THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Been awhile since I've seen the first season or movie but it's alright so far.

I think the pacing is fine so far but they introduced quite a bit of characters. Not to mention, action and planning was in full force for the second half. Some major foreshadowing with the experimentation as well.

I'm surprised that I have very little to say about this episode, maybe it's because I lost all the excitement after that disappointing movie. They are going to continue and expand the theme of "Communication" none the less given the writer, Tow Ubukata, which frankly is the only thing that I'm interested in.

Didn't this air yesterday? I saw people saying that CR had this one, but I can't find it on CR's page and so far I've only found RAWS. I hope someone gets this one soon, feels like I've been waiting forever.
Odds are I'm not going to find my way back to a thread after my first post, it happens on occasion but not often. So, if I say something that offends you and you feel the need to force your opinion on me because obviously everyone should have your opinion or none at all, feel free to post it in the thread that I'll probably never see again. However, if you are interested in intelligent discourse, feel free to message me.

Apparently it was such a last-minute pickup for CR (to the point that they only got the materials a day before they announced it) that they're scrambling to get the video out ASAP while also having some communication issues with Japan. Episode 2 SHOULD be on schedule, but...

Sadly I cannot watch this as I didn't see the first 3 prequels. But I do like the recycled characters in the poster. Namely Athrun and Mirialia.

whats the point in this? Your not gonna know who any of the characters are, not know what the hell is going on, and your just going to spoil the fates of who lvies and who dies of the prequal which is actually a pretty good series.

your just ostracizing yourself of a good show and very likley any enjoyment for this one.

Hopefully a good mecha anime like the original series. I need something good to follow from this season.

As much as I'm excited with the installment of this new series, can't help but be bothered a bit with the character designs, still. It gets a bit annoying when I get confused or mix up between two characters that almost look too similar, with only the slight different hairstyle to actually differentiate them. But oh well, will let this pass for now, look forward to next episode to decide if I'll follow through with this episode by episode, or keep it on hold till all episodes completed.

The 3d rendering and animation quality improved so much. Probably some of the best I've seen so far...now just wait till the fafner's come out.

And it's like s1 ep1 all over again where they introduce pretty much all the new characters without letting you know a thing about them and expect your to remember for later.

Still excited for this series though and hopefully it meets the standards of the original.

Sui Kaburagi is a great character, hope he does more than just comics. Nishio is good too, though since I had only watched the dub I never knew he was played by Yuki Kaji. At least he gets nice speaking lines now.

Otherwise glad to see Soushi and Kazuki again, its been so long. Hopefully he wont stay working at a coffee shop for the anime lol.

Visuals looked like they got an increase compared to the movie and to the first season.

I like how it is still so intense even after two years. Thought everything would have gone all peaceful but Im glad thats not the case. This needs to resolve it, though I dont think thirteen is enough?

woah whats this, fafner has a budget now?

I loved seeing how everyone moved on with their lives, the original cats are all grown up now with even the kids in the film showing maturity(the guy passing on the gobain torch was great). Another note was the directing felt way more refined than before, not sure how to desribe it but everything felt way more polished and well paced

Also it looks like they are planning to make this the grand finale to the fafner series from the sounds of soushi's message as well as all the foreshadowing and death flags. This potentially might be a heartwrenching ride and im quite excited to see where it goes. From the sound of the narration soushi may be pulling a right of left on us

Hell, I should'have rewatched the movie before going along with this new season, I hardly remember what happened.

Anyway, the increase of budget is pretty clearly already, and I'm glad of that. Also, I'm glad Angela was still hired for Fafner Exodus, looking forward to hear her OP&ED in the next episode.

So many new characters, so many deaths.

I'm having a hard hard time recalling anything more that the general plot of season 1 and the movie... it's really been a long time. Still, I seriously hope Kazuki will get into his rebuilt fafner soon because the season will pretty much be a failure in my book if the main badass doesn't show everybody once again just how much of a ba he still is.

yes you should watch it, it was a legit sequel that had pretty big plot importance on certain things.

And when this was announced it was said to be 26 episodes so it might be split cour

I'm glad the fandom still alive (somehow)!

I hope they really planning to split it to two cours, or it doesn't make sense to announce 26 episodes so proudly. I think they forgot about the new Sidonia season and other mechas.

By the way, I went to watch the uncutted version of the first two episodes and i have to say: they cutted too much of it!!! Not just 4 minutes...If anyone interested in it (without serious spoliers):

I'll be honest, I haven't watched the others but with so few mecha this season I decided to watch this anyway. So far nothing is confusing, it was an introductory episode like any other. Maybe it will bite me in the ass later, but so far this is like a first season as far as I'm concerned. I'll watch the "prequels" later.

Honestly, I was worried if would remember most of the first series, but the intro helped a lot. And for some reason I expected this to be a retelling of the movie, but the story continues, which is a great plus. Welcome to the Fafners, I enjoyed the episode quite a lot (after A.Z). Cool grown-up cast, curious new 'friends'. Although it seems to be the "beginning of the end', I hope it leans to stable peace this time around.

Alrighty then, off to watching it and that's good to hear although I do miss the days when mecha anime would go for 50+ episodes straight. We'll have Geass and 00 to thank for this split cour trend.

oh its gonna bite you in the ass hardcore, like i dont hesitate at all saying that you skipd dead agressor you are fucked when coming into this show blind, it was NOT a simple series at all and did not hold your hand in its information with alot of things taking the entire 25 episodes of the show to understand the full picture of things, they arent going to recap any of this most likley but its going to rely on them for the whole story.

But more importantly, this series will spoil and ruin the original by watching it out of order, theres simply no reason whatsoever to skip the prequals, you wont understand this, youll ruin the original series, and youl ultimately waste your time, its like starting gundam with char's counterattack there is no benefit whatsoever to it and only big downsides.

I suggest to watch at least the movie (SnF: Heaven and Earth), because it seems EXODUS will rely on knowing what Miwa and Emery are and what happened to Soushi. I think the movie will cover most of the setting, the groups, and the aliens' nature (it is a specific type of alien), but you may find some things confusing like the cores and the Fafners' upgrades usually depend on specific persons or events.

Though this was one of my most anticipated shows this season, I had some fears about it being too far removed from the original series and not getting enough effort in comparison. Now, after seeing the budget displayed in the first ep, I've no doubts that Xebec cares about Fafner franchise just as much the fans do.

yeah thats what im getting at, why get less of something good, especially if by skipping them you inadvertandly spoil them and make them significantly less enjoyable.

Jizzy as you would call yourself because youre a dick The most butthurt award goes to you And clearly you havent watched that many shows thats why you cant determine if a show is unique or not Or maybe you're just a child who likes common stuffs where hero saves the day and guys gets all the girls. Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

Start really exciting, a brief summary and then be thrown into the action with many beautiful mecha, gorgeous!
The plot looks back over past events, but it was just me, but the many years since the first season, the characters are all familiar to me.
Quality of CG and drawings really very good, you notice the improvement due to the years.

The complete 35 minutes version of EP1 is out, it actually explained some questions and gave out additional vital information like:

The battle sequence in Hawaii, and how Emery survived the nuke strike.

Johnathan, like Kazuki, can stop assimilation by his own strong will. I bet Toomi's father did something on him.

Also has some funny parts like Soushi's anal way of cooking and cleaning.

Do you know where I can watch the extended version of EP1? I can't find it anywhere unless I buy the DVD or Blue-ray from Japan.
