With Sengoku's story in Nadeko Draw/Nademonogatari finished, it's onto the next story in the Off Season, that being Shinbou's story in Acerola Bon Appétit/Wazamonogatari.

Shinbou’s backstory's always been hinted at. Like in Kizu where we learn she was once human, and the second season of Owari that shows her first servant. But the question always still was up in the air about how did this lovable, blond loli become a vampire? Details up till now were only hinted at through rewatches and Japanese text, leaving you to piece together your own theory. That was, until now where we finally get Shinbou's backstory... AGAIN. A mini-Kizumonogatari, I would say. Pretty fitting as well, considering their rereleasing the Kizu movies in cinemas again or something.

The story starts with a fairy tale about a beautiful princess. Everyone who saw her fell in love and gave her everything they could. It got so overwhelming that she wanted to show her inner beauty instead. A witch cast a spell to make her inner beauty shine even more, but it was so powerful that people started killing themselves, feeling unworthy to be near her. The entire country was destroyed because she was too beautiful.

Goodness. Shaft knocked it out of the planet this time. Best episode of the season so far. PEAK CINEMA.

This new character is certainly messed up with her ideas and ideology making me wonder how things will unfold.
Acerola seems more normal but she seems to have some strange quirks as well.
Well for nor it will be interesting to see how things unfold.

Was worried about how Shaft would adapt the more "verbose" stories of Off and Monster seasons, but they managed to give Wazamonogatari a unique feel by heavily focusing on the medieval-esque aesthetic and... this looks good af!!!! Many scenes look like actual paintings and give an eery sort of feeling. Can't wait for the rest!!

I'm speechless. The visual style and soundtrack used here were an excellent fit. The flow of the episode was a step above the rest of this season so far, gonna have to dig through the staff credits to see if anyone specific is to thank for that.

Suicide-Master certainly has a way with naming people, which made the end credits funny, despite listing "Acerola-hime" for our girl. Super excited to see where this arc goes.

How I missed Shaft at it's peak. Liked their recent works but Shaft working on Monogatari is at their best and this being a very good example of that.

Anything related to Kiss-shot is always bound to be great. Loved every moment of the episode. So this is what they meant by beauty is sin. Also lol at the chuuni vampire girl and she's also the one who named Acerola huh.

Really liked this episode. A+ all around; excellent art work, wonderful animation, splendid characters, top notch VA work. The producers poured it on. But I still think that ep 6.5 nonsense would have been better incorporated as backstory into the main arc.

Seeing what happened this episode, if anyone skipped Episode 6.5, it would be best to watch that to get context on the Beautiful Princess fairy tale.

This was more of a unique setting and story being told, as the first arc of Wazamonogatari is underway, with Acerola Bon Appétit. Essentially, this is Shinobu's backstory from when she was still human. We've gotten some tidbits of her past when Gaen explained some of her stories to us, but now, we get even more context of what kind of painful past she had. It is quite a tragic tale, with the beautiful princess bewitching everyone around her with her beauty, to the point where the citizens around her committed suicide because they could never match up to her, until the whole country or city was in ruins. We also got introduced to Deathtopia Virtuoso Suicide-Master, whose ideologies were very interesting.

Visually, this was such a treat to watch with the immaculate art. Studio Shaft is doing an excellent job, perhaps already exceeding what they've achieved in prior seasons with how great this season has looked so far. I'm greatly looking forward to what they cook up next.

I definitely didn't hate Nadeko's arc as much as most people did and the finale was such a good conclusion to her events.

But I was truly not ready for this episode since I fully expected Kanbaru to be next. Our Queen Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-under-blade with her origin story just peaked the show once more with Kizu-like Shaft animation and artstyle.

It was like we were back to Kizumonogatari but even better since we are exploring the past of the invincible and too beautiful for her own good human princess Acerola~

This is great stuff. I'm getting a lot more out of this chapter alone than all the previous arc together.

Isn't Monogatari such a weird series? The last episode was about a middle schooler chasing after her clones and taking another step of life. Now we are in the medieval witnessing the beautiful princess who can ruin nations by just existing and a vampire with a weird naming sense

The namings sound so chuuni and the logic of the character sounds kind of dumb, but it is not played for comedy. I don't know what to think for now, I'll see how the arc plays out.

Everytime the show is about Shinobu, they go WILD, and I love it, she deserved it all. Thank God Nisioisin created this character and paired up with Araragi, my favorite duo of all fiction.

Finally, the beginning of Shinobu's origin story. Chronologically I think this might be the first series in the Monogatari series, taking place hundreds of years before Kizumonogatari. I feel as if I should've rewatched Kizumonogatari now. I might do that after finishing this part. I kinda miss Kizumonogatari's artstyle here. I think it would've looked incredible if they did that but it might've been too expensive or something. However, the artstyle the show does have is still incredible and it's some of the most gorgeous animation I've ever seen.

One sad thing is that there might not be any OP for this arc. Or at least not an OP with a character song. Since Shinobu's VA Maaya Sakamoto doesn't believe in character songs or some nonsense like that. It's why none of Shinobu's arcs had character songs in their OPs. So, they'll probably do another OP with instrumentals. Unless they have Suicide-Master's VA sing the OP which I highly doubt will happen.

By the way, why doesn't MAL show Suicide-Master's voice actress? Was the cast not announced before? She's voiced by 61-year-old Rica Fukami. Her voice was certainly unique but I wasn't expecting her to be this old.

The ED is surprisingly still Undead by YOASOBI. I do hope they're going to change the visual in the next episode tho.

Deathtopia Virtuoso Suicide-Master is certainly a name. I have to wonder how the hell the author comes up with names like these.

Shinobu- I mean Princess Acerola looks gorgeous. I did not know she had heterochromia. I guess she got blonde eyes after she became a vampire. I do wonder how she became a vampire. This arc will answer that. Can't wait to find out.

This is... interesting.

Princess Acerola started out a fairly tepid, calm character, and we've now met the character that she seems to have borrowed some traits from to become the impish, snarky, adorable troll we all know and love. Deathtopia really feels like a proto-Shinobu with the way she acts and her expressions.

I'm glad that I went and checked episode 6.5 just before watching this episode, as it gave me a better insight into the story of Princess Acerola and how she ended up where she is now, where everyone throws away their lives as they can't match the beauty that she has.

This is where she meets the amusingly named Deathtopia Vituoso Suicide Master. Both of their chemistry was very intriguing and was really well done. Not only that, but it felt like I was watching Kizumonogatari again, as the visual quality of the characters and the background quality, both 2D and 3D, felt very similar to that movie trilogy. It looked amazing, in all honesty. =)

Overall, this was a very satisfying episode delving into Shinobu's past, where we get to see the first set of pieces showing how she became the way she is in the present day.

A delightfully unexpected prequel to Shinobu's story. Never even thought about who turned her into a vampire. Can see where she even got that laugh from. And her mindset even has a connection to how she dealt with Koyomi in Kizumonogatari.

A bit on the nose for her to name herself suicide master.

Looking forward to seeing how this plays out and what happens to these two vampires.

While I don’t agree with some others here in putting down Nadeko’s arc we just came off of in favor of this one, this was a great start to this new Shinobu arc that takes place way long before she became Shinobu, heck before anything else in the series even lol, it’s very cool. And that half length 6.5 episode helped a bit with understanding what’s going on here with Princess Acerola, even if it wasn’t really needed since they touched on her story in this one, and looks like that didn’t just happen to her original kingdom, she’s been wondering around causing others to fall, very fucked up but I guess I kinda get her reasoning for doing so, she wants to make it to where this will never happen again instead of simply ending it just for things to repeat again with someone else, and I’m guessing with Suicide-Master she will somehow do that and become the Shinobu we know today.

And speaking of Suicide-Master, I guess we know why Shinobu has that absolute mouthful of a name as a vampire now lol, not only does Suicide-Master have a wild name, but so does her minion Tropicalesque. And I guess that whole curse thing works on vampires as well, to the point she’s automatically killing herself without realizing in the moment, it’s kinda funny really paired with her reactions, but now I’m really curious as to how she will end up turning Acerola into a vampire, and I’m also wondering if Suicide-Master and her minion will survive this arc since there’s nothing about them in the rest of the series, I’m definitely excited to see the rest of this arc tho.

And it looks like they are using the next part of the YOASOBI ED like they did in 6.5, nice, and I’m interested in seeing if they do another epic Shinobu OP like they have for her previous arcs, of course I’d prefer a character song but I ain’t holding out hope for that lol, the way they’ve done her OPs all this time is very cool anyway so it would be nice if they do it again.

I like Deathopia. She has a cool name and gives others cool names.

Her personality, specifically arrogance, seems to be something Shinobu took after in her Kiss-Shot times.

The macabre scenery of this ruined country was very appealing. In general, Monogatari scenery is beautiful.

Really excited for this upcoming arc, Shinobu is probably my favourite character of all time with her performance in previous seasons, and although they've occasionally sprinkled parts of her backstory throughout the series, being able to see the full picture now is something i've been dying to see for quite a while.

6.5 mini episode honestly felt like a really nice explanation and introduction for the arc. The very tragic story of the Princess of Beauty Acerola, and in her attempt to show the world her soul, placed a curse herself turning her into a walking catastrophe, was an cinema. Honestly don't think i could've asked for a more compelling backstory, or start of a backstory, than this one for Shinobu, instantly hooked on the premise and execution and desperately need more.

Interesting to see how, despite the curse, Princess Acerola refuses to end it all and thought more about a situation where if the same think were to happen to someone else, if there could be an alternative answer instead of having to just end it all.
Also interesting to see how she has a goal of "wandering journey in search for a soul to save", after hearing this line i couldn't help but think back to Kizu and Kiss-Shots mindset in those movies and the similarities and differences.

I think what's got me curious the most rn in this arc is what the transition was like for Princess Acerola to turn into the infamous Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade. I'm curious if her change of attitude or personality from the Princess to the Vampire was instantaneous, or more to do with the many centuries of being alive gradually changing her. I also found how some aspects of Kiss-Shot could be seen in Deathtopia, her iconic laugh, or her superior attitude were quite interesting to pick up on.

Deathtopia Virtuoso Suicide-Master's introduction was really impressive. I think the majority of the Vampires that have appeared in the series have all made some great long lasting impressions and staples in the show, but by God do i feel like Deathtopia's was truly something. The raw aura in her title alone combined with her superiority is insane.

Man i really do love how the majority of the Vampires in this series also have the most outlandish but badass titles ever, like they're crazier but not over the top crazy where they start sounding overly silly. Honestly how the fuck do you create badass titles such as "Deathtopia Virtuoso Suicide-Master" or the one that stunned me the most, "Tropicalesque Home-A-Wave Dog-Strings" without them starting to sound kinda silly.
I guess a merit on top of all the other merits of becoming a vampire is also being handed the pass to be able to string together the words you think sound the coolest as your new title.

Holy fuck, that was movie quality, I mean not quite like the levels of Kizu, but still really good.

I've only heard of her name before and that she had something to do with Shinobu's past, but now we're actually meeting Deathopia Virtuoso Suicide-Master, I can't believe it, I assume she's going to be the one that turns Shinobu into a vampire, though the question is how.

But, we didn't just met 1 new vampire this episode, we met 2, Tropicalesque Home-A-Wave Dog-Strings... lmao. That name makes Deathopia Virtuoso Suicide-Master seems so much more Godly in comparison.

Goddamn, so Acerola just kept travelling destroying nations in her wake in search for that person to save. I honestly don't know where this partnership will go, I mean obviously to vampirism, but before that, I don't know, there's definitely gonna be more attempts to eat Acerola that's for sure.
