This episode was great, we get to see what happened between seasons 3 and 4 and it explains most of what’s going on right now with Zeke and marly.
Eren’s Titan lookin real menacing in that boat scene, the volunteers arrive and we are introduced to YelenaWe also get introduced to Niccolo who’s a chef, he do be cookin doe, and we see a wholesome moment with Sasha, and also her funeral. RIP Sasha.

Eren got his hair up, that’s when you know it’s about to go down soon
overall great episode, a solid 8/10 imo, tons of good moments, Mappa killed It with the animation again, it was amazing.

A lot of low-quality shots this episode but it was expected. If they have to save somewhere, it should be during these dialogue-heavy episodes. As far as I know they didn't skip anything too important. They also kept in the disco titan shot lol
"lot of low quality shots" BRUH WHAT 😆 watch it again with glasses maybe

Subpar art and animation. How does rewatching change that lol?

Welp, Isayama bullshiting us as usual in Araki forgot levels. I won't complain much because I can't remember if that was the least foreshadowed or explained before, but welp.

I liked this episode a lot though. I think this was the first time I ever cared for these characters in the past. Seeing how much they changed really put it in perspective.

Did you watch s3? He talked about it then in his inner monologue but didnt want to reveal it because he wanted to keep historia safe. Now that he has another option available(Zeke) he decided to tell everyone.

Correct, Eren recalls Dina being transformed into pure titan from Grisha's memory. This happens when Hange mentions that occassion when Eren managed to use the founder titan ability during the gathering in the congress hall to discuss the truth unrevelaed about the subjects of Ymir, and the world. Eren suddenly stand up and shouts "It can't be!" when he puts the image together in his mind. That of course attracts immediate attention in the hall, technically everybody's, and they ask the reason for his act. Then Eren decides not to talk about it, because he doesn't want to involve Historia and set her on the shifter's fate.

I really love this part of manga plotwise, Nicolo and Onyakopon are probably my favourite characters from across the ocean. I also share exactly the feelings of Armin, his regret of not being able to go back to peace from the mess Eren has dragged them in.

Execution-wise it was a bit meh, I mean, manga Eren is fantastically handsome in the final shot, and MAPPA didn't even scratch the surface of his awesomeness. Levi and others looked sloppy most of the time. Historia looked good though.

I generally would have preferred a better overview of the technological development in Paradis, they almost showed nothing. Maybe it will be shown in the next episodes. It hurt me to see Hange so happy learning all the new technologies while knowing that it will be ruined so soon because of Eren's actions. Maybe there really was no other choice, but I would prefer not to rush things.

Gabi's seiyu is memorable again, probably the best thing this episode, her anger at Eren sounded totally genuine. I don't particularly like her as a character, but the voice acting is superb. This episode actually made me want to close my eyes and just listen to the episode.

Great episode. Efficiently conveyed to the viewer some of the major events that occurred during the 4 year time skip, as well as beginning the build up to the WfP arc. For some reason I'd wanted to see this panel get animated for a while now:

Personally I preferred it in the manga xD

Here comes the backstory, the flashback, the scenes that fill in the 3 years gap...

It started nice, it started slow, it started with a bunch of washed-up ships done by Eren's titan form. The marleyans are hostile until they get to know the eldians. However, it hurts to see Sasha in this flashback to 3 years ago, her antics, beautiful faces and especially seeing her eat the way she always does, eating Nicolo's food. Basically, everything about 3 years ago incites nostalgia. Doesn't matter if I've already read this in the manga long ago, in fact, being a manga reader actually enhances the nostalgic feeling of the pre-final-season SnK/AoT even further. But goddamn.

The transition from Eren's bullet of conviction to the scene showing Sasha being shot is pure evil genius. What an excellent transition, even the buildup in OST was on point there.

This ep is done well, as always, it's great to see MAPPA giving justice to all these story elements and showing how the characters personalities and relations shifted over the course of the years. However I was waiting for a fully animated closeup of Eren's badass face at the end of the ep, something which MAPPA didn't do, dang it. Hopefully, next week ep shows a close up of Eren's face with his man bun hairstyle...

A very good episode in general, however there was a terrible flaw that I found truly dumbfounding. As we all know Zeke has royal blood from his mother's side (who he happily ratted out to the Marleyans -along with his father- for having done the exact same thing Zeke is now purportedly doing himself...). Since Zeke has royal blood he can activate the Founding Titan's powers, though presumably since his mother Dina Fritz was very a distant relative of Karl Fritz and his descendants -perhaps most importantly she was also not one of them- she would not have bound by the Karl Fitz + Founding Titan's war renunciation vow, thus neither would Zeke.

Therefore it appears that Zeke can use the Founding Titan's power either for peace or for war (or to threaten war). ~3 years ago Eren disclosed that the only time he activated his Founding Titan power was when he touched Dina Fritz as a titan. So, he said, her son Zeke could also activate the same power. The flaw was precisely at that point : Eren and Hange maintained (correctly) that Zeke's "secret plan" could work. Of course it could, but why would Zeke use his Founding Titan power (after apparently eating Eren..) to threaten Marley with releasing the colossal titans when he could use that power any other way he wished? Like, for instance, erase the memories of all the Paradis Eldians again to keep them in the dark and then have Marley attack them?

That 3-year old flashback basically equated the capability of Zeke to help the Eldians with his will to help them. This might have all been a very elaborate deep undercover plan (perhaps designed by Willy Tybur) to have Zeke capture the Founding Titan with as many Marleyan sacrifices as were required. No matter how much the Paradis guys claim they do not trust the Marleyans after 3 full years what only matters is how they can trust Zeke to use the Founding Titan the way he said he will. After he gains his power there is nothing the Paradis Eldians can do to stop him. They will be at his mercy. The mercy of a traitor.

That one scene where Eren shot the rifle then the screen proceeds to go red and a flashback of when Sasha was shot just proves that Eren was fairly responsible for Sasha's death. It hurts. But the overall episode was so good, all thanks to Mappa Studio for giving justice to the manga.

i'm loving this new stoic eren so much, he's like a completely different character than the one we see from s1 to s3. so determined now with head full on unpredictable plans, i wonder what he is planning to do next with the fearsome rumbling's plan proposed by zeke in mind ...? crazy times ahead.

exactly how I expected, flashback episode but only half of so. Yelena did great there but she was playing with Zeke from the start, I don't really understand why Zeke did all that, why being so roundabout if he also wanted freedom for Eldia. I feel that there is a bigger plot above all and these are just small battles to be fought. I am thinking about Zeke's betrayal, if he didn't betray Grischa, Eren wouldn't be born, he must have seen something in the monkey's memory and did all that otherwise it's nonsensical. And also about the paths and that everything is connected, I'm thinking about that guy who hanged himself, even he saw a Rumbling in his memory, I don't think it was about the invasion of Marley when the Colossal broke the wall, just who the hell is the enemy?
Now Eren plans to eat Zeke but they could let other guy eat him, they could've made Sasha into a titan, then quickly eat Zeke in the last episode, it's not like they attain that much info from the guy.

The episode felt weird, so many random scenes, now we're here and now we're there, anyways, the traitor marleyans were interesting, Niccolo was ok cooking for Sasha, he seemed like a pretty decent guy.
It feels so refreshing looking at the islanders, they live life with so much pride, you can see how they changed after the rebellion, so different than the eldians from the interment camps and also different than the coward marleyans who know just war.

Hange is crazy, she doesn't have a shred of sanity in her, that's why I like her. There are still big mysteries out there and I'm not racking my brains off, I will just sit still and enjoy the story.

This episode was simply amazing. While the previous episodes presented a lot of epic action, this one was definitely slower to catch a breath, but the way everything was adapted was simply amazing. Once again MAPPA showed a fine example of great balance between audio and visuals that together can fit the atmosphere of various scenes, both happy and sad.

Next episode's going to have that famous Eren's mirror scene animated! Can't wait for it. :)

These episodes feel way too short. The few Mikasa scenes were great, even when she wasn't uttering a single word. And last but not least, Levi's joke streak cracked me better than anything I've seen in years.

really insightful episode. Yelena's backstory is not a complete mystery anymore and I actually like her character. Will Zeke betray his brother like he did his Dad? Levi is definitley pissed and on edge so if Zeke tries anything he'll probably get wrecked. I also wonder what will become of Annie, I hope she does wake up. Rip Sasha...

Fair enough. I think Armin is just trying to look at it objectively though, and knows that hatred only begets hatred and the cycle will never end that way. That's pretty much the message of this whole show at this point, with the switching back and forth between both parties.

• 0:25 Three years ago, huh. Does this mean we’re finally going to get some explanation as to why we ended up in this weird war situation?
• 2:39 SHE? The Fake Armin guy is a SHE?
• 16:03 Armin’s monologue here was nice, and I also liked seeing flashbacks of the characters as they were before the war turned them into heartless serial killers.
• 18:10 This was a nice moment. It’s good to see that not everyone in this world is a bigoted bastard. Peace can be achieved.
• 19:52 By the way, who’s to say Fake Armin and her buddies aren’t just playing the same game as Eren when he infiltrated their land? You know, gaining their trust, and then turning on them as soon as it suits them. Zeke could be in on it too, most likely.

Pretty good episode, I enjoyed it. I sure hope we’re going to see Annie break out of her Titan Crystal™ soon. She’s been there since the end of Season 1, right? That’s a long time…

Another good and informative episode.

LOL Eren just picking up that ship and setting in down and Zoe cracking open a can of some of that cringe comedy :D even Levi agrees that her skit is whack XD but it seems to work! Ah, the title of this episode is called brave volunteers that sure is a fancy way of saying traitors ^-^ I mean it is good they are helping everyone out by introducing new technologies and concepts but seriously this Yelena shot one of her own members and she and the rest of her group seem to mainly follow Zeke so their loyalty seems to hinge on him. So the vibe from her and Zeke is certainly one of a bit of skepticism. The idea of them betraying Eren and everyone is not out of the realm of possibility so I would say the Eldians are right to be cautious at the very least until Zeke's plan has been fully heard/executed and produced some results. But, we will have to wait and see the units that followed seemed to open up upon interacting and humanizing the Eldians so hopefully there will not be any betrayal.

Awww, seeing Sasha enjoying her Lobster meal was a pretty bittersweet scene to be sure 😔

Levi figures kill Zeke now kill him later either way it is a win win for him 😁 but seriously that scene was the best in this episode in my opinion at least. But, interesting so Zeke organized this and his proposal will ensure the survival of the Eldian people if successful I wonder if he will be able to convince Gabi and Falco as well? Also, ah I knew Armin would be talking to Annie. But, Armin relayed to her that Eren's reasoning is correct in order to possibly one day have a future where people see Eldians as humans they need to create a surefire way to ensure their safety before such barriers are broken. Overall more of an unwinding/informative episode but still enjoyable.

A really good following episode, finally shedding some more light on what happened over these 4 years...

Maybe I had some attachment to Sasha a long time ago, but it was a LONG time ago, so I really didn't feel much for her death, and I expect such more deaths to continue as long as this cycle of revenge is not broken.
So really, all that hate on Gabi, meh.

I m not one-sided enough to stay on Paradis Island's side, that is to say, on Eren's side of things.
It was Eren that forced their hand, so I would say that the Survey Corps arent the party to blame here, and up to till that attack, maybe you could have sided with Paradis, but you gotta recognize Marley's side also has people that can see over the hate and the lies, and want the violence to stop, but that isn't enough for the critical situation the world is at, and when considering the past.

At least I m glad Eren's character changed somehow, because if he had said he wanted to make peace with Marley and naively thinking he would be able to do it without much sacrifice... fucking dumb that would be.

Turning back to this episode, I m have mixed feelings about what the survey corps are doing, they want to put a shackle on Zeke (and Eren), they are afraid of their plans, understandable, but also, there are people there that reached out and helped them, without such help Paradis would have been doomed already.

What I really like about the continuation of where this is going is that it has progressively gotten grayer, and some may choose to ignore it, but I do like it when a story likes to be bold in the right ways, and challenge the viewer's perspective and opinion thus far.

Why didn't Zeke switch sides a year before instead of murking Erwin and the scouts. Could've easily convinced Reiner & Bertolt to join him too since they already kinda wanted to stay with the survey corps. They also had Ymir with them & Annie that's 7 titans lol this shit would've been over already

Finally some flashbacks I've been waiting for. It was nice to slow down a little bit after the previous action episodes.
The thing I'm wondering is why Zeke changed sides right in that moment or what led him to it. Maybe this will be discussed later. And oh my god, Levi must be sooo controling himself, imagining Zeke was the one to kill Erwin and most of Survey corps.
I am so sorry for Connie, oh, it just hurts to hear him say that he lost a part of him with Sasha gone.
