The G1 Fall Tenno Sho, putting Oguri Cap against the biggest rivals of her generation, and it's quite the race battle between her, Super Creek, Tamamo Cross, plus the other heavyweights of the race itself. And the famous Tokyo Racecourse is not kind to anyone who doesn't take strategies alright, but while Tamamo Cross choosing to chase the pace surprises everyone, Oguri Cap tries her best to take advantage of the ailing horse girl whose effort guzzles at the last incline stretch. The horsegirl, who has bee eyeing herself to be the best in Japan and make her family proud, goes for one final spurt with her White Lightning Zone, effectively sealing the race with Oguri hitting her limit.

Everyone was expecting Oguri Cap to win, but given the circumstances of Tamamo Cross, it's really hard to win against the latter who was pushed against her limits by the Beast herself. Especially to everyone back at hime who were shocked at Oguri's loss, Tamamo was simply just the better horse girl who's the current peak to surpass.

The international G1 Japan Cup, promising the international stage of horsegirls, that will be the focus of the 2nd Cour, coming in Fall!

A great 1st Cour, all things considered for an Uma Musume spin-off.

Awesome race.

This was a very nice first cour. Oguri Cap is a good main character. I also liked Belno Light's funny personality.

Congrats, Tamamo Cross.
Whether who were the winners, both of them totally deserved it.

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

That was a super hype race that sets up their rivalry and relationship for part 2 going forward. Nice to see Cap finally take a loss. Felt like it had to come eventually. I did find myself chuckling at 'The Zone'.

Sadly no Uma Pyoi Densetsu means I do have to lower my score. Massive blunder not ending on that song like every other entry. Maybe part 2 can correct this mistake and I'll add the point back then.

Great finale to the first cour, Oguri looking like she has peaked, but clearly that isn't the case since you know, another cour and all that.
The flashback with small Tamamo Cross was cute, but also very sad when you remember her old man is in the hospital dying and seeing him tear up with her winning her race was sad.

Cute that everyone thought Oguri was too sad to goto class but comes in like her normal self.

Looking forward to the 2nd cour later in October though!

Getting the 2nd cour PV along with the teaser at the end of the episode, just a few months from now we get to see the new arc!

No twists, Tamamo won as expected. Everything was hinting at her win so no surprise there. The zone though, what's this kuroko no basktet lol. Felt over the top like that, not a fan. Anyway Oguri's first loss but she'll comeback stronger.

Enjoyed the first cour, looking forward to second cour in fall.

Defeat feels bitter indeed, but one defeat isn't the end of it all, Oguri just needs to rise against the challenges once more.

Can't wait for the next cour!

Finally we go the full depiction of a Zone in CG. And its glorious. The music too.

Tamamo being the only reason for cheering up to that old man follows real life events, so it makes it more heartfelt.

Waiting for next cour will be painful. Also was that
at the end? Because they mentioned Japan Cup.

Edit: So she is! Let's see what copyright free name they give her.

regarding the series for now, it might not have the drama highs of S2 or the animation highs of the movie, but overall it's a balanced package of the best tendencies of the series. My main complaint would be set ups that don't pay off. Like Sirius indicating at what seems like an injury last episode. Or usage of the bonds made in Tracen. Or actual training since Kasamatsu. Like regarding this steep hill at the end of the race. Would have loved a Tamamo live at the end too.

Underwhelming cour finale, I was expecting more. I'm glad Oguri Cap has lost for the first time in who knows many episodes, but the fact the first three minutes of the episode was a recap of the previous one and the rest of the race consisted mostly of CG racing and slightly animated stills wasn't very hype.

Yeah I had a feeling we were about to see Oguri lose once she was overconfident near the end, it made sense for her to win but you could just tell something was about to go wrong, and then Tamamo Cross’ backstory started playing… yeah GG lol, it signaled March’s loss earlier in the season but this time it was for Tamamo Cross’ win. But that was a really cool scene when Tamamo Cross entered the “zone” or what I’m guessing is the equivalent of a runner’s high, unfortunately not even Oguri could make something like that happen in that moment, but this sure was an epic win for Tamamo Cross, she finally defeated the “beast” and became the best in Japan for that old man from her backstory, I would have loved to see Oguri crush all the competition but realistically it couldn’t go on forever.

But man Oguri’s reaction to losing was really something else, I was wondering how she’d take her first loss in the nationals but for it to be “maybe I just didn’t want it bad enough” is both hilarious and badass lol, Oguri even loses in an awesome way. But the fact of the matter is, even with this loss Oguri still did the impossible with all of her wins up till now and even managed second place in a race like this, she should still hold her head up high like Jou said. And I’m surprised we didn’t get a Winning Live here at the end, but I really like how they left us off for now with Oguri and Tamamo Cross becoming proper rivals, Oguri casually showing up at the end covered in dirt to show the loss didn’t get her down, and finally the tease of a new American horse girl, that has me really hyped because I don’t think we’ve seen one till now in the TV anime (I haven’t watched the movie yet), it’s just a shame she’s not from Kentucky because it’s THE horse state, but I’ll take California lol.

And that was it for Cinderella Gray for now, and I’m very happy to say we are getting more, it was already known to be a split cour after all, but holy shit it’s in October!? That’s so damn soon lol, I guess it won’t be long until we get to see more epic horse girl action again. But man what a season this was, I think this was honestly right up there with Season 2 for me, I’m confident in that here at the end, hands down one of the best entries in the series so far, Oguri Cap worked incredibly well as MC and I really loved her story coming from the country to the big city, it’s a bit sad she had to leave her old friends and trainer behind to make it big but she still holds a close relationship with them all so I don’t mind it, we’re still awaiting Jou’s return as Oguri’s trainer too (assuming he passes the test) so we have that to look forward to eventually as well. And the OP and ED were bangers, I think they made the right choice in choosing a different vibe for the OP this time because it really fit the more serious nature of this show, and the ED was amazing too with its chill song and unique visuals, both are favorites of mine this season.

And now we just gotta wait a little bit to see where Oguri’s racing journey takes her next, if the next cour is even half as good as this one then I think we’re in for another great time.

Oguri really is a beast. I want to see how far she can go, instead of getting frustrated, she gets even more fired up. Every victory is an achievement, every loss a lesson. If she said she lacked the desire to win, then I can’t even imagine what it would be like if she were running "for her life."

Oguri already tried her best to win the G1 race, but sadly still loses to Tamamo thanks to her reaching "The Zone", I'll admit that I'm a bit disappointed at how they handle the scene though lol. No Umapyoi Densetsu in the ed feels illegal, can't believe they did that. They better have one in part 2.

Also, that Japan Cup teaser in the end makes me hype. Japan cup always had one of the most exciting races in the manga in my opinion.

CINEMAAAAAAAAAAA TAMAMO CROSS'S ZONE THE WHITE LIGHTING IS HEREEEE RAHHH KINO.

Oguri and Tama both deserve to win this race but, on my side, I want Tama to win. Oguri has won 6 matches in a row and as March said in episode 3, "Without a peak to aim for, there's no point in climbing the mountain." This is Oguri's chance to reach the mountain, after her defeat against Tama. and from now on, no ashen umamusume will ever be considered slow.

Tama-chan's backstory really says that Tama-chan will win Tenno Sho (Aki) G1. Tama-chan's backstory touched my heart they managed to make me care about Tama's Occhan.

Of course my favorite moment in this episode was Tama's Zone, and here's the introduction of Zone in Cinderella Gray, after Tama's Zone we will see Zone that is more hype than Tama's Zone so be prepared in Cour 2 in October. happy to see Obey Your Master in the end credit scene, can't wait for her race in Cour 2, JAPAN CUP HYPE.

With this episode we end Cour 1, I'm so glad Uma Musume is back as a seasonal anime. Uma Musume will remain my personal favorite for the sports genre in anime. What a journey, Cingray is my Anime of the Year so far and of course AOTS for me. EAGERLY WAITING FOR JAPAN CUP IN COUR 2 IN OCTOBER. 10/10

It's too bad Oguri Cap didn't win, but that's what makes this series so good - it is historically accurate from the actual races. Tama beat Oguri in their first matchup IRL at the Tenno Sho, so it is what it is.

ABSOLUTE. CAP.

CygamesPictures has delivered the best season of Umamusume yet! Starting this fall, Season 2 will feature a host of G1 races held in Japan, including the Tenno Sho and Japan Cup. Season 1 was broadcast alongside the Japanese Derby and Takarazuka Kinen, so we can expect more surprises. In summer, 2-year-olds make their "make debuts," while older horses—just like Oguri Cap when he transferred to the JRA—have their teams devising all kinds of strategies for the autumn races.

The Tenno Sho (Autumn), run on the Tokyo course, has hosted countless high-speed showdowns. The roar of the crowd in 1988, when two gray horses battled for the title of strongest, was particularly wild and electrifying. (KTV)

And what about other years? Here's a selection:

2022: The Beginning of a Legend, the Continuation of a Dream (JRA-EN) (KTV)
Equinox finished a close second in both the Satsuki Sho and the Japanese Derby. Rather than chasing the Classic Triple Crown, his team chose to face older horses for the first time.
Among his rivals were a star-studded lineup: Panthalassa, who had tied for first in the Dubai Turf; Jack d'Or, the Sapporo Kinen winner; and North Bridge, fresh off a victory in the Epsom Cup—an assembly of top front runners.
A bold front-run in the Tenno Sho (Autumn) brings back memories—whether you want to or not—of the haunting the "Sunday of Silence." Panthalassa's aggressive breakaway had spectators feeling an uneasy déjà vu.
This race, now regarded as one of the greatest of the 2020s, became a defining moment: Panthalassa carried the torch of an ongoing dream, and Equinox began writing his own legend.
This is the kind of race that lets you fully appreciate the charm of front-runners, who are often dismissed in this anime storyline.

2013: The Long-Awaited Explosion (KTV)
Just a Way, a Heart's Cry colt, was owned by Akatsuki Yamatoya—a screenwriter who also worked on the anime Gintama. The horse's name comes directly from a fictional bomb in the series: the "Justaway."
After winning the Arlington Cup as a 3-year-old, he couldn't quite seal the deal in subsequent races. As a 4-year-old, he had three straight second-place finishes leading up to the Mainichi Okan.
Race day arrived. Facing him were a formidable lineup: Gentildonna, the dominant favorite and Triple Tiara winner; Tokei Halo(not Tokai Teio), who had won the Sapporo Kinen; and Eishin Flash, the 2010 Derby champion. Just a Way went off as the 5th favorite.
But Heart's Cry progeny were said to have an edge over Deep Impact offspring—just like Heart's Cry himself once did. That rebellious bloodline pushed Just a Way to be exactly what he needed to be—nothing more, nothing less.
At the finish, the announcer shouted, “Just a Way—what DESTRUCTIVE power! He’s made it to G1 glory!

2000: O Sole Suo! (JRA-JP)
T.M. Opera O was ridden from debut by a then-young jockey, Ryuji Wada. After winning the Satsuki Sho, his inexperience began to show. Though the horse kept placing in the top three, he couldn't secure another win. Owner Masatsugu Takezono even demanded a jockey change. It never happened, and no further requests followed—but Wada only learned of this much later.
Despite that behind-the-scenes tension, Opera O began his 4-year-old season on a winning streak, claiming five straight graded races including the spring Tenno Sho and Takarazuka Kinen. He was now on the brink of an undefeated season and a clean sweep of the “older horse championship route” (G1 middle-to-long-distance races).
The once-in-a-generation opera king marched solo, intent on claiming the title of “Conqueror of the Century’s End”.

1985: The "Unbelievable" Fall of the Emperor (JRA-JP)
More than his victories, the three times he lost are what people remember.Symboli Rudolf, the Emperor was finally beaten, and the second horse to do it was Gallop Dyna. Despite his talent, Gallop Dyna had been a perennial runner-up, even in G3 races.
Give them a chance, and they’ll blossom. That’s the Northern Taste bloodline,” said Shadai Farm founder Zen’ya Yoshida, who greenlit the entry.
Even so, on race day Gallop Dyna was just the 13th favorite—barely above dead last. The whole atmosphere assumed an easy Symboli Rudolf win, with attention mostly on who’d finish second or third.
Hey, we might get 8th. That’s prize money. Wait, that’s 7th… 6th… whoa, 5th—we’re on the board. 4th—go on, GO!
Jockey Hiroyasu Nemoto’s goal had been merely to avoid coming last—but what followed was the gallop of a lifetime that flipped everything on its head.

An amazing finale shows us the conclusion of the legendary first race between Oguri Cap and Tamamo Cross, which has Tama-chan enter the zone with her front running strategy, and end Oguri's 6 win streak since coming to nationals while giving her back to back wins in the Tenno Sho. What an emotional ride seeing how it was Tama-chan's past training with the old man that was able to pull her through the final portion and surpass Oguri's final spurt, taking on the spot as Japan's number 1 Uma-Musume for now. Cheers to more races between our two Ashen horse girls.

Oguri losing here was kind of anticipated with the amount of screentime and focus we have on Tamamo Cross, and how she was running for her previous trainer. It was getting emotional with some of her flashbacks, and Tamamo's White Lightning was sick to see. Excited for the second cour and now there's a new uma coming to challenge Oguri and Tamamo in the Japan Cup.

Alas, Oguri cannot win them all and her win streak comes to an end by none other than her fellow ashen-haired rival, Tamamo Cross. Tamamo's white lightning visual was super cool to see as she entered the zone and her backstory was heartwarming. Oguri's got a lot of work in front of her and she knows it.

THE ZONE!!!!!

Made me think of Kuroko no Basket.

A shame both of them didn't get into it. I guess a bit too early for our Oguri. While sad for Oguri Cap she didn't win I'm still happy for Tamamo Cross who won. She's currently the peak the mountain that Oguri needs to climb and surpass to become the best. Also seems like there will be more so can't wait to watch more. I think, unlike March, this will probably be a longer rivalry?

Running horse girls is actually so hype. Also just realized this is my 1000th anime completed! At least according to mal.

Perfect adaptation, haven't seen such a faithful manga adaptation since FMAB.
The fact this was made by CygamesPictures, and that it's immediately getting a 2nd season, are just blessings.
I fucking love Uma Musume.

I hope we keep getting more seasons constantly after the 2nd one, and I wish they do this same treatment to the other badass Uma manga: Star Blossom, well, they will most certainly do it, it's just a matter of when will they do it lol

10/10 Just as perfect as I expected, Oguri is literal "peak".

Normally I enjoy when main characters suffer defeat and use it for character growth, but this time it just felt undeserved. There was no explanation for how she managed to lose that race. Oguri is taller, stronger, harder working, more flexible, and has a proper diet, and somehow lost because of the power of friendship (her dad, but same concept). In my opinion the power scaling in this franchise is way too flimsy and situational. I would've loved for this series about a supposedly overpowered horsegirl, but instead I end up questioning everything I thought was a solid fact within the premise.

That was a fantastic final race, I thought for a moment Oguri was going to win but Tamamo went all Blue Eyes white Dragon with White Lightning ability and got a great victory.
Tamamo was definitely a character you could cheer for seeing a bit of her backstory.
It's not a bad thing that Oguri lost because it means that she now needs to unlock her ability and eventually defeat her.
Very happy to hear that was will be getting a 2nd season with a teaser of a strong new horse girl, I will definitely be watching.

I was hoping this time is a bit different because of the trainer issue, but still use same format like the other Uma Musume series. 1 MC 1 Rival story, side characters cheering, and lost in the final to the rival.

I hope next season will be continuation of Oguri story.

She lost because she can't activate the Zone skill lol. There's no power scaling, who win and lose is already scripted because people said the story is based on real life events

@LeonLanford Oh. Ok. The horse girls have superpowers.

It's cool that they are based on real results but I'd say real life is the original example of power scaling. I'm enjoying the series, so hopefully they continue in a good direction.

@SkyGalerio Not really superpower, Zone is pretty common power up in sports anime.

I was hoping more dynamic story like Symboli Rudolf vs Silence Suzuka vs Kitasan Black but gave up after finding out the events based on real life.

The reason Tamamo was able to win the race was because she spent more money on microtransactions

@SkyGalerio Well the other guy already answered stuff, but rl Tamamo was smol compared to Oguri too.
