@Jhacob How is it cheap? It's not a cash grab. It has amazing visuals, the voice acting is great, nothing says cheap here to me.
@CancerKaiju For me it's poor, cheap script, i like the design, but the animation is cheap (the fight on the roof is the best example), use of cheap established characters, and more... in my opinion if this didn't have the DC name on it it would go completely unnoticed.
I don't have many complaints, except for Joker's voice in the Japanese version. I would have preferred a style more similar to Accelerator from the "Toaru Majutsu no Index" series. I think Nobuhiko Okamoto could have given it that special touch; his performance reminds me more of the mad scientist from "Steins;Gate." Even so, I appreciate the anime.
I haven't watched a DC show in years so I was a bit hesitant in my start of watching this series. So far the 1st episode was ok and I'm mostly watching for Harley.
While I understand that the black lady, Amanda, forced the opening of the portal to another world I'm not sure if the 5 prisoners will still need to follow her orders and if the bombs in their necks are still active, guess those ?s may be answered in future episodes.
as someone who has consumed close to no DC content I’m sure real fans of that world will appreciate and catch more than I will watching this
having said that—it looks like a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to watching more, I’m especially drawn in by it being an isekai even though I’m not a huge fan of the genre
People preach about dubbed foreign movie, cartoon, etc feels disgusting and all, but..
DC characters animated with Jap style & Jap dub? feels gross man..
Mn... Well, to start I'm not a Batman fan and I've never watched Suicide Squad. With the exception of pretty much any old school Harley and Joker, I'm not super familiar with these characters. That being said, they should probably be able to stand on their own without knowing their entire lore. And I did get the gist of them. However... I think it's not really enough to just have an isekai. The only real thing we have to look forward to is figuring out what their mission is and figuring out what the world they're in is all about, but as it is right now... it's a pretty generic-looking world that I'm not super interested in learning about in the first place, and I don't actually care too much about their mission. Had Adam not perished, then perhaps he could have helped steer things in a proper direction, but instead we have... well... I honestly don't really know what I'm supposed to look forward to yet. I'm not exactly an isekai fan either, but of the ones I felt worked, I think there's usually an element of wanting to see how things progress in the world the characters are in. This episode didn't really give any of that. With me not being a Batman fan and not being an isekai fan, I do wonder why the heck I tried this out, but in the end I guess I just wanted to try something different. We'll see how it all goes I guess.
Interesting first episode... I'm not a fan of DC but I do know Harley Quinn and Joker is a famous villain.
Harley Quinn look so pretty~ and that Japan mask girl... She really look young... like a teenager..
Watching this because of Akira Amano sensei character design~
At first I was like "Man what a stupid idea!", then I remembered that Japan made many top tier anime based on stupid concepts with brilliant executions.
My conclusion is:"Isekai Suicide Squad" is mid: The anime is not good nor bad.
Its biggest flaws is its lazyness: if you have seen the James Gun's movie you are already failiar with the characters and and the concept.
I mean, with a rogue gallery as rich as DC's, they took EXACTLY the sames characters as in the movies (excep for Clayface who, for me, is the best addon of the anime, with Jun Fukuyama at his best... like always).
The plot lacks imagination: the situations are pretty basic and the abilities of the Suicide Squad are largely underused.
If I could have choose another team, it would have be:
Bane for the muscles
Parasite for the power versatility (imgine an arrogant overpowered hero sucked out of his powers and skills)
Dr Sivanna to put science in this world of magic
Killer Frost for free violence
Black Hand to have a frightening and charismatic leader
However the show if far from boring and it is quite pleasant to follow the squad's adventure. The acting is very good and the animation is correct for this kind of project.
This fucker just called Alice in Wonderland an Isekai. Kill me please...
The animation is absolutely FANTASTIC! Did you that fucking DRAGON BRO?!?!?! That's like one of the best fucking dragons ever animated. Also that fight scene between Harley and that swordswoman was amazingly choreographed and animated. Polished af. The Scriptwriter knew what they were doing. Also is that MY BOI DIO for Peacemaker?!!!! I don't even know who the fuck peacemaker is but I'm all in for him to sweep this new world. They went over the top for this pilot episode. I hope they have the budget to keep this up.
Harley Quinn, who's at the front and center of it all, is great. Kind of too good though for everything else, which, for lack of a better term at the moment, is feeling pretty mid. Definitely do understand that sub-7 score now. Will watch at least a couple more episodes, but it doesn't look like it'll get any better, which is rather disappointing
Warner Bros wanted to expand their anime verse with this season I suppose. Don't know how successful Ninja Batman was, but here we have another batch of DC characters to bolster the roster.
There's something about Harley's stare a minute into the show that screams not giving an f. Completely down for it, that one moment captures her very essence.
I didn't expect Joker to be owning the piano like this out the gate, but I can respect the skill. That, and duo's seemingly understanding the attraction of another world.
Harley is 100% waifu material. The exchange in front of the bar was weirdly.. sweet. In a Joker + Harley kind of way. You know, I've seen these characters on the big screen in their 3D counterparts and I wasn't crazy for em. But now that they're in this anime.. I don't know what to do with that lol.
Side Note: Waller not flinching while shrapnel flew by her face was cold
The fights were smooth, that's for sure. Harley fights as unorthodox as she typically does, and with goons they're easy to play with. Joker seems an inch less worse than his 3D counterpart. And they got that window into the other world that they spoke about.
I can only clap with the kick Harley gave. She knew the weak spot.
A second clap mentioning Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings, Harley knows things. But they do iron out the basics of what they plan on doing with this first ep.
Just one ep in, but I can see the setup being DC enters GATE. I'm down to see Harley kick some ass tho. The fact they made Clayface the smooth guy tho, talk about spicy. He even knows isekai.
Dang dat was actually pretty fun, hmm and the va's sound good too o.o
Behold of my awesomeness~
controversial and/or sensitive topics likely devolve into the same repetitive, derogatory, abusive, and harassing comments can no longer be posted.
But my feels.
I'm not sure exactly where my negative feeling for this is coming from, but it is nice. I enjoyed Joker's lines as made me think of the Joker movie (which I downgraded a lot for being a blatant cigarette advertisement, but otherwise great!), Harley is great as usual, and character interactions seem fine. The boss lady really pisses me off, I can't remember, was she deemed the bad guy in the movies?
Also the Japanese Samurai, is she from this other world? What the hell was the mission?! Is the squad dead if don't get contact in 72 hours or?????
It's a nice cross over. Isekai's have been getting milked because people love them, so this anime of suicide squad getting isekai'd is smart, other super heroes like flash, green lantern, superman et cetera, would just be dumb.
Wit Studio will be doing The One Piece so I'm paying attention to their style and it feels very unique, not sure if I like it, but it has good traits. Using this to set my expectations for that adaptation.
4/5, something was off for me, don't like boss lady, Isekai is... but love characters and looking forward to.
Primeiro episódio bem redondinho, eu gostei do que pode ser o futuro do anime. Sempre imaginei o que aconteceria se colocássemos personagens de filmes em um mundo isekai
Watching this in the English dub because it'll be weird listening to DC characters in Japanese, Harley Quinn is great.
For a second I forgot the series was called "Isekai" lol.
So far it's alright, doesn't look like it's gonna be too serious but just some silly crossover with a lot of fighting scenes.
It's just sexist.
It's a one-man rule with a lack of responsibility for actions, lack of transparency in decision-making, change, alternative institutions, and an overconcentration of power. These are the things that lead to what you call evil. Neither the Queen nor Amanda are like this because of their personalities; it's simply how the system is structured. Rather, both the Queen and Amanda Waller have tailored their positions to suit themselves.
This is not a characteristic of women or men. Real history is full of men doing wild and nightmarish things. Guys like Pol Pot come to mind. There have been fewer women who have caused trouble, but only because there have been fewer women in leadership positions.
Enlightened absolutism was discredited a long time ago. In such a system, the ruler must be incredibly intelligent, selfless, and capable of neglecting his own interests for the common good while somehow magically knowing, understanding, and taking into account the interests of different groups in society. Humans are ill-suited for that. It doesn't matter whether the ruler is a man or a woman.
So, if you're hearing cries that women shouldn't be given power... I don't know. You found what you were looking for. You wanted confirmation of your sexist thoughts; you found it. You should rephrase that to "I'm a sexist. Every episode screams at me that women in power are evil." That would be more accurate.
As far as I'm concerned, Amanda Waller is being self-indulgent in this anime. She's pushing a questionable project and covering up her mistakes and miscalculations by throwing more bodies into the mix. For example, the first teams didn't have timers on their bombs. Her attitude toward her staff is also of special note. No matter who she thinks she is, her methods and quality of decision-making are poor. She is not held accountable; no one asks her how many people she has killed in the process. She also covers up and exploits corruption. Amanda is an example of a power-mad manager who has taken over the organization and acts in her own interests. Every dictator justifies his actions with patriotism and the good of the people.
At the beginning of their journey, rulers are usually normal people. But after staying in power for many years, having learned impunity and tasted power, they begin to lose their sense of self-restraint and become overconfident. All sorts of thoughts come to mind: "I know exactly how to help my people. All these fools are in my way! Can't they see the greatness of my plans?" These are the thoughts of every first dictator. Ceaușescu thought he was doing good until his last breath. Listen to what he said at his trial before he was executed.
The title itself is the problem. "Ruler." It's too complicated. There are many temptations. There are thousands of thinking traps.
These are solved through alternating power, elections, collegial governance, and institutions that are independent of each other. The proverbial checks and balances. The basic logic is to not give anyone much power. Decentralization is key.
Switzerland is an example of a country that has successfully practiced this approach. They have been doing so for hundreds of years with no problems.
Around 10:00 of the first episode. She clearly forces the warden to commit malfeasance in office. It also covers up the corruption. She uses it for leverage. What's that? Patriotism? Is it patriotic to keep a corrupt man in office just because you have dirt on him? Using him to run your operation? Indeed, that is definitely patriotism and in the interests of the US. If everything was coordinated, as she says, there would be a simple, boring transfer of prisoners from the prison to her department. There would be no need for compromises.
15:22, she threatens to kill Deadshot's daughter. That's probably patriotism. Children are definitely in charge of their parents.
At the beginning of the first episode, Amanda clearly disregards safety and the possibility of catastrophic consequences. Her project is more important to her than the deaths of her staff and the loss of valuable equipment. In reality, nitwits who chase deadlines and forget about safety and personnel—those who care more about achievement to show off to their superiors—get something like the accident at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in 1980.
But it's just a funny cartoon; a couple of crates got smashed and the glass cracked. She definitely does not violate safety protocols, pressure the staff, or give orders personally. She's not arrogant at all.
I'm not talking about the quality of her briefings. It's an obey-or-die situation. If you don't obey, I'll kill your family.
This is definitely not the arrogance of a person in a secret department who has been left unchecked and has been given a lot of power.
