Masterpiece of a prologue, reminded me of Ao no Orchestra where

That aside, had a hunch that Otoha is a 2 faced girl, due to her psychotic eat-to-ear grin, while she was drumming. Moreover, love the pun on her name, unaware if it's intended or not actually, however, for those who dunno, "oto" is Japanese for "sound", so yeah. Also, why's the demographic 4 this 1 "seinen"?

Like, all the characters are girls, who aim to be elegant & academic, shouldn't this be a "shoujo"? I know that an anime being about a whole cast of girls don't just make it shoujo, but i feel like the whole theme of the anime makes it so shoujo-like, so i dunno, imma make a request for a change.

Whatever happens happens, that aside, really confused about how Lilisa's pig tails float completely defying all laws of physics and gravity. Would love an explanation, but guess we'll never have one since it's anime, it is what it is. Good episode, excited to see how Lilisa's acting towards Otoha, moving forward.

@Skuvan Ignoring that the themes can easily fit outside of shoujo as well, that's not even relevant, it's based entirely on the source publication.

@LostSpectre Any theme can easily fit into any demographic, because the demographic is the target segmentation for the anime, it don't have anything to do with the theme. My point is that "girls being elegant & academic", suits a shoujo demographic, rather than 18+ men, you feel me?

the premise is just... yikes

the portrayal of rock is so fcking bad, its like what a 60 yo thinks is rock/metal
rock is not only loud and angry, its emotional and powerful

but hey, there's girl being semi gay (but not really, because author has no balls) so people will eat this shit up

also whoop-de-fucking-doo at these girls being unhappy, i know theyre basically kids, but how unfortunate you must be to have your financial stability basically set for life, really hard life there not worrying about anything besides "waah i cant do everything i want" chumps

production is nice tho, very good... but i dropped the manga and for sure im dropping this... i dont know why i even watched this first episode lmao

I got this same negative impression from the first PV. Though I don't think the division is as age-related as it used to be - hard rock and metal are over 50 years old, there are plenty of grandpas and grandmas in the metal community. If anything it's probably boomer music to a number of today's youth.

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2008/sep/08/classical.metal.fans.study

Classical music and heavy metal fans might not be different after all. New research by scientists at Heriot-Watt University has found that not only are peoples' personalities linked to their taste in music – classical and heavy metal listeners often have very similar dispositions.

"The general public has held a stereotype of heavy metal fans being suicidally depressed and a danger to themselves and society in general," explained Adrian North, the professor who led the study. "But they are quite delicate things."

Metal fans, like classical listeners, tend to be creative, gentle people, at ease with themselves. "We think the answer is that both types of music, classical and heavy metal, have something of the spiritual about them — they're very dramatic — a lot happens," North said to the BBC.

Researchers also found a link between income bracket and musical tastes, with lower income music-listeners enjoying relaxing music while wealthier people preferred exciting, punchy tunes.

Rachel Barton Pine is not your average violinist. After making her debut with the Chicago String Ensemble at the tender age of seven, Barton Pine has gone on to solo with major orchestras around the globe. But in 1997, she took a seemingly radical turn, releasing the heavy-metal/rock-inspired recording Stringendo: Storming the Citadel, featuring covers of not-so-light classics such as AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" and U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday." And in 2009, she joined Chicago thrash/doom metal band Earthen Grave, with whom she played until 2014.

Hell yeah, they actually used the song specified in the manga

I've already been a fan of the manga, but damn this first episode blew me out of the water! The yuri is lowkey bait but it's the best god damn bait I've seen, not to mention funny as fuck. I also find it really funny that they turn to CG anytime they touch an instrument, but I was pretty impressed by how smooth it looked!

I’ve seen enough. Anime of the season. Lesbian rock band, great music, beautiful art and amazing CGI? Welcome back girls band cry.

Had high expectations since it was announced and first episode surpassed em. Had shades of GBC, BTR, Kaguya-sama, Tensei Ojisan(Suzunomiya having to pretend to be proper all the time) and Kakegurui with Otoha design and degenerate true personality lol. Combining a ton of shows and characters I like into one series is always a sure fire way to make me like a show, plus a story where music is used on a journey of self discovery and exploration is always good.

Lilisa must have felt like she was a bird in a cage with how stuffy and uptight everyone is towards her because of her family name, even her mom acts like a stiff! Has to feel like hell never being able to be yourself or do the things you want to because of the expectations placed on you. She could not have bumped into Otoha at a better time because it looked like she was about to explode!

Speaking of bumping into each other, I know a lesbian awakening when I see one lmao. That meeting scene was so good. Looking forward to seeing our two leads relationship develop! The music sounds great as well, I love Japanese alt rock, kinda get tricot and MOTFD vibes from a few of the songs we heard, can’t wait to hear more! If the 3DCGI is gonna be that well blended throughout, we are eating very good. The way they visualize Otoha’s overwhelming presence when performing is great too. It’s crazy how far CGI’s come!

Very good first episode, excited for more.

Found Kudelia's ancestor.... :' ) CGI looks a little too much 60FPS, if that makes any sense. If these two (and anyone else that joins the band) wants to get the pressures of living in a birdcage(yeah, I saw the symbolism) by shredding as fast as they can, that's fine, but hopefully, they'll make something more than just thrash.

That was awesome... This is one of the 3 seasonal shows I plan on watching during Spring 2025 so I was sure that this would be great, but it was even better than what I expected. This is going to be another great band anime if nothing gets messed up in future episodes.

The most important thing a music anime has to do is for the music and visuals do the talking when the instruments are being played, and this show does just that. It's even better than Bocchi in this regard, in my opinion. There's a lot of energy being given off here, to the point where you get the sense that these girls want to kill each other. This is probably thanks to the BAND-MAID mo-cap. Speaking of mo-cap, the CGI in this anime is solid and doesn't put me off at all.

The voice acting is also insane. I feel like what we've seen is only a portion of what's to come; I assume the band members will be screaming at each other with far more intensity when they know each other more.

What a great first episode. Guess I was right to pick this for FAL.

@Marinate1016 LMAOOOO Imagine declaring a show that just premiered, anime of the season already. You could have just said "Wow, this could be a contender for anime of the season!" instead of calling something THIS VERY EARLY. Dude, chill, the season just began. Take a seat will ya? Learn how to properly criticize something instead of writing a book chapter long of excessively positive praising of a series. That's not how you judge an anime.

Don’t care didn’t ask aots also holy fucking patronising you sound like a loser getting this upset over someone’s opinion on a cartoon. Make your own list idc.

super promising first episode :D ahhhh i loved lilisa and otoha's first meeting with all the rose detailing and lilisa's enchanted monologue ( Λ΅> α΄— <Λ΅ )

with lilisa's flashbacks and the scene when she was at home i can sense that there's going to be some family drama in the future so im curious how that'll play out O.O also, the great cinematography and character designs stood out me too ! the opening shots in particular rlly helped establish the all-girls' school setting. speaking of girls schools loved all the class-s motifs like the shot of the greenhouse with two girls standing super close to each other O Μ« o, the school's european architecture, and lilisa and otoha's popularity :D

soooo excited to see how lilisa and otoha's relationship progresses especially after lilisa called otoha her lifelong partner in this episode's final scene :)

What a disappointment... an anime about a very special thing, but every time that specific thing you're watching it for happens, the quality drops massively to poor 3DCG. If the anime turns 3D every time instruments are played, then they should have just made it with 3DCG in the first place and focused on stylizing it well like Girls Band Cry did. Everyone referring to this as a 'new GBC' is frankly insulting GBC.

The only good part of this anime are the expressions the characters make and that a few random scenes in the drawn animation are really beautiful. Apart from that, it's honestly lazy. If they were going to make the scenes where instruments are played in 3DCG then they could of at least stylized those parts differently from the rest of the anime, making them like an AMV of sorts rather than shamelessly attempting to copy the drawn animation in hopes you might not notice or care.

Despite the main character's sacrilege to twintails, I was honestly looking forward to this; however, after such a display in the first episode, I can't expect it to improve, though I really hope it does.

I loved this first episode. I knew I was right as soon as I saw the trailer!

The final duel was epic. It seems Lilisa's father not only taught her how to defy gravity with her hair, but also how to play the guitar. Something must have happened to him—either he passed away or he abandoned her—and it affected her so much that she stopped playing. On the other hand, Otoha is totally unhinged and extremely competitive. I'm going to love how this pair interacts with the other girls who join the group.

Finally, a decent premiere to watch this season! I really hope it maintains this level of quality.

Well, at least it's not pure pop. I have a suspicion that the writers and producers in Japan are too weak to shoot and broadcast something like Arch Enemy. They already consider normal rock and a little bit of heavy as something wow heavy. There aren't that many good Japanese heavy projects and I couldn't think of any off the top of my head.

@detarameMAL K-ON is about cute girls doing cute things. Eating cakes, talking, sometimes making music. An anime about girls who also play music. That's not the main focus. In Bocchi, it's not about the performance and the music, it's about what's around it. Girls hanging out.
I think it's hard to tell from the first episode, but there will be more music and less partying. That's not for sure, though. If it's K-ON quality, it'll be really cool. And before Bocchi, there was nothing that came close to K-ON. And there still isn't. I would still prefer dudes playing music, girls playing music is such a niche, not my fetish.

@GangsterCat Completely normal , sub all claims to the translators, censorship well as always pissed off, but what to do, although in the scene only one problem rag on Lilisa, the pose is good, but this slave clothes all spoils, it can easily be replaced by something suitable for the theme, even the same vines, which are shown in the frame and everything would be excellent.

It’s the heavy metal tale of a double life. Do you imagine this anime more as a comedic slice-of-life where hijinks ensue, or a more heartfelt exploration of self-discovery and identity?
This could be an anime brimming with humor, drama, heartfelt moments, and epic concerts that leave the audience wanting more. What style would you imagine for their performances—something edgy and theatrical, or more stripped-down with emotional intensity?

I don't expect this kind of behaviour in a ojousama school

Holy fuck... FUCK YEAH! I'm sold already man.

I already knew what this show was gonna be about and already saw some images and one of the trailers, but Otoha popping off still had my jaw dropped like crazy, Goddamn girl.

Really perfect time for me to become a BAND-MAID fan thanks to Zenshuu last season. It's really cool that they aren't just doing the OP, they're doing the mocap as well for the performances.

Some really good visualizations as well, firstly the beginning of the episode, switching between gokigenyou and Otoha going ham. Then there's also the birdcage, which is well, a little too on the nose, but still cool.

Lilisa's hair is fucking crazy though lmao.

I cannot wait for more.
