I don't get why they made the the 50 year time jump slightly implicit. It didn't really impact the story much, so why not just tell us in a straightforward way?

Well, how much more explicit can it get than the main character, Yachiyo, saying that it's been 50 years since their last guest and that prior to that they had waited 100 years for the arrival of a new guest so they might as well give it at least another 50 since that last one?

I guess they could have it appear as a line of text like a title card on the screen, but if they opted for Yachiyo saying it instead, it's probably because they want to give less of a detached documentary tone to it and have details like that worked naturally into the speech of the characters, showing us things from their perspective.

This episode was pretty good. I was surprised that so much time had passed since the first alien had stayed at the hotel, but I guess since nothing ever changes, they can play around with time jumps.

The Tanukians are pretty annoying, which is partly the point, but boy did it feel good when Yachiyo blow a fuse and slug the dad in the face. Those dogs were getting too comfortable.

Also, I didn't really need the confirmation of the after-credits scene; I got what the show was going for when the Tanukians looked uneasy as they were talking about the human ship they boarded once. It was nice of them to lie to Yachiyo to spare her robot feelings.

@WatchTillTandava Yeah, it's just that the wording that Yachiyo used made it slightly unclear if she was talking about their last guest before the humans departed or if it was the alien guest from the previous episode. If she just would've mentioned that she was referring to the alien, it would've been completely clear

Those are a kind of guest I would not be too happy to have even after 50 years of no one. The kids are cute though.

I love Yachiyo when she starts losing it. At first, I was relieved that the new guests seemed peaceful and harmless but oh boy, I was so wrong. If Yachiyo hadn’t stepped in, earth would've been in serious trouble. I’m glad everything’s settled now. The guests are behaving, and the hotel even gained a new staff member. Looks like things are about to get a lot busier.

Yachiyo finally seeing Earthlings, though the Environment Checker robot sees otherwise that the Procione Family is more like a family of Tanukians pretending to be humans. Whatever, if they have money, they can suffice paying to stay at the Gingarou Hotel and being given the hospitality. And if it's a week they want, it's a week given to them for the rowdy family...which finally gets their cover blown from playing around with the Environment Checker robot. To learn that they're in the same predicament as the robots finding a place to live after their home got destroyed, the hope of seeing humans at least gives reassurance to the acting manager that humanity is alive and well, somewhere in space.

The disruptive Tanukian children of Ponko and Fuguri almost getting chased out by Yachiyo, who's in the midst of waiting for guests to arrivem and cleaning up their dung collection, only makes matters worse for her and the hotel staff wreaking havoc in the hotel. Clearly, something has to be done against the reluctant and incomprehensive family, and making a mess out of the hotel is a BIG no-no, with Yachiyo going balls off the wall to teach the family a lesson. And that was a harsh lesson learnt for the family cleaning up their literate shit, with Ponko joining the team at a healthy 54-year-old young tanuki.

I'm pretty sure that the Taunkians are NOT the only races surviving in space...

Tanukians? Really? Very fun, creative and... stinky 😆

So the food issue was partly explained; they are self-sufficient, at least in vegetables, since they maintain gardens on the roof and the adjacent building. No idea how they procure fish and lobsters, but they could conceivably hunt deer etc for venison.

And as I explained earlier if they replace the solar cells on their roof every ~25 years with fresh (and sealed) ones they find around Tokyo they could still have power after 150 years.

But the robot endurance math does not add up at all:
During the first 100 years they lost 3 - 4 times as many robots as the current survivors, as we were shown, so the remaining robots should have broken down after another 20 - 25 years. But implausibly another 50 years passed and they did not lose a single additional robot.

This glaring contradiction makes no sense.

This is both the best and worst episode. We get some funny Yachiyo moment, but at the same time, we meet the insufferable Tanuki family who, according to the list of characters, seem to be part of the regular cast.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a racist subtext here. It makes sense for the Tanuki to get some scolding and do as the earthlings do, but it might not sit well with people.

I thought that Tanukians want to go the earth because they want to get close to nature not trapped in a ship. But they suddenly changed from wating to make the hotel their home into staying at the hotel become the employees there? what the heck... They touched upon on some kind of virus or pollution and now they said the virus somehow affected primates? It feels a little too gimmicky to me for some reason. ....

The show has such a weird atmosphere. Everbody's dead and these robots have no purpose anymore, also haha funny aliens and fireworks. So far it's great. Weirdly enough, it reminds me of Aria.

@Absurdo_N same. It's so strange to imagine all the hotel staff being prepared to welcome new costumer 50 years, every day for 50 YEARS (after they've already wait a century).

Time can give you headache.

So it's been 50 years since the last guest visited the hotel. This show certainly offers remarkable time-lapses.
Sadly (though it's still too early to say) I have a feeling humanity ended up even worse than they expected.
Well... So far, all the guests have been weird. I wish there were some who were a little more normal. Lol
The short post-ED scene was terrifying but also sad. Intriguing!

Oh... or maybe not.... or maybe they are? No telling right now, but having an air of mystery doesn't hurt.
