And there’s just one more episode of this one, which will be on Christmas for me, guess I get some spooky yuri to go with my holiday celebration lol, but really tho I will miss this one when it’s over. |

THIS IS SO MESSED UP I LOVE IT– Seriously, I don't even know how you could even get through Hinako at this point, her reasons are very valid. Really sad that Shiori had to make that promise (again but for real this time). Maybe along the way Hinako can truly find happiness that isn't for the sake of her death and maybe that will be the happy ending, or Shiori waits it out until Hinako meets old age, but still again– this relationship is pretty messed up. Miko can see through Shiori's pain, but the way Shiori takes that as something like a gift from Hinako is amazing /cries The way the rain is masking Shiori's tears... Shiori - 1 Miko - 0

You have to feel bad for Shiori in this episode but she is basically the architect of her own pain. She wanted to see Hinako happy again and took the shortest possible route to get there. If she'd taken her time with Hinako like Miko has been doing, she probably would have eventually seen results but she wanted Hinako to be happy now and so came up with the whole "I'll eat you" lie. Now it's all blown up in her face and the chances of recovery look bleak.

Did I Just Sign Myself Up For A Sad Animanga Ending?! And A Depressing Journey(At Least For Shiori)?! Cause I Can't Really See Another Ourcome For That Pact/Promise, I Know Like She Can Do It When Hinako's Old But...It's Not A Better Outcome I Was Really Hoping For Hinako To Turn It Down With A Sweetener, Like "I'll Try Not To Kill Myself For A While And See How It Is...For You" But She Accepted...Perhaps Unwillingly Poor Shiori...These Past Few Episodes Really Made Me Feel Sad For Her, And Apparently...More Sadness To Come

I liked some things about this anime. The Opening is good, the soundtrack is good and the direction is good too. But hey, in the first episode, Hinako wanted to die and Shiori promised to eat her. Now, in the 12th episode, Hinako wants to die and Shiori promised to eat her again (already lied once). I feel like there is no real progression here. I wouldn't complain about the fact that the "girls love" is completely missing except for the kiss, but Hinako should have improved a little bit. Shiori is a cruel yokai that is trying to do something good, but is still failing and being toxic. Miko is doing everything she can to help Hinako, but she can't get the same value nor the same results to prevent Hinako's death than Shiori. Sad conclusion until now

@Wrathberry84 No problem with yuri, but even with all that background, I would find it a bit strange if Shiori were romantically interested in Hinako, who can no longer even love herself. Hinako is so broken that she ended up attracting the empathy of two yokai monsters; they are the only family she has left. π₯
