I generally find it easier to enjoy 80's-90's anime, for no particular reason, even though I have no problem with new shows. Do you have a preference, or do you not care?

Newer anime. Why? May it cause or shitstorm or not, but my simple reason, better quality. Not as in plot but the power of blu-ray.

Even tho I don't think I've seen enough older anime to judge, I think I like newer anime better.
BTW OP, thanks for making an actual discussion thread. I was afraid this was going to be a clone from the other one.

What basis are you using to choose what old anime to compare to new anime? There are a lot better choices than the ones on that image if all your simply going to do is compare art style/character design.

I tend to watch newer anime more, but as long as I enjoy them I don't really care.

I wonder how long until this thread becomes a ~*old classic x new anime*~ battlefield.

It's hard to say. I guess I prefer 70's and 80's artwork, and now that theres so much more anime every year its hard to spot the gems. But theres still a lot of good shows, you just have to look for them I guess.

So, why does there have to be so much of a gap between "new school" and "old school" fans? To me....if I like an anime, I just like an anime. I don't care when it was made and I don't care if it is in HD or not. And, to me, it's equally as ridiculous on both sides at times. Though, I will admit that old school fans tend to come off as particularly intolerant. Plusme, I'm looking at you.

Well here's the thing. There are some good old anime and there are good new anime.
But if you compare the two, there is more good new anime than good old anime.

I mean, sure there's stuff like Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Gunbuster, Rose of Versailles, and Evangelion. But there was also a ton of crap that was made like MD Geist. I always have a good laugh reading all the anime on Anibd that are awful.
The Golden Age of anime was from 1998 to 2007. So much good anime got made during that time and the ratio of good to bad anime that got made in that time-period is a lot better compared to anime from 1970 to 1995.

I enjoy anything - but I prefer shows from ~2002 and onward due to a huge jump in technology used in the production making it more fluid and vibrant. Anime also took a turn from mostly being generic shitty shows aiming to make sales off of pointless violence and tit scenes to finally being about story and character development around that same time.

Nope. It was never the golden era. Japanese animation started to deteriorate at the moment they switched from hand-drawn cel to computer digital, which was around some time in the late-90s. And was also the time they mass-outsourced to other contries.

Don't care how old an anime is, all that matters to me is how it was made.

I like newer shows more, mainly because of the quality and art style is just better in my opinion. I do like re-watching the older shows that I've grown to watching over the years, however I wont go and seek out older material (pre-2000) for the sake of finding something to watch. I just feel uncomfortable about watching older things. Gives me a sense of unease. The oldest thing I've watched when it comes to anime is Akira.

I don't care. I think that both Cowboy Bebop and Otaku no Video are amazing. On top of that, I also think K-On and Madoka Magica are amazing too. I think Evangelion sucks but I also think SAO sucks. Good things are good. That's all that matters

That classic look is hard to find now. Arrietty is one of the prettiest anime I've seen.
