Re:Zero is several times better than Mushoku Tensei.

There's an abyss between them.

Mushoku Tensei has one of the worst script and characters that I have seen in my whole life. But hey the animation is good, that's what matters

Mushoku Tensei for me in both anime and light novels by leaps and bounds. Way more immersed in this series while the other one bored the hell out of me when reading and rewatching it. Re:Zero's always got potential but feels way too heavy-handed, forced and just not an enjoyable series for me to be a fan of it. It was like a chore, especially with the novels for all 4 arcs that have been complete through the English translated LNs that I read. Mushoku Tensei just felt like a breeze to get immersed into with each episode feeling like 5 minutes, not 5 hours. And the way Studio Bind handled the series was great, lot of love was put into it even with the smaller details for the world to feel alive in its own way.

Apart from MT, if it counts since for some reason I'm never sure about it, the only other isekai series I like a lot is Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun and the Konosuba movie separately, not the actual full anime. Ascendance of a Bookworm had some potential with its synopsis and how fresh it sounded but was a massive letdown for me story-wise, especially in Season 2. And Myne's even more unbearable than Subaru for me in the first season, and that's a shame since I fucking love anime/manga/LNs related to books with a twist like Toshokan Sensou or Magus of the Library.

With Mushoku Tensei, I feel as though I went on the adventure with the party and it had been a long while since the very beginning. Everything feels alive, natural, and the progression is done so well. Nothing overstays its welcome, and moments hit hard without trying so hard to make you care. Not to mention, the level of detail makes it feel like the world actually existed.

For Re:Zero S2P2, I also felt like I went on an adventure. Or at least, that's what it felt like as each episode was an absolute slog to get through. The story really slammed the breaks on the entire plot to give each character a 30, or even 90 minute backstory that really tries to get you to care. In MT, we were given sometimes 1-3 minute backstories that entirely trump entire 30 minute backstories from Re:Zero. The pacing really destroyed the season, along with other elements that just made it way less enjoyable.

Both are fine. One has Sugita playing Narrator which is great. Also its nice, cause Mushoku was one of the older Tensei series and was one of the few that got adapted later. The concept is pure wish fulfilment, but I like it cause it slowly adds more to the world. like expanding on the Greyrat family and the fact humans can get along with beast people and demon races.
The other has more of no OP protag, I like that they suffer again and again to change something, realising how powerless they are, but despite that still pulls through. Interesting cast of characters.

Also one is Tensei. The other is Isekai.

Also Mushoku is more adult. due to the numerous sexual scenes.

That said though I prefer Youjo Senki over both. Something about a little militarised tensei girl managing an elite squad of battle mages in a Great War setting slowly turning to WW2, is more appealing.

Also Kumo Desu Ka was also more engaging in areas over the other two. only thing that let it down was when it focused on the humans and less on the spider.

Because this same audience will cancel you on the social media for those same core ideas behind said shows.
Seems like double standards to me. Like those shows can buy indulgences with their popularity.

Great animation

It's kind of average to me. The constant praising of Mushoku Tensei for that aspect makes no sense to me since I am not impressed. For example Akudama Drive had impressive art and animation but almost nobody watched it.

Not impressed.

Ewww.

Those two titles can be above the average isekai but quite average in comparison to the normal shows. For me they don't deserve to be praised to the heavens.

lol some answers to this thread are actually cancerous.

either way, I thoroughly enjoyed both!! Re:Zero remains my favorite because it is simply more entertaining imo. there is more going on: more action, more character-focus and development. nonetheless, Mushoku Tensei's romance is somewhat better and more satisfying; in Re:Zero it still feels kinda left in the air. I would need another season (at least) of Mushoku Tensei to properly judge it because I know that what we got until now was just a really long prologue to the actual story that is still going on. looking forward to it, just as another season of Re:Zero~

I know they are both isekai but they aren't really the same type of show. jobless is an fantasy epic and rezero is a fantasy thriller/mystery. Obviously they are similar in that they use similar styles and tropes but I think they are quite different.

Both are very Different shows, the only thing they really share is being an Isekai.

I personally Prefer MT but I like ReZero as well, both shows have very good characters but I feel MT goes into much more detail on the self perspective of the MC then Rezero, thats not to say you don't get into Subaru's Character but it's usually in big chunks like an entire episode dropped in, where as in MT your constantly learning about Rudeus as your always getting his thought process on screen which you rarely get with Subaru.

ReZero is very Mystery based where as Mushoku is covering alot of time period like a coming of age, the worlds are massively different as well, MT is significantly more grand in scale and it can be since it's covering alot more time so alot more places can be visited, ReZeros mysterys though are it's theme very little information is presented but thats what keeps it suspense, MT gives you alot of information but the show is very heavily based on it's characters, the interactions and most importantly the mental side of Rudeus as he tackles the world.

I think I am lucky

When I saw this poll, I saw one series leading the other by one vote. So I voted the other one to make it equal.
As it is meant to be, I love both more or less equally, having read their WNs and LNs partially.

Mushoku Tensei has definitely the better anime adaptation for the most part, though.

I prefer Re:Zero source material slightly more because unlike MT which dips in quality sometimes, Re:Zero keeps getting better with each arc. While I love the thrills from the mystery and psychological aspects of Re:Zero, I equally enjoy the adventures and fantasy aspect of Mushoku Tensei. Both does have very good characters. Maganote is slightly more refined than Tappei in his writing style. Re:Zero excels in lore and story connectivity - it just becomes better with more understanding. MT excels in world building and handling diverse topics - it becomes better with more visualization.

I do have to touch some older isekais though...

Season 1 had it's moments, so I finished it, and also I didn't know when to drop animes yet...
But like season 2 part 1 was dreadful, that when I saw that part 2 is doing flashbacks, I just dropped it.

I personally found Part 1 to be great. But S2P2 slams the emergency breaks on the train and has multiple 30+ minute episodes that are just for flashbacks of characters. Add on more cringe and padded dialogue than usual, flashbacks that range from alright to just bad, it’s a recipe for disaster.

Depends if you're talking about anime or the source material. I love the Re:Zero anime but I think Mushoku Tensei is better in that medium, not to mention it's a more faithful adaptation since the Re:Zero anime cuts out quite a bit. However if you include source material, then Re:Zero is miles better.

My only problem with Mushoku is that it took so long to adapt it in a anime... Other isekais such as Re:zero already established their world whereas Mushoku, even being among the first isekais with the "formula" we have nowadays, has come too late.

Oh, and Rudeus is trash, god... Subaru isn't the best but has a better psychological arc than Rudeus, who is a fcking pedo hell....

BUT Mushoku does something I love and that's having a slow pacing to develop the world building and Rudeus at the same time. I've read a bunch of the LV of rezero and Subaru haven't really had a strong growth since season 1 of the anime lol.

So, in overall and conclussion, Mushoku has better world building, enough to me for being my favorite among these 2.

Mushoku tensei is an absolute banger of a show. If you can get past the fact MC is a pedo then you´re rewarded with GOAT animation, storytelling and character development. and I hear this is just the beginning of a long series to look forward to. Ep16 was that made me give this show a 10/10 for it's excellent storywriting. Absolutely love it!

BUT Re:zero is still my personal favorite. It has been around for a while and with 2 seasons + a few OVAs, so it have grown on me so much. I love psychological shows and time travel and loves how time travel has been used as a tool to torture Subaru. Seeing characters just die makes me sleepy, but seeing characters not having death as an option makes the show shot up to a whole another level and Re:zero does just that.
