Askeladd returns! Even if it was just for a moment. I stand the guy but he still didn’t want Thorfinn to fall and be like him. Glad Thorfinn was able to see the light and come back up to begin him journey of true warrior

Askeladd returns! Even if it was for a moment. I still can’t stand the guy but he’s cool af. He never wanted Thorfinn to fall down the deep path and end up like him. I’m glad he was able to talk some sense into him and help him find the light.

Thorfinn has a dark past but he doesn’t deserve to fall down that pit of despair. I’m glad he was able to find himself and start his journey towards the true warrior.

Thors would be proud

UGH, this season and ESPECIALLY the last few episodes have been so good, and I've been really enjoying the current pacing and the drama and everything, but I do kinda miss the spectacle and action from time to time to really take a breather from all the (exceptional and really well-written!!) heavy drama all the time lol. It makes it hard to binge-watch this tbh and the weekly format does really help.

< THE RETURN OF THE GREATEST. ASKELADD >

I love the metaphor of climbing with the weight of those he wronged. To live never forgetting what he has done, but live right knowing and learning from what he did wrong... Beautiful.

Incredibly, this single episode packed so many unforgettable moments that some series don't even hit. This whole episode was phenomenal from beginning to end. Truly a masterpiece.

Respect to Einar for holding his own against those retainers.

Damn, that visions/dreams and ptsd stuff Thorfinn goes through is so vivid and horrifying. The guilt he feels for all his past sins weighs down on him, making living unbearable.

Nice to see Askeladd and Bjorn again even though they were part of Thorfinn's dream.

The Askeladd and Thorfinn moment was extremely good and emotional. Honestly, Askeladd is such a well-written and complex character that I haven't been able to form a permanent opinion of him.

Thankfully they didn't get punished for the fight. Pater is the goat.

Man, this season feels like a totally different story than the first season. Like it feels as of the genre itself has been changed and I'm all here for it. It is surprisingly really good and unexpectedly emotional at moments. Loved this episode.

Such an amazing way to portray Thorfinns inner psychological fight, and how his whole outlook on life has changed. Maybe my favourite episode of the whole show :)

I think the slow pacing has elevated the impact of this episode even more.
Each episode we can see Thorfinn's progression, slowly but surely leading up to this moment.
It's truly masterful character development and story telling. The crew behind this season nailed it perfectly.

One of the best episode I've seen in a minute. Flawless direction, cinematography, animation, storytelling.... to say this wasn't one of the best or THE BEST episode of VS would be an understatement!!!

We start of with Thorfinn dreaming of Vinland but it's cut short and we get an absolutely phenomenal sequence with Thors and his philosophies of being a warrior. Sadly, it rang out true for Thorfinn, his son. Brilliant storytelling accompanied by great direction & sound designs.

We're not done there as we follow Thorfinn through depths of Hell and a very surprising reunion with Fan favorite Askeladd. I loved the Bjorn cameo too. The hell sequence was eye candy, methodically done. Askeladd bestows his wisdom as always helping Thorfinn find his feet & strive for more even after death. He gives Thorfinn that one last push to bring himself to be a TRUE WARRIOR, free from bloodshed & conflict. Einar is there to help him in that quest and I really hope everything works out for these two, I highly doubt it but for now, Thorfinn has taken the path of his Dad and it'll be interesting how he'll progress with it

Excellent on all fronts. Back to back bangers, now we head to the end of this cour which is approaching soon so I'm expecting a real good development on the plot real soon. See ya'll next week

This is hell. One of my anticipated manga panel and I couldn't ask for a better adaptation (Even though I'll say the manga is more polished in some areas), this adaptation is still perfection to bring everything to life.

Wow, absolutely amazing episode, I was blown away by the whole dreams and struggles scenes of Thorfinn! Like the animation and artwork and how it ties in with the story and how it depicted the feelings and everything so well, honestly, I had to come here and comment because of how good this episode was! Wow, well done to the whole team who was involved in making this masterpiece!

Holy fucking shit, I am out of words. I don't say this lightly, but this episode was peak fiction.

Singlehandedly makes me want to up the score from 9/10 to 10/10 for this season.

Mindblowing production from Mappa. Literally every aspect of this episode was amazing. The animation, the artistic styles, character expressions, the music, the voice acting. I honestly believe they went all out for this one. Superb work.

And the story? Yukimura is a genius. This is an incredible amount of character development for Thorfinn. Quite possibly one of the best episodes of showing a change in a character out there.

I was in tears when Thorfinn broke down. Askeladd's return put a smile on my face. He had just the words that Thorfinn needed to hear.

Thorfinn made a very bold statement, a new oath of never again resorting to violence again. That brought the tears again... Looks like it's time for Thorfinn to begin his true battle. I am all here for it.

My jaw is on the floor. A masterpiece of an episode. Bravo to EVERYONE involved.

PS: Those retainers got what they fucking deserved.

This is one of the greatest episodes of television. Period. When you really look deep into it, this is a story of a traumatised man not just learning to overcome his grief-  but learning to carry it. Not choosing to forget his past, but learning to shoulder it and carry every weight of that burden in the hopes he'll be able to create a better future. This is PEAK fiction, this is the sort of story so many more people need in their lives.

I can say, without a doubt, that this is and will be one of the best anime episodes this year. What an exceptional deep dive into Thorfinn's regrets and lingering demons. Askeladd was right when he said that Thorfinn is lucky, despite spending over a decade slaughtering others (innocent or otherwise) he still can change. What he has done in his past is irreversible, however, his future can still be changed from that of a warrior. Unlike other warriors who fight for the sake of battle, Thorfinn fought and murdered for the sole purpose of killing Askeladd, but when his whole reason for being was taken (Askeladd's death), his future and path became blank slates. He now has the opportunity to change his future, as well as redeem his past, by helping others.

What an incredible emotional journey we have experience this far, and there's still plenty more to come.

Ah, now we see the true message of what thors was trying to say to thorfinn from the very beginning. Violence creates more violence, its endless. On this earth we have no enemies, but humans don't fully understand that, thus creating violence and fear.

Being kind is harder than being cruel out of hatred (especially in the real world) that is the battle that a true warrior must fight through, aka thorfinns battle. This is what askeladd and thors is referring to when they talk about thorfinns true battle.

i should check out the manga after im caught up with the anime. Vinland saga speaks to me very much.

Never expected this season to get so psychological, and I am LOVING IT! Didn't seem like the sort of show to delve into the main character's psyches like that but this was an absolutely fantastic surprise, with great development for Thorfinn's character. Very intrigued how the rest of this season is going to play out!

Ayo, Askeladd is back. Well, in a dream (with good looking art and animation, if I may add), but still he appeared and influenced Thorfinn in the best way he could. Instead of running away and crying, a person needs to face reality and all good and bad deeds they have done in the past. That is, if said person wants to move onward in life.

Thorfinn's change, as it was presented like, looked a little bit cliché. As I was watching a shounen. But that's okay. I got used to shounen elements in this show that have been in it since the first season.
