If that’s a metaphor and they didn’t actually go back in time then the happy ending we got isn’t real (or at leat happened in another world unconnected to the main Rika & Satoko), since the scene where Rika leave for St. Lucia happened in March, 87. While the battle and hand holding in car scene happened when they have already went to the academy, in the summer break of 87.

Are you serious? Last unkore makes this shit look like a masterpiece in comparison. FGO is complete shit.
Tsukihime remake is average at best. Nothing really happens in it outside of a couple dragged out fight scenes in a completely unsuited format (text).
The guy is way past his peak.

I can't speak for FGO cause I've only read the Stay Night VN, or the Tsukihime Remake, since I haven't read it.

What I do know is that the Tsukihime VN has received a very warm welcome. It's selling well, mainstream coverage is good, fans are happy, Japanese crowd is happy, It's doing pretty well for itself.

It's the most widespread coverage a VN has got in a long time.

Wdym unsuited format? You do know that Visual Novels are a thing right? Typemoons VN Fights are pretty good. And VNs are an excellent storytelling medium Dies Irae, Aoishiro, Ryuukishis stuff, Steins Gate, are all amazing works.

Text is a perfectly fine format, looks like someone is too lazy to read like Satoko. Heh.

They reset the Fragment back to when Matsubiriyashi began.
Rika and Satoko continue from there.
Rika is the only one who goes to St Lucia.

I think they have already went there because the whole gang was wearing the same clothes as when they returned to Hinamizawa for club reunion, in some times after June 87. You can go back to Gou ep 20 to check.
Anyway I should stop trying to figure this shit out using logic since it’s clear those at Passione didn’t

It's redundant but the other explanations kinda cause more problems.

You could say that Rika and Satoko purposefully jumped to a certain point in time - but then, who's controlling the time? Satoko?

Neither of them show any surprise when St Lucia segments begin so...

Eua is only showing Hanyuu flashcuts of what happened so the time between each kill is unclear.

We just have to apply Ryuukishis new Evangelion Philosophy. Don't think about it, just watch. Turn off your brain and watch the spectacle unfold.

Been enticed with the gore and brutality of Higurashi, even though this was the desired end it felt quite lackluster. This show started out as a cute moe moe girls talk kinda thing before spiraling into the most gruesome act and ending with a if you love em you should let go thing.

Honestly this show gave me the thrills for all the flashy red painted all over my memory. And now it has come to an end. Season 1 left us with many questions while this season answered them all. Also ending the show with the most iconic song of the series is the best sendoff we could get.
When someone asks me why I like anime, I'd say Just Because.

[OG watcher here]
I would describe this ending as a "safe ending".

From my point of view, it wasn't a dumpsterfire but it also wasn't a glorious firework. It was kind of disappointing to see that SOTSU didn't overthrow my expectations like the first few seasons.

A fist fight instead of a battle of wits and words? That felt a bit off for Higurashi, turning into a shounen for a few minutes there.

Furthermore, I already suspected that we would get a good ending like in the OG - which is not a bad thing I have to stress here - but the way it came to that conclusion wasn't exactly what I hoped for. I expected more subterfuge from Ryukishi on that front, diverting my thoughts on how it could and would end.

In addition, the season was for a huge chunk repetitive, since we already knew it was Satoko and what her motivation was for doing what she did. I understand that Ryukishi wanted to show us how things happened behind the scenes in GOU, but he managed to do that better in the OG I feel. Could be wrong here.

Yet the biggest thing that I disliked:
That it wasn't the "real Satoko" that did all this horrible stuff, but rather "the witch Satoko" if I understood correctly. That shifted the blame easily away to someone else. I think it would have made for a more interesting story if the blame wouldn't have been so easily diverted.

BUT what was fantastic was the animation as well as the sound. There are many a series out there which didn't get a good looking anime adaption. So bravo to Passione. I loved the little details - like the ominous eyes in a window reflection of Satoko or the reflection of when she was a child in the water in the OP.
Opening and ending theme always hit a home-run, especially this new "dear you" version at the end. That really made me tear up. Seeing everybody happy in the end was damn good.

Calendar pages have been torn off, worlds crumbled only to be renewed again and so the story unfolded.
All in all, I sincerely thank with all my heart everybody who made Higurashi into what it is today - Ryukishi, the VAs, the animators, the sound specialists and so many more.
Good thing that Ryukishi back then was able to get the VN to be sold in stores in Akihabara when it first started out...

Well, it seems this is it. So long Rika, Satoko, Shion, Mion, Rena and Keiichi. So long Hinamizawa.
Will we ever see them again? I do not know, but if we do, one thing is certain:
We shall see each other again - when they cry.

To be honest, even though Umineko is an amazing Visual Novel, some of it's rabid fans make enjoying it difficult. Sotsu inspired me to read Umineko, which I finished before watching episodes 14 and 15.

I was active in the Umineko subreddit since I started Umineko. Boy, are there some massive retards in that community who'll act like they're Greek Philosophers just because they read Umineko and think they're smart.

Not only that, but they'll take it as a personal insult if you say that Umineko is anything less than a masterpiece. and even more so if you say Higurashi was better and more popular.

After watching OG Higurashi and reading VN Umineko i fell in love with Ryukishi07. The plot, mystery, character development was so good in this series, so my expectations for gousotsu were quite high. After watching gousotsu i was so disappointed, no character development, repeated scenes like rika dancing for the fifth time and many others scenes that just extend the duration. The solution to the problem between rika and satoko was so pointless it was a shock for me. Like really... Torturing rika for another 100 years and then just come to your friends so they can tell you "friendships are not eternal" and you say...
"Oh you're totally right, so lets end our fight and just say goodbye"
You might as well compare it with this example: you're working really hard for your goal to accomplish for so long, you sacrife everything and then your friend telling you:
"why do you do this, nothing last forever anyway", and you just don't do it anymore.
The plot was too predictable, after knowing that satoko was using the vaccine, too many things in sotsu was already known, combining it with repeated scenes just from another perspective creates a disaster.
C'mon Ryukishi07 you can do better. I hope that the next higu/umi/anything will not be disappoiting for me and many others and i keep my fingers crossed.

The "witch Satoko" angle doesn't fly because we actually see every step of her becoming evil in Gou, and it was all under her own free will. Satoko having a split personality really doesn't make any sense and is a cheap way to absolve her of her crimes.

Check out the Shion arc in Higurashi Season 1 for an answer arc done well. Little to no repeated content except to provide context every now and then, and it told it's own compelling behind-the-scenes story where we didn't already know every twist, and explored in depth a character we knew very little about at the time. It blows away every answer arc in Sotsu.

So you want tell me that "Good Satoko" Was come back to her own body, and Rika just like "well Satoko, if you not want to come with me. Then I just go my self! Bye Bitch!" Fuck this shit! 4/10!

The Umineko references made me think they'd tie the When they cry franchise together, and when they didn't do anything it makes me think what the point was in including so many things in the story and not doing anything with them. Time in a TV show or movie is precious, and showing things that are irrelevant to the plot is a waste of time. Even more so when they've already been showing some of the same scenes from Gou.

With that aside, I think the ending was a meant to be an ending for Higurashi as a franchise, rather than a good ending for Sotsu as a show as itself. Even then, the ending wasn't that good, and felt rushed. Takano is suddenly back but should be in hiding for betraying those guys back in Tokyo, Satoshi wakes up for no good reason, etc. Neither did they try to set up this final arc for success, or even try building up the atmosphere and characters for the finale, it just came all of a sudden.

I still like Sotsu because I get to see these characters one last time and for allowing me to read Umi, but other than that I can say it's definitely the worst entry in the franchise.

Satako clearly tried to study hard for many loops to no avail. Some people are just not cut out for academics, but have street smarts. Why can't people accept it? Rika finally did.
She tried studying for many loops? Exactly when did that happen? Pretty sure she repeated St. Lucia only ONCE.
Anyway, even if she did go to St. Lucia multiple times, you'd imagine a person with "street smarts" would try to actually NOT GOING if it wasn't that nice.

smoledman said:
I can't exactly imagine what it's like to live through 1000s of loops like that and what that would do to one's sanity. Not gonna judge Satako.
She didn't live through 1000s of loops to lose her sanity. She was mad in the very beginning and then she watched Rika's loops. She was already a lost cause since the day she met Eua.

okay i'm honest i had my fun with this Gou and Sotsu.

Satoko just got away with it and the brutal and bloody fight to death got to a silly kids fight.
ok.
also Satokos huge wrath against Rika was like"you dumb" and Rika:" no u"

also Hanyuu:" Bibidi Babidi Boo, now you are a Loli too:" Eua:k, bye"

also Satoshi wakes up. yay :I

the "Dear you" song at the end hit my right in the nostalgia. well played.

all what i can say is this.
it was nice to get back to Hinamizawa, but now let it rest in peace.

yet another villain who repents because "the power of friendship".

That's why I'm abandoning anime more and more, there is a lack of valid writers.

Higurashi ends with Kai still a good series.
Gou and Soutsu end up in the basket of hideous and useless sequels.

I maybe done with Higurashi, but I wouldn't mind "observing" the potential shit storm that unfolds if Umineko fans get the same treatment Higurashi fans did. MOST Umineko fans were pretty toxic the entire time, so let's see what happens when they finally get what they wish for. I'm sure they'll love Ryukishi07's new writing philosophy. :)

I just think Rika knew that Satoko who fight her wasn't real Satoko, but Witch (Vier/Lambdadelta) who was taking over Satoko's body. If Rika killed Satoko that time, it would kill both Witch and real Satoko too, that's why she couldn't do that. Real Satoko was regretting her action since Tatariakashi, so no need for her to be punished again.

I want to say that Witch (Vier/Lambdadelta) was acting randomly. First in 2006-Kai, she gave Takano power of certainty, then in Gou-Sotsu she actively participated by taking over Satoko's body after meet Eua/become looper there, but in the end she left Satoko's body to real Satoko for her happiness. That Witch basically will follow where Rika (Bernkastel) will go just to play witch things there. So neither Satoko/Takano is Lambdadelta lol.

  • O girls, just be friends

5/10.

I loved the ending, though. This song was great and that was the feeling for a closure, but........ not for this.

The ending has definitely given me a "Wait, that's it?" type of vibes. Mostly because this has been a bit of a bumpy and wild ride so I was expecting something with a little more oomf to it. But it came out more like a wish sandwich (inside joke).

But looks like Satoko and Rika have finally made peace with each other. I'm sure there is a mutual disappointment though since they won't be in constant contact. Satoko doesn't have to study her ass off any more, womp lol. And Teppei came out a likeable character.

If nothing else, at least I'll be getting a bad ass eye mask out of this

It isn't like any scene which actually was a remake of an original scene was done as good as, let alone better than, the same scenes in seasons one and two anyway. So that might have turned out better quality in terms of the story, because the story of seasons one and two is obviously 1000x better and more detailed than Gou/Sotsu, but it still would have been an inferior version, making it kind of pointless.

Readers of the VN and sometimes manga often consider seasons one and two to be an inferior version of the original original (source material) anyway, but at least that very much served a purpose - to translate it to another medium - an anime for TV broadcast. Doing that again except a worse version just seems like such a needless waste of time, effort, and resources. Unless they actually made it better, of course. But not a single remade scene in Gou or Sotsu convinces me that that was ever a realistic possibility. They're just the same or similar scenes with inferior direction and line delivery, inferior use of music/OST, and less emotional power and impact as a result.

Wholeheartedly agree with this! The answer arcs in OG Higurashi aren't just copy-paste scenes, they really do show the different angles and perspectives. Gou and Sotsu didn't really do this, it became so repetitive and superficial.

The last 2 episodes are bad. The build up was great but those last 2 episodes is not Higurashi anymore, its more like Dragon Ball Z lmao.

6/10 but only because the beginning is actually great. 6 is fair and I'm being generous here cuz I love this series (the old one)

Seeing all the characters at the end kind of made me wish we had another arc with all their stories/different timeline (Satoshi waking up at the end for example, what a wasted opportunity to have some OG series moments) rather than a rehashed season of Gou. Kind of like how we explored Takanos backstory in Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai. Alas that never happened. 😂 I was at the point at the end where I was thinking maybe it’s gona be an Umineko reboot and that didn’t happen either so I’m kind of disappointed.

Comparisons with Dragon Ball Z are unfair.

DBZ has way more character development, plot and consistency.

I personally loved the ending so much. Using the VN ending song immediately made me smile and cry at the same time, it was perfect for the ending. I believe they ended the story very well and using the vn ending song made it perfect because it brought back so many memories from the original story. Im happy with the ending.

You make it sound like that instead of liking the ending,
you liked the song ._.

It wasn't bad to use the "Meakashi ending song", but at the same time it was kinda cheap way to gather some final points for the show.
Intelligent gets through situations which wise avoids.

i dont think it was cheap at all and more as using the song to show that the story is over. And i love the song so much so it may have seemed like i just like the song and not the ending, but i love the ending so much. I watched it 4 times lol.
