| Happy endings are overestimated and overused and Its sucks how some animes try to have one when It clearly doesn't fit or pull out a Deus Ex just for the sake of having a happy ending. Those "potentially" sad endings are just frustating. The main protagonist is dead, or the world or going to end or w/e, and they put on some cheerful song and smiling characters and just try to force a happy ending (I'm looking at you DTB). I rewatched Death Note and while I think there are better animes in general, I just loved how it ended, I'd say Its the best ending I've ever seen. Anyway, do you like sad endings? |

| I think it really depends on the anime. A few animes I can think of had sad endings but probably the most infamous would be Chrno Crusade. My God did that ending have me depressed for days and I'm not even a big fan of that show. |

| Overestimated? I like sad endings and I like happy endings. Based on the show, but I usually am satisfied if the anime ends how the author meant it to(not those anime only endings). I liked Darker Than Black's ending, and Death Note's ending was expected and realistic. So I like each one the same amount, they each make you feel a different feeling when it ends. BTW you can use [spoiler]Put things here[spoiler] if you want to have a spoiler, just saying spoiler is not really good enough. And everybody almost cried when charmander's flame was going out. |

By overestimated I mean, people seem to try to avoid sad endings and end up forcing happy stuff in the last minutes to turn it into a happy ending... Not only animes, but also movies, games and series. I enjoy both happy and sad endings, but since I've seen so few sad endings, I tend to find them more unpredictable and fun. I liked DTB's ending too, but So I feel like It being more melancholic without cheerful song/characters would fit it better. (talking about season 2 ending) Thanks for the spoiler tag |

If the character development is sub-par and the anime has a sad ending, it just doesn't seem as good as it should. Rosette and Chrno were develped really well in Chrno Crusade so that made for an even more powerful sad ending. I would also recommend Katanagatari (although I think the early parts of the final episode are sadder than the latter parts of the episode, and sola. I thought sola had a pretty good sad ending but I might need to put an * by it. I thought the ending was sad but I'm sure there are some people out there that didn't think so. |

| Chrno Crusade ending was a big fuck you in the face man. lol Pretty depressing. Honestly, I'm not to keen on sad endings. I mean if it's appropriate for the story I guess but most of the time I'd prefer some sort of happy ending. I'm just cheesy like that. It ain't easy being cheesy. |

| I like sad endings, but good endings are cool too. I guess the only way I would have a problem with a happy ending is if the feeling is forced, like Mirai Nikki's ending, which was shitty imo. |
| As they say, it depends on the anime, there are some animes did have its sad ending but left us smiling. If the anime ends that way, well i totally love it. ^~^ |

| It depends on the kind of sadness really. There is a sadness where one admits defeat, where everything ends, where nothing but darkness happens. A few saddening animes would be (off the top of my head): - Cassherns Sin - Clannad: After Story (Was the hardest i've cried to date) - Chrno Crusade - Ga-Rei: Zero (Recommended by a friend who says it always makes him depressed) I'm not sure where its leading and I don't plan on having any spoilers, but SAO (Sword Art Online) anime has had me and a few others in tears at times, as well as triumphant times of joy. Have a poke around, I think somebody mentioned Wolf's Rain as a sad anime to me once? I'm not too sure about that one. ------------------ Again, depending on the theme and style (Such as Chrno Crusade), a sad ending can make an amazing anime ever more beautiful. However, sometimes the sad element of things is killed and that kind of kills the show in general.... So yup. |

| I like them. The sadder the better. If the characters are emotionally destroyed at the end, it's a plus. But if there has to be some happiness in there, I like it when they make it bittersweet ("Yes, we won, but we had to sacrifice a lot") Deziah said: I like closure. Period. | I don't understand why people mention Clannad here though, it didn't have any sad ending at all, hell, any tragedy it had got washed away with the end. But it depends, the important thing is that the ending is well written and follows logically from the rest of the plot, whether it is sad, happy or bittersweet doesn't matter. Texhnolyze for example had a great downer ending, but it's not as if you didn't expect it. Similarly, LoGH's bittersweet ending was pretty much the only logical conclusion to the story. |

| Depends on your definition of sad because i liked the endings of code geass and death note but an ending where my favorite character dies or fails to do something i wanted him to do, that i dont like |

You'll cry like a bitch. Ontopic, I love sad endings. They destroy me, but they leave a far more lasting impact than traditional happy endings. |

| I don't get it, how is Death Note's ending shit or epic fail? I don't think there was a sudden quality drop after L's death, Yotsuba part just wasn't as good as the beggining, so when people say that, I tend to think the only reason they think the quality dropped if because of L's death. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Either way, while I agree that the quality drop throughout the series, I still think the ending was perfect. Death Note ending without Light dying would just make it feel unfinished, would lack closure. |

You say that happy endings are overused, but I don't really agree with this. Sad endings can be really pushed sometimes because some people seem to think that an ending has to be sad to be good. |

| I don't like sad, I like wrist-cuttingly sad endings. Like, "why the hell was this anime even created?" sad endings. There is only one show that did this, Texhnolyze. I gave up on life for lyke a week after seeing it. |

| i don't even know how to vote. its really not a matter of preferring a happy or unhappy ending, its what is appropriate to that anime. It should make some sort of sense within the context of the show. sometimes theres a suddenl happy ending to a rather dark anime. that pisses me off. |
