Realistic doesn't mean "this applies to every person ever", it means "hey, I could see this happening and it probably does happen IRL" That's a hilarious logic, by your argument anyone who thinks fuuka or hand shakers having cheap drama are realistic can say "hey that's possible in real life! " Anyway kuzu is a much inferior version of nana, this anime touches the sensitive feelings and problems that most young people go through when they find real love/romance or fake love/romance that they don’t know how to deal with and the problems those feelings can lead to. While I appreciate the show for taking such an unusual path I cannot ignore the poor manner in which it was executed. I wish the show would have focused much more on the moral and emotional implications of these love acts, showing and thoroughly analyzing the psych of the characters rather than focusing on poor-taste sex scenes that seemed forced..without building up the characters as Fai pointed out. Having a realistic theme doesn't make it realistic execution btw. Feel free to come up with counter arguments which you have been unable to do until now. |

'Why is this close-to-hentai manga getting animated' ~ that was my very first reaction when I heard that Kuzu no Honkai was getting an anime adaptation. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the story so much. The writer took an approach of writing this series by doing alot of inner monologues, just like a light novel writings.. which happens rarely on other manga/anime as far as I know. As a comparison, the closest anime that's being made like this was.. Ore no seishun love comedy wa machigatteiru series, which is also one of my all-time favorite series. I just love these kind of anime, because I could sympathize, empathize, and imagine myself as those characters much more than the usual anime. Now then, moving on to the actual story of this anime. I never really paid any attention to the discussions of on-going anime series, so when I have just finished this and actually started to discuss this with my friends, I was honestly surprised that there are alot of impressions of this series being close to real life love situation. I have read the manga from years back (no idea how long it's been there, I remember that I picked it up when fantranslation was at chapter 3~ish).. and honestly speaking, it never occured at all on my mind, mainly because I think it is close to impossible (at least here, in my place) to get into such physical relationship as a way of escaping from love relationship problems at such young age. Everything else, including the nonsensical decision of Akane and Kanai might be able to be (arguably) explained emotionally, and I never thought of the story as weird at all.. in short, yes it could be related to real life. Except those 2 main leads' age being way too young, which ruins everything because they looked like some horny teenagers, and honestly the story would be MUCH better without it. Except if the main leads' were to be some young adults at 20-ish age. So, my conclusion is that this story was beautifully written, in regards of characters.. because, it successfully made the watchers to feel each characters' insecurities, and to imagine themselves as the characters, or at least symphatize with them. And the story also stayed true to it's theme of being 'Scum's' up until the end, but I don't think it is that relatable to real life. |

The anime started off hectic and ended hectic. Can't say that I didn't expect it to end that way and I'm happy that it did. |

In cases like these where the ending is something I am not familiar with or beyond my level to understand , it's only after reading the forums I am able to view different perspectives of looking into it. At first I had mixed feelings about the reason they both choose to be separated. But now I am closer to satisfaction.. Thanks to all the contributors here. |

everything about this anime is just absolutely perfect. I truly think this is one of the few “masterpiece anime’s” that I have seen. the ending was good and i'm glad that it doesn't forced Hanabi and Mugi together. but... I'm confused somehow! the only sane person in this show was the Kanai sensei but the author completly destroyed him in episode 11. he accept her ''hobby'' and still love her unconditionally so easily! wtf! |

pao13071 said: Idk how to feel about this one...It would make sense if they didn't end up in the ending but they fucking connected man. For once they communicated through words and there was mutual understanding , no sexual impulses involved for once. Plus it teased you a shit ton with wtf the ending will be , is he waiting for her or someone else? God idk it felt weird and rushed. Also those last words * -I don't want to-- -be apart. -I don't want to let go anymore -I want to hold you. -I don't want things to end -Don't let me go. -I don't want it to end. -But goodbye. It stung pretty hard and it took a while to go away.* Why throw all that away? I feel everybody is blinded by the fact it wasn't a cliche ending... Characters falling out of character and an ending that makes no sense...Why bond and connect in the end just to blow it off and walk away from it? It didn't feel or seem romantic just non-sensical 8/10 for me sadly :/ You should read the last episode of the manga, they completely folded two important pages of it in the anime. Before they say to each other those words you are quoting, they said things like "I adore you, I want you to accept me, I want to accept you" and also, there's a page after the hug where the artist draw Hanabi and Mugi as children holding the red string of destiny. In my opinion, this can be read into an open ending. They needed a time to heal and maybe in the future, they would be together this time for the Best. |

To all ya'll commenting about the realism. No, this show IS a little dramatic and over the top, but it is REALISTIC in terms of being consumed with emotion and romantic/physical attraction. Its about feelings between TEENAGERS (yes which includes being sexually frustrated and confused a lot). No its not perfect but its one of the best romances this season at LEAST |

I knew it, they didn't end up together. all the trouble just to get rejected. the world is a cruel place. and I can pretty much relate to some of event in this anime, even though it didn't involved sex in my case. the story is good in it's own way, but the ending didn't come out as I hoped, the arts is good too, I hope more of anime using this kind of art style. the character looks reallly beautiful. so I give it 7/10. if only it ended up with Akane x Mugi and Hanabi x Kanai, I would give it 8/10, or maybe 9/10. |

6.5/10. A masterpiece of a first half let down by an absolutely atrocious final third. I'll get why I loved the show in the first part out of the way. Kuzu no Honkai is to the teenage romance triangle genre what School Days was to the harem genre. While most other shows take a real life scenario to its most fantastical extreme, Kuzu no Honkai goes the complete opposite direction and takes it to its most logical extreme. I feel that my enjoyment of it is more due to the sad state of the industry rather than anything it did exceptionally well. It's main drawing point is that it is a rather realistic romance show, in an industry where romance is portrayed as anything but realistic. While most romance series go through its entire run without the characters ever confessing their feelings for each other, or if we are lucky, a kiss in the final episode, Kuzu no Honkai goes straight off the bat in the first episode to the characters making out with each other. In that sense, the potential for development in this series is already in an entire league than the conventional romance anime. Not to mention that saying that the show is a love triangle is a complete understatement. In fact, it is more of a love octogon. Everybody is in some sort of twisted relationship with a multitude of other characters. Of course, there are far worst scenarios in hentai, but in that case I view the characters as just fap material for someone’s weird fetish. In this case, I approach anime seriously and view these characters as very real human beings with real personalities. Unless you are the type that is unable to separate porn from other forms of visual entertainment, it is impossible not to feel for the characters. I felt the a sense of unbearable nausea when watching the show, something akin to the feeling I had when watching Aku no Hana or Shinsekai Yori. It is so much till the extent that when I watch the sex scenes, I don’t feel turned on, but rather I am on the verge of crying and screaming at the screen for the characters to please just fucking stop. It was so emotionally exhausting to watch. I had originally intended to marathon the whole series in one or two days, but it was simply too depressing and painful that I couldn’t watch more than one or two episodes in a day without needing to take a break to recover some of my emotional sanity. I spend hours upon hours after each episode ended thinking of each of the character’s emotional state and motivations. The show succeeded brilliantly in this regard. Coupled with the phenomenal OP and ED, I truly felt that Kuzu no Honkai had the potential to be one of the most revolutionary genre-defining shows of the decade. I have to question how much of “true love” Hanabi’s feelings for Kanai, and Mugi’s feelings for Akane were. To the show’s credit, they never force a definite viewpoint on the audience, and mainly just show the relationships through Hanabi’s and Mugi’s perception, leaving the viewers to make up their own minds about it. Since Hanabi has known Kanai from way back in her childhood, even before she had any sexual awareness, it is much easier to view her feelings as genuine. Yet, there is the sense that Kanai is just her idealization of the absent father figure in her life, which is poignant irony given that the entire reason why Kanai chooses Akane over Hanabi in the end is arguably because of his Oedipus complex (more on that later). Also, as much as I try to put myself in her shoes, there is no way that closing her eyes while making out with Mugi and imagining that Mugi is Kanai is an accurate reflection of “true love”. That is the very epitome of sexual desire. It would be interesting to have an analysis from a female viewer’s point of view about it. If anything, I’m a male, so I should be sympathetic of the male characters and spiteful of the female characters, but in fact I find it the other way around. While I can see why a lot of people would hate Akane, honestly it’s not as if she forced anybody to have sex with her at gunpoint. Everybody willingly fucked with her completely of their own accord and their own sexual desire. You could say that she “used” them, but everybody knew they were being used and still chose to go along with it. I can give the females some benefit of the doubt, but I'm a guy and I know when Mugi is completely talking out of his ass. Bottom line is, he puts his sexual desire first and foremost. Which is nothing wrong, and you can put on a facade for the other characters as much as you want, but it's utterly disgusting how he even lies to himself in his internal monologues. At least Hanabi openly admits that she cannot tell the difference between love and lust anymore. Akane, while easily being the most morally empty character, has never pretended from the start that she was anything more than a slut that uses men. We never have any sort of moment like this from Mugi. Regarding Mugi’s feelings for Akane, I have no doubt in my mind that it was almost completely sexual attraction. Their only previous interactions are that of student and tutor, and coming from someone that has gone through a lot of tuition classes in my life, I simply do not see how any kind of meaningful interaction can comes about from that. Just look at how many times Mugi had sex with Akane before even thinking to go on a date with her. And this is his behaviour towards a person he claims he has “true love” for. How much worst would his behaviour be towards a female he views only as a sex object? To see Mugi trying to explain away his sexual desires for Akane to himself as some kind of true love is particularly revolting, and it really makes me question how much of his internal psyche is reliable as a narrator. If he lies to himself about Akane, then how can the audience trust his internal monologues regarding Hanabi or Moka? I genuinely felt that Hanabi, while being addicted to sexual pleasure and massively confused regarding the boundaries between love and lust, was undeniably yearning for something more in her relationship with Mugi. Mugi on the other hand, had a dick in place of brains. He’s not content with just fucking Hanabi, also goes out of his way to call his childhood friend to fuck and takes advantage of Moka’s infatuation with him to make out with her. Again, sexual desire is a perfectly normal thing for a human being, but what repulses me is Mugi’s complete pretentiousness about it. The series arguably reached its high point midway through when Hanabi effectively becomes no different from Akane, trying to possess everyone who desires Akane. That is a very interesting direction I would loved the show to have taken. That everyone has the potential to become complete scum if pushed far enough. It would have been beautiful; a girl who has her “true love” taken away by a conniving slut incapable of love, eventually transforms into the very being which she hates, becoming yet another conniving slut incapable of love, and the whole cycle repeats once again. However, the last third is when all previously established characterization flies out of the window. There was a huge tonal shift from that moment onwards and the whole show went downhill till the point that I couldn’t even believe it was the same series I was watching before. There was the extremely odd decision to suddenly ditch Hanabi as the main character and put the focus on Akane. If the ultimate aim of the series was to showcase some kind of transformation from the previously unredeemable Akane, then make her the main character in the first place! Maybe then they could have crafted enough justification for the viewers to swallow her so-called “transformation”. Why do you spend 8 whole episodes developing Hanabi and Mugi’s relationship only to shaft it to the side and focus on something else for the remaining 4 episodes? So Akane, who has spent her whole life sleeping with countless men and using them for her own amusement, suddenly falls in love with Kanai because he does not mind being cucked? WTF? I think this could have been a really poignant development if only they took the time to really develop it, say gradually over the course of the entire series. Instead, we get a whole lifetime of characterisation undone in the space of a single episode. Hey, the power of love trumps all yeah? Completely out of left field. Kanai is one of the biggest cucks I've ever seen in any medium. So he is fine with marrying Akane despite her, in her exact own words, being a slut and fine with her sleeping with other men despite their relationship? This works if he is in it just for the sex, but since the show chooses not to portray his motivations that way, then what is it? The show tries to portray his love as some kind of “selfless unconditional love”, but is it really like that? If he was even in love with her personality in the first place, then why would he still be in love with her given that her façade has been exposed to be nothing but a fraud? And if he’s not in it for the sexual aspect, what is he in it for? Why does he love Akane? The answer is then obviously because she is nothing but an idealization in his eyes. This brings about the disturbing implication is that Kanai is in love with Akane solely because she resembles his dead mother. Being “in love” for the sole sake of sexual gratification is tragic and all, but because of his Oedipus complex? Fucking hell. The fact that their relationship was the only one that, at least of a surface level, worked out in the end out of the many others that failed in the series is particularly horrific. Out of all the relationships in the show, this is ultimately the most hollow and superficial one. If the show could spend a ridiculous amount of screentime on the shallow Mugi, who’s entire psyche can be summed up in three words “I was horny”, then why does it neglect the most important motivation begging to be explored; that of Kanai and his Oedipus complex? I think instead of casting their relationship as “the power of true love”, it would be much more effective if the series had explored this particular disturbing aspect, that ultimately the only successful relationship in the whole show is the biggest sham of all. Hanabi’s “development” from sleeping around unable to control her sexual urges to suddenly deciding to wait for true love is again completely out of left field. If anything, I thought her rejection by Kanai, coupled together with Mugi sleeping together with Akane, would completely drive her off the deep end. She was already sleeping around with multiple people, why does she decide to stop all of a sudden? There is no logical explanation for this. So when the possibility of a relationship with Kanai still exists, she sleeps around with Mugi, with her lesbian friend, with some random guy she bumps into at the train station, but the moment Kanai has concretely rejected her, she stops doing so anymore? Why? The entire point of her sexual relationships in the first place was to try and fill a void that was left in her by Kanai. The void is still there. For a character that was crying and one step away from a complete emotional breakdown every single episode at the start, it is unnatural how she reverts back to relative normalcy in the closing episodes for no particular reason at all. Character’s emotional states aren’t something for the writers to conveniently use and change at the flick of a switch if the plot so happens to call for it. Emotional hurt is something long lasting and if there is a change in the psyche of a character, there better damn well be a good explanation for it, something this show completely fails to provide. Ecchan’s willingness to let go of Hanabi was a complete farce too. So when Hanabi was still in a relationship with Mugi, and still had the possibility of being accepted by Kanai, Ecchan had no problem with having sex with her (even touching her while in the school library for fuck’s sake) and openly telling Mugi’s about Hanabi’s infidelity in a fit of possessiveness. But now that Hanabi has been rejected by Kanai, and is no longer seeing Mugi, Ecchan suddenly decides that she is not going to have sexual relations with Hanabi anymore? Utterly ridiculous. If anything, Ecchan’s relationship with Hanabi was easily the most toxic and possessive of all, so for her to give it up with absolutely zero justification is all the more confusing. There is nothing that the show to warrant the characters to make such changes. The show has the audacity to attempt to fool the viewers that these characters had developed in some way, namely that they were able to overcome their sexual desires in the pursuit of true love. Rubbish. In the final episode, if Mugi had tried to kiss Hanabi, or vice versa, or if Ecchan had tried to kiss Hanabi, or vice versa, it would have delved into a full blown make-out session, as has been the case throughout the entire series. It’s fine not to have development over the course of a series, real life is like that, people don’t change sometimes. But what I hate the most the forced fake development that is thrown in for the sake of it just because it is the finale. The writers use multiple time skips covering entire months within the space of the final episode in an attempt to sell this “development” but it comes across as entirely artificial and contrived. Most series use time skips very carefully and at most once or twice during the entire course of the show. To have it multiple times in just one episode reeks of lazy writing, where they realize that they cannot possibly organically justify the characters’ transformations, and thus just fast forward the show in a farcical attempt at development. Another criticism I have for the series is that the writers takes the easy way out; rather than show that all characters are equally detestable, they very conveniently use the sociopathic Akane in order to get the viewers to feel some kind of sympathy to Hanabi and Mugi. Objectively, Hanabi and Mugi are both characters that are rotten to the core, but the writers try to paint them as some kind of sympathetic heroine/hero because there's a character with an even more deplorable moral compass. Akane becomes a scapegoat the viewers can blame all the emotional turmoil the other characters are experiencing on. This is especially the case in how the show tries to portray Hanabi as some sort of victimised tragic character. She willingly sleeps with multiple people, but hey, she's still "pure" because she never went all the way with them. Oh come on. She’s as filthy as all the other characters in the show. It is true that Ecchan’s desire for Hanabi was bordering on forceful and rapey, but if Hanabi truly did not want to have sexual relations with her, she could simply have walked away. She gave in to her lust all the same despite feeling it was wrong. Frankly, there’s nothing that the characters in the show does that I, or the majority of human being in their position would not do, but that’s the whole point. Humans will hurt others and trample over others in order to fulfil their own selfish desires. Yes, Hanabi is indeed the victim, but at the same time she is also the aggressor, she also manipulates and toys with others, and it is important to keep that in mind while feeling sorry for her. Additionally, the series is terrible in the sense that internal monologues plague every single episode. Have the writers ever heard of "show, not tell"? The writers’ idea of characterization is literally having whole minutes on characters babbling on inside their heads. It’s flogging a dead horse. Why even bother to have proper characterization when you can just have some psycho-babble, right? And it’s not like the show is trying to tell its viewers: "hey, look at these pretentious fucks trying to rationalize their desire for sexual pleasure as something deeper", the show tries to pass of these internal monologues are something legit. It’s almost like the show is trying to scream: "Look how deep I am! Look at my internal anguish and conflict!" and beat the viewers over the head with it. I have seen people praising the ending as realistic. Were they even watching the same show as I was? Which particular relationship is realistically resolved? They point to the fact that Hanabi and Mugi don’t end up together as some kind of proof that the show had such a “deep” “bittersweet” ending. People praising the ending claim that they avoided the typical happy ending of romance anime. But if you ask me, the ending completely at odds with the tone and characterisation and themes brought up over the course of the series. Yes, it’s a bittersweet ending if you compare with the endings of most other series, but comparing the series with itself, with the tone and emotional turmoil set in the first half, the ending is an unnaturally optimistic one. The people that want to see Mugi and Hanabi together don’t actually mean that they love each other. Well, I won’t deny that there are some people that want some lovey-dovey ending with Hanabi and Mugi finding “true love” with each other, but those kind of people have missed the entire point of the show in the first place. The show has made it clear that frankly Mugi never saw Hanabi as anything but a sex object. Vice versa, I’ll give Hanabi the benefit of the doubt, but it is undeniable that the vast majority of their so-called relationship was nothing but sexual pleasure. What I mean, and what I think a lot of other people mean when they say they want an ending with Mugi and Hanabi together is both of them being in a sham relationship, using each other for sexual pleasure and deluding themselves that they have feelings for each other. Which is effectively no different from the start. And that’s the whole point. An utterly depressing ending, with each of the two leads making absolutely zero progress in finding true love, and in fact being even further away from it than ever because Kanai and Akane are married. For a show whose entire premise in the first place was to take the genre of teenage romance to its logical extreme, why doesn’t it choose to go all the way? Why stop short? The whole show was building up to a tipping point, but when the point came, there was no spectacular collapse, it just kind of fizzled out. They spent 8 whole episodes tearing down the characters only for it to amount to nothing in the end. What exactly are the consequences for the malicious hurtful actions all of the characters have inflicted on others and have been inflicted on themselves throughout the series? Nothing much to be honest. The show’s entire selling point was that it is not like all the other cliché romance dramas, only to turn that on its head in the end, which is utterly disappointing. The series, which had initially prided itself on its realism, becomes an exercise in suspension of disbelief. It wants to do a different take on the romance genre, but instead of seeing it through to its logical extreme, does a complete 360. Instead of maintaining its direction all the way to the bitter ending, Kuzu no Honkai decides to pussy out and incorporate elements of a typical cliché romance. And we’re left wondering what could have been. Nonetheless, the phenomenal set-up in the first half and it’s refreshing take on the teenage romance genre makes this a must-watch. It’s such a pity the show did not have the vision and ambition to follow it through to the end. |

sigh...still wish Hana wasn't so trampled on through the series. i actually liked her character a lot super super glad she didn't end up with Mugi, i actually liked that ending a lot. a nice touch with Moca letting go and all that too overall, i thought this show was poorly executed but the ending was pretty nice |

Perfect ending. It was not the tragedy, or nice-boat I was hoping for, but it was a perfect ending. /cried Even though it wasn't "sad". It was very fitting for them to go their separate ways and I'm glad it ended the way it did. 9/10 (tempted to give this a 10... not sure... I just don't like to give out 10s too soon) Winter 2017 AOTS |

A bitter sweet ending, I half-expected it and I love it. If Mugi and Hanabi actually ended up together the hopeless romantic in me would have been really happy but the realist part of me would rage. So I have no complaints of how it all ended. It's depressing but in a good way. Over all this anime has been a refreshing watch from start to end. It was such a good change from most of the animes out there, I would want to watch more romances that are just like this. I can't say the plot itself is realistic (It's not cliche either, but rather... far-fetched?), but the characters, their decisions and reactions to each situations were and really that's what made this anime so interesting and enjoyable to watch. |

This was a really good show with problems. Still has some too. But strong animation and music really save the show. 8.5 out of 10 Also the last two eps fixed a lot of problems. Still this whole situation is really unrealistic. Edit: sorry it is being unrealistic knock it down a point 7 out of 10. |

Episode 11 blew my mind, it was an abomination. At first, I thought the story wasn't that bad, overdramatic, but still pretty decent. After a while, none of the characters are really likeable anymore, I felt disgusted, but okay, the story was tense, in a way it's a good thing. Then, episode 11 dropped. The character development for slutty sensei felt so cliche and lazy, and this episode destroyed the "onii-chan"/"sensei" character, from within. The whole scenario of "omg I expect him to act this way, he didn't, he caught my attention, omg he's now my fated one" is just so cringey, I've seen similar situation played out in so many other stories. The trope isn't bad if you apply it onto your own story, actually integrating it, not just slap it on the storyboard and call it a day. Sensei basically accepted a fucking whore without probing into her past first, lol, like I mean, if I had a crush on this lady who sleeps around all day all night, I'd want to know the reason and what may come out of this relationship and all that. I mean, it could be possible that sensei is just that fucking wild, but I doubt so, there wasn't even a hint of him being that kind of character, so I can only conclude he's a fucking walking plot device. Oh yah, that slut didn't just sleep around, she fucks with people's life too, basically a horrible personality, no idea how "I don't sleep around no more" change her nasty personality. There's also way too much smut/sex for my liking, it was purely fanservice and wasn't necessary for the story, as in they didn't need to show us. Really reminds me of Koi wo Suru no ga Shigoto desu, heard it's a requirement to have a sex scene in every chapter even though the story is perfectly fine without it. Looking at the author's MAL page, seems like she's a hentai writer, not too surprising, Kuzu no Honkai would make a great hentai, but not a legit anime. There's also way too much dialogue/narration for my liking, it's like the story is being narrated in the POV of the main characters instead of playing the scene out, it's kinda "tell, not show" rather than the opposite. Would make a great novel, not a great manga/anime. It also felt like the narrative of the story determine how the characters act instead of the way characters act determine the story. For example, the "love" in this show didn't feel genuine at all, it's like character A had to love character B even without a reason because the story required it. There's way too many character A loved B but B loved C, and C loved D and D loved E, and E loved A. Remember Ecchan's cousin? Dude got introduced for the sole reason of being a scapegoat for Ecchan. Dude appeared in like 2 episodes max lmao. I don't even know what that ending was even supposed to mean. It took them long enough to realize that romance isn't all life is about, by the way they acted, it's like the concept of friendship and family doesn't exist in this show, it's either you fuck me and marry me or you don't and fuck off. Actually, I am not even sure if they understood. I mean, I fully understand that loneliness that Hana faced, sometimes it just came all over me like a surge of wave, and there's nothing I can do about it, but not to the extent that you think about that shit 24 hours a day for the entire year. I have tons of issues with this show but it's just not worth it at this point. I feel disgusted with this show. |

I thought Kanai was the only normal character but turned out he was pretty messed up too. Pretty much Kanai was attracted to Akane because of her look too(like her mother), hence the love at first sight which he mentioned. Akane seemed wanted to test if his love is genuine or not and she want to try the 'wedding'(because she's bored of course). So Kanai and Akane coupling is not bad in my opinion though maybe they will divorce later if she become bored again. I was expecting Hanabi to develop like Akane but it seems suddenly the author to change her mind. It would become more interesting story I think. --- @aboynameddeath @ToG25thBaam I agree with you both. It seems that the author was too lazy or didn't know how to progress the story, very fast changing personality of the characters and many timeskips toward the end. |

Thankfully Kanai sensei is into netorare so he wouldn't mind his wife cheating on him, welp. Put that all aside, what a great series every episode had me wanting more, kinda played with my emotion a little bit. Great character development especially Akane sensei in the end she's just a lonely princess who has been led astray by her own desire. For the moment i thought Hanabi would end up with Mugi but thank God it didn't happen because it'd be so awkward after all those things, and it's kinda logical to fidn their true love since they don't love each other from the first or they won't move forward if they ends up together. Super realistic ending but that's why i like it. Overall score 8/10, great series will be missed |

Hmm, not quite what I expected. I read Hanabi and Mugi's relationship wrong. I thought they were falling in love in the midst of their shared circumstances. Rather than love, they seemed to develop an understanding. Particularly that moment when Hanabi mentions that they used words instead of physical contact. That makes me think that for the first time, they made a real connection. Not a romantic one either - in fact it's more profound precisely because it wasn't. It was no longer about licking each other's wounds, but sharing the stories of their lost first loves and agreeing to set out on their own respective journeys to discover what love really is. I have to say, Kuzu no Honkai really exceeded expectations. I thought I was just picking up another round of School Days with shock value, but it really delves into the human condition in a way rarely seen in anime. There was certainly plenty of meat to the cast. I could just as easily dedicate a paragraph to each character delving into their motives, personality, and psyche. But to cut it short, I think the best way to describe these characters is that they're damaged. Flawed though they may be, they're stumbling through life and trying to discover both who they are as well as who is right for them. 8.5/10, a particularly nice touch how the show ends with fireworks (hanabi). |

Frankly I think it was great. An ending with Mugi and Hanbi being together could have been so excepted and would ruin the series realistic nature. Will wait for another series like it <3. |

I really liked the series, but I think some important parts were overshadowed because of the huge amount of sex scenes. Every single character had good development, specially the MC. Best thing to note is that you clearly can find a lot of Akanes, Mugis and Norikos across our lives and that's very realistic to be put on the story because such personalities really exist. There's no one innocent (except maybe Kanai?). They're all humans with good and bad sides. A solid 7\10 for me. |

There's one thing that people who dislike this anime seem to misunderstand:these characters aren't your typical perfect people that you see in most anime. No, these are flawed, corrupt, broken, heartless, and most of all real characters. All these people I see giving this anime a 1 saying that all the characters are garbage and Moca is the best one. Yeah, Moca is the best anime character in this show, that's because she's the only anime character in this show. Everyone else is a real person. |

What you are hinting is that because the characters are unique it makes the series better? "Oh look the characters have a unique personality and behavior, this will score high in my books" 2nd example: "Look at this flawed, corrupt, broken, heartless character, I will be happy to watch more" Don't get me wrong, the anime is decent but I feel you misjudge the anime. |

otakuinhiding said: The "they are real character" argument is so overused when it comes to unlikeable personality. The fans used one for Subaru from Re:Zero too. I've seen my fair share of flawed & broken characters, I like some and I dislike some, got nothing to do with them being real or not, and frankly, I don't give a crap about them being real. It doesn't put your opinion above mine, and I didn't misunderstand anything. There's one thing that people who dislike this anime seem to misunderstand:these characters aren't your typical perfect people that you see in most anime. Yeah, Moca is the best anime character in this show, that's because she's the only anime character in this show. Everyone else is a real person. It's a huge copout for Akane's character to find a guy like Kanai special, just because this guy doesn't want to screw you 24/7 doesn't make him any more special. The author needed a way to conclude her story and pretty much just find the lazy way out. It's also the same with Ecchan's infatuation with Hanabi, it was uncontrollable at one point but then all of the sudden, she just decided to stop being obsessed with her, and that's the end of it all. The twintail girl was just there to fill time, filler basically. Ecchan's cousin was introduced for the sole reason to be Ecchan's second choice, not a lot of characterization, one flashback, that's.. really all of it. The show just hasn't done a very good job developing these characters. (and I don't mean that in a traditional character development way - make them change, but rather how the characters grow with the story, adding more depth and personality) The whole thing is basically about uncontrollable sexual urge, "I want true love but my pussy/dick can't stop pulsating" kind of thing. |
