#95. Read a manga that is not ranked.

So can I add something that has no information on mal at all? (meaning it doesn't have its page)

That's a clever thought, but it would be bypassing the system. Not Ranked means the ranking must say N/A. So no, it has to be listed on MAL for that.

On January 15, I got to know about the 2020 Manga Reading Challenge.I decided to start reading mangas for the challenge. But somehow I forgot to sign up for the challenge.

I finally recallled after a month that I hadn't even signed up yet.So I posted the sign up form immediately.

I wrote January 15, 2020 as the beginning date even though I signed up for MRC in February.Because if I didn't,a lot of the mangas I had read in January couldn't be included in the challenge list. That would've been a waste.

Will this deed of mine cause any problem?

No, it won't cause a problem. The challenge period is the same for everyone, regardless of when they sign up. You are safe. :)

Read a manga that appears when putting in your username. - Advanced search, skip/exclude Hentai, Yaoi, Yuri if you wish - Add the following url to your form (replace both YOURUSERNAME with your username): YOURUSERNAME

Can I pick any manga from the first page search results even if it's at the bottom of the page?

As long as it is somewhere on the page, it's fine. It might be an advantage to take a screenshot of the whole thing, i.e. in case other titles might get added and it changes position. :)

My post number when I posted the sign up form for MRC was 401.But it changed to 400 possibly because someone deleted their post or for other reasons.

Should I keep my initial post number 401 or should I change it to 400?

It's fine if you keep your initial number. We will change it accordingly ourselves, once we get to your form for inspection. :)

Hi! Just to be sure about this:
"May I use webtoons and/or ongoing manga?"
Sure, just remember that if they are ongoing, you must be up-to-date with the latest chapter (either raws, scanlation or printed version) when you post your turn-in.

If an ongoing manga has Y raw chapters and X of those are scanlated when I turn-in, it'll be fine if I only have X read chapters?
Adding to this, what should the finish date for those ongoing manga be?

Yes, you'd be fine with the X translated/available chapters read. Just make sure you are up to date with it at the time of your turn-in.
You can either put something like "Ongoing" or the date of your turn-in as finishing dates for ongoing/not fully available titles.

Hey hey! I'm in a bit of a situation where I'd made this account a while ago but hadn't gotten around to using it until now - and, naturally, figured the Anime/Manga 2020 challenges would be a great way to do so.

That means I've done tons of reading but just haven't gotten around to adding them to my manga list yet, regardless of whether they were done this year or not. Would signing up with a vastly lower 'Completed Manga at sign-up' count affect the challenge in any way? Or could I just input the >10 count I've got at the moment and be fine when I get around to adding read titles into my list down the track?

Uhh, you probably already know this, but I accidentally put in the wrong ID Number for All You Need Is Kill (accidentally typed 62997 instead of 62887), fixed my original post

Hello! For this item: #54. Read a manga with a non-Japanese main character that takes place in the real world.
Do half-Japanese characters count? I presume no?

And for #13. Read TWO manga by the same author.
Do the Start and End dates have to be the same for the two manga?

So, we have #13 that is "read TWO manga by the same author".

I read a volume of short stories by Yuuki Obata to complete item #1 and recently read another manga from her.

Can I mark #13 as completed too even if one of those is already in another item? Or... should I read another manga from the same author?

Only one entry for one specific section. You can't use the same entry more than once. So yes, read another manga from the same author.

If I dropped some things from my completed list during the challenge, making my final completion count too low (for example, if I started the challenge at 100 completed, pruned 5 manga, and finished the beginner challenge at 105) should I make a note of that on my entry? Or just leave it?

Leave a note (i.e. linking to this post would be sufficient). I imagine those manga were completed before you started this challenge and thus not relevant for the challenge per se?

Yeah it was just one shots that were merged into anthologies, nothing for the challenge.

I had a quick question.
Do I need to read all the volumes of manga that are out to be considered being done a certain challenge or can reading one volume count as being done that certain challenge?

Also if I would need to read all the volumes that are out. Would it be okay if I only need what is out in English for the volumes?

Thank you,

You have to read the titles completely/be caught up with the latest release*. You can't just start a manga, read one out of X volumes and see the item as completed. You'd have to be caught up with the series for it to be valid.

*Depending on your source (i.e. digital service like Manga+ or whatever vs physical) you only have to read of what's available for the source. So if you want to read Kimetsu no Yaiba for example, you'd either have to be caught up with Ch. 202 as of this moment (available via Manga+ for example) or with Vol 11 in print (english release, other languages may vary). So if you rather read something in print, you'd have to be caught up with the latest released volume/chapter.

Hope this clears things. :)

So for #13 ["Read TWO manga by the same author"], I read Goshujinsama to Issho and Goshujin-sama to Natsuyasumi but in both of them whenever I try to add to my list it just gives me a "this manga is pending approval" note.

Do they still count?

Yes, they do count.
With approval pending-titles it might be better to use a different database for listing them though (in this case i.e. anilist lists them both). Since we can't always guarantee that pending entries might get merged together or not, or being declined or whatever. If they are separate entries on another database, they usually count.

Putting in the dates and linking to the manga entries there is sufficient enough. If you want to link to your profile on Anilist or make a screenshot with your name, you *can* do that, but you don't have to.

Since we allow users to use mangaupdates, etc. as well (where it's difficult to tell), we usually trust them that they actually read the manga. :)
