Is it like the new gay now that are gays accepted now people found something else to insult people with? It's seems pretty offensive to people with autism using the word as an insult just like using the word "gay" as an insult is offensive to gays. |

Well when your ignorant and you don't listen and/or deny facts and obvious things, you get called autistic because autistic people are like that, except it people with actual autism it has nothing to do with stupidity, rather it's a mental condition. It's the same reason why people get called retards when they disagree with other people. TL;DR cuz 4chan |

No one even know what it means really. They just try to use it as an alternative for "retard". Autism is very different for people and effects them in different ways. It's actually not a good insult at all since there are very successful people with autism that you wouldn't even know. It pretty much boils down to ignorance ironically. |

Most studies show that people with autism and just autism genes score as average as people without autism on basic intelligence tests, but some more recent studies show that people with the autism gene scored higher. It still hasn't been proven, but there's a possibility that they are even more intelligent than an average human. |

Like most insults after a while it has become its own thing. Like faggot people don't call others faggot now in any harmful anti gay way its just the insult faggot. Same with autism not like people are calling others autistic its the insult version which is an insult for itself. Its like calling someone a wanker its less about the person factually jerking off and more the word itself been an insult they know its an insult so it doesn't have to have greater meaning. However someone could call themselves a wanker factually that they constantly masterbate and its like a different meaning. All these words no longer are just connected to their origins now they're words to fill in for an insult. As long as the person knows you're insulting them doesn't matter what word you use to fill it in. Tool, dick, asshole, autist, faggot, wanker, fucknugget ect ect |

Ignorance is a state of being uninformed and unaware. It can also mean that a person is lazy to notice something, or is doing so deliberately. As for stupidity, it is knowing what is right and trying to find it in the wrong. STUPIDITY IS NOT THE LACK OF KNOWLEDGE, BUT THE ILLUSION OF HAVING IT... I will just leave this and let you come to your own conclusion. |

It's just a generic term for saying you're an idiot, basically. WHen people use it as an insult they are definitely just calling you an idiot, fool, or moron, a complete moronic imbecile. Doesn't really mean you actually have the condition of autism which is something different. Similarly when you say something is gay in a bad way what you really mean is that it sucks. But sometimes it can pack more punch when you use a more specific word... |

Look up autism spectrum disorder. It's really a blanket diagnosis for a range of symptoms. People with mild forms can function in society without it being noticeable, but every now and then they will act abnormally. For the same reason, people that act weird can get labelled as autistic, since there really is no difference. |

traed said: The same reason calling someone a moron, an idiot, or a retard is an insult. All of those used to be psychological terms. It's just a way of describing someone in an exaggerated way. But autism is more prevalent in anime viewers than any other base, so why would you be surprised at the term being used around more often, especially over here. -Visually simulating. (Autism-spectrum w/ above-average visual-discrimination) -Thought provoking. (Autism-spectrum w/ high IQ) -Increased comfort level compared to watching live-action (Social difficulties) -Fantastical fictional settings (Escapism) -Watching social interactions among characters (Lonely? Desires social interaction, but has difficultly going out in real-life to do so) -Japanese language (Enjoys the sound of Japanese dialog or possibly not needing to listen to what is being said?) -Subtitles (Processes information better visually?) -Never-ending supply of free entertainment (official-streams and fansubs released often) It's also due to the more extreme characterizations in anime; the majority of anime have very somewhat binary characters. Mainstream television tends to have characters that more closely fit social norms, which autistics and those with Asperger's may a bit more find it difficult to relate to. |

Depends on the useage. If it's a bunch of assholes picking on a socially awkward person who has a lower emotional age just because they can, then of course that's pretty fuckin mean but if you're just using it in the way people previously used to use words like "retarded" then it isn't as bad. But as long as you consider the fact that the condition associated with the word is an actual issue and don't use it to be an asshole then sure, call your dishwasher autistic or something. Saying this as a genuine piece-of-paper-and-everything autist. Lol. Do I like the fact people use the name of my condition as an insult? In theory no because I don't consider being autistic to be a degrading thing, but I realise there's alot of tounge-in-cheekness behind it. So I'm not gonna split my dick over it. |
