Twelve Kingdoms has the best worldbuilding I've ever seen in anime. The mythology, history and political structure of the fantasy realm is explored in great depth and is quite fascinating. And it's not all a bunch of tedious infodumps. The story of the world is integrated alongside the stories of the characters and it flows so smooth.

Probably One Piece surpasses it due to its massive storytelling.

One world that I personally love is the one portrayed in Mushoku Tensei. It really is interesting and keeps on getting more and more interesting.

I'd also include Shinsekai Yori as a great worldbuilding + having very good foreshadowing. Besides animation (and pace?), this is arguably a masterpiece of story.

Berserk and One Piece have great worldbuilding and foreshadowing. Mushoku Tensei and 86 have great worldbuilding but not much for foreshadowing.

Friends are nothing more than the people who you spend the fun, yet meaningless times with. When those times get rough, they aren’t there to support you.

Hmm I don't really consider tie-ins to be foreshadowing, and given its length, it could have done way more.

You know what… Odd Taxi might be a good one for that. Since I’ve been watching it sporadically, I cannot comment heavily on foreshadowing as I may have missed some details however, from what I have picked up on, they do not shy away from hinting out truths of the mystery.
As for world-building, that has been completely nailed.

if you're looking for an anime that gives story and deep meaning to every single inch of its world then yeah One Piece is the best for this, don't worry about the episode count because once you start the anime you actually wouldn't want it to end lol

One Piece is the premiere anime for world building and foreshadowing. There is a large online community that makes theories on a WEEKLY basis because there is so much to work with. The author pulls stuff from literal hundreds of chapters prior. If you have the time, I highly recommend one piece. It is my favorite story of all time lol

ONE PIECE! ONE PIECE! AND ONE PIECE!

There is absolutely nothing that can peak the foreshadowing and worldbuilding of One Piece. I mean think about about it. Its world has been on the making for over 1000 episodes and when you realize that things in the first episodes foreshadow events that will occur 200,400,600 episodes later , you will be amazed!

Hey...
Yeah I've read it up to half of Wano :)

Yeah I'm aware of the pseudo-foreshadowings praised in the show, the infamously apologetic "Shanks' shonen stare foreshadows Haki" one is the biggest one for me :P

fmab: foreshadowing and worldbuilding are both great

Also, if you're ok with a manhwa, I recommend Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. The world building is and foreshadowing are both INSANE??? The series was originally a novel, but is getting a web comic adaptation that has about 100ish chapters right now. I'm currently reading the novel and it gets so fricken good as the story progresses.

MT isn't plot oriented to be honest, so it's kinda hard to establish foreshadowing moments. It's a continuous journey and we discover the world in the same rhythm as Rudy. I'd say it should be a must watch and an instant classic if it wasn't for the sexual themes that are very polemic.

One Piece. People always said it had some of the best worldbuilding and foreshadowing in anime, and I never really believed it until I watched it myself.

It’s actually really impressive how much foreshadowing is used consistently throughout the series. The author is pretty remarkable.

I agree so much, I think that one piece has the best world building, maybe not forshadowing and maybe not as suspenseful as aot but it's still so good.

I would recommend D.Gray-Man - amazing world building, really likable characters, cleverly done foreshadowing - I would suggest read the manga, but the first anime adaptation is really good too and faithful too (there are some fillers which are fine to skip but also not boring to watch either) so you can try that if you prefer and continue with the manga

Other suggestions I would give you are Pandora Hearts (the manga) and Mawaru Penguindrum. If you want something more edgy - Ergo Proxy or Claymore (again the manga for that one)

Tokyo Ghoul:re - the manga is really nice, imo very cool art style and even though there were mixed opinions about the ending, it's still worth reading and the end does not ruin the experience

Monster will give you some of the best foreshadowing you have ever seen and it actually has nice worldbuilding too, but it's not fantasy world it's the actual real world like Japan, Germany, etc..travel around countries and places.

Also for world building i'd recommend To Your Eternity, Michiko To Hatchin, Seirei No moribito, Wolfs rain, Made in abyss,

Other good foreshadowing anime are these:
Banana Fish
Great Pretender
Golgo 13
Death note
Jojo's bizarre adventure
Tokyo revengers

When I say worldbuilding I don't mean a tour bus ride taking you to random-ass places, and when I say foreshadowing I don't mean some silly call-backs that might have been cool back in 2004. I want something that completely re-contextualizes the story and changes how you see it upon rewatching it. Best example besides AOT would be Better Call Saul.

Anyone got anything for me?

Since a lot of people have mentioned those as I already watched them:
HxH, Shinsekai Yori: already watched, and it is indeed great at WB and FS
Berserk: not the type of foreshadowing I'm looking for, but the worldbuilding is top-tier
One Piece: don't consider the tie-ins and callbacks as 'foreshadowing' and I'm not a fan of the mix and match WB based too much on our world and existing fairy tales.

I really cant think of many but I can think alternately of something similar and I'd say youd enjoy black lagoon. The characters are a huge part of the show all being unique but the way they mix and interact is amazing and unique to how it ties into the whole criminal empire thing. world building isnt much but an alternate to that is the different groups of people that appear that begun to play such a big role, there isnt one main bad guy, instead of it following a path it branches off to explore several different ones. as for the foreshadowing your looking for I couldnt find much but theres themes and context you can tie in together to form a "ohhh that makes sense now" kinda thought. all in all super unique and entertaining give it a shot

Foreshadowing literally doesn't matter. Every writer makes shit up as he goes along to some degree. You can "foreshadow" things just by going back to the very beginning and tweaking certain things to conform to what happens near the end when you finish the story outline. It's superficial windowdressing that tricks midwits into thinking their favorite series has some unassailable structural integrity as a piece of fiction

Are you sure? Oda has been dropping clues since buggy clown arc with Dragon and since Skypiea arc and over 500 episodes later you're starting to see how good at foreshadowing Oda actually was often foreshadowing things that happen like 500 episodes in the future.

World-building, One Piece and the Millennium Falcon Arc of Berserk.

Foreshadowing, Re: Zero(even better than AoT) and the Golden Age Arc of Berserk(also better).

Golden Age arc had some lovely bits of foreshadowing but nowhere near the complexity and nuance as AOT, as well-written as that arc may have been, foreshadowing wasn't what made it great.

I'm talking about the small details about how every glance and interaction between Annie and Reiner in the training arc can be understood differently and has a new meaning after a re-watch. AOT has dozens of those high-end foreshadowings, not just the 'hear ye thou shallt be yeeted soon'

Every time I rewatch AOT I find a tiny hidden bit that might have been foreshadowing. I really understand what you mean lol. I too have yet to come across a show that delivers proper foreshadowing as well as AOT.

I've already read OP, and it doesn't really have any foreshadowing unfortunately, and the worldbuilding is not that great for me tbh... I'm just not a fan of mix-and-match worldbuilding and go for more creative and original ideas.

I'm sorry but I don't get you😂
I respectively ask what makes the world building of AOT different from One Piece
let's use Alabasta-Skypeia and compare it to Marley and Eldia
they both have rich history and backstories,
they both have diverse landscapes
the people both have unique cultures
they both have interactions with the larger world and influence it
so why is AOT's world building way more superior to One Piece
really i just want to know 😂 enlighten me

AOT has a complex world and some fresh setting that deviates well from the closest giant-related stories or 'human trapped by mindless creatures in a post-apocalypse' genre.

One Piece has... just another desert as a backdrop for Luffy to fight the villain in, save the damsel in distress and then save said backdrop. Now swap the backdrop with a jungle, now with venice, now with barcelona... rinse and repeat.

Like i said you've not given me any points that make AOT different ur just saying AOT's world is complex and differs while One Piece just has a different setting
What I'm trying to tell u is that both worlds
Like Marley and Skypeia both have deep history and culture, we're not talking about Luffy now or any of the characters or the overall plot, it's the world and how well it's written, u can't tell me Skypeia,Zou, Water 7 and Alabasta aren't well crafted worlds,
They're inspired from real life places yes but so is Marley which is clearly gotten from Nazi Germany,

I mean you just listed random and vague things like "One Piece has this and one piece has that" which is easy to do for any series...

It's not about how much I talk. I've made my point concisely.
