not sure how to feel about it. it seems like too many things happening at once. and they didn't take time to properly explain certain things, like the magic, transformation, assassin organization, and the merge of history of Japanese and British (i'm assuming?)

Pacing of this episode was a bit, weird and the story wasn't the most obvious but the action and art style was just perfection. Also I love the 1930's Japanese style with Victorian Elements. Can't wait for the 14th to see the next episode.

Has a 8.60 mean score

Pretty confusing as we're just thrown right in with little to no explanation, but I think I more or less got what was going on. Helped to read the series description again after too. XD Bring on the beast fights!

Visuals were incredible and that whole beginning section was fantastic. Directing, narrative and characters still haven't really connected with me so I'm hoping this series doesn't continue to go downhill and gets better. But it's only been one episode so I suppose only time can tell.

I love the atmosphere and aesthetic which is a positive sign thankfully

I had some hopes for this show because it somehow made me think of Blood+, and I can honestly say the first minure or so did deliver on that front.

The rest, however, fell short.

Everything I wanted from this, Mars Red seems to be doing quite a bit better, though I will stick around to see if the princess can change my mind.

I like the sketchy linework in the art style. Good enough episode to keep me interested for a few more episodes.

I guess this could be the Seinen version of Kemono Jihen or something.
The snake guy, Janome is the one who killed her brother.
Then who is this little girl she has to take care of and what did she try to do at the end!

If Mars Red was an anime, it would probably play out like this.

It looks nice, but mostly when there isn't any movement. The opening sequence was the best part and that was only 30 seconds. Neither Hana, Tsuki, Yuki, or Chef Moe made much of an impression on me. Really only tolerated the whispering dude in the basement.

Lowkey feels like some senseless Gonzo shit from like 15 years ago. Not sure if that's a bad thing yet. A lot more edge than I was expecting.

Artstyle looks incredibly beautiful, really love how blue is used. I already listened it's entire soundtrack since it was released early on spotify, got some favorite tracks as well. The voice definitely sounded a bit off like her screaming. The premise looks more advanced for a meiji era show, oh and it seems it's not really meiji era. Plot is fine for me for a first episode. They really left that cliffhanger for a two week long wait mmgh.

Visuals were great.
Music was alright.

The plot was your average "Someone killed my family, so now I want revenge." stuff.
I hope the plot gets better because this isn't it, chief.

Strong female lead. Nice artwork. Nice transformation/ costume change. Good fight scenes. This is pretty interesting. I wonder who are they working for, who's the boss giving them orders?

This looks like it has potential to be a pretty solid show. This first episode was super engaging and had a pretty nice amount of really well drawn /animated intense scenes.

Yeah, but I mentioned in the episode thread how it didn't feel like an anime to me.
I think it was the lack of lightsaber swords, idk.

Visuals are good, but that's about all positive I can really glean from this opening episode (that and the RAS song at the end, of course). Lots of stuff happening without much in the way of context or explanation of any kind, other than the fact that it seems like it's heading towards being a fairly typical revenge story with supernatural elements and possibly a bit of "monster of the week" thrown in too. The characters leave very little impression either, though I'm curious why exactly the loli seems to want to kill our MC.

Pacing and general direction feels very off, but I'll give it another episode or two to see if things improve in that regard.

I'm interested. Soundtrack has a cool feel to it and the Animation, albeit not the finest, fits the theme.

Just when Sawa-san was told not to take her personal feelings into account. Can't blame her though, it was a good twist especially after that little flirt in the beginning lol.

Here's to hoping this gets enough episodes to flesh out the story...

Ufotable animation, is that you?

Another confusing introduction after Mars Red. Well this time I like this more than the other one. The artstyle is quite artistic that really fits the anime but that fight scene though.. I swear that I see some demon slayer animation in there

Hope they improve the plot in the next one, cuz it's going nowhere. 7/10 for starters. I'll keep an eye on this one..

Not every female transformation show is mahou shoujo. I don't understand at all why normises are constantly trying to call such shows as one. Is it due to some desire to consider yourself a fan of magical girls?

I'm a sucker for those early japan settings, redlight district and all that
and the visuals look very good, but animation is okay-ish,I guess we were treated to high tier animation lately, that honestly everything looks below average now
but this is a new studio with not much ''budget'' i guess so it's okay,
I like the mature atmosphere of the show tbh the characters edgy af which is cool for now, as for the story, looks like a revenge story...not much is in it early on, but secret organizations, assassins, spies conspiracies...sign me in!
I'll definitely stick with it and see for it goes the episode is 4/5 for me!

Good start, although for me it was not easy to differentiate between the intro of a beginning and the beginning of the episode, more than differentiating was very forced. The "Magic Girl" transformation does not go with the theme, I know it is not as such but they did not focus on visible changes like color and flames on her face, I only saw feathers, fire and a naked woman

It has a good repertoire of voices, the quality of the animation is good, the buildings excellent but lacks fluency, we will see how this anime progresses that has an interesting plot

Humans may have two eyes, but we can only see one thing
Don't use the scores to see an anime

Sawa sure looks similar to Saya Kisaragi (mostly the movie version).

A promising start, but also somehow all over the place. I'm curious if it will manage to combine all its elements to a coherent whole.

Strange, I thought most people were familiar with the original manga. But as it turned out, people know so little about this that they even try to accuse the work of using clichés that Lady Snowblood itself created.

I'm a sucker for anime that has historical set pieces so I decided to give this anime a shot. First of all, I the setting taking place in alternate version of the Meji era and the discovery of that new resource allows Japan to advance some of their technology before the Taisho period. The visuals look awesome too and I like how the animations transitions to the art style of the Meji era. So basically this is a supernatural spy thriller with a revenge plot.

This was probably the Anime I was most excited for this season but sadly this first episode was quite underwhelming. I really like the Animation and the setting of the show but the story so far just does not interest me. I'll probably give it another episode or 2 just to see if it gets better but so far it was kinda disappointing

This show seems nice enough, but I feel like it's missing something. Something that could elevate beyond what, right now, seems to be a fairly generic assassin AH story. While I like the designs of the characters, it seems little to generic for the setting it's portraying. I feel going for a more outlandish design would've helped it's cause more. Also, why is the sister character also an assassin? I hope that's just a bait-and-switch, because this series does not need another god-awful cliched moment like that.

Having said that, I don't think anything's beating this when it comes to sheer visual flair and style. Absolutely beautiful. I hope this does better, because it's got potential to be a slobberknocker.

Not gonna lie, I found it kinda butt.

When it comes to the action, I will take full blame in my disappointment. I saw the trailer and thought it was reminiscent of Demon Slayer, and I unknowingly created expectations from that. I found the action kind of mid, but I don't actually hold that against the show because I can't tell if that's my assessment after my expectations that I really shouldn't have had, or if it really was just kind of mid. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Visuals were fine. Artstyle was cool, the environment is actually pretty great, it might be a bit cliche but I still enjoy the older Japanese aesthetic mixed in with futuristic tech. Demon people animal hybrids is another cliche that despite it all, I still very much enjoy.

I really hated the dialogue and characters though. The characters did not utter a single unique piece of dialogue and instead only used lines you could find every single character of their archetype spouting off in every other show with that archetype. I was given absolutely no reason to latch onto these characters, despite the fact that this is just a first impression the show now has an uphill battle for me specifically just because of this. These were some really bog standard lines, revenge driven main character talks exactly like you'd expect a revenge driven main character, snarky guy is snarky and shows no personality, flirty woman does nothing but flirt and whose only lines involve generic flirting. They don't need to completely avoid generic lines like these, but they need at least some unique dialogue, I just need to feel like these characters aren't interchangeable with others from different shows.

I actually didn't have much of a problem with the pacing. Wasn't amazing but it wasn't bad enough to bother me. It didn't feel hard to understand due to the pacing, it was a bit too vague with everything but I don't blame that on the pacing.

I only need the next two episodes to at least be a 2.5/5, I need a reason to give this show more of a chance after the first 3 episodes. If it shows growth then I'm probably gonna watch more than just 3 episodes. I really don't want this to end up being a show I want to drop because I was actually kind of excited for this one before seeing this first episode.

Good and pleasant animation in conjunction with an execution that I found not very outstanding or even risky in terms of history.

At first it caught my attention, since it seems like a demon and samurai anime more aimed at the seinen, which makes it particular. However, the introspective of the characters appeared suddenly with empty situations in the background. In addition, the mystery of the show is based on starting the situations without context to form a enigma.

I have doubts that it is a promising anime, but I think that everything can be worked out as it goes.

3/5; somewhat regular.

That was a pretty great first episode! The visuals are so good and they nailed the atmosphere of the era the show is set in and the soundtrack definitely helped with that also. I probably would have understood some things better if I knew Japanese history. I have only been introduced to Raise a Suilen in Assault Lily Bouquet, but boy do they make bangers and this show is no exception.

Very interesting premise, Yuki's revenge is probably looking for her brother or family's killer. Then they are in a secret organization, but we don't really know what their goals are yet and what the hell are those monsters. I have a lot of questions, but I am digging the show right now like Mars Red, hopefully both shows keeps it up. Really looking forward to the next episode.

I'm intrigued to see where they go with this. I'm going to hold off on any serious judgment, since this is the first episode for crying out loud. An interesting start by a pretty much unheard of studio(?) unsure if they're new, a split, or a studio that simply hasn't helmed a series before. If anyone knows, that'd be great.

Only real thoughts I have is that the story pretty much can't be judged right now, so I'll probably give it 4ish episodes before I put any real though into that. Also, the art style/direction is a little all over the place? It looks super clean, but I can't tell if they're trying to do a split art style between combat and normal scenes since there were a few scenes where the combat style seemed to bleed into the normal scenes before disappearing.

Nothing major though, so I look forward to seeing where they decide to take this show

the art is an eye candy, but the story feels so cliche and rushed it's like watching anime abridged. they tried to shove way too many things into this ep to hook the viewers, but rushing dramatic / serious stories like this just makes them come off as shallow and immature. "heavy"-type feelings need time to properly develop in a regular viewer above age 15.

i'll maybe watch another ep to see if the pace slows down a bit. if i really feel like it.
