Honestly I didn't really like Hanesaki but now I dislike her completly. I was all in for Karuoko even though her lost was obvious.

And there is something I don't really understand, are Hanesaki and Aragaki in different tournament ? Because it looked like it's the semi-final so I guess if Aragaki plays Nozomi (I think it was her name) then Hanesaki plays Connie to play the final? Or I misunderstood something?

Nozomi, Aragaki and Hanesaki in same bracket because they are in the same Prefecture. Connie isn't because she and her school are in in Miyagi. This tournament is still preliminary for National Inter-High so the chance to meet Connie is in National

i love how they are trying to pull the sympathy card for pinky especially coming from Elena. but that aint working for me, same goes for no-fucks Ayano lol. bitch got cheap by getting her sick for a "win" then came back years later and act like she did something. she got her well deserved comeuppance. one twintail down...one more to go

so looks like we finally get some Aragaki focus?...since she's like the other center of the show

I'm really curious about the last scene and what the coach saw that made him say that. I just hope it is not some injury he recognized while she was stretching because that would be kind of boring in my eyes.

I really want to have a talk with Ayanos mother. (I don't read the manga.)
In my opinion she may not even meant her vanishing to hurt her daughter but to take her possibly harmful influence on her daughter away (making her so crazy about badminton that she plays in a state that is not healthy for sports), but seriously even if that is the case and not the reasoning Ayano believes, she still made some major mistakes as a mother and might have broken her kid more than she imagined.

The thing i'm missing the most right now is more influence of Erena because for the best friend that knows Ayano since they were little she is doing to little in raining her in at the moment and she could have a way bigger healthy influence over her if she wanted to.

Heh, this show has a lot of 'forced' plot drama.

The actual matches are fun to watch though. Good animation.

If I read correctly in the manga the "cheerful" part is only at the beggining than it turns like in the anime. So instead of having a huge tone shift they decided to go with a more serious route , since the beggining, to match the later parts of the manga (not a manga reader though)

Yes, probably you are right. It seems to me that the author did not immediately understand what mood he would like for his story and / or they didn't want superfluous competition with the more entertaining Harukana in the same season.

the more 'cheerful' part of the manga still exists in some fashion; though the first three volumes are more world building and introduction it shifts to much more serious using volume 4 and 5 to do it; and yes the comedy certainly falls away and becomes far more 'serious' (But without the first 3 volumes most i know who read it wouldn't have stuck with it like them or not the first 3 volumes were key to the manga ) also... when you look at the raws you can; the level of melodrama is down; its just actual competitive serious drama (with issues) - Some of it is certainly 'similar' but.. no matter how you cut it and slice it etc; at the end of the day for the most part the only thing this anime and its manga have in common 100% is character names; physical appearances.. and the fact that they play badminton; not much else.

Dropping it because it irritates me to watch plot forced melodramaptsd with some badminton tossed weekly; gave it its chance. I mean
im sorry but everything just feels different. Because the characters ARE very different. Also still not saying her mother is mom of the year material she isn't but my god the animeup'd it 1000 fold. I also hate what the anime has done to Connies character and how it started Aragakis.

also yes as someone pointed out the anime made the 'get rekt' much less. she was destroyed in the manga. But different universes so doesn't matter lol. heck they even turned her other closest childhood friend into a random highschool friend B. with a lot less of Elena 'protecting' Ayano *shrug*

I've check manga before anime come out and Ayano madness is already apparent early there too.

This is from chap 4. This is the single panel that made me hyped for anime.

I'm glad that anime finally reach Ayano madness point.

PS: Haven't watch the episode yet but will do so after back from work.

@Lelouch0202 Honestly, I understand why Ayano is becoming a bit less likeable. The way her eyes were during the whole match is certainly creepy and also really worrying her friend, Elena, with her whole possessive and cold attitude. However, since her opponent was Kaoruko, the same girl who's been trash-talking her since she lost to her in the past and has sabotaged her before as well, it was the chase of 'What goes around, comes back around'. In this case only, Kaoruko did deserve the savage beatdown that Ayano gave her. Now that her Ayano has won against her, I do hope that someone can help her change her personality back to normal.

From what I understand, it looks like Kaoruko beat Ayanon only once because of that cold sabotage while she's lost every other time against her. Considering that's how we got introduced to her character I get why most people hate her and I'm not gonna defend what she did cause that was really low of her. That said, Ayanon has been acting really cold ever since the training camp and the match against Connie. Most people seem to be fine with the way Ayanon was acting in the match since the one on the receiving end was Kaoruko but I personally disliked the way she acted and her attitude doesn't seem to be improving as evident from the last scene. I'm under the impression that playing badminton competitively again is regressing her mental state and awakening all her past trauma. I hope someone can snap her out of it soon.

I'm counting the small match that both Ayano and Kaoruko had back in episode 3 a defeat, so that would make it two defeats. I do agree that Ayano's cold and possessed-like personality is worrying, of course not helped by her mother leaving her after that defeat to Kaoruko sabotaged her and Connie re-opening Ayano's wounds. Only Elena has really noticed this side of her so far, none of the others have really noticed her personality shift at all and she seems to be at a loss at how to help get Ayano back to normal and I doubt any help for her will happen anytime soon, which is worrying and rather annoying too. Ayano is savage as fuck, but Serigaya kinda had it coming after giving the handkerchief to Ayano.

This game was so intense and Ayano's eyes were just insanely intense. I am really on the edge of if I like ayano or not, she's really good but so cold when she gets serious. Even to her own friends she acts cold.

Given that Ayanon feels that Kaoruko's previous unsportsmanlike conduct untimately led to her mother abandoning her, I think it's perfectly human for her to want to get some back. Kaoruko gets taught a humiliating lesson, but if she's a real competitor then it will serve to make her stronger. If it makes her choke up on the asshat attitude a bit, it would do wonders for her charisma.

Ayanon's PTSD continues to exhibit. I prescribe some onsen action. Okay, that's really for me.

Were we supposed to cheer for MC's rival? I get it's to make Hanesaki look cool but it's a bit early for that, we still don't know or care much about Hanesaki to completely root for her. And hard work is totally admirable. Yes, Ayano has great talent but she was out of badminton for so long... At this point her creepy eyes aren't cool, they are just... well, creepy.

And is this sport kinda boring itself or anime is indeed not so good? I almost can't tell.

You know, there is a reason I liked sports animes, you can put dramas in it. And unlike what you guys might think, I honestly believed what these dramas here (Ayano's past aside) is really all sportsmen thought.

Try to play these games seriously and you will think the same.

Back on the show....
Dat eyes are surely my favourite, I don't know how to say it but, I like MC's of such type, being superbly confident (how to say it?) and fully believed in him/herself.

Anyway I would do the same as Kaoruko if I am in her position, such losses do hurt. 5 points ain't close in badminton but you felt it really close.

One thing though... Is it just me or the fast paced animation part kinda confusing?

I felt ominous bad thing for Aragaki in next game. Hope she won, she deserved it, I liked her personality.

Ps : Did badminton just somehow being popular in Japan recently? I see it as a positive, I never saw one like this before, AAAAND, I live in Indonesia, so badminton is basically a part of us, so to say... It really made me want to play again (although I'm not good, just a normal anime watcher afterall)

Sorry for the wall of text guys!!

There're guys saying Aragaki will wipe the floor with Hanesaki? Are you serious? Do you want it to be another stereotypical sports shounen with powerups out of left field? Because cold logic says Aragaki can't beat Ayano without Ayano MAJORLY breaking down mentally (maybe that's what her mother is there for, though). To be on top you need both talent AND hard work. Only one or the other is hardly ever enough. And Ayano has both genius talent and hard work since she's been tirelessly playing since she was a little kid, while Aragaki only the latter. There's no way Aragaki can beat Ayano without some major plot interference/contrivance.

Her mother will surely appear at a crucial point when Ayanon in her savage-mode will be at the peaks of her disrespectful behaviour. We'll surely have a speech of her mother like Ayaynon didn't progress at all and should first try to work on her mental so that's what'll put her back on her normal mode so that she can win fair and square. Or something like that imo.

Pretty intense match!

Ayano's demon mode is just too much for Kaoruko.

The anime made the match looked pretty close as compared to the manga though. Well it's OK for me coz I think it's for the respect for Kaoruko's hardwork even though she's being cocky to Ayano.

The scene were Aragaki was stretching and then Nozomi's coach watching her from the behind looks really awkward. :v
I wonder what he means by "Just as I thought. She's already finished." Injuries?

Well, I kinda want Aragaki to beat Ayano at the end of this tournament in order to change her attitude.

Also, where on earth was Ayano's mother? She appeared at the last scene from the previous episode and now she's gone again. LOL!

Looking forward to the next episode!

Enjoyed watching the match (and the animation as well) but whats up with Ayano's yandere look? (I wonder what kind of look we will see if she confront her mom?!) and that makes looks like badminton depressing game. Can't wait to see how she savage against Konnie, who deserves more than this!

The last part, the old man came out nowhere and adds new twist to the show.. (I guess the old man is the opponent's team coach!? but didn't liked how he appear when she was doing that..)
