I'm writing this from the sunny land of California, where it is currently raining, of all things. I've noticed that at the slightest sign of rain, some people here dress up in complete raingear- boots, poncho, umbrella. My pacific nw pride forces me to walk around in normal clothing regardless of rainfall. Actually, I rather enjoy the feeling of freezing rain dripping from my hair, along with the numbing sensation of being drenched to the skin.

What about the rest of you?

When it's wet. Sometimes that tiny invisible rain makes everything wet and horrible. Sometimes the heaviest apocalypse is so heavy that it's irrelevant to have an umbrella....

Umbrellas are for pansies!! >:O

No, but really, very rarely. Like... the only time i remember using an umbrella was when it was raining my senior prom. Otherwise, the rain is fun :D

Oh, I'm in CA too and it's pretty funny seeing everyone wimp out at some rain and thunder at school. They even kept us in our classroom for a bit because the rain was becoming "dangerous."
Anyways I tend to use my umbrella when it's enough to soak you through, and laugh at the people around me panicking and getting drenched >:D

I never carry around an umbrella and certainly never use one. If it starts pouring, I just get soaked; probably because I don't care enough to mind. It dries of in like 5 minutes once I get indoors anyways.

Somewhere between a light drizzle and a steady downpour. If it's just a short walk in a light drizzle I won't use an umbrella, but if it's any sort of distance I will.

That depends.

If it's drizzling and I don't have a long way to walk, I just walk fast. If I have a long way to go and I care about the way my hair looks that day I will use a hood, if I don't have one I'll use an umbrella.

I'll definitely use an umbrella if it's past the drizzle part. :B

I'm from Canada, where it's cold for pretty much 2/3 of the year, or not more. So when it starts raining it gets very, very cold and I hate the cold, and being wet just makes it worse. :<

I do like it when it's raining in the summer though, just after being really hot. I'll walk outside as long as there's no thunder :B

Oh, I have an uncle there who lives in Brampton, Toronto. I was on vacation visiting him and one day, sometime around august (2008), it was raining a lot, so I went outside just to enjoy the rain for a few minutes, until I saw a sudden lighting strike near by. I ran like hell and got inside the house. It really freaked me out!

Pfft. Umbrellas. I live in a city where it rains all the time the only time I ever use an umbrella is when it's showering.

Totally off in both cases, I live in Southwestern Ontario. Lol.

But, it still gets cold when it rains, and since the summer of 2005, which was really warm and awesome, we haven't had a summer that hasn't been ridiculously rainy and cold (14 fucking degrees? COME ON) for at least four out of eight weeks...

I don't really like rain so I don't like walking in it and getting wet. I'll use an umbrella if there's a light drizzle. It rarely rains here though so I don't have to worry about it very often. :P

The light drizzle is always my sign to pull out that umbrella. Or else, my hair frizzes. It still does even if the water doesn't touch it because it get's all wet and humid, but with an umbrella it's less wet!

studies show that light drizzle is the riskiest intensity of rain by the sickness probability, as this intensity is hidden yet the most penetrating to your immune system in contrast to heavy rain, thus use a hood/umbrella on those circumstances...and in stable rain...

yet remember that in high intensity typhoon/hurricane, wielding umbrella is small to almost no use...it just drastically destabilizing your aerodynamic resistance that could pull you more to danger once wind pulls in...

On the topic of the CA rains in particular, listening to the natives talk like the end is nigh is pretty great. There are parts of the state that get real winters, but this ain't them.

If I am alone, I will never use an umbrella. Mostly because I don't want to carry it around. However, if I am out with someone else, I may bring one depending on the person.

I haven't had an umbrella for at least twenty years. I'd kinda like another one, but I'm not entirely sure what to buy. I dislike those little foldy cheapo ones I see everywhere. :( I want something a bit sturdier, it'd make life easier since I live in an area that gets pretty decent winds, and those tiny popout ones are so flimsy.

well, i live in ireland, so we get buckets of rain everyday. generally il only whip out the umbrella if its pouring rain out and its not windy. If its windy, the umbrella will be of no use whatsoever.

Otherwise, screw it. its only water!

If my umbrella didn't break within a couple weeks of buying it, I'd use my umbrella if I were walking around outside. I would also bring it out at the first sign of rain, ie "Light drizzle" because once that happened in 5 minutes it will be raining really hard. I need to buy a new umbrella.. Maybe tomorrow.

I always carry a small umbrella in my bag.

and i pull it out instantly when i fell that it's starting to rain.

Long wet hair = Not cool.
Glasses with water drops on lenses = Definately not cool.
Wet clothes = Not cool.

And i also love the voice of the pouring rain on your umbrella.

But sometimes im in the mood just to stand in the rain without umbrella, it's feel nice.
