I watched DBZ when I was 4. While super isn't groundbreaking, it was still incredible satisfying watching goku and frieza team to try and save the universe.

This probably wasn't the first anime I watched, but it's the first I had any interest in. Tenkai Knights, it aired on Cartoon Network six years ago. It never got me into anime though, and I mostly forgot about it.

After rediscovering it two years ago I still haven't finished it. It's nothing special, just a light hearted action show for teens ment to sell toys.

I watched Madoka Magica. I thought it was unique, and definitely unlike any show I've ever watched. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and the plot got me good.

Black Butler. Still am super nostalgic for it, but it's hard to go back now knowing that it's kinda maybe a yaoi- or at least a lot of people view it that way... I was like 10 so I feel like my childhood is being ruined with all the posts I see about it now T_T

Dragon Ball Z and it was like "Damm they're fighting!. Whooo there is blood!"
Context: I was 7 years old and the only animated thing my parents let me watch were Disney movies.
Thanks Japan, you saved me.

For me, I think it was the .hack liminality OVAs that came with the game series on PS2. I hardly remember them though since i was 10 or so when i saw them, but I believe they're pretty rare nowadays to get physically.

I think the first anime I watched was the 1980 version of Astro Boy when I was a kid. I don't watch that series anymore, and I didn't fully get into anime until earlier this year.

Probably Mach GoGoGo or Gatchaman

But I'm pretty sure the first one that I watched with awareness that it was a Japanese show (and that they were trying very hard to hide that fact) was Sailor Moon, a show that I am currently rewatching (I think for the first time in the original unedited format)

Transformers G1 Season 1 and the animated film I suppose, but I had no insight into the franchise being this joint Japanese-American thing because I was like 3 lol.

First time I watched something and was aware it was Japanese was when my mom told me Voltron some other shows were from Japan.

First time I watched something and realized I wanted to know more about anime in general was after watching Akira on SciF Channel in 6th grade. I had known of it from a very young age after seeing the VHS box art featured in this catalog of foreign films my mom would get in the mail every month- but I was always too scared to ask her to buy it for me because it said for adults only lol.

Elfen Lied... A friend recommended it to me like 14 years ago and since then I've been hooked. Watching an anime girl slaughter everyone was interesting enough haha. My friend stopped watching anime at that time and I was like wtf is wrong with you, anime is great.

i got a three-level answer to this.

the very first anime i don't really remember but it's probably Maya the Bee. But back then i didn't really know it was anime.

then the first anime that i watched knowing that it's anime is Hetalia the Axis Power. I heard there's an animation about nations being adorable chibi people, i had to watch that.

but the anime that hooked me on the medium, my gateway anime, is Space Patrol Luluco. Love that crazy and erratic show.

I consider the 1st anime I watched to be The Vision of Escaflowne. Back in '98 or '99 some friends of mine started an anime club at our high school, and we would watch a few episode of Escaflowne on VHS every Tuesday at lunch.

That's not counting dubbed shows that aired on network TV in the 80s and 90s. Including them, my 1st anime would have been reruns of either Speed Racer or Transformers (if we count it as anime), or maybe Digimon or Pokemon, since I barely remember those old 80s shows and didn't really watch them regularly. I never really considered those old dubbed shows as proper "anime" though.

I watched Pokemon, when I was a child. I didn't really watch it, like, as a series, like my anime watching style now. I more or less watched whatever was airing on the TV. Nonetheless, it was one of the pillars of my childhood.

If you ask me what was the first series I actually watched and completed, I'd say Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry (don't worry, I was already a teen by then hahaahaha). The romance part just hooked me, man, and those fantasy sequences set off my being an otaku!

doraemon or dragon ball or pokemon.

(mini quizz for anyone who knows) an anime where a girl flies on a big dog with a big pair of ears (like terriermon but no sharp edges at the end). This little girl is a small brown color girl that flies across a forest. There is also could be a hint of magical dust sparkles as they fly or it could be that there's a little pixie following them too as they fly.

This anime short clip is shown whenever dragon ball is on break for commercial. I didn't watch it much back thenbecause it looks childish but I would give it a try again if somebody knows.

The first anime I ever watched was Pokemon, but the anime that got me into watching anime was Angel Beats.
Long story short I randomly stumbled upon a funny moments video of Angel Beats on youtube and decided it was worth watching and looking into. Every since then I have watched anime regulary.

Dragon Ball Z when I was a kid. Although I disliked it because I didn't understand the show until much later. Now there's too many episodes for me to really want to watch when I have other anime I'd much prefer catching up on or watching.
