Enemy of this episode be like:

The fight was great. Visuals were great, Koyasu's derranged voice acting is always nice to hear and Tanjiro's abilities are dope as heck. If the series keeps this level of fights, it may end being a solid candidate for the anime with the best fights of the season (and maybe the year). Looking forward the next episode.

There's literally zero animation tho.
They only show some supersonic speed slashes, so they actually don't have to animate the whole block at all.
And there's weird CGI floating around.

Aaaaah that was a very pleasant "boss" fight !

I really thought these kids who helped Tanjiro last episode were just hallucinations or spirits... looks like I had felt somehow the truth. However I doubt we will see them again after the monster was defeated, they kinda acted as spirits awaiting their revenge (even if they appear in the opening).

Great episode, I really hope we will meet new characters next week !

That's one creepy demon, so Sabito & Makomo were killed by this ugly MF :( so sad.

The animation is so good! That Water sword arts looks so damn good in that style of animation, gonna look forward to see the other sword arts that Kimetsu no Yaiba has to offer us!

After 4 episodes I can say that this is by far my favorite of the season!

It's so sad to think that the masks Urokodaki gave his students for good luck, were the reason why 13 of them got killed by this vengeful demon... I really want him to learn that fact.

Really goofy episode that is really only carried by the incredibly JRPG inspired ost.

Like I am quite sure I heard these songs in Tales of Zesteria and God Eater, lol. Like, I need this OST badly.

The dead kids still speaking and such needs to be explained especially how they are connected to Tanjiro.

Couldnt get into the demon fight at all, its just plain goofy design, the lightning hides how badly designed it is, and its pretty lame personality wise.

Tanjiro also says an attack name but his mouth doesnt even move. What was up with that?

Since this was going the HxH Hunter exam route, I wish other participants got their personalities, and we also had more extensive testing instead of just defeat the demon type of afterthought thing.

Welp, ufotable is actually well-known for not having any real movement.
They use a lot of effects (mostly lightning effects, as in Fate), and they don't really animate anything. It's kind of tricky as you only see the begining of a swing -> here goes sonicspeed movement > and now it's done. There's like zero animation mid-air.

These days they just do cut out scenes instead of actual movement.
Posting a gif, since people are blind, apparently:

The thing is, you don't really see what's happening on the screen.
It's even harder see a thing with some retarded lightning effects they love to use.

Anyway, this shit is kind of weak compared to animation from good studio, like Bones.
And you can expect some bad changes to the source material. God Eater was butchered. Tales of Zestiria was just awful.
Actually, I can't think of any good TV adaptation from ufotable. Not gonna complain about UBW, since that game was already shit.

That was a great episode for real! Tanjiro is really growing strong and it's the first time I've seen a water style MC user. Damn he's impressive.

I think this series is great and surprised it isn't in the top 5 in rating. It certainly the only great thing about this season not counting the sequels or Carole and Tuesday/Megmell. But I personally doubt I will hate it.

damn, these fights scenes looking nice.

This show looked great from the start but I was a bit off about the pacing. It feels like this episode was near perfect though. Beautiful action scenes, great character designs, growth for Tanjiro, just an amazing episode.

Only things that felt off were how few frames some of the action had and a couple seemingly awkward pauses.

Regardless, this is my favorite show this season.

Smelling your enemies attacks has gotta be a first. It really just makes more sense as a fighters instinct kinda thing, but I guess the author really wanted to spin the sense of smell as his op trait. Whatever, it doesn't really make a difference. His water sword attacks look very cool anyway.

It's really funny how much you're trying to grasp at straws to justify your hate-boner for Ufotable. Yes, Ufotable doesn't use as much key frames as Bones does, but nitpicking parts where they use techniques to convey motion without using much key animation while ignoring the parts where they HAVE used a lot of key animation (like the scent trails in ep 2) is not fair and really biased against them.

So what if ufotable doesn't rely on traditional animation as much as Bones does? The vast majority of anime viewers are in awe of the animation. Your idea that using digital effects and techniques to make their animation work more efficient somehow is something to hate them for is nothing more than your own personal opinion.

Even if you say majority opinion doesn't matter, animation is something that is peer-reviewed. If the vast majority loves it, its safe to assume it did something right. If the vast majority hates it, its safe to assume it did something wrong(e.g. Berserk 2017)

Stop gatekeeping what good animation should be. If people love it let them love it.

I understand what you're saying, but at the end of the day what matters the most is if it looks good and makes sense.

If you slow down the scenes, then it is easy to perceive the lack of frames, but during the action, it is almost unnoticeable. You can pick OPM, for example, apart and you will notice that quite some times they also hamper down the animation and do not go full animated frames per scene.

Animation is not just fluidity of motion and taking that into account, Kimetsu no Yaiba has amazing drawn art, interesting use of CGI and dynamic shots.

You can point at this and say ufotable is just trying to scam the viewers with eye candy visuals with no substance, but at least you have to appreciate how good and more importantly, how consistent it looks.

Having said this, Bones is one of my favorite studios (probably my favorite honestly).

Hey look, another episode where the show treats its audience like a bunch of idiots and makes it so every single character has to spew a bunch of expositoring monologues so that we can understand what's going on. Why don't you SHOW us that instead. But I guess it's easier to cut corners and have the characters mouth flap about it in the driest way possible (which is a problem in pretty much all of this studio's works).

Oh and go figure the shounen MC would brute force his way through what's supposed to be a tough enemy in less than a episode while more skilled people like the pink haired ghost dude died almost immediately, of freakin' course...

I totally agree. At least the Fate/Stay Night game had the porn to justify its existence. None of the Ufotable's excruciatingly dull Fate adaptations have that and instead is more interested in featuring characters sitting around drinking wine discussing about what feels like an middle schooler's idea about Nietzsche and Kierkegaard.

Okay, so you complain about the show treating you like an idiot. Fair enough. But apparently you couldn't piece together that Tanjirou had a RIDICULOUSLY hard training because of Urokodaki literally wanting to never let Tanjirou get to Final Selection, and that he trained his ass off for 2 years to get better which is why he's so powerful?

Tanjirou is more skilled than Sabito because he was put through a unnecessarily hard training, also Tanjirou didn't brute force his way through. It's literally in the beginning of the fight where he lets his emotions get the better of him and doesnt control his breathing and he gets bodied because of it. And your oh so hated exposition literally explained that.

You have every right to complain about the monologues and exposition treating you like an idiot, but if you can't see that you're indirectly calling yourself an idiot here I'm seriously gonna laugh my ass off.

GOD DAMN I'm really falling in love with this art style! The background art looks great and I loved that area with the wisteria flowers was beautiful. I really liked the look of those twins, the eyes especially. The water animations on his attacks are beautiful.

His fight with the giant demon was pretty cool. I liked seeing what happens with the demons when they're left to eat a bunch of people over a long period of time.

I was thinking Sabito and Makomo were Tanjiro's imagination. They ended up being more of ghosts tho? Well, cool anyways, that was quite straight forward. The way this information was presented was not smooth at all tho. It would be better off if the demon would mention them, while Urokodaki would just show that he is surprised. This way it seemed that they just spelled it out for the viewers.

Also, why do they test the new candidates sending them to survive and potentially fight against one of the toughest demons out there? Wouldn't it make more sense to make them fight against a general one? However, it's probably hard to captures demons alive, so they don't want to kill this one. And their methods were already proven to be quite harsh...

I like the fights animations. They are great. This comic book like style is amazing.
Wonder when Tanjiro's personality is going to switch if it will..?

Tanjirou is far more skilled than both of them, did you even read the sub? Or you need the english Dub so you can hear when they said "tanjirou is the man who sliced the toughest largest boulder". In KnY's world you need skill to do that, not just a brute force. Unlike those another shounen were the MC can Just destroy A Giant boulder with his Punch without any skill and just brute force.

We finally get a tease of Water Breath animation, absolutely gorgeous. I wonder how the other elements would be though.

Sabito & Makomo are both dead. I assumed it correctly last week but the causes are all wrong (LOL). But most importantly, good character comes and goes. I hope there will be another good characters coming up next. And also, I'm very curious about that Zenitsu boy. I hope he is a good character too.

It is confirmed that it will be 24 episodes long, and if they are going with this kind of good quality, I think ufotable will split it just like what they did with fate series. But yeah, by far it's very worth it.

While reviewing episode 3 I haven't read a single chapter from the manga, upon reviewing episode 4, I've read more than a hundred chapters to date. I still have forty or so chapters before I catch up but rewatching the OP credits and its visuals gives me a fair idea of how far the first half of this series will cover. It's hard to read up to a 150 chapters when I'm juggling work, watching/reading other series, books, household work, etc.

I am also guessing the future 24th episode will probably cover until a certain person's death. However, they might go the Boku no Hero route and come back with a second season since the manga is still ongoing.

Regarding this episode, I can appreciate everything even more after reading the manga. The visuals, animation, colors of their hair which I would just guess as I read along. I already figured Sabito and Makomo were ghosts/spirits before reading the manga. That fight with the final selection demon was great. The animation, his Breath of Water style was amazingly animated.

We also got a peek of Zenitsu and Zuko's distant Japanese cousin lol seeing them and of course Urokodaki hugging Tanjirou were my fave scenes.

Not sayin ufotable is epic (that is debatable), but its not shit eigther,, and besides ufotable popularity have grown from kara no kyokai and fate series esp after zero,, and in recent years they have produced amazing works too,, lost butterfly esp which came out this year,,,,, and ufotables been improving exponentially by each series,,, i would argue that its the recent years when ufotable have started producing masterpieces,,,

In the end Sabito and Makomo were spirits and they were also apprentices of Urokodaki, what a cruel way to die, poor kids, especially Makomo. My only doubt is if Tanjirou is able to see spirits or was it the work of the land where the stone was?
Tanjirou finishes his training and Urokodaki sends him to the selection.
The place where they met for the selection is very beautiful, that nocturnal landscape adorned by those trees gave it a mysterious touch and the twins that received the young participants gave me chill, they reminded me of the twins from The Shining.
Having to survive 7 days in a forest full of demons ... damn Tanjirou and the other young kids have a brutally difficult test.
Tanjirou's first challenge is to face two demons, but his training had positive and effective results, which resulted in his victory, the Breath of Water looks amazing, the animation of the water cut I loved the design and the way that was animated is awesome.
Before Tanjirou can follow his path, his nose detects a rotten smell and discovers a huge and deformed demon, which personally disgusted me, but even so Tanjirou saves another boy who was in danger.
This demon feels a deep hatred towards Urokodaki, seeing him do that tantrum when he found out what age was, it was something horrifying.
What a disgrace it was to learn that this demon was the one who killed Sabito and Makomo, but the worst was knowing that this bastard had already devoured 13 apprentices of Urokodaki, including Sabito and Makomo. What a rage it was to hear how that scumbag demon presumed as how he killed Makomo and this only infuriates Tanjirou who launches to attack, but he is easily knocked out.
Tanjirou recovers and tries to repel the demon, but his regeneration is quick, in the end Tanjirou manages to get close enough to use his Breath of Water and manages to cut off his head.

I must admit that each episode the quality of the animation and the soundtrack continues to improve, the sound work in both the soundtrack and the sound in general are of excellent quality.
I look forward to how the selection will continue.

The guy Tanjirou save said that there not suppose to be any demon which live that long in this mountain. they only suppose to fight low level demon here. the Hand Demon probably smart enough to know he stand no chance against expirience hunter so he hide here and pick on the new recruit. He said he had been there for 47 years but only had eaten like 50 people, that like super low, about 1 person a year. The Hand Demon lay low, restrain from eating too much to avoid suspicious from the Demon Hunter Coup.

Ufotable can't pay their taxes but boy they can make some anime. Really solid animation this episode, something I wasn't expecting with this artstyle either.
Don't believe the hype.
