The great thing about Berserk is that is not just a revenge story; it started like that, but became much more than that, and the bigger themes in the story never cease to being explored and expanded.

what the fuck
I mean, I expected Griffith to screw Guts over at some point but... not like this. This was so much more. It's genuinely impressive how much just went to shit. This whole season was a build-up simply to give Guts a reason for revenge. I don't think any show has left me so dumbfounded before.

Just finished this tonight and the ending felt incomplete. I was glad to see that guts survived and was setting out on his journey but I feel like I have so many unanswered questions. I have way more questions now than answers.

The characters in this show were incredible and I really felt a connection with guts as we progressed with him through the season and watched him grow and change.

Where do I go from here after watching the 1997 season? Is there a recommended watch order? Was this it?

The world building was fantastic and the characters were so interesting. Are there any other anime that can replicate what this show was able to do? What other series are similar in it's scope?

This is a dark and twisted episode. I loved it. The animation throughout the series has sometimes been shoddy, but OLM went all out for this one. I'm picking up some H.R. Giger vibes in this hellscape.

The ending does leave something to be desired... feels more like the last page of a manga chapter than the end to an anime series.

I'm gonna reread the Black Swordsman arc now that I'm done watching this. Should be quite a different experience this time around.

One of the most intense, dramatic and tragic finales in the history of anime.

Berserk anime adaptation from 1997 was a marvelous ride. Sure, it differed from the source material in many places, but it was able to deliver consistent and believable story that was pretty much faithful to the spirit and atmosphere presented in the manga; same goes with events we know from the source material.

RIP Kentaro Miura. Thanks to your brilliant manga we could receive such awesome anime.

This episode got me into the manga.

With that cliff hanger of an ending, I knew I had to see it all to the end.

The pain of Guts screaming in agony will forever haunt me.
It's heart breaking seeing his friendship with Griffith broken and the one person that he loves get absolutely violated.

I give this one 10 Behelits out of 10

I knew this was going to happen but I was burned and needed something that I knew I liked but yet couldnt bring myself into liking this, already knowing the manga and how this arc plays, I felt the production values were low, animation quality, repetitive OST and a weird rushed pace, Golden Age is my favorite part of Berserk before it becomes a laughable fantasy fest, there were some good stuff in the adaptation (they didnt put Tinkerbell in the 1st episode) but yet I cannot recommend it, also Judeau is a top character and Casca is an annoying scumbag, I wish she had died there... Anyways 4/10, this didnt bring me any pleasure, now is time for GITS SAC which is already starting to feel painfully mediocre.

Best fantasy anime ever created, good 90s anime feel. I think it's comparable to the manga visually, obviously leaves you wanting more by the end of the anime since there is 100 plus chapters in the manga after the animes ending. But I prefer this over the movies and very disappointing 2016/2017 adaptations.

Was it actually not clear to you that Casca was being raped or do you just consider that to be cheating anyway? I don't think they could've done much to make it clearer without getting a regulatory smackdown.

This is an amazing take. "The stuff that Berserk is famous for is actually silly and bad. Also, the rape victim is a scumbag that should die for no reason." Just amazing analysis.

Having seen basically every other Berserk media its odd that I came to this one last. Overall its smartly made and definitely holds up in a sub-genre (Berserk adaptations) littered with garbage. The OST is a bit limited but that main theme really captures the forlorn feeling of the Golden Age Arc. The animation starts off relatively cheap but they clearly saved their budget for the important stuff and they don't let the audience down on the key parts. The final few episodes really delivered. However, even knowing the series ends on a cliffhanger I was shocked at how abrupt the ending actually was. And its kind of interesting how deliberately the animators worked to avoid as much supernatural stuff as possible before the end.

watched this entire series in a week because my bf is a huge elden ring/ dark souls fan and I LOVED THIS.
the ending was truly kinda meh, but i guess the manga wasn't finished at the time so i get it.
Casca is my queen, so that final scene with her tore me a part. :'(
overall amazing series that i was not expecting to really ever see, very nice surprise!!!

What an incredible episode! I'm not the biggest fan of horror but this was so amazing.
Everyone (almost) died in brutal ways. Guts was forced to see the worst thing ever in front of his eyes (or his remaining eye).
Griffith is pure evil after the Eclipse, the eviliest man ever lived.
Of course they cut a lot of stuff, great scenes with Zodd, something is censored but I think it's easy to understand what happens.
For me this anime adaptation is a 9/10, great but not perfect. It has a lot of amazing episodes but I feel some of the material they cut off was great. Especially Zodd and his rival.
Of course the recommendation is always the same: read the manga. What a classic!

Quite the unfortunate cliffhanger scene to end this on and although this old adaptation cut some content (Donovan) and was not as good as the manga, still quite the banger in capturing the epicness of Berserk and show why it is considered a classic.

With this ending, I can hardly say I liked the episode.😅 However, despite my preferences, I admit this story has depth and helped me learn some important things, which is why I keep it among my favorite anime.
