Prob my fav episode. Direction was all over the place, but that's what I liked about it. Refreshing to see that type of direction for an anime like this. And to top it all off with that ending.

Man I keep saying this every week and will probably say this for the finale next week, but this has the best design and art production of almost any shoujo anime I have watched in the last 5+ years. And that is for the best as the art production is what is carrying this frustrating story. I am sorry, but at this point even Kyotaro from The Dangers in My Heart (shounen equivalent of Uka) had grown at least a little more self-esteem and common sense.

On another note: I can’t say if the art style was a homage to Revolutionary Girl Utena or Monogatari, but I really enjoyed it nonetheless.

Very bad episode. It was so bad that I even cried from frustration, but don't get me wrong, it's not Honey Lemon Soda's fault, it's JC Staff proving that it's one of the worst animation studios out there nowadays. How is it possible that they are going to damage such important events for anime as they did with this episode? They are simply unforgivable, although I thank them, thanks to their horrible work I will go to see the manga and enjoy it in a good way, since JC didn't know how to make such a nice story.

basically sharing my same thoughts on other forums but, This episode was very chaotic, epsically visually. I felt like there was so many different directions the animation went. I see why people said this gave Monogatari vibes, but in my opinion, i felt like the animation was constantly switching from something good, to something rushed, to something experimental to keep viewers watching, it felt all over the place. the grid cloud aesthetic was nice though.

With the story in this episode, it is good for how it focuses on uka finally building up the courage to admit her feelings to kai, and the kiss was cute, but it still follows the biggest problem of this show, kai. Like kai, you clearly been interested in uka since several episodes, but why are you making her be the one to confess? you clearly know she's interested in you at the least, but like you can also confess to her you know, it doesn't have to just her. This is esp the case where in this esp where kai passes on uka's inital thoughts (when uka lied about what her type is), rushes to her aid, and then presses her on her true feelings. Like you can't be upset about her not being confident when you're not telling your true feelings too.

Also are we ignoring the fact that he works for a shady host club? and before anyone says, ik its a karoke place, but karoke is a common front where a lot of shady host clubs operates besides bars/clubs. And before someone else says, yes ik it does not show kai doing those shady activities explicity, but he clearly been seen hanging with the same guys who are engaging in these shady activities. and i agree with what someone else said for last episode, he's prolly working there cus some family issue, but i need to see that, cus without it, it does not help your case kai.

What did I even watch, this felt like an Evangelion mindfuck episode that also somehow got less budget than ep25/26. Kai's kiss was literally a moving PNG.

Literally felt like I was in a fever dream through the entire episode imao. I'm still trying to process wtf just happened.

But I guess that was the intention of the episode -- every event felt like a dream, to the point where Uka even doubted Kai's kiss as a 'dream,' which is a fine detail! Overall pretty decent adaption! Never thought I would feel like this in a shoujo like Honey Lemon Soda !!

Was this episode directed by someone else? The animation style was the same, but the direction seemed so different! The words that appeared on the floor mimicking a relay race, the color effects when the baton was passed, the unique framing of the characters - such as when Miura appeared tied up - were incredible.

Uka's inner monologue, which served as a profound self-reflection. She wonders if it's okay to fall in love with Miura, not just because he helped her, but because she's really attracted to him. At the same time, she fears that someone as eccentric as Miura will not reciprocate her feelings. Throughout the episode, she keeps thinking about it until she realizes that if she doesn't express what she feels, her mind will never be at peace. More importantly, she now wants to help him, whether as a friend or something more. And well... we saw how it turned out FINALLY! YES! I screamed with excitement when I saw that kiss.

P.S.: A big kudos to Uka's friends: Ayumi, Tao, Moka and Yuru. They were amazing, supporting her from the moment they found out she liked Miura and during the race. Also, their reactions were hilarious. I hope the story takes its time to delve deeper into them.

@d2rkest Agreed! I immediately went to check after the episode ended, it's this guy! He also did the storyboard and was the episode director for episode 6, although I can't remember what that episode was like lol. Looks like he's been around for a long time!

Ngl, the writing in this feels rather juvenile imo, and it makes sense considering the manga is serialized in Ribon, which targets more of a younger female (elementary to middle school). For example, I can't imagine how desperate a high school girl would have to be to take off her shirt during a school event in order to look at the back of her shirt...even if she was wearing a camisole under, that's really not normal behavior ^^; But anyways, that's not to say that I haven't liked some manga from Ribon back in high school.

The direction in this episode was really fun, which made it actually enjoyable to watch despite the fast story pacing, props to Oohata Kiyotaka! I'll be watching out for this guy's name from now on.

ayyy lets goooo! We finally see them together and Ishimori confess her feelings, even if she was half asleep and thinking that she was dreaming. Such a good anime man this is why I don't bother not watching something that has a low score.. easily an 8 for me.

For a few minutes, I thought I was watching Monogatari, but I had to remind myself that this was Honey Lemon Soda. It won't be to everyone's tastes, but the wacky animation style was pretty cool to see. It did make Marin's rejection scene funnier than it should've been! XD

Once again, Uka's character development has been very impressive, especially when she stood up to the bullies who bound and gagged Kai and locked him in the storage room and attacked them with kind responses that left them feeling disturbed and confused. Not only that, but I never expected her to be a quick sprinter, which helped a lot during the sports day track relay.

The best moment was saved for last, fittingly, as while she was recovering in the infirmary, Miura went in to kiss her on the lips while she kept on thinking, in a daze, that what was happening was simply a dream. It'll be very interesting to see what happens next between the two of them as the final episode beckons.

I just rewatched the episode to give it a proper shot, since I didn't expect this slow anime to suddenly drop an episode like this and watching it half asleep late at night is not fair so to say. The animation is awful, regardless of direction choices, there are tons of slideshows and some cheap cgi shots, lazy animation all around. The direciton itself is too out of place for this anime. Not gonna say that it's good or bad, I could see it working in another anime, preferably in a movie, but that's about it. The pace is way too fast, the content is good but it's just insanely butchered

it's one of the most interesting shoujo episodes in recent times for sure, but that doesn't mean it's good, not even remotely, but it's cool that they decided to experiment with the direction

Man, what is with that airplane? It's like an intrusive thought! LOL

there might be more to it, it seemed like the plane represents miura and the bird represents ishimori, but can't really put my finger on what it symbolizes exactly (if it's that deep at all)

It’s fun when they bring in guest directors, but the style of this episode was so different from the previous ones that it felt wrong. It’s like they found out they have a lot of money left in their budget but only a couple episodes left, so they just jammed as many flashy transitions in as they could. It was really distracting me from the plot.

I can understand why a lot of people were put off by the episode; the direction had to be jarring after many episodes of largely languishing in Uka's headspace. However, like the airplane symbolism, she's taking off, to where she can be not only alongside Kai, but perhaps even surpass him. I'm sure she'll take a temporary regression while she feels out her place in Kai's universe, but she'll figure it out.

Is this real ep or imagination this feels like x1000 fasten some events like its not even real.
@Sekiro94 This is how I felt as well. The animation cuts, tension, gags, speed and style of this ep was so different from the first 10 eps I felt like I was watching a different anime.

Honestly I prefer the style of this episode and wish the slow gentleness of the first 10 and the quick, exciting pace of this episode were melded more throughout the series. I did enjoy this episode a lot though, especially the animation.

Seems like some production mishaps or drama mustve happened because I would be shocked if they meant for the pace to change so much at the end of the series...

I though ep 6 was a one time thing and that we were going to be okay after that. But here we go, they pulled the "episode 6-move" again, aka "out of budget episode" and in the most important episode as well..
The airplane from ep 6 is back, it passed like 4 times, but this time we also have a road filled with letters as well. They showed that like 10 times.
Not to mention sloppy animation, trying to animate as little as possible by showing random stuff, or by coloring everything but the MC in a single color..
Way to ruin the most important episode.

Wtf is this garbage? Terrible pacing and animation, did anyone even direct this? Is the budget gone? Couldn't even get through half an episode with how disjointed and inconsistent it was. What the hell happened. This was one of my most looked forward to anime this season and this episode just shattered the expectations I had built up for it. Literal trash.

Okay, it was a lot better and more on-pace/style in the second half. Still felt kind of rushed. But the end...did she say that out loud? Or did he just kiss her cause she started crying? I'm assuming it's clearer in the source material.

@casilo Oh do not worry, I do get it. They are out of budget. With the ways I mentioned above, they saved money on animating.
Out of 11 episodes, this happened only twice.
What a shame that one of those, was the most important episode they did it to. :/

Yikes. This episode reminded me a bit of episode 6 - there was some interesting cinematography and creative directing, but the pacing and animation was god-awful. Kai didn't look like Kai in many of the scenes. Everything that happened this episode was breezed through and nothing was fleshed out. We started the episode with Kai being confessed to, to Uka being dragged into going to karaoke, to preparation for the school field day, to Uka finding Kai tied up, to Uka running in the race, to Uka waking up in a bed and confessing to Kai. And what's up with all these school bullies and messed up mob characters?

I liked the episode overall, but it felt oddly surreal and even fever dream-like at times. I mean, they literally threw in a Space Odyssey homage into Uka's running scene and directed the forsed karaoke club visit as a drug-fueled bad trip?

Uka witnessing Miura's popularity, but at the same time, also wanting to know what's he into. While Marin is quite the joke to take things literally, Uka always having Miura to save her, this is but only the extent of their relationship as caretaker and carer from the boy's POV, but Uka will not relent on chasing her love down, even if on normal days like field day. And others where she just does things that other people told her to and not to, so there's defintely a line needed to be drawn on this.

Even on field day, Uka finding herself drawn to Miura all the more, no matter where he is, and having her heart now steeled and full of desires, her world is now made in stone that she cannot deny her feelings for Miura. And to him, he echoes her call that she's clearly in love, sealing her reality dream with a kiss.

Be it past or new bullies, Uka now stands strong, because her protector is the love of her life.

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).
