My Dad knows I love anime, and I think it's really cool that he both supports it and watches it with me. Today he came to my house and we watched four anime: Wolf Children, Princess Kaguya, Paprika and End of Evangelion (I had to explain a lot lol). He loved them all and said that he thinks he needs to watch End of Evangelion again at some point and even check out the series. I do have to be careful what I show him though as he was traumatized when I showed him a clip of Fate Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works where the little gir,l Illya gets killed. Even though End of Evangelion is pretty graphic, I told him he still had to see it just for the philosophy and deep thought behind it. That was an exception to the rules. Have you ever sat down with your Mom or Dad and watched an anime together? Do you like sharing your passion of anime with your parents? I'm really happy I can share this experience with my Dad, it fills me with joy. My mom on the other hand (though I love her)....probably not. |

Dat UBW spoiler tho... EDIT: oh, it's fixed. Nope, they don't share my 'passion' for anime unfortunately, my mom doesn't know any english which makes it harder for me to show her a show, while my dad just considers anime, cartoon for kids. |

I wish my parents liked me even liking anime. My mom once walked in on me watching Chobits when I was younger and that was an adventure. She also blames anime for my lack of religious belief because Shaman King is one of my favorite mangas. She hates conventions and thinks anime is a waste of time AND WHILE IT IS, I love it. Dad doesn't care. If it makes me happy, he doesn't mind. I envy people whose parents like/watch anime with them. It's a big part of my life they'll never really get. |

Considering that my parents have never expressed an interest in what shows i watch (except some western tv series that i torrent for them) i dont actively try to lure them to the anime side:). They are also considering anime equivalent to carttons, thus suitable for kids younger thatn 12 and mock me for watching anime. On another note the only things that i watch with my parents are hollywood movies etc and GoT, so im not the most suitable to speak:P |

Hmm. My mom's seen quite a few anime with me. Around 15 or 20, I'd guess. My dad on the other hand, doesn't really get it. He saw a few episodes of haikyuu since we were watching it in the living room, liked the matches but didn't really get the point of the flashbacks. Still seems like he could get to liking anime if I showed him the right ones. Watching anime with parents is nice though. I don't get judged for buying manga or figurines since they know it's a good thing. |

Never in a million years would I have thought this would happen but I managed to get my Mother - who dislikes animation in general - to watch, Death Note. I thought since she really loves Breaking Bad she might like it. Though I didn't think she'd actually watch it. To my surprise she is, and loving the hell out of it. I think I'll seal the deal with Spirited Away next. Mawhaha.... We have converted another one to the dark side- Oh! I mean Anime side! ;D |

They can watch a Pixar movie and then a Mamoru Hosoda film, or an episode of My Little Pony and then Sketchbook: Full Color's with my nephews, animation it's animation no matter the country of origin. |

In doing so, I've run into two problems: 1) Finding an anime free of most of the typical anime tropes (I enjoy them, but I think he'd find them annoying.) 2) Maintaining his attention. I've found a grand total of two anime that I think he might enjoy: Steins;Gate and Death Note. I tried showing him Steins;Gate with... unfavorable results (he fell asleep in the middle of the second episode.) On the other hand, I really don't want to rewatch Death Note, as I flippin' despise Light Yagami. My mom, on the other hand, absolutely hates the visual style of anime (weirdly enough, she loves Disney and Pixar.) Attempting to get her to watch anime would be an exercise in futility. |
Important Note: I no longer - in any way, shape, or form - consider myself a moral nihilist (even in my old, convoluted definition of the term). I very much do believe there is such a thing as objective good and evil. In addition, I apologize for any of the posts I've made that are rude, aggressive, or otherwise unbecoming. I've always striven to walk a path befitting a follower of Christ, and now recognize some of my old comments here as misguided if not outright wrong. My parents are so boring lol, they wouldn't even watch a minute of an anime if I said they would like it.. It's like that with everything though, so w/e *FeelsBadMan* EDIT: Also, they are both like, anti Disney, which is odd but yeah, they would never watch an anime as far as I know |

Neither of my parents care if I like anime. I've tried to show them some though, and it didn't go that well. I explained that it can get sad and make you cry, so I tried to show them a few episodes of Clannad and they just said "that's depressing" and called Tomoya too depressed. I also got the blu rays for K-ON and when I was found watching it I had to explain how it's a Seinen aimed at older men and not little girls. |

Never. I would get the same kind of dumb comments I always get while watching stuff I like. Watching anything with my parents is always a fucking chore, unless we're talking your typical oscar bait borefests. Thankfully, taste in entertainment is not inherited. |

If he's traumatized by Illya's death, then what would happen if he watched Kanon? |

Showed Garden of words to my mom and she liked it. I think my dad would like some of the older movies but I haven't gotten around to showing him any, maybe I will. He would probably like Ghost in the shell. |

They know I like it but that's pretty much it. They have interests that are different from mine. |
