At the half way point now, and also nearing the end of the great Fall 2023 anime season with just two episodes left until the Winter 2024 stretch of the show began, it is weird thinking back to that time giving how recent it was, but it feels far away at the same time lol, man I hate time. That being said, I’ve definitely been really enjoying the show up to this point, i can certainly see why it had hype every week, because let me tell you I didn’t go a week without hearing about this show when it was airing lol, it is something special for sure, not just another fantasy anime.

And this episode was a very good one, with Sein as a member of the party now we got to see how they function with him onboard, and he’s already a great addition with how he helped out Fern in regards to Stark not getting her a gift for her birthday, it is funny how in non romance anime you have some of the best romance lol, I’m definitely a fan of the developments between Fern and Stark, as well as what we’ve seen of Frieren and Himmel in the past. I also liked the tidbit about pretending to be an adult from Heiter even long after his death, it’s so true man, but I’ll always be an anime loving kid on the inside lol. And the 2nd half where they were attacked and had to fix the wagon was fun, and I’m glad Frieren found that ring, ain’t no way it was happening without that spell lol, glad she got it giving the meaning behind it, I mean Himmel straight up proposed to her, it’s more evident now how he felt about her more than ever.

And once again, very good stuff we got here, looking forward to the rest of the show!

After last episode feeling very off to me, it seems like we're back to normal with this episode. Even Sein's character feels good and fitting with the show now instead of a side character like that merchant. I still think Sein's introduction episode (last episode) was very weak for a new party member compared to Stark and Fern's introduction episodes.

So it looks like they are indeed going forward with the expected ship of Fern x Stark. I'm pretty disappointed because it doesn't make that much sense, and I was hoping for a subversion. Much of the interactions between Stark and Fern is conflict, and it's one-way from Fern to Stark. The root cause of Fern's problems which causes the conflict is in her own mind, and is imaginary almost every time. She gets mad at Stark for things imagined that he's not actually at fault for, she thinks of him as a pervert when he's not actually being perverted. What's worse is Stark is victimized so much by Fern being mad at him for imagined things, he often tries to placate her with apologies for things he's not at fault for, and not even knowing what he's apologizing for. If that's not bad enough, Stark's whole character flaw and growth revolves around his lack of confidence and self-worth, and overcoming such. What Fern does to him not only doesn't help that, but it's the opposite by making things worse. Fern's relationship with Stark is the most toxic thing ever, it's undermining him instead of nurturing him...yet somehow it's thought as some precious heartwarming shipping?

I understand it's supposed to be comedic and romantic, but the longer the toxicity is coming from Fern each episode, the less comedic and romantic it becomes. What does Stark even see in Fern? What has Fern actually done for him that's positive? The only thing I can think of is buying him a birthday gift, but the real big irony with that is Fern didn't even know it was Stark's b-day until Frieren told her, yet she's crucifying him in this episode for thinking he's forgotten her b-day when he didn't actually. I really can't think of anything else beside getting his clothes back from gambling last episode which I felt that whole situation was unusually off the norm. Essentially it seems like Stark is being held hostage by Fern's imagination most of the time, and it's to his detriment in regards to his confidence and self-worth.

I'm actually kind of disgusted by how abused Stark is by Fern, and now he's sort of trapped in a romantic entanglement with her. I can only hope a subversion is coming because the anime seems to acknowledge Fern is being horrible to him by having Frieren and now Sein often pointing that out to her.

Was not expecting an episdoe this focused on romance. :3
Fern's is always nice to see, but it is also clear Himmel loved Frieren, that reaction is not for nothing, when he realized what the ring was.

Been awhile since I saw a new episode of Frieren, last time I seen ep13 was when I caught up with the release, which sucked hard, and now I felt I had to rewatch up to ep13 to continue to ep14, to refresh a few things, and I m glad I did.

Though i didnt like Sein much last episode my thoughts on him have improved, i like him. Stark forgetting Ferns birthday made me kinda sad and seeing Fern all mad and pouty faced was quite funny though and Fern kicking Sein was funny.

Stark getting Fern a bracelet that represents eternal love makes me happy both of them are quite together and i love seeing there relationship improve each and every episode. The moments they share are always great and i cant wait to see more of the two.

That creature picking up the cart there all traveling in was a wild ride especially when Frieren jumped out and got rid of the beast to see if they could stop it before it hit the ground. Frieren losing the braclet Himmel got for her had me worried and Fern saying they wouldnt leave until they found was kind of her and showed she cared. The flashback moment with Himmel and Frieren was definitely the highlight of this episdoe with the moment they shared under the clock tower with Himmel putting the ring on Frierens finger, eternal love.

Himmel knew what the ring meant.

I liked Sein openly calling Stark and Fern "lovebirds" (they really are! Fern was mad at Stark not buying her a present but didn't care about Frieren or Sein not buying her anything until Sein mentioned it), and also when he referred to Frieren as the third child in the group.
Also liked the detail of Sein going through different options for a present and landing on the first one again - this is definitely reminiscent of real life lol.

I expected Frieren to give the ring to Stark so that he could give it to Fern so I'm a bit disappointed she didn't do that, but maybe it would happen in a later episode. I do think the fact that both Stark and Fern bought each other a metal bracelet feels similar to a friendship bracelet but I'm not sure if it's intentional.

I have no idea why this anime is so loved, it's a completely average anime. He has a truly surprising assessment. Everyone keeps saying it's a very different anime, it's not different, I've watched 100 anime like it. The only reason why it is loved is probably because people are tired of anime called isekai. It definitely doesn't deserve the place it is. 6/10

OHHHH, THE FERN X STARK SHIP IS GETTING REAL, YES, LET'S GOOOO

This episode was so cute overall, firstly with Stark and Fern having an argument, because Stark didn't buy Fern a birthday present, but the reality was that he wanted to go with her to buy her a present, since he doesn't know much on what he should buy her, but he was afraid that would upset her even more, so he didn't say anything.
I found it funny when Sein said "Have the lovebirds fought?" xD
It's really interesting how Fern goes to Sein for advice, which shows that an adult human was important for Fern and Stark, since Frieren, as Sein says, is almost a kid in a way too xD But for real, it must be hard getting some advice from Frieren, since she will not really understand human nature.
But I loved how Frieren and Sein were spying on the young couple xD It was really cute.
And Fern got herself a matching bracelet with Stark. ISN'T THAT CUTE? For real, the ship is ready to sail, send the signal anime.

After that, we get to see that the design of the bracelet is the same as the design of Frieren's ring that was shown before, that Himmel gave her, and actually is usually given to a romantic partner to symbolise eternal love. Fern and Stark were completely unaware of that, of course, so was Frieren when she chose the ring, but Himmel certainly knew that, and that's why he put the ring on Frieren like it was a proposal. Himmel had deep feelings for Frieren, that mught explain why he ended up without any partner.

But the scene where Frieren was taking the things out of suitcase, and then the monster picked up the carridge, it was so funny, I don't know why xD
When Frieren was searching for the ring, I was thinking, isn't there any spell for lost accessories? And look, there it was, with the man from the carridge.

These cuter and more peaceful episodes are so so good, Sousou no Frieren is such a great anime, I'm loving every single second of it!
We got to see a bit of the dynamics of the party with Sein now, and I wonder if something will happen to him, since it doesn't seem he will be a permanent member, since he doesn't have that weight in the opening, nor is he casted as a main character. Maybe he will find his friend, but hopefully alive, and not in Heaven.

Also, I wanted to talk about this little detail in the opening I noticed some time ago, before we get a new opening, that is when the chorus starts playing, Himmel, Eisen and Heiter are shown facing their fronts, while Stark and Fern are shown facing their backs, which is really nice when you think you're seeing Frieren's POV, like if she's taking a walk with the group of people important to her, and when she looks back, to the past, will see the front of the people from her past (Himmel, Eisen and Heiter), while she looks up front, to her future/present, the people walking with her will have their backs faced to her, and will be the people from her near future (Stark and Fern)

Another day, another boring episode of Frieren.
I switched to the English dub to see if the voice acting is any better than the monotone prattling of the Japanese dub.
And... it is slightly better, Fern and Stark sound especially better. Frieren does not. But overall it did nothing for the show. All it is is very generic looking characters WALKING AROUND TALKING. Being in my own language makes the dialogue flow better, but it's all soft-spoken yammering... endless yammering.
It's no surprise this was written by a woman. It is just sitting around and talking, or walking around talking with little lovey-dovey dramatics here and there trying to take the place of actual dramatic tension brought about by the story. Or Stark yelling to try and drum up excitement- but the 'excitement' lasts about 30 seconds, and then we're back to slowly walking

and talking....

the cute levels are so highhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Sein is such a good influence on the group and Fern is so cute being protective of Frieren,

Stark is doing his best despite his anxiety and fears, and Frieren is having an opportunity to re-live her past through new eyes, it's a shame it took her so long, but i'm sure she's good at dealing with loss being an elf. Himmel was a bit of a donut, but he was kind and patient, even from beyond the grave he is still looking out for her.

it's very hard to dislike this show :>

The best episode without a doubt so far, an absolute masterpiece. The relationships and character development are the highlights, with that touch of romance, maturity, and adulthood. I'm torn between two scenes for the best one: when Stark and Fern reconcile, and the other when Himmel places the ring on Frieren. It's incredible how the author wants to portray Stark as a reflection of Himmel. Sein also contributes significantly, and the author masterfully balances feelings and emotions that make me deeply connect with this work. A true marvel, 10/10 from me.

@Garrett_Dark Good point about the self worth of stark. Fern is generally in two modes - either frieren-like apathy or pouting nervousness. I dislike her character. Especially so after it is revealed that STARK ACTUALLY REMEMBERED! He just wanted to treat Fern the same way she did on his birthday.

The constant Himmel flashbacks get tiring. The first one was wholly unnecessary. Fern was like "this place has a lot of nice shops", and Frieren is immediately taken back to Himmel saying the same thing. Gets annoying after a while.

The second flashback on the other hand, was great. I delight in how oblivious Frieren is to Himmel's display of love. I mean, this shit looked like a proposal! And Himmel was well aware of the meaning behind the ring, which makes the scene even more endearing.

I'm starting to like Sein. He seems like a more chill and depraved Heiter. I wonder if Sein, just like Heiter and that Elf monk have a strong desire to be praised by someone (be it the goddess or anyone else). No doubt Fern wanted some fatherly advice from Sein ^^.
Frieren would act like a wiser Sein if she wasn't such an autismo.

The logic Sein used when talking to Fern about choosing a present for her was odd.
If you ever have one fond memory of someone choosing a present with you, you suddenly don't want to engage in that activity ever again? why?
