Mangaka Hawkman's lone series...is quite the horror that you can't see cats the same way ever again.

THE YELLOW MONKEY's OP is quite the ominous, but bopping beat goodness!

The world dominated by cats in an alternate timeline, it's quite the nyanpandemic in which a virus turns anyone who touches a cat into a cat.

The human warriors of Masaki and Kaoru try their best to stay alive and pamper the cats while they can, but when someone eats cat food enough to turn into a cat, thus affecting lots of people, and Masaki and the cat cafe too while at it. Time to avoid the nyan-apocalypse!

WANIMA's rockhard ED is quite the showcase alright.

Such a wacky start. As a huge cat lover, this is definitely a must watch.

This was everything that I expected it to be and was not disappointed at all. Perfectly walks the line between seriously and overly-serious to the point of being hilarious.
Should be a great watch every week.

I watched the horror classic only last year and now we got the cat version of it. That's such a cute way to turn :3 I would rather get licked by a bunch of of 🐱 than get bitten.

Love the premise to death and the opening is gold. This is fr the cutest horror of I've seen. Gremlins ain't got nothing.

I hope it stays as engagingly hilarious all the way. The little gags inbetween had me seriously loling, too. Like the No Cat No Life" billboard and they gave cat safety check a whole new meaning.

The beautiful visuals, the horror tropes and parodies, the gusto with which the VAs are playing, all the cat puns and cat facts,...this show is great.
And yeah, metal is rarely used as BGM in anime, here it fits the tone.

This premise is hilariously awesome.

For an OVA.

I'm gonna take the laughs from the first episode and dip out before the gag gets old and sour.

@phantomfandom 1968 or 1990? Both the original and the remake are worthy. Skip the 2006, 2014, and 2021 remakes; they're ass.

Never seen such a spin on zombie apocalypse lmao.

I am actually interested in the story on a deeper level, so we have Kunagi, no memories, random cat bell, injured by something. I think he is probably the cat called Origin who turned into a human or a scientist who worked with it. Nonetheless, he must be key in turning back the population to normal, if that is the end game.

As a cat-lover, I was hoping this would be a fun and cute light-hearted comedy-horror show. Instead I got half an episode that was so dark that it looked like a bunch of floating humans in a black void with no background art, even with my brightness turned up to double what it normally is. This would put the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie to shame. It's almost literally unwatchable. (If I was watching this on a TV where changing the brightness frequently was even slightly more inconvenient than on my laptop, I wouldn't even have finished this episode.)

I did enjoy the second half of the episode, though. I may still give this show the three episode test, rather than dropping it now like I'm inclined to do. Seriously, why do anime studios (and video game studios, for that matter), like to make it so dark that you just can't see anything???

Any other season this would be a no brainer watch, but already starting to feel the weight of this season. Love the concept and comedy but as others state it's going to be interesting to see if / how they manage to keep the show feeling fresh after 3-4 episodes.

The first episode already showed two major problem with the series:

- cop out transition into cat
- lack of creative absurdity to the point of being boring

This could be a good flick if they don't shy away from showing some uncanny absurdity as how a human transform into a cat without fading effects. If anyone familiar with An American Werewolf in London (1981), those know the movie is just merely fine and the only scene that shines like gold is the slow-mo transformation of the protagonist into a werewolf. This could have been done here too, or at least throw some solution from The Thing (1982) or The Fly (1986). Heck, even some zombie flicks got time for show the demise of a single human being. The transformation is just too quick with no impact, yet with creativity it can be even more absurd and shocking while laughable how other characters are reacting to it.

The other is how boring it is. Okay, only one ep deep in so far, yet shown all the cliché you can get from a zombie-flick buffet with no spin on it or adapting towards the show's content.

So... could be A LOT better.

The gags were mildly funny, if a little predictable and labored. Like the last scene with the infected guy feeling the urge to swat at the bell.

Not a fan of 3D CG cats and how they're drawn somewhat realistically. The zombie transformation was lame.

I wasn't expecting some kind of lore or mystery behind the apocalypse, but looks like we might be getting some? That might be what gets me to keep watching for a few more episodes. I get the feeling that the guy with the memory loss used to be a cat before.

@WestOnAndrewAve idk it kinda throws me too, but also kinda makes sense? like, going by the first episode, there aren't outright comedic moments... it seems to be the kind of comedy that comes from playing an absurdist premise straight and seriously... Like, because the characters, mood music, etc takes the Nyandemic so seriously, it becomes funny to the audience. But then I'm not sure a genre like that constitutes it being called a comedy/parody? I feel like a mod would need to come in with solid guideline explanations to delve into that further tbh

It was like earlier this last year, I was showing my dad Mieruko-chan... where the art for the ghosts are really well done in the horror department, but the comedy comes from the situation of MC not being able to actively react to the ghosts around her, creating scenes that in-universe are suspensful but hit the right kind of dumbfounded-freeze-frame kind of scenes that I'm fairly certain are intended to be comedic, in a very dry comedy kind of way. My dad, however, when trying it, really just saw it as an interesting horror series. Overall, it seems like a hard line to play with, and largely subjective outside of whatever artist intention might be.

Personally, while obviously intending "Nyaight of the Living Cat" to be absurd, and some scenes overwhelmingly cute and cheesy, it's honestly proved to me that I will feel some level of anxiety so long as each horror point is hit right, and I'm left a lil disappointed in myself for that...

Also, I'm with other people here where this concept really seems like something best suited for an OVA, or a movie maybe. A TV series? Even for a smaller 12-episode season, I agree that I can see the gag stretched very thin. That being said, a 12-episode season is also short enough for me to want to stick it out, most likely. Plus, the source material appears to still be publishing, so apparently there must be some overarching plot in mind?! Not that I know what that could be, to keep us engaged for however long that will end up being.

Also: @popa910 not sure what tech issue this is? I watched this on Crunchyroll on TV through a Roku, and don't think I had any lighting issues. Might be your set-up, unless more people can confirm

@MomoSinX Someone that's immune to the virus seems like a factor as well, but yeah, him being amnesiac and having the cat bell suggests he's definitely involved, if not patient zero. Or somehow developed immunity while involved in the experiments and is unaware, especially if he took a blow that wiped his memory retroactively

@GureJoestar I'm leaning a bit more to the idea that he was the Origin in some way or otherwise somehow has some special traits due to being involved in the experiment. Him being able to just lift that one burly guy so easily makes me almost think it'd be like if a cat's traits were translated to a human form, ala Terra Formars in a way, meaning he'd probably have greater strength than a human. But that's also a long shot

Perfect timing that I put this on Tuesdays when I usually volunteer at my local animal shelter to socialize the various cats we have. @MoonSpider It started publishing in 2020, I feel like it's monthly, though looking at the volumes available, the chapters vary wildly in length. Volume 2 is literally just 4 chapters and 2 of them are extras.

Comic Garden is the publication, though I feel like it's probably more indie to a degree, in spite of having a former editor from Enix's manga division and being a subsidiary of Production I.G. There are several anime produced based on manga in the magazine, like Shimoneta, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, Psycho Pass, Rolling Girls, even Donten Ni Warau evidently.
