The upvote/downvote system ruins any kind of discussion where there's subjective interpretation and opinion. Reddit is great if you need advice on how to fix a certain tool or gather ideas for some specific technical problem. Otherwise, you're better off on the 4chan even if you have to wade through a lot of shit to get the gold, and the memes are a bonus.

There is some good discussion there, if you can deal with the upvoting/downvoting nonsense. As with any discussion forum, there will be idiots. Still decent tho

I would say its a lot better than mal discussions. The upvoted comments are usually the ones that are most funniest or have a lot of info. Mal also has a smaller manga community so u can find a more dedicated discussion on reddit. Both sites have its shitty ppl its just that reddit filter most of them out with the downvote system.

definitely the worst platform to discuss anything
downvote system just creates an insufferable circle jerk, not even an entertaining one
if society collapses, i will go out of my way to rob + steal specifically from reddit users if i can find them, because it is morally good to do so

Yeah, reddit is good and sometimes just as good as MAL.

Tbf, actual subreddits are a better discussing place rather than r/anime, because fans come together to talk about stuff, though that does bring problem of hivemind behaviour.

Also, MAL has a tendency to never actually discuss from what I see (unless the series is very popular), discussion threads are usually just a synopsis of the episode/chapter that has been released. I don't see this on reddit at all.

Everytime I hear stories about that website I shake my head in disbelief. Does that answer your question?

Depends where you are.

If you're on any big anime discussion subreddit, chances are it'll be bad unless you're there for whatever the folks there are hyping up or interested in talking about. Though, I remember there being some sort of slow-mode anime discussion subreddit that wasn't as bad as the main one...

As for fandom subreddits, they're probably nicer, and likely to be particularly nice if you're in the fandom of an unpopular show. These subreddits will generally be very focused on the show, and some of them have very in-depth information/analysis/commentary as well as relevant fan-works and figurine photos and more. They're slow compared to huge subreddits, because they have fewer users on them. But they very often make up for this with focus and sometimes even quality.

No, but it can be good at specific anime memes like if anyone was there during the peak of Titanfolk knows. My reading experience of AoT was enhanced because I couldn't wait to go there and look at all the new memes/theories.

Reddit is a good place for discussion since it at least has a dark mode option instead of a certain anime site that is constantly bright white.

No. It may have other qualities, like there's a lot of stuff to read and for the creative parts of the fandom it's a good place to promote their art, but any place that makes you feel pressure to adjust to the opinions of the majority isn't a good place for debate. Karma is completely against the nature of debating, and I say it as somebody who would rarely have the energy to be a contrarian anyway.

It depends on the subreddit. Some are more tolerant and open than others. But yeah expect unpopular opinions to get downvoted

Not really, People on reddit aren't the brightest. I only use it for finding new anime images rather than actual discussion.

Relatively decent in that usually the absolutely braindead opinions actually get downvoted so I don't have to lose a few brain cells on them unlike on MAL.

I've never personally had a good discussion there. You would be surprised how everywhere else on the internet but here, people clench their butt cheeks and clutch their pearls the minute you want to lay into a discussion. And there's always another soapbox, the worst thing is when it's a generational soapbox, gen-x and z always be like that.

I don't know why there aren't good discussions specifically on r/Anime. It's all voting for the best anime this or anime of the season or week, and the tallies are often quite rotten. Most are sol or romance. They're just shows that I think most people wouldn't be interested in. I suspect it's Asians, or maybe it's women, who dominate the tallies. Either way, I never find myself agreeing or interested in the tallies. They seem to be pop flavors of the week.

So, kind of the opposite of western taste in my view. I would love to see a poll of who their main users are because I'm always confused by their tally results. Age, gender, nationality.

Reddit was cool for a while and now it's heavily moderated and people spaz if you go against the majority. As it always is on the internet, every site is a specific fan site, and those people carry their bias heavy.

Mostly they just seem very excited and into their popular anime of the moment, which I find almost no use for as a recommendation model.

if it's between 20-30 ppl max, it can be a good discussion, if it's 100+, you'd just get lost, also a lot of reddit users pander for too cool for school vibes to get upvotes and the moderators are cucks calling Tyrone daily for a home visit for their girls
