Naruto will always be something special for me. It was there for me when I experienced one of the most traumatic things in my life... even though I really hated what Kishimoto did to the last arc of the series.

So what anime series that will always be special for you?

Ano Hana. I lost a friend at a young age so I could relate. The cast's emotions were spot-on (and tbh it pisses me off when people say they were whiny or melodramatic; nah, that's accurate, trust me).. my entire group of friends split after our buddy died.. it was one of the roughest things I went through in my teen years. Looking back at the anime, I don't really consider it a favorite, as there were too many plot holes and inconsistencies that I ultimately found to be distracting, taking away from what the series could've been. I will say it has a special place in my heart though, just because of what it made me feel when I first saw it and how those emotions came flooding back.

I would like to say anime i grew up with as a kid and at the time didn't know that they were anime, but because they weren't enough to get me into other anime i won't say any of them. So i'll go with Fairy Tail which is what actually brought me into the medium as a whole instead of just one offs some years ago, my passion for it has definitely been dying but it will always hold a special place.

TV anime's that I watched with my friends on afternoons when I was a kid after I went home from school.

Most of these are classic shounen's and just hearing their soundtracks gives me so much memories.

Madoka Magica, including Rebellion. It is probably the only anime that deeply affected my life and made me extremelly passionate both to the anime medium and getting to know other anime watchers and even to hang out with many.

Also, it left me with lasting feelings that shook me and very few anime troubled me as far as psychological and moral matters are concerned.

The animes of my childhood. I remember waking up early just to see Sailor Moon on TV and counting the hours to Digimon. Fushigi Yuugi, Saint Tail, Fancy Lala, Cardcaptor Sakura and Ashita no Nadja as well.

Same with Naruto as it was my first and it will always mean a lot to me, even some fillers.
Also, Elfen Lied no matter how bad the anime is bc I was an edgy 12 year old when I watched and it really stuck with me.
Oh and Kimi to boku, 2nd season especially and I don't even know why it just always fixed my mood

There are countless ones from every stage of my life but I guess for this thread I'll go way back to my early childhood and mention all those series I saw on german TV. Stuff like Heidi, Maya the Bee, Nils Holgersson, Calimero, Alfred E Kwak, Vickie and so on.
I probably regret this post by now.

Detective Conan

It used to be broadcast in my country when I was a kid but soon went off air due to lack of popularity. Years later, when I was feeling nostalgic one day, I searched it up on Google and watched a few of its initial episodes on YouTube. I was surprised to know that it's still going on. And then, I decided to catch up with the story.

After I was done, I came across a list of must-watch-anime on 9gag (as I mentioned on another thread) and considering how much I had enjoyed watch Detective Conan, I decided to watch anime on a regular basis.

So basically, this show was one of the factors that made me enter the anime world.

Gungrave was the only time in my life that I actually cried while watching something. I was an emotional wreck after it and it’ll always carry a special place in my heart.

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU also impacted me massively. Other than the well executed plot and fantastic characters, the biggest reason is that I really relate to Hachiman. I was like him at one point in my life. So, I really felt the show understood me in a way which really made me feel attached to it I guess.

Pokemon is another one... I pretty much spent a large amount of my childhood watching it, and I still watch it to this day lol.

Death note is my favorite anime of all time... So it’s only natural that I would cherish it this much. It was the first anime that ever made me addicted. I couldn’t stop watching it.

Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh as a kid, cause of nostalgia and they take me back to a more innocent time.

Bleach was the first anime I watched when I understood what anime were. I was 18 and I was searching about anime in general and it caught my eye. It put me into the anime fandom.

FMAB and Code Geass for the simple reason that gave me many valuable lessons.

Nagi no Asukara. I watched it at a difficult period of my life and it made me think that changes are not a bad thing.

Definitely Naruto and recently another anime that's gonna have a special place in my hearts is A Place further than the Universe.

That anime just....gave me a very nostalgic feeling of wanting to go for an adventure and seeing the world.

Probably death note. I know that sounds funny but, I will always be close to my heart. Death note was my second anime I stared watching. (The first being fairy tail) I was scared of trying new things. So I took a chance, and loved every minute of it.
Even if I don’t bother rewatching it, it was the first anime that made me want to watch more. And I’ll never forget it.

I think Papakiki has a special place in my heart.
I didn't even gave it a 10, but If I was as young as one of the girls and lost my parents in an accident... I wouldn't know what to do with myself especially when I think that I almost lost both of my parents when I was 12 and not having any relatives really...
Kind of dark but even thinking about it... brr...

There's a couple that usually come to mind with this question but if I had to give it one in specific, it would Steins;Gate

Something about the concept of time travel and multiple space dimensions and timelines always appeals to me and this show became a good reference to go off those theories. The whole world aspect and each individual character made the show one of my favs for sure.

Haha yeah. It's been 12 years since that incident now, and even though I don't really see any of that group of friends much anymore, we're all back on good terms (three of us four, at least), and we'll hang out whenever we're in town together. It was rough back then, but we've moved on :)

Yu Yu Hakusho, one of my all time favorites, made me cry multiple times the first watch and the dub is outstanding despite some weird changes. Later on, I almost grew out of anime until I discovered attack on titan, which rekindled that flame of searching for more anime, so these two series I hold very dear to my heart, and I WILL be devastated when the attack on titan manga wraps up the final arc its in and the series ends. I've been following it ever since late 2013. So naturally I hold its story, characters, and subtle hint drops to future arcs in previous ones in high value to my heart.

Honorable mention to Pokemon too, because it was my childhood and I still absolutely love the series. Though I'm mostly into the games, haven't watched the anime in a long time

Same situation with OP about Naruto. I became a Naruto hater because of the last arc and fillers but I can't deny that it's all where I started to become the me now.

Digimon and The Law of Ueki for childhood memories.

TWGOK and Sora no Otoshimono for breaking me out from the shell known as "Shounen action is the only good anime genre."

All shows in my favorite list.

Ikkitousen paved the way to ecchi anime for me. I am very thankful I watched it. And also, Sailor Moon, I used to watch it in the 90s with my sister and her friends, those were fun times, they sometimes dressed me as a girl because I was little and the only boy there.

If I have to name some...

Angel Beats. One of the first anime I ever saw and it will always have a special place in my heart.

Code Geass. Same as Angel Beats. I will always remember how I just stayed there, completely stunned, as the final episode played and everything made sense.

Fate/Zero. I took my sweet time to watch it, tried it two-three times and giving up at the beginning, before finally watching it whole and propping it up to my absolute favourite anime period. (RIP ufotable btw)

FMAB. Nothing much to say. That was my very first manga and the anime adaptation did a mad job into crafting this masterpiece.

No second thoughts with this question. Naruto for me too, very easily. It wasn't my first anime, but definitely one that got me truly invested in the media. It took me about a year to get through all of it (naruto and shippuden), and that span alone is enough to make me love the series. Naruto, admittedly, is not the best thing out there (even I have grown out of it), but it's surely something I'll always treasure. Plus, it's one of the few shows I can discuss with anyone, even irl. Naruto is love :)
