Masterpi-ece. Pi-eak fiction.

I like this episode better than EP5. From what I understand, Takopi's deus ex machina (yes, it is) only happened because he regained his memories. Is it because Shizuka bonked him with a rock back in Tokyo? The power involves sacrificing himself, so it's not normally done, but it's OP (O-Pi?). It fixed the broken time machine camera. It probably required sacrificing himself because Takopi had to transfer his essence across specific points in a timeline, sorta like how O-pi-Wan Obi-Wan became one with the Force. In effect, he's able to give suggestive messages to Azuma, Shizuka, and Marina at various points in space-time. Perhaps, our characters were also given a vague idea of what their alternate timeline counterparts experienced. For me, the ending works, even if it's rather convenient and cheesy.

Shizuka finally breaking down, and also the moment Takopi let go of her to perform his sacrifice... it's... very... sad. 😢

Six episodes is the exact length this anime needed. I'm wondering how Death Note would be like if it ended with 25 episodes rather than 37. I think I've already seen it by watching this show. Perhaps Takopi gave me some measure of happiness too, lol.

This show wouldn't work as a movie because the various character arcs would be glossed over if you watch all of this at once in the span of 2+ hours. You need time to digest what you see.

I didn't plan to watch Takopi's Original Sin. Only did so because of unforeseen circumstances. But I'm glad it happened.

He finally got his memories back last episode, and yet he's still going around saying things like, "DoN't YoU WaNna SeE ShIzUkA HaPPy?" Like seriously? Please for the lvoe of god, FUCKING STOP. At least Azuma showed some actual development. Meanwhile, Takopii hasn’t changed a bit, still clinging to this version of Shizuka that barely even feels like Shizuka anymore.

But ofc, since it’s the final episode and we have to force a happy ending, we somehow manage to change the mind of a literal murderer in under three minutes, because that totally makes sense. And then we reset the timeline, effectively making everything that happened completely pointless. What a joke. Oh, and somehow Marina and Shizuka magically remember Takopii after all that, just conveniently enough to give us a feel-good bonding moment at the end.

God, the show was already awful, but this ending honestly rivals disasters like Darling in the FranXX, truly. And the similarities are hard to ignore, both are carried almost entirely by their animation, with everything else falling apart. That said, I’m still genuinely curious to see where the studio goes from here. ENISHIYA is easily one of the most interesting new companies to emerge this decade. I just hope their next project actually lives up to their potential instead of being another frustrating waste of talent.

You realize these were kids right lmao like Takopii himself is actually a child as well. Of course we don’t expect a drastic change because they all came from very damaging childhoods. They’re still children, in elementary school. Their minds are easily manipulated and sometimes easily persuaded. Especially under stressful circumstances. Most of the time all they need is for someone to listen and hear them. Recognize what they’re going through. Even through the scenarios Takopii went through, I believe he went through some growth himself. They all did. It wasn’t dramatic because it wouldn’t feel realistic if they did. This was probably one of the better anime I’ve seen in a long time. It deserves a 7-8 rating.

finished, and i'm kinda relieved it wasn't all meaningless suffering. i think people often forget these were just kids with awful influences that clearly affected their relationships and the way they went on with life... also, people complaining about the conflict resolution, like you can accept the alien octopus with gadgets that go back in time but draw the line at kids somewhat remembering him? 😭

anyways, it was good to see Marina and Shizuka hanging out, but it's probably in the most toxic co-depency friendship way, with how Marina still has the scar. i wish they had a proper support system and the adults in their lives weren't useless pieces of shit (lowkey marina's father needs to GO and her mother should get locked up). literally the only one in peace is Azuma bc he has Junya (my goat btw im glad at least there's one good person in this anime) shout out to all older siblings that take responsibility and support

So... Takopi had some secret power that he could use to brainwash everyone? Not sure what to think of the ending, it was a 10/10 show but man idk.
@flowwwstate By using his secret power his memories of them traveled back in time to them as a last resort to help them make up and become happy at the expense of his life, Takopi likely understood a must death is a must but it can't be any of them again (including the dog) as it always leads them to misery. His secret power causes him his life, probably why he didn't use it before. And either way, by the end of it Takopi succeed in his mission.

That's how I took it anyways.

I hate the ending. It's total bullshit.

For an anime that deals with real-life issues such as bullying, I expected a more down-to-earth resolution to this whole mess, something along the lines of "we can't change the past, but we can do better in the present." Maybe it's my fault for expecting too much. It was obvious that Marina would survive in the end, but even then, they could have come up with a better solution for this than a last-minute bullshit and a cheap sacrifice.

What a show! I was worried on how a show with this great stature was going to end. Whilst it wasn't a completely perfect ending, it was definitely a solid conclusion.

I'm so glad they didn't completely do cheap "and they all lived happily ever after" ending with all issues resolved. The character have such a rich deep background of trauma that it was pretty much impossible to completely fix.

I never saw this anime coming, so it was an absolute pleasure to watch and experience such great characters, especially episode 2.

Solid 9/10, likely going to be my anime of the year.

@Ryoketsu Why would an anime about a talking alien chibi octopus with magical gadgets tasked with helping ppl become happy even have a "down-to-earth" ending??? It was exactly about that and he succeeded in helping them become happy, they still suffered anyways but learned to let go of their grudges, coupe, smile, be happy, live their lives despite it all and do better however they can thanks to his help, that's a pretty reasonable, fitting ending.

Shit…

I’m at a loss for words. I had heard a lot about the manga—warnings, even—but I chose to ignore it all. I wanted to experience the anime adaptation with a clear mind, no expectations. And now that I have… I can say with absolute certainty: they were right.

What I just watched isn’t simply a story. It’s an experience. A narrative that’s raw, violently human, and so painfully honest it makes you uncomfortable. It’s heavy, difficult to digest, hard to process, and nearly impossible to describe adequately. And it’s not because of the fantastical elements—like that absurd alien octopus spreading happiness across Earth—but because of the harsh, devastating reality beneath it all: the children’s situation, their pain, abandonment, and hopelessness... it’s real. And that hurts. That fucking hurts.

I’m currently working on my university thesis, and I’m convinced this work deserves a place among my references. Because it brutally and precisely embodies Kant’s vision on the formation of human character: we’re not born with a defined personality—we are shaped by our circumstances, by the environment, by the misery or kindness of the world we’re forced to endure.

This anime, in just six episodes, is not simply one of the best of the season, or of the year. It is, in all its brutal power, one of the most impactful pieces of media ever produced. Maybe it won’t appear on anyone’s top 10 list, or top 20, or even top 50... but to me—to me—it left an emotional scar that I don’t think I’ll be able to erase anytime soon.

It fucked me up. And honestly, that’s the mark of a masterpiece.

I am actually surprised people are hating on this ending, when it's perfectly a reasonable, logical, fitting ending for this show, an anime about an alien tasked with helping ppl become happy ends with exactly that is PERFECT. Everything they gone through, through the many, many time resets came back to them thanks to Takopi's sacrifice helping them get over their suffering and misery, smile and be happy, live their lives despite everything they gone through thanks to their terrible parents IS EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS ABOUT FROM THE START, it's a great all-around ending.

While this episode ties everything together and serves as a fitting end to Takopi’s journey, I’ll admit, it didn’t hit me as hard as the others. It was overwhelming in a way that felt more exhausting than emotional at times.

I respect the direction, the way it revisits each character and shows Takopi trying to process the weight of everything he’s done. The title reflects that beautifully: this is no longer about a single person, it’s about everyone caught in the ripple effect of hurt and misunderstood intentions.

But by this point, the trauma loop felt a little too circular. I didn’t feel as emotionally shattered as I did in earlier episodes. Maybe because the twist already hit in Episode 5, and this was more like an extended goodbye.

That said, it’s still a solid finale. It gave closure, stayed true to the emotional core of the story, and didn’t shy away from showing that not all “happy endings” are clean or bright.

Look, my issue isn't really with how the story ended.
My issue was that we were shown NOTHING at it.

I wanted to see what happened with Azuma, I wanted to see what happened with Shizuka's sisters, I wanted to see how both her and Takopii came back home, I wanted to know more about Takopii's planet, I wanted to see Azuma's fight with his brother, I wanted to see Shizuka's and Marina's relationship develop, etc
You could've easily had two more episodes of this.

But instead, we got this:

Some say it was a happy ending. I don't think it was that happy, but at least it wasn't a catastrophic ending. At least the children didn't kill each other, nor was Chappy sacrificed. Marina and Shizuka continued living their miserable lives, but at least Takopi managed to get them to tolerate and even support each other. That, for me, is a total win.
A 10/10 story, it couldn't be anything else.

Takopi’s Original Sin is not for everyone — and that’s precisely why it matters. In less than 20 chapters, it delivers more emotional weight, social commentary, and existential pain than entire series with ten times its length.

alright, i dont wanna hear any "that ending was bad writing" so let me spit some words at your face

the camera sends people back in time, but since takopi doesnt come out of a time machine or a wormhole or anything, its really just sending memories back steins;gate style. what happens if the person whose memories are sent back is sacrificed to do it? those memories got dispersed through the lives of the people he messed with instead. where else are they gonna go? and it obviously wasnt a very clean implant of memories, they just kind of show up in places where takopi would have been if he was there. so it's all fuzzy for people.

so no, the writing isn't bad and this didn't really come from no where.

I would like to invite you to look at it from a different view. Shizuka was pushed to seeing death as a normal thing. She took her own life.

At the end you can see Marina still got her face scars and they had their messed up smiles. They found each other through having similar lives where Takopi turned into a bridge between them.

The ending might have been a bit rushed but it holds the emotional power. That really makes it a 10/10. I might be looking at it through rose tinted glasses. But that’s fine to me. 10/10 emotional anime are rare to me

And takopi is an alien. He deletes his memories to go back instead of embracing them at first. He lives through Marina’s life for a day and changes his whole personality because his probably immortal life was threatened by a human.

He changed plenty. He tried really hard to be the best he could be with his limited information

I know this is an unpopular opinion but I didn’t like the ending which is why my personal overall score for this anime will drop by initially 2 points. All this suffering, all this drama (which sometimes I admit it was a bit too “edgy”, more than it needed to be anyways) just so that Takopi sacrifices itself and they all magically become good with each other? And forget all of their problems. I know it’s about “happy magic” etc. but still, it couldn’t stop from being a bit too cheap for my taste.
@TehManiac they didn’t forget about all their problems at all, and just because the first five were extreme doesn’t mean it can’t have a happy ending, the whole point of this show, it’s themes and messages, get across regardless of the ending being happy or tragic, and most people wanted to see a happy ending where things kinda work out, it was rushed and the weakest episode but it was still the right idea

This anime was great and I loved it. But yeah, I can see the ending was somewhat disappointing, but it's not horrible or anything, but somewhat disappointing because in the end, everything got resolved with "magic". Suddenly, Takopi remembered things, and then with "magic", he was able to fix the camera and go back in time. I was expecting some time-traveling shenanigans to fix that fucked up timeline, so I'm not even disappointed about the time-traveling stuff in the ending to fix things because this was expected; what I didn't expect was "magic" to fix things up. It was a noble sacrifice, and Takopi will be missed, but I don't know, maybe this could have gone another way without the "magic" thingie.

Anyways, it's still a great anime, I had a lot of fun watching it and I won't let a somewhat weak ending ruin my whole enjoyment of this anime, since for the most part, almost everything was great and I barely complained about anything here, and if I don't complain about something then that means that I'm satisfied. So I will end my comment with a rating of:

@Obitozz yoooo wth did you not watch all 6 episodes? that's what shizuka did every ep, attached to a host

that's just how it is, no sugarcoating and I actually like shizuka so when I say awful character, I meant story-wise and if you think about it from both pov black or white, it either compliments or critiques her, well it's kinda both since they're both gray as characters

Loved (and cried to) this ending just as much as I did when I read the manga. The catharsis of Shizuka finally having someone listen to, understand, and sit with her pain after 5 episodes of others trying to ignore, fix, or push past it just hits me so hard.

I was somehow expecting Takopi's sacrifice not to work for me on this viewing. On paper it feels like it should be an overly convenient solution that doesn't make much sense. But nevertheless it lands on an emotional level for me Takopi's sacrifice, given the title of the show, should be read as a biblical allegory. An innocent being free from sin giving his life for the good of others, who maybe don't deserve it. But the resulting miracle feels like such a massive weight off after the absolutely oppressive tone of the series up to this point.

Back when I first read the series, I struggled to answer the question "What's different now? Why do Marina and Shizuka reconcile this time when they didn't in episode 1?" And now, I think my answer is that through Takopi they found for the first time that they share the same pain. It's something they don't fully understand, and struggle to explain, but are able to recognize in each other. And that recognition is exactly what they both needed.

Meh overall. Apart from the adults, I don't even hate the characters. Not even Marina. Not even Takopi, as annoying as he is. But like what others said, it feels cheap or it feels like it's lacking something for topics as complex as bullying, abuse, violence, suicide, etc. Feels like these topics were presented just to get the attention and reaction from audiences, because anyone would eat up anything that has miserable kids in it. But beyond "people can be both good and bad, ya dummy" there's not much effort to discuss it further, or dig deeper into these issues. Just... magic. Then all is well again.

Ending felt a bit rushed and out of nowhere to me, I'm not a fan of the "magic saves the day" resolution. Tbh the show didn't really say all that much in the end either (which I had hoped, especially regarding Marina's relation to her parents) so I'm not super satisfied with it as most people seem to be. I also don't see why people are praising the narrative as a masterpiece since similar stories have been done in live action format a bunch of times to better conclusions. At least Takopi was well directed and brilliantly told for what the story contained, it's just that the story itself is a bit lacking in scope for me to call it a masterpiece.

I do however think that overall the show was very well made and dealt with the topic in a creative way with some entertaining silly flare. 8.5/10.

It's definitely one of the best shows I've watched this year, though I'm not about to recommend it to everyone. I could say more relating to my own experiences, but suffice to say, I'm glad Shizuka and Marina broke the cycle. Just hope things get better for Azuma too. Either way, every adult in the show can get fucked.

Ending feels rushed. It was always going to be a time-travel, power-of-friendship ending and I like the actual end, but it was too sudden. This is like Batman V Superman "Martha" all over again. They bonded over a doodle and some vague memories? How the hell could Takopi know that would happen?

What a fantastic show. I’m glad it was short and sweet. No need to draw out a plot like this.

The theme of children coping with awful parents and the different directions it can take kids was great. It’s a tough subject matter, but it was handled very well.

The hopeful message in all that darkness is that you can meet someone, even one friend, who can help brighten your world and change your trajectory. I love that.

Characters and animation were all superb. Easy 9/10 for me.
