I honestly don't know the right words to describe how I feel about this show. 3-gatsu no Lion went from a show that I put on hold early in the first season to one of my favorite series of all time now. I hate myself for doing such a thing, but I can genuinely say picking the show back up was one of the best decisions I've made in a long time.

Time and again, this show has made me tear up and smile from the bottom of my heart. It's been a while since I've felt this way about anime and I'm truly going to miss this show. I'll patiently wait and hope for a season 3 announcement, but worst case if there isn't I'll be reading the manga without a doubt.

Thank you Umino-sensei for creating a story and characters with so much heart.

This is the first time that jumped around on the chapters; started off with 97, went back to 89, and finished it with some of 91.

Was hoping to see Akari's "family" speech about Rei to her aunt, but maybe contextually, it'll be better served next season.

And, a prediction: to all you anime only folks out there, season 3(and they would be crazy NOT to do it!) will be even BETTER than season 2!

Best show I've ever seen? It's in my top three somewhere, but like I said above, season three should eclipse all of them.

Lol Rei you're such a tease xD

As much as I hated the bullying arc, I can't bring myself to give this season anything below a 9. It was just so wonderful and emotional. Well done Shaft, I hope they will make another season in the future.

Definitely MY favorite anime of all time, I don't know how to describe how amazing this anime was for me, every episode, every scene, every little moment, everything was perfect.

Shaft can't be praised enough for making Sangatsu, this is their truly masterpiece.

I hope there's plans for a third season as well.

This season was too better that the first in all terms: Direction, Art, Soundtrack, Character development, context... all.

Agreed.

This season is without a doubt, the best anime I've ever seen, hopefully we'll get season 3 in the near future

Same, I mean, the soundtrack broke me down.
I've loved the run of keeping track of this anime every week(it literally cured a depression I had a month ago...), I watched the first season really quickly, then I went to keep up with this one, after that, this season just kept getting better and better to the end I decide this is the best anime I've ever watched.

In most cases, the MAL Average Scores don't mean anything, here is a question: were the works made before 2000 all shit?
Why are they so damn scarce in the Top 50? Think about how MAL is quite literally a filtered amount of the Anime fanbase.

Here's a timeline of the Top 15 in which you can check that, almost always, the scores are affected by the freshness, popularity and other factors that have nothing to do with quality.

Brilliant! Simply a masterpiece, to sum it all up!
Easily one of the most convincing 10/10 and a well-earned spot in my top 10 favourite anime of all time.

I think there’s no doubt that this Second Season was just miles better than the First Season but let’s keep that for later. The way and the unique style in which 3-Gatsu no Lion depicted the small and often overlooked matters in life really was just fascinating. It all felt too real while watching the different characters struggling to cope up with their lives. What more, was the extraordinary power behind it interconnecting them all which, in my opinion at the very least, what made this show so compelling and powerful. Calling this show ‘powerful’ alone really is an understatement.
Across these 22 episodes, we were given enough screen time for all the main characters and even a handful of side characters, and that is just spectacular. Masterpiece rather, if you will. Coupled with the psychological and realistic thoughts molded together, we were left pondering and stunned by the manner in which each and every episode unfolded. Backing up these masterclass storytelling was the ever-so impactful Sound Department and the brilliant fluidly Art/Animation. Studio SHAFT really took it to the next level with this adaption and I’m so very thankful for that! Not to mention, it was very very faithful to the manga as well. Well done SHAFT, you beauty!

About this finale episode though, I found it very intriguing with the approach to this. It felt like a mirage of all the elements of the Season mashed up into this finale episode, or so it felt like to me. There was exhilarating Music, masterful Art/Animation and, above all, top-tier storytelling. It’s as if this is what flawless is supposed to be like, with no flaws whatsoever. Stunning stuff. I’m saddened to hear that it is time for Takahashi to leave now but I respect his decision totally. Getting into the Nationals isn’t something that’s easy. Hinata was hurt, and it was quite obvious so, but the way she still fought on was just admirable and all the more depressing. xD, her haircut in the end though and Akari’s imagination was hilarious! Hinata got bullied by her family this time around and that is just gold. Especially loved the Grandpa’s comment, lmao. It was unexpected how Rei found the hairstyle to be really nice but I’m kind of glad he did. Rei x Hinata just took like a lon march forward xD. That final end card in the end of the episode there though was just 👍.

- Storyline/Plot Development: 9/10
- Character Development/Characterization: 9.5/10
- Art/Animation: 9.5/10
- Sound Department: 9.5/10
- Personal Enjoyment: 10/10

Overall: Solid 9.75/10. .

No news of a Season 3 just yet, so I’ll be praying for one this Fall. There’s enough content, so i hope SHAFT decides to give this show another go. I really hope they do! Please kami sama! I really want a complete adaption of this beautiful story! Please! Please! Please!

I am not thoroughly impressed by some features that 3gatsu seems to focus on from time to time, but I must say... this last episode was amazing. The first part was probably one of the best stories told in this series. I dare say this episode as a whole was one of the best slice of life-ish episodes I've ever watched. Simply gorgeous art, animation, direction... everything was particularly off the charts.

+8/10

I hope it comes back soon.

Hoping for a season 3, this was a masterpiece. 10/10

I'm still letting the feeling sink into my mind that season two has now finished. It's hard to put it in words, but I'll give it my best.

This show is, without a doubt, a masterpiece.

Where season one was really enjoyable, tense and powerful, season two turned the dial of feelings up to 11 and the rest was history. Hina's bullying arc is probably the best sub-plot I've ever witnessed and watched in any form of animated medium or any programme or movie that I've watched. It was raw, emotional, powerful, realistic and utterly heart-breaking and Shaft delivered it so perfectly that my respect for them grew a lot.

Even this episode was stellar. Rei visiting his stepmother was a surprise, as was the use of still shots, but even that was brilliantly done. The direction and soundtrack made that segment of the episode really strong. =)

And, of course, the comedy moments were freaking hilarious. Hina's new hairdo is cute, but she was horrified by it at first and seeing the reactions from Akari and Gramps was bloody funny! XD

At least Rei gave her a lot or praise for it, in an amusing way that is! And speaking of that scene in particular, Hina looked really pretty in her high school uniform. ^_^

So yeah, this second season has been one hell of a journey for me. Shaft really was in top form with the strong direction, beautiful art style, very good animation and the flawless soundtrack that gave a lot of scenes more punch, from the emotional scene with Hina's bulling problems to the intense Shogi match from episode 18.

This is probably one of the easiest 10/10's I've given in my life and I made up my mind of that score since episode 12. I do hope that NHK commissions a third season sometime in the future, as this show really is a masterpiece in my opinion. =)

I still need to process this. For one, i can't believe it's already over.

This final episode was really something else, i wasn't expecting at all a visit to his adoptive family's house, i think his stepmothers monologues was one of the most sad yet beautiful moments of this season. It almost felt like it helped give closure to Rei's traumatic experience in that house and shows how much he has grown in the course of it. It almost feels like he has reached this point of 'balance' in his life and now is able to look back and face the things that shaped him both in a positive and a negative way. I also liked how even when not addressing those hurtful or traumatic experiences (both for his stepmom and for him) they understood each other in silence. And silence was precisely the vehicle to their feelings and thoughts. I was actually scared when i saw he was visiting home 'cause i thought Kyouko would make an appearance and ruin this incredible season for me T_T

Now, Hina giving 'closure' and saying goodbye to her first crush (and childhood friend) was done wonderfully. As if she has also grown so much and is ready to face a very promising future, alongside all the ones she loves, specially Rei.

The haircut scenes was brilliant and funny and when Rei saw her it felt as if he has hit by lighting or something as impactful as that. Useless to say that i was fangirling so hard with Rei's reaction and how he kept praising her all the way to school. Lovely.

Honestly, as many had said before me this season was something else. Season 1 was incredible already and i really enjoyed it, but this one it's on a whole different level. Not only for the incredible work that Shaft made with this one, the overall direction, the musicalization, the story itself but what made it even more special and meaningful for me is how much our loved characters had to face and how they nonetheless overcame it. The amount and the depth of character development was just mindblowing.

I did miss my Bodoro this season since his sickness prevent him from appearing as much as he did before T_T

This season has been on my favorite's list for a while now (i never rate nor favorite anything i haven't finished yet), and after finishing it i still reaffirm my decision.

I hope we get another season soon, i really do. As for me i'll continue reading the manga.

The first season had its issues here and there that just held it back from being a masterpiece, but this second season improved on its predecessor in every way imaginable to give us a true masterpiece. The way this show handles the serious and lighter content, as well as its movement between the two, has improved massively and it just contributed to making this such a consistently enjoyable watch week-by-week. The character development that this second season provided also massively helped in that regard, and I can't really think of a single notable character that I don't root for one way or the other (and some of the characters I've come to like and root for throughout this second season are some I never would have expected to care about in a million years, yet this season was able to make me do so with such ease).

A true masterpiece, and hopefully we'll get a third season as soon as possible. AOTY for 2017 as well, without a shadow of a doubt.

I love the last scene, it seems so lighthearted compared to the rest of the anime and that just makes the rest of it more emotional. And also how the music fit perfectly with each of the scenes. OMG THIS JUST MADE ME LOVE SHAFT EVEN MORE!!!! And I loved how Rei went over to his old house again. It really shows Rei's growth. OMG AND how Rei's foster mother was like "he was really just a good child" AHHHH the feels. This was really truly such a beautiful ending.

I'm going to miss this show so much. I thought season 1 was great, but I wasn't expecting things to improve in the ways that they did. There were many great arcs and story lines. The show does a fantastic job of evoking emotion in my opinion. There were many instances in episodes such as this one where I would go from sadness straight to elation. I hope someday we can get a season 3 for this anime! 10/10

Not only was the content Shaft was adapting was better than last season's, but the adaptation's quality went up too. Pacing, directing, storyboarding, they were all top-tier. A third season would end up being just as good since the content in the manga remains as strong.

Thanks! I remembered reading the manga like 2 years ago, but stopped reading half-way. Good to know that it's still been going on.

This is one hell of an anime though. Very deep and thorough character development (which is so rare nowadays). Great for educational purposes, not just for entertainment and profit. I can see why NHK let the public watch it for free!

No third season announcement yet... I'm gonna miss Rei & co.

As expected, this was a beautiful series in every aspect. Maybe it wasn't as emotionally charged as the first, but that doesn't at all mean that it was worse. In fact, I liked this second season even more than the first one. It gave us a lot of new characters, a lot of development for the characters we already knew, and one of my new all-time favourite anime arcs in Hina's bullying arc. I still can't say that the series is perfect, so I'll have to leave it at a 9, but damn I really hope that this comes back even better for a season 3 soon.

Easy 9/10 for me.

Counting from chapter 90 until the most recent translated manga chapter, I think there's about enough source material to be adapted into the 3rd season, and hopefully soon since there's that one arc that is just so great for Rei and Hina.

First season was incredible but this second season was literal masterpiece tier, every episode showed its thematic with visual you could die for, joined by the great soundtrack and it doesn't stop there! its very well written too, some subjects were very delicate and hard to approach (bullying) and they made it happen,i won't even talk about that final episode with its two parts that when assembled will just blow your damn mind.

This, now this is something i will remember in 10,20,30,40 even 50 years from now on,a literal masterpiece that i would die to see a third season.

Frame by frame approach in telling Rei's backstory with her mother and his visit to his former house, did a great job in presenting every emotion and meaning. I love how its presented instead of usual flow of animation, the meaning and emotions shines at every frame, with an accompanied soothing background music.

The Hina new haircut suits well with her high school uniform, well she sure looks mature on bob haircut. Watching them running around in the house looks fun. xD

Overall the show did a great job on everything, from aesthetics of animation, good choice of music scores to deliver the emotions to the viewers. Compared to season 1 which sole focus is Rei, on character development and fleshing out his character, season 2 develop and fleshed out also the other characters while still developing Rei.

This show really deserves another season, so I'm gonna really wait for it.
