Honestly, I couldn't tell you why. I honestly think its because manga readers normally hype up their show becoming an anime and that hype gets carried to anime onlys. But, similar to deca dence, akuma drive lacks that foundation of fans already. I think one of the only reasons why Deca dance may have gotten very popular was because it was in a season where there were not many airing anime. But thats my take on it.

I have seen no advertisements for this anime, or any form of marketing to be honest. I more or less accidentally stumbled onto the trailer. I think that‘s also a factor as to why it‘s got so little attention or hype built around it.

Probably Danganronpa fanbase haven't yet discovered this title. I personally started watching AD, after I'd seen it in a meme

Anime Original generally suffers from this problem unless it comes out from some big Studio and advertised properly. Having no fanbase before it airs is a big reason for it's low popularity. Even Deca-dence did better in terms of popularity where I saw more people talking or watching the show here and on reddit. This Season is filled with so many shows andost of them are good, and so some shows are slept on

I've seen many people recommend this show on reddit. That is the reason why I started watching it today. I don't think the rating for this anime is bad, 7.72 is really good.

Could be the art style or trailers turning people off watching it. Both trailers were extremely offputting to me in frustrating ways and I don't really find the art style appealing.

I'll still be giving this show a watch at some point since it's been recommended to me by trusted sources but if it hadn't been I probably would never have watched it.

I’m absolutely in loooove with this anime. It’s different from Great Pretender, but also reminds me of it in some ways and I loved that show.

I hope it’ll pick up, and probably will do via word of mouth.

I feel like the main problem is Funimation making this exclusive to their streaming service which most anime viewers don’t have. They don’t even share the license to this anime with Hulu even though they have a partnership.

Majority of anime fans pirate animes so that wouldn't be a problem for them.

Yeah, same writer and character designer. Basically, one of the studios that made AD is TooKyoo Games, founded by ex-employees of Spike Chunsoft... Well, lots of intersections.

Just start watching and you'll see.

I actually think it's overrated tbh. Everyone seems to be talking about it and it has a pretty high score, but I'm having a really hard time to get invested in this.

I completely agree, also the main character is a typical whining lady in trouble that happened to end up in the middle of action just because, cuz plot convenience... Not to mention the lack of any captivating plot really. All this show has to offer so far for me, is a great art style and cool looking action scenes. Sadly that's not enough for me to stay invested.

Fine like this. Could make some noise and people would come to see self-injected hype, then they would leave with a negative impression. "Don't you like it? No need to watch anymore". At least, this anime should be safe from undeserved 1s and 0s.

I would disagree. I think that Akudama and Moriarty are by far the best shows of this season yet haikyuu is sitting on 8.6 bcz of its past seasons while jujutsu is somehow 8.25!! Much like KnY reached 9 but deserved no more than 8.5/8.6

I don't know, probably has to do with the fact that Hulu is the only one that owns the rights and that it hasn't been marketed in at all. I only found out about it because I was scrolling through the fall season and I picked it out instantly. It just seemed like my perfect kind of anime, but if I hadn't looked for it myself I would have never found this gem ;(

I mean it's good for me cuz I have Hulu but a lot of fans don't. Sorta like Vinland Saga, a lot more people would have watched it if it was on crunchy roll. Not everyones gonna have a prime video subscription.

Even Hulu themselves hasn't categorized the anime properly or recommended it on their platform. It's supposed to be in the simulcast section but I have yet to see it appear there yet.

Honestly guys I'm more pissed that we're only getting twelve episodes and four are already out! Shows like this need more eps ;( I can't guys.

Any other anime with this ep count and I wouldn't have cared; but this is so good!

Underrated? It's way overrated in my opinion. The backstory is a mess, the plot is weak, and the characters are boring clichés, 5/10 at best.

Unlike Manga or light novel adaptations, original anime like Akudama Drive or Deca Dence doesn't have a fanbase ready to advertise the show or help with the popularity by word of mouth at the start. It takes time to build a fanbase and that is exactly why original shows are riskier than an adaptation. If you think it's underrated, then recommend it to your friends to spread the word.

It's the opposite for me. Pretty surprised it was scored as high as it was (not that I care much about scores).
Seems like another style over substance one. The first episode had weak narrative and characters. Although I usually give anime more than 1 episode before I drop them, I've had no urge to watch anymore episodes.

The parts that have Kodaka's influence are good. Like the interludes with the two cartoon characters that have such sarcasm in them. But the dragging action scenes, etc, are kinda tiring.

i'd say underWATCHED yeah but underrated? idk, its already doing pretty damn good for an anime based on nothing and has nothing to help it get popular, outside of the name of the creator of Danganronpa attached to it.

This seems like one of those sleeper anime every season that people wont realize the true value of until a few months or years from this point. Personally I'm enjoying the heck out of it (When I heard that the people who made Danganronpa made this) I was already onboard the hype train and safe to say this anime keeps delivering week after week.

After 8 episodes, I dare say it's both underrated and underwatched.

Like for example, Jujutsu Kaisen. Pretty uninteresting plot, not original. Then there's the typical happy-go-lucky "brave", "special" main character (like a copy past of Goku or that God of Highschool guy). After 3 episodes I couldn't even continue watching, it felt so cringe. I even tried reading the manga to see if it's better but it's basically the same thing... Gets a rating of 8.4 as of today.

Akudama is sitting at 7.7-ish, seems underrated. Maybe people cyberpunk is a niche genre. Heck, dystopia as well might be niche too. The first episode for me was meh but episode after episode it never lets down. The characters are not the tropey, easy-to-like ones. I personally don't dig any of them but I do dig that they are real outcasts. And there are so many new conceptual aditions to the cyberpunk genre. The social commentary is also a gem.

Four episodes in, and I am seeing a lot of bombastic action and visual overload. Unfortunately, they did not spend equal attention to the dialogue, plot, or substance.

Someone else said "style over substance" and that is precisely what I'd also say so far.

The show is really good but marketing for the show was really poor.
Unless you are really tied to the community there is no chance you will get to know about this show which is a real shame.
I hope it gets more praise by the time it finishes its airing.

Honestly the premise is really good but the anime adaptation lacks in many departments.
Animation is lackluster, use of sounds in various scenes is really and overall the anime narrative as a whole seemed boring.
But the manga is really good. Definitely a must read if you loved death Note.

I thought the adaptation was great. They even have color-coded internal monologue and suitably dramatic music for the big showdowns. Maybe there are some minor technical issues that haven't bothered me. They often don't.

Also, I don't think it is straight-up Death Note but something different. I feel like it focuses more on the moral consequences of actions than constructing unrealistically complex mind games. That said, there are still quite a few mind games there.

Behold one of the lamest reason given by fanboys, You don't like it because it's complex and your small brain isn't capable of understanding it. Maybe your brain is small to see how dumb the other kids are and how that pink haired Loli gets away by doing anything
