The actual content of this episode is whatever, but at least liked the older style aesthetic the series kinda tried to go with. Hopefully there's some actual longevity with this and it doesn't just descent into boredom really quickly.

Kind of generic, but in a good way.
"The future is always blank. Only your willpower can leave footsteps there."

It was a very confusing start, it felt like watching a 144p video. I had to go back and forth changing the video quality because I thought I was using the lowest resolution. But it turned out that there was nothing wrong, I thought that there was a mistake in the production lol. but it turned out that the intu was just the director's way of letting the audience know that it was the main female character's past.

When entering the monster field, there was one hilarious thing. that is, I thought that the charioteer would be eaten by a monster. and not long after he was really eaten lmao. after that the 13 heroes attacked the mask to the demon king's headquarters.

I didn't expect that the quality of the demon king animation could be this good, I thought it would be filled with rough 3D considering the visual quality of the anime is ordinary. but it turns out that the animation of the demon king and the battle is very epic and brutal, even when the demon king comes to the city center and destroys the city is also animated very epic.

Even though after that the pacing started to decline, but I quite enjoyed the second part. the part when the demon king was confused about taking care of the baby dwarf was very funny, and the interaction when the heroine was resurrected was also quite hilarious. although the heroine sounded annoying because she kept shouting, but I think I can understand it because she had just risen from the dead and in front of her was a demon king who wanted to take care of a baby. I still don't know where this is going, but I hope there will be no romance between the heroine and the demon king.

Hour long premiere ✅ badass cute female lead ✅ metal af dark fantasy setting ✅ traumatic and brutal scenes ✅ twists ✅ mysterious and thought provoking premise ✅ movie-like credits ✅ Clevatess ticked all my boxes. I love when I know anime of the season from the first week lol.

This was amazing. I love the almost Christine narrative of a de facto choosing to walk among man and learn how he lives. Clevatess destroyed the kingdom and killed everyone because they attacked him, but he himself never asked why humans would do that. Why would humanity feel trapped being confined to one continent and feel the need to fight back? The irony of an all powerful being raising a weak and defenceless child.

As cruel as Clevatess might want to present himself, he’s not above being moved by the words of a woman trying to protect a baby. He asks himself over the course of the episode “why didn’t listen to her and take this baby” but it’s because he knew, deep down, that she was right. Children can’t choose their parents and humans can be ANYTHING. That’s what makes us special. We don’t have to go down the same path.

That said, of course humanity see the Hideans get wiped out and instead of trying to figure out why and band together to stop the demon beasts, they’re just after their smithing techniques and resources. 🤦🏽‍♂️ really looking forward to seeing how the political stuff works out in this, finding out what the dark beasts are and why they kept humanity confined and how Luna will react to all of this when she gets old enough to realize wtf’s going on. I can tell I’m gonna love Klev and Alicia’s interactions though.

Very interesting musical set up here with Maeshima Mayu of Myth and Roid on the OP and ELLIE GOULDING on the ED lmao. I’m seated. Soon as I seen dudes getting their limbs cut off and chopped up like meat in the first few mins I knew this was special

Yeah. Alicia's reactions are a little too comical right now and it feels like her and Klev are more comedic than serious which is weird considering he killed her comrades and then forced her to be his servant. Hopefully their interactions get better.

I mean he killed her comrades after they attacked him. He didn’t go seek them out. You have a right to defend yourself. He then brought her back to life and is protecting the princess of the kingdom so clearly he’s not pure evil. She realizes that and that’s why their interactions are what they are. Just like he realized he never really tried to learn about humanity.

Well, the King gave the wrong answer.
If they knew Clevatess was intelligent, why didn't they try to negotiate with him.

I hope there is a beast in the water because if not, it makes no sense why they haven't tried sailing.

Clevatess is a fucking demirugo (or a god) who decided to create a human baby....

for him we humans are mere ants...

Is he male? female? or hermaphrodite?

Okay this was good. I love fantasy and this was good. There was gore (and I didn't find it unnecessary), the animation was nice, there is lore, the background score was good. Somehow it reminded me of Lodoss. I'm invested and it's releasing on a Friday. Next 11 weeks are going to be good.

I thought it was going to be generic, where Alicia would be just "badass" but the story took a sudden twist. So happy I decided to watch this.

I'm not convinced by this concept yet, but the production quality is so high that I can't deny its ambition.

With that said, I wish Clevatess should at least transform into a male body (or a more masculine version if that body is already male).

Talking about Alicia, she should at least consider herself lucky that Clevatess doesn't try "more" to make her milkable, especially after she mention the condition required.

But at least the justification for why he picked that body was sound. His motivation is to raise this kid and the form is of the one who handed the child to him.

Going on a tangent, I guess the woman who asked Clevatess to take the child was a nanny or maid. My assumption given the hair colour of the slain King, Luna and the other person who entered the kingdom after it was destroyed.

Clevatess himself is pretty goofy and the setting is very average fantasy, but the fact the animation isn't an eyesore like every other show and some darker tones show up from time to time, make this an anime i will be watching

Been a while a fantasy anime got my attention with a well made first episode. Right amount of animation and good use of the gore & dark elements as well.

"Show me your breasts" wasnt on my bingo but got that as well.

A Demon king, a baby and a walking corpse heroine. this is going to be a interesting combo.

But for the life of me i couldnt get why did a strong af demon king just get knocked out by a wooden club, maybe hes weaker in human form.

Really looking forward to next episodes to see where this journey goes

Watched this on a whim and I'm glad I did. Interesting and unique premise so far. I appreciate that it doesn't shy away from gore, but it's not overexaggerated either.

I kind of like that it set itself up as a fairly standard fantasy, leading you to believe Alicia is the true hero, or at least the one that slays Clevatess, or that she and the team of heroes will somehow win, and then Clevatess just kills them all.

This episode obviously had a pretty high production quality as well. It looked great, the motion was comfortably smooth and it sounded good as well.

The extended first episode was a great idea, too. I'm not sure I'd have been hooked in just the first 20 minutes or so, but I definitely am after the whole thing.

Honestly I give the first episode a 9/10. I look forward to seeing where it goes from here.

I think this is the show I was looking forward to the most when I first read about it before the season started and so far it's looking pretty good!

I'm not sure how to describe it but this almost feels like it wasn't made recently. Like idk maybe it's the animation or the artstyle but it just looks "older" I guess? idk it's hard to describe but I like it. I've felt like a lot of recent anime have looked vibrant, I guess? Not too sure how to describe that either but idk this feels like a nice break for that. Big fan of how this show looks so far!

I guess if there's one complaint I have it's the comedic moments. Hearing Alicia scream towards the end of the episode... idk I didn't like it, maybe it's her VA, I'm not sure but I don't mind it too much. For now.

Seems ok for now, the lore isn't that interesting but it is only the first episode so that can change. I do love that last moment though, reminds me of the beginning of Skyrim.

I don't know much about this anime, I honestly thought this will a usual hero trying ti defeat the dark lord or something and this episode starts with that. Then to my surprise the POV changes from the girl to the dark beast which caught my attention, as I am a fan of stories with MC as the evil guys or a different person who is outside of the classic hero's trop.

Now I am so into this anime with the second part of thus episode.

Wait what? This was a major surprise for me. What a show! What a first episode! Totally invested.

Wtf was that end though? Is Clevatess massively nerfed in humanoid form??? U for real? Basically you can kill someone so OP so easily?

Let me predict how the story goes. Alicia will eventually respect and be loyal to Clevatess while Clevatess will get attached, cherish and love Luna as she (he?) grows; meaning no longer just a puppet. Of course there will be drama eventually when Luna finds out Clevatess is responsible for the destruction of her homeland + death of her mother but Luna will also forgive Clevatess for everything. Jumping a gun by a MILE I know, but I wonder if the story will be THAT predictable.

King may have known Clevatess was intelligent but Alicia and others clearly had no idea apparently. The moment Clevatess spoke I also immediately thought "maybe they can talk it out first?" But discount Himmel immediately rushed for the attack and got obliterated. I suppose it'll take time before Alicia starts asking important questions to Clevatess too, and it makes sense. Right now pride, hatred, fear and distrust prevents her from opening up.

The 46 minutes flew by—I honestly didn’t even feel them. I’ll be honest, I chose to watch this just because the trailers gave me those old-school fantasy anime vibes with their style and color palette. The production quality is solid, and I really hope it doesn’t dip in the next few episodes.

The story hasn’t fully grabbed me yet, but I can see real potential for growth. Honestly, it feels like it deserves more than just 12 episodes. Still, it was a fresh and more than satisfying start.

True but she has no will of her own now and is forced to serve the person who killed her and her comrades. I wouldn't necessarily say that doesn't make him evil since he did just kill a bunch of innocent people.

Again he killed people that attacked him and wiped them out so they wouldn’t do it again. The whole point of that is it’s ironic because he never stopped and wondered why humanity was attacking him, he just defended himself and assumed they were evil, just like humanity assumes the beast lords are evil without talking to them.

I wanted to like this one for the aesthetic and nice visuals, but i couldn't get past the weak writing, the characters seem to drone on about things they know that we dont: were the heroes, these are our special weapons made to defeat the big demon, that's the demon lair, the demon is the strongest we've ever dealt with. just super obvious stuff, the heroes would already know eachother, they are famous, they all went to the same king for their weapons they know that.

The same problem extends to the demon, he needs to shut up, you could have him silent and menacing the whole time and literally just asking the king why the heroes are in his land would cover everything he talked about on the way, we dont need a woman to beg for her baby just let him pick up a crying baby and leave some tension and mystery in his plans.

I was really curious with this series, but it did the thing that ruined the remake of Bastard for me. Folks never shut up and let a moment sink in, no one can be left to guess whats happening because they dont trust the audiance to understand and think for themselves anymore, I love the style but it made me disappointed.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the premier was the length of 2 episodes and I think it worked better that way rather than splitting them up. Regarding the storyline itself, at first I thought that the humans and humanoids were encroaching onto demon land simply to expand their territory (and fill out the map) but after seeing Alicia's father get brutally murdered by a demon while on their own land I think the demons aren't any better than the humanoids and it may come down to survival of the fittest and smartest. Having said that I was surprised to see Clevatess accept a human baby and plans on raising it (really??) but at least that seems to have stopped his initial plans of wiping out all the humans and humanoids (at least for now).

Anyone else get some Berserk vibes from this? Not saying it's as good, but definitely got that feeling.

It was brutal in ways, hopeless in other ways. Humanity has no chance in hell of beating these beasts. Then we get a makeshift new family out of it....very jarring genre mashing but I'm interested.

The art style also had a retro feel to it, I'm liking that choice.

Berserk, Guin Saga, Juuni Kokuki (even though that's technically an isekai) - any high fantasy really, which give off some of the same feelings of the penchant for lore and classical fantasy aesthetics - especially the very medieval European-inspired ones.

Of course after that initial entry point of commonality every one of these series then have to distinguish themselves and rise or fall on their own merits. But it helps in being a member of the audience, as far as willingness to give it a chance, if you're already a high fantasy lover.
