Speculating is dirty business, I know; but worse is to remain unaware. Preferring more complex forms of art has always been linked to higher intelligence. And since anime is an art form not free from the categories of 'simple' and 'complex', one could establish validly that liking complex anime is a sign of higher intelligence. We often come across people complaining, 'I didn't understand this anime', and often the less intelligent among us interpret it as a flaw of the anime; whereas in contrast, people who understood the anime are more in proportion. But is that a proof of the anime being simple and dumb? No. Complex anime are usually watched by those looking for them. If some casual viewer feels adventurous and plunges into this territory, he will, I'm afraid, only contaminate the statistical ground of the viewership of that certain anime. Considering all that had hitherto been said, would it be wrong to say that if a person with higher IQ likes a certain anime then that anime is 'objectively good'? I already stated that complex anime have a saturated viewership usually possessing an intellect above normal. So you can be free of doubt about an anime if you see its viewership possessing intellect above the average. What is your view on this? | Two of the smartest in our grade are my friends, and they're also anime fans like me (though I'm on a lot higher level). Our no. 1 says Akame ga Kill is one of his favorite endings (I lol'd hard when he said this to me), and our no. 2 likes both mainstream and normal anime. Based on my two friends, I'd say IQ doesn't really matter in regards of your tastes in anime. P.S. : I don't know my IQ and I'm too lazy to take an IQ test. |

My favorite anime: Dog Days Some intellectual anime I liked: Rokka no Yuusha; Rocket Girls; Dennou Coil; Chikyuu Shoujo Arjuna; Shinreigari: Ghost Hound. You know, being smart (which is not necessarily the same as high IQ) allows one to watch more complicated anime. But not every complicated anime deserves to be as complicated. As a general rule, many of us don't like it when an anime is complicated, but there's nothing inside once you've solved the puzzle. On the other hand, when a smart person really understands something, he doesn't have much trouble explaining it to others. So I think those "complicated" anime often are just the author failing to write something easier to understand. Or just pandering to elitists. I like a number of anime because they lie in areas that are relevant to me. For example, I liked Rocket Girls for being realistic (yet cool) anime about space. Boku no pico has one of the best characters & Characterizations I've ever seen in fiction. other interesting themes are : Love can be between more than 2 people with a presentation in one of the episodes cross dressing which a lot of young boys seems to be into since anime is harming their potential growth as human being with a functioning brain and degenerating the person's conscious to try and look like a girl. How adults can show love by using human interaction with both hands and the third leg. Boku No Pico is a must watch but be sure to drink your milk , count your numbers and memorize your alphabets before doing so. |
