That more or less went as expected, but it was still quite an emotional finale. They definitely pulled out all the stops for this one.

Overall, I do feel like an extra episode or two to slow down the pacing a little would have been better, but despite that and some animation shortcomings occasionally, the directing and atmosphere made this season quite solid. There was a lot going on though and a bit difficult to keep up, so maybe I'll have to revisit this again if we ever get a Season 3.

7.5/10.

Man what a finale. The big battle was everything you could ask for and more. Everyone praises MAPPA who put out big battle scenes at the cost of their animator’s health, but the production values of the AK anime are some of the best I’ve ever seen.

Frostnova’s death is some of the best character acting I’ve seen in an anime as well. Absolutely heartbreaking. Her seiyuu fully conveyed the gravity of that moment. The ragged breathing, reminiscing about her father, calling Doctor “Doctor”, joining Rhodes Island, etc. Truly did feel like we were watching someone die there. Someone who for once got to do something on her own terms.

Amiya confronting Wei and calling him out for how he’s used people as pawns was a phenomenal scene as well. It feels like we have to get a third season after this. Lot of set up there in that final scene and “Ursus” is coming.

Ngl as someone who hasn’t played the game, I was a little confused at some points during the story, but I still really enjoyed the anime.

Retrieving the dead is always important. For a team or organisation to work well trust must be forged between them. The battle against FrostNova though was pretty good. On top of the action i really liked seeing Frost and Amiya showcase their reasons for fighting as it added depth to the encounter. Ayahi's haunting vocals really served to enhance that fight in its last moments. Even though she was a villain Frost was such a tragic figure. In the long run cancelling the contract was the right call especially if Chen ended up finding what i think she found. From the ending looks like we'll be getting another season which is always good news. As a finale really liked this ep especially the fight and its enhancements that was achieved via Ayahi's singing and the discussion between Amiya and Frost.

Was a great final episode.

FrostNova and Amiya were great.

I hope the production is serious about having a season 3, after making credits over scenes.

I want to give a 9, because I had my share of fun. But Mephisto is still alive, so a basic 8 will be. How can I say. I can't stop this hate, I won't stop this hate.

3:40 FrostNova's lines weren't translated here. She says "This must be a punishment bestowed onto you"
7:33 Like how the eyecatch changed here. I think the shogi pieces weren't there before too.
Amiya can read minds???
The fight animation and soundtrack were great.
FrostNova's death was rough... "One of our people died." I wonder how was her relationship with Talulah.
From what I read, there were many corpses of the infected in the sewers. Messed up.
The Japanese name of the episode is 氷釈 (hyoushaku) - "melting like ice; dispelling doubts"

Quite enjoyed this, though at some points was a bit confused. This must be especially enjoyable for the people who played the game though.

The chickens are coming home to roost for Wei, huh? Quite literally at that. lol Once again, everything's done incredibly well. Unlike with JJK this season, I actually want to watch the fights here. And all the drama around those, whether lead-up or outro, is so balanced to weigh heavily without being overdone, it's quite stunning, like they have some small and sensitive chemist's scale to measure everything out. Being able to do it rather consistently throughout the season is even more amazing.

And the songs, the soundtrack as a whole, even the instrumental tracks alone - do we have a soundtrack album anywhere pls? I mean there should be, right? There should be.

Overall a good second season. Let's hope for a third season, even if the lack of an announcement at the end of the episode (as happened with the first) doesn't give me too much hope, at least in the short term.

And Perish in Frost ends, bringing to a close FrostNova's arc (the best arc in the main story, IMO). This final episode was everything I wanted it to be. The last two were executed perfectly, and I really wish I could cry, because this would be the perfect moment for it.
Fun fact: the title of this chapter in-game is called "Partial Necrosis", which refers to Patriot and FrostNova: we saw it animated in this episode when FrostNova was reminiscing, but when Patriot rescued her from the Ursus prison camps and adopted her, his hands suffered from intense frostbite while hugging her.
Oh, I also loved seeing Wei's reaction to what Kal'tsit said. Now that's the look of a puppetmaster who has spontaneously realized that one of the puppets he thought he was controlling had snapped its own string ages ago.
I'm very positive we're going to get a third season, even without a direct announcement like there was at the end of the first season. The next two arcs are pretty long, so I'm guessing they'll both be individual seasons, rather than cramming multiple chapters of the story into one season like the previous two seasons have done. At the very least, I hope so.

@Embient Amiya can't directly read minds, but her ability to read emotions is like pseudo-mind reading. This comes up several times, but she's able to guess the immediate and most surface-level thoughts of someone through their emotional state. FrostNova was at that moment likely thinking about Talulah, and Amiya was able to read that from her emotions.
And yeah, the implications of what Ch'en found in the sewers are exactly that. Lungmen used the Reunion attack as an excuse to do a little bit of "spring cleaning" in the slums. Very messed up indeed.

Wow. Before I write, let me just say you did it Yostar Pictures. Albeit cutting Ch 5 a bit (though not really important), 3 lengthy chapters in 8 episodes with all the important bits kept. Well done.

Now,
Honestly, this episode was perfect. The build-up, the anticipation, the clash of ideals between fights, the overpowering might of Frostnova where there was no victor in the end. Doctor and Frostnova's intimate moments before her passing was done beautifully, the urgency in her voice telling of how it should be, and how it should continue after her passing. Doctor's emotion brought out to its fullest, the death of a new fellow comrade. The VAs did absolutely fantastic as they did last season, another 12/10 performance.

They did omit a funny line in Greythroats/Blazes dialogue, yet I thought the serious atmosphere that was already established between Amiya's confrontation with Wei and the dialogue of ideals and companionship.

With Ch'en seemingly close to breaking and Kal discussing the pending doom approaching (including a Kaschey name drop), we are now set for the start of Chapter 7.

Overall, I believe Yostar Pictures did a great job with a big improvement from the last season. Final Rating: 8.5/10

I knew what I was getting into but I didn't quite expect to shed a tear.

I do remember being depressed for a week after finishing this chapter in the game. Though that came from deep immersion that few hours of reading prior to this moment brought.

All in all for the 8 episodes long show, the anime did great to tell the story and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Arknights season 1 was nice and season 2 was freakin' good. There are still a lot of loose ends I don't quite get and a lot are left unrevealed. This finale was quite the treat but ForstNova's death hurt me a lot. And what did Wei do? What's Talulah even planning? I'm looking forward to a season 3, I really am.

The only thing that still bothers me from last season is that Doctor has so little speaking lines and are just there, while still not having any presence, and i know it's a self insert character from the game, but they could have tried to make doctor more of a character than they are in the game(doctor is really smart in the game), that's what usually makes or breaks a game adaptation is on how they use the MC( i hope they don't do this to the Sensei from Blue archive anime when it comes out, or rather if they remove the mc entirely like in azure lane game :P)

Otherwise a decent season 6/10

A very excellent season 👍 Game adaptations to anime does not always pan out but Arknights is proving me otherwise 👍 More Ch'en for next part after this I hope. And a sad ending for FrostNova and Yetis really after it all ends. Arknights seems rife with tragedies and dystopia as it should be. I look forward to the next part of Arknights and how things build from here

was expecting the singing to last twice as long at least, and the fight to last at least twice as long with one or two more random operators...big let down. it basically ended up being a rushed summary overall, now that it's finished.

i understood a lot of the choices made in season 1, but then they repeated those same choices for season 2 even though it had vastly improved ideas and scenarios already created for it. (Sasha's death was dragged out and garbage in the anime, but actually sudden and shocking in the visual novel game)

Good night, Elite operator Frostnova. Her VA nailed it. They did chapter 6 justice. No season 3 announcement at the end. Frostnova requesting the doctor to save the old Talulah, Chen mentioning Kaschey and the cliffhanger. I'd be surprised if they won't adapt chapter 7 and 8.
Here's an old MV for chapter 6.

Yes, as someone who never knew of the existence or so much as consciously even heard and registered its name prior to late last year and a completely random happenstance leading me to watching the series, I continue to remain pleased and impressed with the living breathing environment they've created for this one and the passion which oozes out of it.

I enjoyed this season as well - both every episode individually and the whole collective package, but if anything and if forced to choose, by at least a decent bit I prefer the first for still containing some of the single most powerful moments in its scenes - in terms of voiced lines of dialogue, use and incorporation of the OST, direction of battle scenes, etc. up to now. I still don't think anything tops the last two episodes of the last season - the raging battle at the quarry site on Lungmen's outskirts and the multiple existential crises of characters' faiths and worldview on top of and in conflict with one another. Though the last two episodes of this season, episode two as a whole, and some other randomly interspersed scenes and moments definitely, at least, if not quite matching or exceeding them, serve as an adequate spiritual successor during season two.

In reading all the comments on the sub-forums for this and season one, the reviews for Arknights as an anime on MAL (both seasons, but especially season one's since it's been out a lot longer and has significantly more of them), and comments on other forums and anime database websites, one thing I still cannot disagree more and reject in full is the shitting on season one. It's just the complete antithesis of how I feel about it and what it achieved. For somebody to whom the games meant nothing and were a non-entity because I had zero prior knowledge, season one as an introduction to the series provided some of the most captivating and powerful moments that I had seen from anime all that year, and which you don't always see executed with such finesse in the average anime series you watch, and without that loving skillful hand I would never have continued with the series and probably just considered watching it some misplaced errant curiosity and a failed experiment. But you could sense the seriousness with which it was taken and that made Terra feel alive.

In turn, I got interested in reading up on the world and its lore, and who'd have thought a post-apocalyptic science fantasy world of such intricate detail would have been crafted for a mobile smartphone game (which I believe is also a gacha game? Although I'm not familiar with that whole subset of games and all the nitty-gritty mechanics on how they work).

Anyway, while some have commented in this place and beyond that season two was an improvement over season one or that they're glad, in effect, that season two salvaged or rescued the series from a rocky start of the lackluster and disappointing first season, I instead also enjoyed season two, but don't see it that way at all. Rather I'm glad season two continued to appear to be reaching for the same high standard and honor the stakes and gravitas which season one very much imparted. To me it meant that it wasn't as if season one was a one-off fluke and that the show was going to go downhill immediately after.

If it has not been the best adaptation of a video game, it must be among the best, even though they have skipped things in the game, I understand that this is an adaptation and what they have done as much as in the first season, especially in this one, is a job. of people who love the game, the amount of details and how they have made the story show you things without telling them (something that the game never does and that has the problem of overexposure) is to be applauded.

Artistically, the way they play with the camera, the soundtrack, etc. in these last 4 episodes have been great and I really hope that it doesn't take long for them to announce another season even if it takes a while to arrive, I just want to live in the hope that we will see chapter 7 and 8 adapted.

Really Good Finale. Props to Yostar Pictures for making a really good gacha game adaptation, one of my favourite aswell. Not usual that any gacha game adaption will do well.

If there's any Season 3, I'll wait but maybe not too soon. Heard Yostar Pictures will mainly focus on either OVA of the Doctor's Past (In-game It's from Darknights' Memoirs and Vigilo) or the upcoming Blue Archive Anime but who knows. Third season should be a blast comparing to the tragic second season so they still have time to improve.

@WatchTillTandava That is what I think season 1, and the early game as well, still manages to do right. Even getting to look back at the writing with the anime, it still introduces the viewer to a well-designed world that was ripe for stories. However, the anime still failed in it's own ways. Like I could only take so many fights where the reunion guys just... stand there to be hit without moving. Season 2 just has better writing in the source material and had proper love given to the animation elements, excluding episode 5 (Edit: I meant 4).

I still remember first downloading the game, and the update screen is a slideshow of different game terminology. Even before you start you are being introduced to oripathy with a little girl sitting in an alley with rocks on her skin, or originium itself with the massive crystals jutting out of the land. It does well to gather your interest, and I still think the early writing is better than many other gachas.

No, not exactly. Doctor isn't as active until the beginning of Ch 7 and the next chapters following. They are the same in the game as in the anime. Also Doctor is not a self-insert, that is your first mistake.

@Animorphimagi One, FN was already to her breaking point. You have to be realistic here, she couldn't go on for any longer, which is why Amiya, Greythroat, Blaze, and Doctor weren't destroyed. Also, I beg you to read Ch 6 again cause have it quite wrong. "Sasha's death was dragged out and garbage in the anime" is the worst take I've heard yet. The game's version wasn't that shocking or powerful, with him just walking up and being oneshotted soon after. Where in the anime he stands against the army in front of him, and aims knowing it is his last, with a triumphant yet dead smile, done with it all. He dies a warrior's death.

Awww I wanted to see Ch'en pulling her sword on Wei, what a pity.

Anyway, the season had some underwhelming traits, but this episode, is just flawless.

@xBLEVx >excluding episode 5

I believe you mean episode 4 as 5 was fantastic.

@mBlazi Oh, you're right. I should've gone back to check which it was.

good ride, better than last seasons ender. pretty much lacking any comedy without those 4, prolly doesnt have any here
the pacing was a bit too fast with a new side of lung showing up, literally hoping they slowed down a bit before adding a new branch
anime/manga version of steam would be awesome - https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1625396
