Watching Jujutsu Kaisen has destroyed my standards for anime and now every other new action show looks trash

For me personally, because I've seen so much anime, I thought Jujutsu Kaisen was painfully underwhelming and uninteresting. Definitely try to expand your horizons, you may be surprised in what you find. Keep in mind that visuals aren't everything. |

this has happened to me with berserk and with many anime that are considered the fathers of seinen. honestly this is because a fight becomes so well done so very well adapted that when you see an anime that is made to be average or to simply entertain at the very least. it bores you so much that you no longer see anime as enjoyable but as more boring. it's like watching chapter 14 of berserk and then watching the second chapter of K ON. they are two completely different things and one bores you more than the other. this can be solved by watching a lot more anime and getting used to the typical genres and not just one. sincerely I see a little bit of everything although I love seinen |

JJK is another Demon Slayer for me, it looks good but that carries it. The fights and animation are nice, but everything else sucks. I couldn't even begin to tell you what's going on in either JJK or Demon Slayer. I still rate them kind of highly because they are enjoyable to watch, but they're far from being something I would praise very much. |

JJK is great and all.... but nothing can ever truly be so good that everything in comparsion looks trash. i will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you meant no anime has action as good as jjk, and that is actually pretty reasonable. I suggest trying Akudama drive, It's clearly a small step below in terms of budget, but the style and talent is there. Mob psycho 100 is another option, s2 in particular is probably the best looking tv anime i have seen when it comes to action. ep5s2 is just orgasmic for animations fans. similar things can be said about one punch man s1. You could also just say fuck it and watch Either spiderverse, arcane or castlevania. |

Jujutsu Kaisan of all anime lol. If you named Vinland Saga or Attack on Titan I would have agreed.
@ZXEAN Hes talking about action though. and i argue that overall jjk beats both of these in terms of action. AOT s1-3 would be at least comparable, but i still wouldn't put it above jjk in terms of action. |

There are plenty more good anime. I understand that feeling when you have reached that point of satisfaction and can't bring yourself to like or watch other anime, but that will eventually passed through times. Sure, nothing can beat it but as time goes by, there will be anime that become attractive to you as you discover more and more |

"Watching Jujutsu Kaisen has destroyed my standards for anime and now every other show looks trash"
1. OP was conditioned to like trash by Jujutsu Kaisen?
This is what I get from this title...how about "has heightened my standards" or something?
2. Jujutsu Kaisen is just fine, not that much out of the box.
"Spike vs Vincent"
1. Which one? In the church or in the last episode?
2. Those are far from the best animated scenes in the show.

@alshu I said Spike vs Vincent, not Vicious. The fight on the watch tower had some of the best martial arts choreography I have ever seen in an anime. |

When I watched Jujutsu Kaisen I continually had the feeling that I had seen this and that concept here and there before. At the end of the first serie I realized that it happened way to often and that is intentional. Methodologically constructed. It is a collage of the contents that have been more successful in other animes. I can't say it's bad but it's lame. Anyone who hasn't felt this continuously would definitely think it's an amazing show. |

@DarkShame2 Can you recommend me action anime hidden gems with a similar quality to JJK?
@Dragosama A lot of people were blown away by Hitori no Shita season 3 a couple years ago, specifically this fight scene: Of course, flashy fight choreography shouldn't be conflated with animation quality, per se. In many case, much more grounded, realistic movement can require just as much technical proficiency as the most bombastic fight scenes put out by studios like MAPPA and Ufotable. A good example of this would be Gosenzo-sama Banbanzai, a six episode 80s OVA that is generally overlooked despite being directed by Mamoru Oshii. While at first blush, it may seem like a poorly animated production, with very locked down storyboarding and character designs that will often include the joints of the characters drawn in. However, initial impressions like these can be deceiving. Take this cut for example, which was animated entirely by Mitsuo Iso: https://sakugabooru.com/post/show/138213 Notice how the character's move, particularly when it comes to the inertia of their actions. The self-shadowing is also really impressive as well, it's hard for an animator to be able to accurately create that kind of perspective which is why it's something you see ignored a lot in animation, even in stuff like JJK. And of course, given that this had a lot of the big names of the 90s anime industry early in their careers, and how it really solidified this sort of realism movement in the industry post-Akira, I would honestly say that Gosenzo is as important both from an artistic and historical perspecitve as something like JJK. Of course, if you let yourself fall into this mindset that something is your favorite thing, nothing is ever going to top it, and in fact it makes everything look like crap in comparison, you're really just setting yourself up for disappointment. It's a self-fulfilling prophesy, essentially. If you just end up shutting down your ability to think and tie yourself to the idea that "this is the peak of the medium", you're going to end up missing out on or not really appreciating a lot of really well made stuff. |

I also watched the Yuji vs. Chose episode because of the buzz around it but I didn't find it as brilliant as the resounding uproar it had. I felt the same way as you, watching JJK made my expectations of an anime elevate. Because of such a reason I'm only looking forward to the action scenes while having a lower interest in the story and characters. Well, the point of a good fight is not the animation but the drive of the fight in the first place. I don't wanna watch OPM S1, I want to know why Gon did what he did. However that doesn't mean that animation doesn't matter (Seven Deadly Sins knows my point), it matters to an extent. I've already forgotten the beautiful action choreography by Studio WIT in AOT after I watched S4. The storytelling is just that good. The anime industry has got more competitive than before, I'm not sure if it's a product of MAPPA Effect but somehow something has prodded studios to push for better animation. So, lacking shows with good animation will never be a situation since mad talented animators from around the world are making their presence known. These days I've taken a break from watching anime because I've been busy with my studies but also because when I return, I have a newer and fresher perspective to anime and animation. |

The Luffy vs Kaido fights in One Piece are as good as if not better than JJK's animation. For an anime that's been running since 1999 to have animation like this breaks literally all the rules out there. I don't know why more people aren't talking about how great the animation is. Now the story could definitely drag less. But if you aren't watching week to week, it's a lot less terrible. Bleach Thousand Year Blood Arc has the best animation right now. Season 1 blew everyone out of the water and season 2 ended with some real crispy animation. It's nice to know all these years after Yu Yu Hakusho, Studio Pierrot can still animate better than pretty much anybody else. Sometimes. Demon Slayer's Red Light District arc is pretty much the best CGI anime fighting I have ever seen. JJK still hasn't reached that level yet. And with the behind the scenes animator issues, I honestly doubt it will. But I would be happy to be proven incorrect. JJK has pretty fights and MAPPA does CGI well. But I don't see how you can ignore all the little issues the animation has. In season 1 and 2. Sometimes it's literally subpar. Which is fine because these animators are literally killing themselves for our entertainment. Peeing in bottles, skipping showers for days and sleeping at work for weeks to give us SAKUGA. So a couple mistakes now and then are more than ok. Most anime fans with tenure put Mob Psych 100 fights above every other anime. I personally don't put it there, but it is in my top 5. BONES really doesn't miss. Whether you go back to working on Knocking on Heavens Door, fast forward to Darker than Black (the first anime) or watch the last two MHA movies. I don't really put other animation above their work. Everyone else is just hanging out right next to them. I took a peek at your list and you have watched some pretty great animation. I know it's subjective, but I REALLY don't get how you can put JJK on such a high level. But I guess it is what it is. For the record, I don't think I have seen any fights in JJK more impressive than what The God of High School did. From an animation and fight point of view. If you add story and reasons for the fighting into the category, JJK ends up with the overall win. But I still wouldn't put it over Dorohedoro. Another MAPPA anime with amazing animation. If you want my real honest to goodness opinion, I'm currently watching Sailor Moon S and I'm more impressed with the transformation sequences and finishers than I am with JJK's fights. That JJK fight was pretty excellent, and I expect things to get even better if all the manga people are correct. But putting a nothing fight against a nothing character up as the greatest thing ever when the really amazing stuff is yet to come is weird to me. But do you bro. |

@MFDOOMED I appreciate the reply. I think my disappointment with gear 5 was one of the main reasons I posted this. JJK is one of the few action shows that excites me with every episode, I don’t think I have ever been bored watching JJK. But yeah I’ve seen a lot of issues with MAPPA as a company especially with the huge drop in quality from the most recent episode. I feel terrible for the employees slaving their asses off to provide this content. MAPPA needs to drastically reduce the amount projects they take on. I’m surprised you said Sailor moon. @Dragosama Don't forget all caps when you spell the man's name. JJK is appointment television at this point. And with all these manga fans saying Shibuya is one of the best shonen arcs ever, it can only get better from here. There is a famous anime called Revolutionary Girl Utena. Even MAL rates it pretty highly. The director Kinuhiko Ikuhara used to work at Toei and Sailor Moon was his first real deal directors gig. He made the animation incredible. Especially compared to the earlier seasons that focused more on comedy than action. And he made the story dark and mature. Most people consider Sailor Moon S the peak of Moon. It's definitely the highest rated season. Because Sailor Moon is a kids show Toei told the director to knock it off. So he left, created his own team and made Utena. Which made him a part of anime history. Between the pedigree, filler guides that let me skip episodes I don't need to watch, and just curiosity about why people care so much, I gave S a try. And it is pretty excellent. Especially the award winning episode I watched that convinced me to take the plunge. Real Peak anime, even if you barely know who does what or why things are happening. I'm not gonna watch Madoka Magica anytime soon, but Sailor Moon S is pretty legit. Also all those transformation and finisher scenes hype you up the same way a great shonen does. It's exciting even to me, a guy in his 30s. It must have been the shit to people who watched it as kids. I can't help animators but I can thank them for their hard work. |

One Punch Man S1, Demon Slayer S2, Fate Babylonia, Fate Heavens Feel are titles that objectively outclass JJK fights/animation. There are quite a few after that one can debate. Yhwach vs Yamamoto beats any JJK fight. Dragon Ball Super Broly fight is better as well. JJK is just okay at what it does. Not tryin to hate on the OP. To each their own. |

It just has the Demon Slayer effect where pretty compositing can hide the limitations, specially the increase in still frames during Separation. Akudama Drive is a better example of a Pierrot anime that has consistently good animation. |

While not quite on the same level as JJK, I think you should give Takt Op Destiny a try |

JJK is definitely good but I hate the exposition dumps that happen every now and then. Hasn't the author ever heard of "show don't tell"?
@samsince04 Would you believe me if I say that the manga is even worse and actually the anime does skip a lot of explanations ? |

If you find this animation extremely good then you would probably lose your mind after seeing fate or demon slayer.
@FZREMAKE ngl demon slayer can look very bad at places with how much ufotable iver uses digital effects jjk has much cleaner and fluid animation then ufotable works but than again most ppl wont notice it |

OP has a mean anime score of 8.49/10, with almost 400 completed entries, and is claiming that JJK, a crappy, generic shounen has tainted their taste in anime to where nothing is enjoyable anymore. I'm sorry, but I don't believe that for a second, so I'm going to assume this is some form of trolling. I'm not taking anyone with 104 completed shows at 10/10's seriously, no chance. I really recommend you to watch more anime then x13 |

@sabeerareeb Did you remember how they waste a whole 30 minutes to flex with 300 angles and ultra realistic glasses with 40 zooms on Muzan on the infinite caslte or whatever in the first episode of the third season ? It really was peak. |

Try God of high school (same director as jjk s01). Vivy has few good ones too. |

Damn man, all the hate lol, I seriously don't get it. I am with u here, I still didn't watch the latest few episodes of jjk s02 but ur statement's not without merit, I believe. I don't get why people r saying u should watch more anime or explore other genres (when the op is talking abt action anime) and especially so when the op has watched nearly 400 anime and has different genre favs in his profile. Ans how the hell r people even recommending fate(heaven's feel at that),DS and one punch man when the op is talking hand to hand combat, none of these 3 even comes near to jjk 2 in terms of hand to hand fights, those anime are more on flashy big scale fights (and DS s02 fight drags on for nearly 6-7 eps). Well, try God of high school, outcast (I didn't watch it yet though), Chinese anime might have some good ones u r looking for. |
