Generic. The resources in the industry could have been better spent elsewhere.

Cool, looks like another remake. Sounds like it'll be an adventure-based anime.

Will keep an eye on this for now. Damn, the Seiyuu cast is strong for this though, I must say.

Toei Animation will have a lot of long-running shows to keep up then in the form of One Piece, Digimon Adventure and possibly this along with World Trigger 2. I'm not saying that it's not possible but it's hard to imagine consistent animation at the very least, I reckon.

ye but Toei is the biggest anime studio though so they have the talent for it with how many long running anime they do each year so what they need is more time or good production schedule which the covid-19 can hopefully provide since this pandemic mainly affects the voice department part only anyway but the key animation is still can be done online

It’ll still be pretty taxing on the Studio, I feel. But well, only time will tell I suppose.

By the way, I forgot to mention earlier but it’s very pleasing to see that Hayashi Yuuki-san will be composing the music for the series. At least the ears will be blessed in the worst-case scenario...

It's Dragon Quest, DQ is basic, you're watching for a simple, no thrills, fun romp that's still satisfying.

bruh, this is what inspired all of them. the whole RPG-esque fantasy anime/manga was popularized by this very game. this is adapted from manga that are official adaptation of motherfucking dragon quest. a classic game which inspired lot of mangaka after it. educate yourself.

How does this factual information contradict what I said? This is 2020, not 1990. Generic stories will remain generic whether you feel nostalgic about them or not.

it's called novelty . while it's generic nowadays, it wasn't back then. in fact, this series is what become trend starter that the series it self lost it novelty by series follow it afterwards. you are being anachronism.

this series happen because there is new Dragon Quest franchise announced. there is something new, so they made new anime to attract new audience and pleasing older audience. it was very looked forward by japanese audience. Dragon Quest was number 1 trending in japan yesterday, surpassing any recent anime announcement.

Dai in tokusatsu means :
1. Dai dai dai henshin (Ex-aid)
2. Dainaman (Dynaman)
3. Dairanger (or Staranger in international version)

And Daibouken is a word when the singer (Hiroki Takahashi) used it in Dragon Ball op song

Anyway to the context of the thread. It's a classic so will give it a look maybe with the Toriyama art style it will stoke some love for old DB to add to my enjoyment. Never played the DQ games but I am up for hopefully a decent sword and sorcery story. In the meantime I might check out the original before it comes out. Curious since this series has a large influence on the industry.

I heard that Troriyama is not involved with Dragon Quest Dai even though he did some of the character designs for the Dragon Quest games in the past.

to summarize, Toriyama do lot of character design (not all) for dragon quest game (the first up to IV). the manga adaptation while didn't drawn by toriyama, was very faithful to game. anime adapted from the manga. so toriyama resemblance was intentional.

it need to be noted by the time toriyama working on dragon quest, DB wasn't popular yet. he is more known by previous work, Dr. Slump, which not an action series. so the action and plot design from dragon quest was original. when first DQ: Dai no Daibouken finally subbed (which DBZ already popular by then), lot of people called it DB toriyama rip-of, which very very completely untrue.

also yes, this series currently sit on top 30 of top manga sales of all time.

It does look decent though I am worried about the overall product.

With that said, this looks like it can be pretty enjoyable.

I'm not into Dragon Quest but I did played DQ3 and so far the game was good of an RPG. It's just that I need to continue with it.
